Singer’s DLS Turbo: Crafting The Ultimate Air-Cooled Porsche 911

# Singer’s DLS Turbo: Crafting The Ultimate Air-Cooled Porsche 911

Singer Vehicle Design, a luxury restorer based in California known for its expertise in air-cooled Porsche 911s, has unveiled a stunning evolution of the Dynamics & Lightweighting Study (DLS). In response to client requests, Singer has introduced the DLS Turbo, offering custom restorations and modifications for these iconic Porsche cars. This upgrade is a tribute to the victorious 934/5 endurance racers from the 1970s, combining the thrill of the past with the performance of the present.

The Porsche 911, originally a naturally aspirated model, has undergone continuous polishing over time to achieve optimal performance on both roads and tracks. In the mid-1970s, the turbocharged 911 variant emerged, gradually evolving into the dominant Type 934/5 racer in 1977. With Singer’s new restoration services, owners of the Type 964 Porsche 911, produced between 1989 and 1994, can now send their sports cars for a personalized and high-performance upgrade. Each car is disassembled meticulously, down to its steel monocoque.

![Image20](https://cdn.motor1.com/images/mgl/2NAroM/s5/image20.jpg)

During the restoration process, the interior and exterior bodywork, along with all mechanical components, are removed and assessed. The chassis is cleaned, reinforced, and prepared for subsequent restoration stages. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis is used to determine the optimal aerodynamics of the carbon fiber bodywork. Features like the central front intake, hood vent, rear fender intakes, and NACA ducts are designed to enhance cooling performance.

Owners can choose between track-focused or road-focused restorations. The Blood Orange model is tailored for track performance and includes a high-downforce rear wing and a track-oriented front fascia. On the other hand, the Moet Blanc model is designed for road-focused driving and features an aero-optimized rear ducktail spoiler and a road-oriented front fascia. Singer’s restoration and modification services start with the owner’s original Type 964 engine, which is stripped down and reassembled with high-performance components to maximize its potential. The enhanced 3.8L flat-six engine now incorporates twin turbochargers, resulting in power outputs exceeding 700 HP at more than 9000 rpm.

Singer’s restoration services offer personalized customization for both the exterior and interior presentation, allowing owners to select specific paint, leather, and material finishes. The cost of Singer’s restoration services varies, and only a limited number of restorations are commissioned. Interested parties can experience Singer’s reimagined 911 at the Goodwood Festival of Speed or the Monterey Peninsula Car Week in 2023. Experience the Power of a 1,000HP Hennessey Dodge Hellcat in a POV Drive

The Hellcat engine from SRT revolutionized American performance with its supercharged V8 that delivers incredible power, performance, and speed. However, Hennessey takes American performance to the next level, and the 2023 Dodge Challenger Triple Nickel Hellcat Jailbreak with the “H1000” upgrade is no exception. With this upgrade, the power figure reaches an astonishing 1,000 horsepower. In a new video, Hennessey showcases the immense power unleashed when you press down on the accelerator.

The video is shot from a point-of-view perspective, giving you the driver’s experience as 1,000 horsepower is unleashed on straight stretches of road and in tire-shredding smoke shows. The sound adds to the excitement, with constant V8 growls and the incredible whine of the supercharger. Both Hennessey and Dodge are renowned for their ability to create unparalleled performance machines. When Hennessey enhances something as exceptional as the Hellcat, the result is a mind-blowingly fast and spectacular American performance machine.

2024 Mercedes-AMG S63 E Performance First Drive: Electrifying Tradition

Chassis settings, along with engine and transmission response, steering weight, and sound, are keyed to seven drive modes. These include Electric, Battery Hold, Comfort, Sport, Sport+, Slippery, and Individual. Electric activates all-electric driving, Battery Hold saves the charge for later, Slippery is for white-knuckle situations, and Individual allows you to mix and match settings. That leaves Comfort, Sport, and Sport+ as the modes that reveal this car’s true character.

Comfort mode provides the full S-Class land yacht experience. The engine is on but not fully awake, so ambient noise remains fairly low. The ride is at its plushest. Motoring down California’s Pacific Coast Highway, our test car’s carbon-fiber interior trim and AMG badging were the only indicators that we were in an AMG model.

Switch to Sport mode, and you get a subtle burble to remind you that there is in fact a V8 under the hood. As with many other performance cars with programmable drive modes, the steering becomes unnecessarily heavy, but still allows for a fine level of control—which you’ll definitely need to aim a car of this size down a twisty road.

In Sport mode, the S63 no longer feels like an ordinary S-Class. Nor does it just feel like a big car with a powerful engine. It has the confidence-inspiring poise of a true sports sedan, one that impresses not only with its ability to move its considerable girth around corners, but also makes the experience enjoyable. Cars that rely this heavily on tech to overcome the laws of physics can be quite dull, but this is definitely one that makes you want to take the long way home. And that’s before shifting to Sport+ mode, which offers more of everything without making the car too uncomfortable for long stints.

Additionally, it features 19-inch wheels, power-assisted sport steering, and the option for the high-performance M-Compound package, which includes larger brake rotors.

The standard equipment list of the 2024 BMW X1 M35i includes convenient features like wireless charging pads, a curved infotainment display running BMW Operating System 9, and a Harmon/Kardon sound system. However, there are also optional creature comforts available, such as heated seats, a moonroof, wood trim, and M Sport seats.

We Won’t See The Unveil Of 5-Door Mahindra Thar On Independence Day 2023

The 5-door Thar will likely be revealed closer to its slated launch in early 2024

Mahindra Thar 5-door

  • The 5-Door Thar unveil is officially not happening on August 15.

  • Instead, we might see a near-production-ready version of the XUV700 EV on the said date.

  • The 5-door Thar will feature a full metal hard top and electric sunroof with the possibility of six airbags.

  • To use the same 2-litre turbo-petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engines with manual and automatic transmissions.

Following numerous reports, the carmaker has officially confirmed that the global unveil of the 5-door Mahindra Thar won’t take place on August 15. Since the SUV is slated to launch in 2024 only, it would have likely been too early to unveil the model.

Mahindra Thar 5-Door

There is still a Mahindra event on August 15 but its exact details are unknown, but we’re expecting to see closer-to-production versions of some of their upcoming electric SUVs. The carmaker plans to launch its fresh line of EVs from 2025, starting with the XUV e8 which is the electric version of the XUV700.

Two important additions will be a full metal hard top and an electric sunroof. Other features expected are a 7-inch touchscreen system, cruise control, auto AC, six airbags, and a rear camera.

Just like the 3-door, we’re expecting the 5-door version with rear-wheel- and four-wheel drivetrains.

50,000 People Have Bought The Tata Nexon EV So Far

The Tata Nexon EV nameplate was introduced in early 2020 and has been leading the mass-market EV adoption in India since

Tata Nexon EV Prime and Max sales milestone

  • The Nexon EV was launched in January 2020, based on the facelifted Nexon, with Max and Prime derivatives introduced in 2022.

  • It is among the top three best-selling electric cars in India.

  • Tata offers the Nexon EV Prime with a 30.2kWh battery pack good for a claimed range of 312km.

  • The Nexon EV Max gets a 40.5kWh battery, offering an ARAI-rated range of 453km.

  • Both the Nexon EV Prime and Max share a few features like a touchscreen and auto AC.

  • Their prices range from Rs 14.49 lakh to Rs 19.54 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

50,000 units. That’s how many cumulative sales both the Tata Nexon EV Prime and Max have got to their name. This is like a shot in the arm for new buyers and the Indian automotive industry alike, given that our market is still slowly growing in acceptance of electric cars. Tata says the relatively newer Nexon EV Prime and Nexon EV Max variants constitute up to 15 percent in the overall sales of the Nexon.

Here’s a quick look at the journey of Tata’s most affordable electric car so far:

What Started It All?

Tata Nexon EV Prime

Back in early 2020, Tata brought out the facelifted Nexon, which also spawned the Nexon EV. It was among the first long-range mass market electric cars to go on sale in our market. It also became one of the first electric cars in India to be offered on a subscription basis, and it crossed the 1,000 unit-production milestone in a little over six months time.

Updates Down The Line

Tata Nexon EV Max

In May 2022, Tata further broadened the Nexon EV range by introducing a longer range version which got the “Max” suffix, which came with a larger battery pack and more features too. This also led to the standard Nexon EV getting the “Prime” suffix, which is positioned as the entry-level version of the electric SUV.

With these updates, the Nexon EV got pricier too and not all states were still offering discounts for incentivising EV purchases. However, the entry-level electric SUV from Tata remained a popular choice and its Ziptron tech has become a proven technology for the Indian market with various records to its name.

2024 Triumph Scrambler 400 X Is Ready To Thump Its Way Into Your Heart

On June 27, 2023, Triumph Motorcycles officially unveiled two new bikes from its collaboration with Bajaj. These bikes have been in the works for the past few years, and while leaked images and videos were floating around, important details were still unclear, especially regarding the engine displacement.

But now, we have the information we’ve been waiting for—the first Triumph Bajaj bikes are here. They introduced the 2024 Speed 400, which we’ve already covered in a separate article, and the 2024 Scrambler 400 X, which we’ll dive into now.

2024 Triumph Scrambler 400 X Engine

Both of Triumph’s new single-cylinder motorcycles, developed in partnership with Bajaj, are equipped with a dedicated TR-series engine. This all-new unit was specifically designed for Triumph and these bikes. Triumph claims that this engine will be exclusive to Triumph and won’t be used by other manufacturers, including Bajaj.

The TR engine is a liquid-cooled, four-valve, 398.15cc single-cylinder engine. It produces a claimed 39.5 brake horsepower at 8,000 rpm and 27.6 pound-feet of torque at 6,500 rpm. The bore and stroke measure 89mm by 64mm. The engine features Bosch electronic fuel injection and electronic throttle control, and it’s paired with a six-speed gearbox.

Chassis, Suspension, Brakes, Wheels, Tires

Similar to the Speed 400, the Scrambler 400 X utilizes a hybrid spine and perimeter frame made from tubular steel, along with a bolt-on rear subframe. The two-sided swingarm is made from cast aluminum alloy.

The front suspension on the Scrambler 400 X consists of upside-down Big Piston forks with a diameter of 43mm, providing 5.9 inches of wheel travel. This is slightly more than the Speed 400’s setup. The rear suspension is a preload-adjustable gas monoshock with an external reservoir, also offering 5.9 inches of suspension travel, which is 0.8 inches more than the Speed 400.

Braking is handled by a single four-piston radial caliper and a 320mm fixed brake disc in the front, and a single floating caliper and a 230mm fixed disc in the rear. The Scrambler 400 X is equipped with Bosch dual-channel ABS as standard. The motorcycle features 10-spoke cast aluminum alloy wheels, with a 19-inch wheel in the front and a 17-inch wheel in the rear. Both wheels are fitted with Metzeler Karoo Street rubber.

Dimensions

The 2024 Triumph Scrambler 400 X has a wheelbase of 55.8 inches. The rake measures 23.2 degrees, and the trail is 4.3 inches. The motorcycle has a fuel capacity of 3.43 gallons, identical to the Speed 400. Triumph claims that the curb weight is 395 pounds.

Rider Aids and Technology

Just like the Speed 400, the Scrambler 400 X features a ride-by-wire throttle. Both motorcycles also come with switchable traction control. However, the Scrambler 400 X has an additional feature that the Speed 400 does not—switchable ABS, allowing riders to have better control off-road. The Scrambler 400 X is also equipped with a torque-assist clutch.

Both Triumph 400s have a dash that includes an analogue speedometer with an integrated LCD screen. The information on the screen can be controlled using a handlebar-mounted scroll button. Additionally, there is a standard USB-C charging port for on-the-go device charging.

Other Features

The Scrambler 400 X is equipped with LED lighting all around, including integrated turn signals where regulations permit. In markets with different turn signal requirements, there may be slight variations in the appearance of the motorcycles. The Scrambler 400 X comes with a steering lock, immobilizer, and Triumph’s transponder-chipped physical key as standard. It also features a headlight grille, radiator guard, sump guard, handguards, a longer front mudguard, and a handlebar brace with a Triumph-branded foam pad.

Pricing, Availability, and Colors

The 2024 Triumph Scrambler 400 X will be available in three two-tone color schemes, each featuring the Scrambler-family tank stripe and badge seen on larger-displacement models. The available color options include Matt Khaki Green/Fusion White, Carnival Red/Phantom Black, and Phantom Black/Silver Ice.

Triumph plans to launch the Scrambler 400 X in India in July 2023, with subsequent releases in other markets worldwide in the first quarter of 2024. Pricing details will be announced alongside availability and will be competitive with similar motorcycles in each market.
