2024 Suzuki Swift vs Current Maruti Swift

  • The 2024 Suzuki Swift has made its production-spec debut in Japan, shortly after its concept form unveiling.

  • Internationally, it will get a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine with hybrid and all-wheel-drive powertrain options.

  • New features include a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 360-degree camera, 6 airbags, and ADAS tech.

The new-generation Suzuki Swift has been officially revealed in Japan shortly after it debuted as a close-to-production concept. Suzuki recently revealed the powertrain details and many of the updated features of its new-gen compact hatchback. While the India-spec model will have its differences, much of the Japan-spec hatchback will make its way to our shores as well. Let’s explore all the changes it features over the outgoing model currently sold here:

Front

While the overall fascia remains familiar, the grille has been tweaked with a more rounded design, a new honeycomb pattern, a U-shaped chrome strip on the bottom half, and the Suzuki logo now placed on the bonnet. The headlights have also been revamped with L-shaped DRLs, and the bumper design has been completely changed with new housing for the LED fog lamps and a chrome strip at the bottom.

Side

The overall silhouette of the Swift remains the same, but the rear door handles are now mounted on the door instead of on the C-pillar, as in the India-spec version. Additionally, the 2024 version gets stylish dual-tone alloy wheels.

Rear

The changes to the rear are subtle but thorough. The tail lamps and boot lip have been slightly reworked for a sharper look. The bumper is brand new and features a black and chrome design with sleek reflector panels.

Dashboard

The dashboard has been changed to resemble the one found in the Maruti Baleno, Fronx, or Grand Vitara. It comes in a black-and-white dual-tone shade. The climate control panel is now the same as other Maruti models, and the AC vents are no longer rounded. The new dashboard also features a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, an upgrade from the 7-inch one in the current Swift.

Front Seats

The 2024 Swift comes with all-black semi-leather seats with a new design pattern. These seats also have larger contours to support the passengers.

While the detailed specifications for the fourth-gen Suzuki Swift are yet to be revealed, we know that it will get an all-new petrol engine.

2024 Suzuki Swift Front

The new-generation Maruti Swift is expected to reach the Indian shores not long after its global market debut, likely sometime in the first half of 2024. It is expected to be priced from Rs 6 lakh (ex-showroom) onwards and will continue to rival the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios.

The EM90 offers the most spacious and flexible interior ever offered by Volvo. It is suitable for both family and business use, providing a personal space for relaxation, work, or spending time with loved ones. The car is a premium six-seater with personalized entertainment and comfort adjustment options. The second-row lounge seats offer various amenities such as a massage function, individual ventilation and heating options, as well as built-in tables and cupholders. The third row is easily accessible thanks to the sliding rear doors and long-sliding second-row seats. The panoramic sunroof covers the entire cabin and can be customized with different ambient lighting settings.

Sophisticated design inspired by nature

The cabin of the EM90 features Scandinavian design details, including Orrefors crystal used in the gear shifter and back-lit birch wood deco panels. These details highlight the seamless integration of beautiful materials with technology. The upholstery and deco patterns draw inspiration from Scandinavian nature and Asian art, creating a fusion of modern design and natural beauty. For example, the seat upholstery patterns are inspired by mist-covered mountain ranges, while the back-lit wood panels evoke the beauty of light shining through a bamboo forest.

Classic Corvette, Jaguar E-Type Look Beat Up But Salvageable In UK Barn Find

Cracking open an old barn or garage can reveal hidden treasures, and Anglia Car Auctions in Scotland recently uncovered quite a collection of vehicles, which are set to be auctioned off. Among the finds is a 1959 Chevrolet Corvette, one of the first cars discovered in the dilapidated barn. Although it lacks an engine and gearbox, it does come with a dismantled V8 engine and manual transmission. The current owner purchased the car in the 1990s with no accompanying paperwork.

Another noteworthy car in the collection is a 1935 Plymouth Coupe, sporting a two-tone pastel yellow and light brown exterior. Despite its age, it’s in relatively good shape with just a few dings and faded paint.

Four Jaguars are also part of the collection. A 1963 Jaguar E-Type 3.8 Roadster is missing some crucial parts, including fenders, a front bumper, hood, and windshield. The 1955 XK140 and 1959 XK150 are in better condition, but the standout is a 1947 Jaguar 1.5, which can still roll on its own.

Other notable vehicles include a 1973 Bond Bug 700, a 1952 Bentley MkVI, a 1959 Ford Consul Capri, and a 1958 Austin-Healey Sprite Frogeye. The collection also features two Land Rovers and two MGs.

All 14 cars from the Scottish collection will be up for auction on November 4 and 5. With no reserve, these forgotten cars, many of which have not been taxed since the 80s, are in poor condition and are better suited as parts cars rather than candidates for full restoration.

Some may be thrilled by their return, as they add a unique charm to the car, while others may think that pop-up headlights are outdated and should be eliminated. However, those who dismiss them are mistaken.

Pop-up headlights are a nostalgic feature from an earlier era when car designers were not burdened by pedestrian impact regulations. They could hide the headlights during the day and unveil them at night, creating a captivating effect. As a former owner of a NA Miata, one of the greatest joys of that car was quickly popping up the headlights when encountering another Miata on the road – a friendly gesture recognized throughout the Miata community as a way of saying “hi, I like your Miata, pal!”

This subtle detail in the Iconic SP Concept not only evokes memories of the Miata but also pays homage to another iconic Mazda car, the FD RX-7. It is my belief that even with its distinctive 90s-style headlights, the FD RX-7 could pass as a brand-new car if it were unveiled today. The way Mazda has incorporated the pop-up headlights in this concept feels like a modernization of the FD design, hinting that the long-awaited return of the RX-7 may be closer than ever.
