Leipzig loves MINI: BMW Group Plant Leipzig celebrates production launch of MINI Countryman

Leipzig. The MINI Countryman production launch is a significant event, as it is the first MINI to be manufactured in Germany. It will share the production line with the BMW 1 Series and 2 Series, offering combustion-powered, plug-in hybrid, and fully electric options.

The special event celebrating the launch of the MINI Countryman brought together important figures such as BMW AG Board Member for Production, Milan Nedeljković; the Minister President of Saxony, Michael Kretschmer; the head of the MINI brand, Stefanie Wurst; Mayor and Alderman for Business, Work and Digital Affairs, Clemens Schülke; as well as guests from politics, media, and plant employees. The production lines were stopped for almost 45 minutes so that everyone in the plant could witness the live broadcast of the celebration.

The production of the largest MINI model to date is a significant step forward for the future of BMW Group Plant Leipzig. An investment of around €700 million has been made since 2018 to increase capacity and enable the production of the MINI Countryman. Additionally, the third generation of the vehicle will also be available with a fully electric drive. Plant Director Petra Peterhänsel stated, “Leipzig remains electrified.”

He mentioned that all BMW Group plants are capable of producing different models with different drives on a single production line, but what makes Plant Leipzig special is its flexible production system being used for multiple brands for the first time.

Michael Kretschmer, Minister President of Saxony, emphasized the significance of the BMW Group plant in Leipzig for the region and the federal state. He stated, “The BMW site in Leipzig is a success story of modern industrial production and the launch of the MINI Countryman reaffirms the company’s commitment to ‘Autoland’ Saxony.”

Clemens Schülke, Mayor and Alderman for Business, Work and Digital Affairs of the city of Leipzig, expressed his positivity about the event and the impact of the MINI Countryman being produced in Leipzig, calling it a genuine success story.

Stefanie Wurst, head of MINI, discussed the characteristics of the new MINI Countryman, emphasizing its environmental credentials and versatile, powerful, and efficient drives.

Plant Director Petra Peterhänsel highlighted the historical importance of the MINI Countryman for the future of Plant Leipzig, stating that the plant’s headcount will increase by over 1,000 by the end of 2024 as the production of the MINI Countryman ramps up.

Works Council Chairman Jens Köhler spoke about the importance of the plant in Leipzig for the production network and expressed gratitude to the BMW Group for their trust.

Honda Unveils Its New Naked Liter Bike: The CB1000 Hornet Bares All At EICMA 2023

Honda has officially introduced the CB1000 Hornet, a liter-class streetfighter based on the CBR1000RR platform and sporting a sharp design with familiar looks.

The new model’s design appears to draw some inspiration from Kawasaki’s Z1000 and Ducati’s Streetfighter V4, departing from the CB1000R’s Neo Sports Cafe design to adopt the sharpness and pointiness of modern-day Honda Hornets.

The headlight features a split design, similar to the current Fireblade in Honda’s lineup, with dual LED headlights fitted into a sharp front housing. The short tank of the Hornet is angular and angled forward, giving it a muscular and aggressive look when viewed head-on.

The rear of the bike also embraces an aggressive look, tapering off to a sharp point with flatter sections that give it an aerodynamic and futuristic appearance, signaling Honda’s focus on forward-thinking and modern design with its Hornets.

Honda has stated in its launch video that the new big-bore Hornet takes styling cues from the CB750 Hornet, building it on the Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade platform, including the steel frame and the Pro-Link rear suspension system.

The bike is equipped with an inverted Showa Separate Function Fork-Big Piston (SFF-BP) with a tube diameter of 41 millimeters and a rear mono-shock that is manually adjustable for pre-load and rebound, ensuring a proper setup.

The electronics package includes throttle-by-wire system, three riding modes, a five-inch color TFT display, and the Honda RoadSync pairing suite compatible with Android and iOS smartphones.

The 999cc inline-four cylinder engine delivers 150 horsepower and “over” 73.8 pound-feet of torque. While the exact power figures are not yet released, Honda has promised to provide them once the Hornet is released in the summer of 2024.

With the CB1000R’s sluggish sales, it will make way for the big Hornet, marking a new era for Honda in the heavyweight naked category with the Hornet leading the charge.

2024 Ford F-150 Teaser Shows Refreshed Truck’s Exterior, Debuts September 12

The refreshed 2024 Ford F-150 will make its debut on September 12. In a teaser video, the truck is shown working on a farm, giving us a sneak peek at its updated front end.

While the teaser video only provides limited views of the updated F-150, previous spy shots have shown the truck without any camouflage. These shots reveal new headlights with a pair of square, stacked headlights separated by an amber turn signal. Reflectors are also visible on the outer edges of the headlights.

Like the current F-150, different trims of the 2024 version will feature different grille treatments. For example, the STX appearance package seen in the gallery below showcases a hexagonal mesh grille design. Other images show the Platinum grade with a split grille design.

A new base-spec W2 variant has been introduced, and the TurboSport version is now available from the W4 variant onwards, making it more affordable. The electric version of the XUV300, the XUV400, has also been updated with the addition of five new safety features.
