10 Things We Expect To See In An Electric Audi R8 Successor

Introduced in 2006, the R8 has been one of Audi’s most successful and popular supercars in recent times. It has won numerous endurance races and received multiple awards. The R8 shared engines with the Gallardo and Huracan (currently). However, Audi is now shifting towards electric vehicles, and it has been confirmed that the R8 will be discontinued after 2023. An electric successor is already in development and here are ten things we expect to see in the new electric Audi R8.

Information sourced from official automaker websites and press releases, reputed international news publications like Reuters and U.S. News & World Report, authoritative automotive sites like Formula1, and other reputed automotive publications.

However, the final price will be influenced by factors such as inflation and the availability of advanced technology. Despite the high price, the new R8 will offer unparalleled performance and cutting-edge features, justifying its premium status in the market.

Editor’s letter: Why don’t car makers include all software for free?

BMW’s recent attempt to charge customers for activating pre-installed hardware options, such as heated seats, received backlash from the automotive industry. BMW sales and marketing chief, Pieter Nota, explained that although customers didn’t actually pay double, the perception led to negative sentiment. As a result, BMW decided to discontinue this practice.

Instead, BMW will now focus on charging for software upgrades. However, the company has faced criticism in the past for attempting to charge £295 for accessing Apple CarPlay functionality. Eventually, BMW reversed this decision as well.

This time, Nota stated that features like driving assistance and parking assistance will be available for buyers as optional upgrades. According to Nota, customers are accustomed to paying for such features in other areas.

The Future Of Trench Warfare: A Look At Ukraine’s New AI-Controlled Turret

Military technology has seen significant advancements in recent times, particularly in the field of artificial intelligence (AI). However, despite these developments, trench warfare remains a critical strategy for infantry.

In March 2023, the New York Times published an article detailing the experiences of Ukrainian soldiers in the trenches, specifically from what is known as the zero line position or the closest edge to the Russian military. After facing difficulties in breaking through the Ukrainian lines for nearly a year, the Russian military re-strategized by using smaller assault groups to storm Ukraine’s front lines.

Trenches traditionally provided soldiers with cover from bullets and prevented enemy forces from advancing. However, advancements in artillery, armored vehicles, and military drones have made trench warfare even more perilous. Additionally, the constant risk of lifelong injury or exposure to disease adds to the trauma experienced by soldiers.

Reducing the human risk element for operators can minimize decision-making errors and improve target precision. Secure environments enable operators to make sound choices, and it reduces the likelihood of using excessive firepower to neutralize threats.

As technology continues to transform military operations, the significance of utilizing robotics and AI in modern warfare becomes increasingly evident.

Lewis Hamilton and George Russell Test Drive the AMG One in Slalom Challenge

In a sign of the changing times, three new AMG models featured in an advertisement come equipped with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. Mercedes’ Formula 1 drivers, Lewis Hamilton and George Russell, recently had a blast at the “Playground” by test driving the mighty AMG One hypercar, along with the C63 S E Performance and S63 E Performance sedans, both of which share the hybrid setup. The AMG GT coupe, although not currently a plug-in hybrid, will soon join the electrified lineup. During the IAA Munich event, AMG showcased a V8 PHEV prototype boasting over 800 horsepower.

Mercedes didn’t just bring one, but two AMG One hypercars to the event. These hypercars are powered by a 1.6-liter V6 engine derived from Formula 1 technology and integrated into a sophisticated hybrid system. Hamilton and Russell tested their driving skills in a slalom challenge with the 1,049-horsepower beast, which is equipped with a seven-speed automated manual transmission. It’s worth noting that the AMG One holds the Nürburgring lap record for a production car and only 275 units will be produced. Hamilton’s former teammate, Valtteri Bottas, had the privilege of taking delivery of his AMG One a couple of months earlier.

Did The Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 Just Get Leaked Ahead Of Launch?

Sometimes, the best place to hide your new bike is in plain sight. Other times, though—moto enthusiasts do what moto enthusiasts do, and they play a mental game of ‘which one of these is not like the others?’ while scanning a large group of bikes parked together.

We can’t say for sure that’s what happened at an Indian warehouse at the end of August 2023. However, it certainly seems to be the most likely scenario for why photos of a seemingly undisguised Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 are making the rounds across Indian motorcycle media.

In all cases, the bike in question is seen sitting inside a warehouse, among other non-Himalayan 450 bikes. For those who are familiar with the current Himalayan 411’s details, several visual differences immediately stand out when looking at these shots of the Himalayan 450.

For a start, the overall profile is a bit rounder, which is largely due to the reshaped fuel tank on the Himalayan 450. Gone is the blocky, angular unit that was the Himalayan 411’s calling card, and in comes a softer, curvier shape for the 450. The saddle is a new shape, and although it’s still capable of seating both a rider and a passenger, it’s now a split saddle design. A rear carrier sits just behind the passenger seat, so it’s clearly top box ready.

Given the innovations showcased on the Super Meteor 650, the round LED headlight and new LED turn signals shown in these Himalayan 450 photos also aren’t a surprise. A reshaped chassis and stressed member engine design, split front fender, and new cast side stand are some of the other more visible changes from the existing Himalayan 411.

When Will the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 Launch?

Previous leaks and sneak peaks alike seem to point to a release sometime in Q4 of 2023. So far, though, Enfield hasn’t made any official announcements confirming the Himalayan 450’s impending launch date. Since that’s the case, the OEM also hasn’t offered any official details about the new bike.

The new, liquid-cooled engine is expected to offer around 35 to 40 brake horsepower at an unspecified RPM. If that range is anywhere in the ballpark of what the actual bike produces, it will mark a significant increase over the claimed 24.3 brake horsepower at 6,500 rpm that’s currently on the books for the Himalayan 411. The current bike also makes a claimed 23.6 pound-feet of torque at between 4,000 and 4,500 rpm, as well, so it will be interesting to see how the Himalayan 450 differs.

If you’re a fan of Enfield’s Himalayan line, how excited are you about the upcoming 450? Let us know in the comments.

What is Roadside Assistance? Here are a Few Optional RSA Covers That You Should Include in Your Car Insurance Policy

These optional RSA covers can come in handy in times of emergency

Roadside Assistance

Roadside assistance is a valuable service that provides support and peace of mind to drivers when their vehicles encounter unexpected breakdowns or accidents on the road. Including roadside assistance coverage, also known as RSA (Roadside Assistance), in your car insurance policy can be highly beneficial. In this article, we will explore what roadside assistance entails and highlight a few optional RSA covers that you should consider including in your car insurance policy.

Understanding Roadside Assistance:

When drivers’ vehicles have mechanical difficulties, tire punctures, lockouts, battery problems, or other emergencies while on the road, roadside assistance is a service offered by insurance companies or specialized suppliers to assist them. To guarantee that drivers and their vehicles get back on the road promptly and safely, it provides rapid help.

Optional RSA Covers to Include in Your Car Insurance Policy:

Flat Tyre

Towing Service:

Roadside assistance must include a towing service. In the event of a breakdown that cannot be fixed on the spot, it offers coverage for the cost of towing your car to the closest authorized garage or repair facility. With this insurance, you may have your car transported without worrying about paying a lot out of cash.

Flat Tire Assistance:

The price of buying a spare tire to replace a flat or damaged tire is covered under flat tire assistance. Roadside assistance can send a professional to help you if you don’t have a spare tire or are unable to change it yourself. You may avoid the headache of looking for a nearby repair shop or changing a tire on your own by using this service.

Battery Jump-Start:

You may become stranded if you experience battery-related problems, including a dead battery. To get your car operating again, roadside assistance might offer a battery jump-start service. The service provider will jump-start your battery using the necessary tools, allowing you to continue traveling or get to a service facility for additional inspection.

Fuel Delivery:

It might be uncomfortable and frustrating to run out of fuel. To help you get to the closest petrol station, roadside assistance can arrange for the supply of a limited amount of fuel (usually up to a specific maximum). You won’t have to travel far or look for a petrol station if you use this service when your fuel runs out suddenly.

Lockout Assistance:

A frequent error that can be upsetting is locking your keys inside your car. Roadside assistance companies that offer lockout assistance can dispatch a locksmith to aid you in getting into your locked car. With the help of this service, you can immediately get your keys back and get on with your day without having to damage your automobile or find another solution.

On-site Repairs:

Some roadside assistance plans include on-site repairs for small problems that don’t require towing your car. Expert mechanics can identify and fix typical issues like a dead battery, a loose connection, or a little mechanical problem so you can keep going without getting towed.

Conclusion:

Your auto insurance policy should include roadside assistance coverage since it gives you peace of mind and support in case of emergencies or unforeseen problems. You may improve your coverage and make sure you get help right away when you need it by adding optional RSA covers like towing service, flat tire assistance, battery jump-start, fuel delivery, lockout assistance, and on-site repairs. Choose the best roadside assistance alternatives before finalizing your auto insurance policy by taking into account your driving style, the state of your automobile, and the coverage provided by various insurers.”

Mercedes-AMG A35 2023 UK first drive

The days of straightforward, powerful hatchbacks are slowly disappearing. It’s unfortunate, but now these cars feel more like novelties than common sightings on the road.

Hot hatches are becoming rare, with many of them reaching their final stage of evolution and becoming quite expensive. Take, for example, the £50,000 Honda Civic Type R.

But there are still a few stalwarts in the segment, such as the Mercedes-AMG A35. This model, along with the rest of the A-Class range, has received updates for 2023, before an electric successor arrives in a couple of years.

The refreshed A35 inherits the muscular bonnet design from the hardcore A45, as well as its grille. Mercedes has even replaced its own badge with the Affalterbach firm’s logo, emphasizing the car’s AMG credentials.

But is it truly an AMG? Some doubts persist. The A35 has always used a modified version of a regular A-Class engine, rather than a bespoke AMG powerplant. This raises questions about authenticity. However, considering the new C63 now has a four-cylinder engine instead of the iconic V8, perhaps authenticity is a subjective matter.

The A35 still looks sharp with its tweaked headlights, new wheel design, and other minor changes. However, the rear wing, which the more powerful A45 can pull off, looks a bit forced on the A35. Thankfully, this aerodynamic feature is only available on the top-end Premium Plus trim, which comes with a hefty price tag of £51,000. Lesser versions of the A35 get a more subtle spoiler reminiscent of the original Ford Focus RS.

Inside the cabin, Mercedes has removed the touchpad, opting for a crisp touchscreen as the sole controller for the infotainment system. The interior, while emphasizing luxury, doesn’t quite match up to the impeccable quality found in some competitors. Nevertheless, it’s a comfortable place to be, and the new steering wheel is much more appealing than its predecessor.

In terms of driving dynamics, five years after its introduction, the A35 remains an intriguing and somewhat inconsistent character. It wants to excel on twisty B-roads, with its firm suspension providing good composure during spirited driving. However, the steering response can feel a bit slow off-center, and the seats lack the necessary support and low positioning to match the car’s sporty intentions. As a result, dialing back the aggression and adopting a smoother driving style suits the A35 better.

BMW G 310 Becomes the Best-Selling Model in the Indian Lineup

India is widely recognized as the largest motorcycle market in the world. With over 15 million new motorcycles sold in 2022 alone, it’s evident that motorcycles are a fundamental part of Indian mobility.

While the Indian motorcycle market differs significantly from that of the West in terms of model selection, well-known companies dominate the market. Japanese manufacturers like Honda, Yamaha, and Suzuki have a strong presence in the mass market segment. Interestingly, BMW has been making significant progress in India, thanks to its G 310 model range.

2024 BMW G 310 R - Blue - Front Right Angle View

For those who may not be aware, the BMW G 310 is not technically a BMW, but rather a rebranded TVS. TVS is a prominent Indian manufacturer and one of several Asian manufacturers with close ties to European companies. In the case of the G 310, BMW collaborated with TVS to develop and produce the bikes. These motorcycles feature BMW branding and design, and they are sold worldwide.

The BMW G 310 range, which includes the R, RR, and GS models, has become the most accessible motorcycles carrying the BMW badge. Not only in India but also in the rest of the world, these models serve as aspirational products in BMW’s catalog. In the Indian market, the BMW G 310 range accounted for an impressive 90 percent of BMW Motorrad India’s sales.

2021 BMW G 310 GS Parked

In the first half of 2023, BMW Motorrad India sold a total of 4,667 units, with 90 percent of them being G 310 models. This represents a staggering 50-percent sales growth compared to the same period in 2022.

It’s worth noting that the BMW G 310 offers basic technology, which contributes to its affordability. In terms of performance, it is quite respectable for its engine displacement class. Its 313cc, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected, single-cylinder engine generates 34 horsepower and around 20 pound-feet of torque. The G 310 R is the naked streetfighter model, while the G 310 GS is the smaller sibling of BMW’s larger adventure motorcycles. The G 310 RR is the latest and sportiest model, drawing inspiration from the mighty S 1000 RR sportbike.

Watch Wheels Through Time Troubleshoot This Ultra-Rare 1942 Harley Racer

In June 2023, Matt Walksler from Wheels Through Time took viewers on the museum’s YouTube channel on a journey into the world of an extremely rare Harley-Davidson race bike. This particular bike is an answer to the question of what’s rarer than rare.

The bike in question is a 1942 Harley-Davidson FLTT, equipped with a highly uncommon 80 cubic inch racing engine. The factory mechanics of the time went all out on this bike, implementing every trick in the book. The engine features ported cylinders, shortened pistons, polished connecting rods, and lightened flywheels. The goal was to maximize speed and performance by reducing friction, shedding weight wherever possible, and reinforcing parts under intense stress.

In a recent video, the WTT team showcased their progress in getting this unique bike up and running. When it initially arrived at the museum, it was about 70-80 percent complete. However, as anyone who has taken on a project knows, it’s often the final hurdles that prove to be the most frustrating.

A significant contribution to the project came from Walksler’s extensive collection of parts that he has amassed over the years. His knack for recognizing useful parts proved valuable in this case, as he had the correct primary cover for the bike.

Despite all the effort put into assembling the bike and ensuring it was in good working order, it refused to start. Walksler attempted the process multiple times, but to no avail. The bike had great compression, spark, and fuel in the tank, so what was the issue?

In these situations, it’s often best to step away from the project and approach it with fresh eyes later on. Walksler and his team decided to leave it overnight and return the next day with a clear mind. They discovered that the carburetor on this bike differed from the standard unit found in other non-TT race bikes made by Harley at the time. Walksler suspected that the low-speed needle jet was screwed in too far, resulting in improper fueling and the bike’s failure to start.

The good news is that the following day, the bike started successfully, emitting a strong, healthy rumble from its race pipes. According to Walksler, the engine itself is relatively quiet, but the exhaust on the bike is quite loud. Fans of startup videos featuring ultra-rare bikes will appreciate the conclusion of this video, so grab your best headphones for the optimal experience.
