RIDING THE 2024 GASGAS MC250F FACTORY EDITION & LANGTOWN REMEMBERED: THE WRAP

We now have slightly time on the 2024 GasGas MC250F Factory Edition. We love the best way it seems to be, we love the best way it runs and we love all the brand new expertise. Virtually all the cost-cutting measures employed on different GasGas MX bikes have been deserted for the Factory Edition. Instead of Braktec brakes and hydraulics, it makes use of Brembo. Instead of solid triple clamps, they’re machined. Instead of a naked area on the left aspect of the handlebar, you get a map swap. Instead of Maxxis tires, you get Dunlop MX34s. It additionally has stiffer suspension settings. That’s the stuff that brings it as much as the identical stage as a standard-edition KTM. The 250 additionally carries a worth equal to that of the KTM 250SX-F Factory Edition: $11,349. Of all of the off-road and MX bikes supplied by GasGas, solely the MC450F Factory Edition is costlier.

Then you get into Factory Edition upgrades.

  • Black rear sprocket

  • New linkage seals
  • Troy Lee/Red Bull graphics
The connectivity unit emits a Bluetooth sign for the GasGas+ app in your smartphone.

The Connectivity Unit Offroad emits a Bluetooth sign to hook up with your cellphone and supply plenty of new options. First and foremost, it provides some engine tuning capabilities–issues like engine braking, throttle response, traction management stage and Quickshift sensitivity. It additionally provides some suspension tuning tips, however you continue to must do all the press and preload adjustments your self–it could actually’t do this by way of bluetooth, but. Additionally, GasGas has partnered with LitPro to supply a GPS overview of any race or trip. It can provide you suggestions telling you how briskly you have been occurring any given part of the observe, what gear you’re in and so forth. It’s extraordinarily helpful to assist decide which line is quicker. To use this function, you’ll want to enroll with LitPro and pay an annual charge. It’s effectively value it.

On our scale, the Factory Edition is 226 kilos with out gasoline.

Somewhat recommendation on the connectivity options: be certain that your supplier helps you set it up in your smartphone earlier than you permit together with your new bike. Download the GasGas+ app and ensure it connects together with your actual bike. If it doesn’t go effectively, the connection course of can drain the bike’s battery. If that occurs on the observe, it’s no enjoyable. Setting all of the expertise and all of the bling apart, the bike itself is the primary occasion right here. We can say with some confidence that it’s essentially the most highly effective manufacturing 250F we’ve ever examined. We don’t know precisely why, nevertheless it’s quicker than the usual MC250F or any of the usual 2024 250s. Granted, we haven’t but examined the KTM 250SX-F Factory Edition, however we’re shocked that the GasGas performs so effectively. It has glorious throttle response and downright wonderful top-end. The solely actual purpose provided that it will be a lot stronger than the usual MC250F is the exhaust system. The Factory Edition has the Akrapovic exhaust canister.

We additionally imagine that the brand new body is a step ahead. The body of the usual version has a stiff really feel, significantly within the first 10 hours. This one feels prefer it’s already damaged in once you first trip it. There aren’t actually some other dealing with notes which can be particular to the Factory Edition. It has the identical geometry as the usual bike. In the large image, the primary purpose that many riders can be drawn to this bike has nothing to do with expertise. It’s all in regards to the manufacturing unit look. KTM is aware of this and protects the graphics that come on the bike. You can’t simply purchase Red Bull shrouds out of your GasGas supplier. You have to supply a VIN quantity proving that you simply already personal one. And we’ve got to confess it is a hanging bike. It has the look, the efficiency and the expertise to be the very best bike but offered underneath the GasGas identify. That’s saying loads.

GasGas Unveils Updated Trials Bike Lineup for 2024

GasGas has recently revealed its latest lineup of trials bikes. It’s surprising to see this update just a year after the brand introduced its already impressive trials range. It seems GasGas was eager to give its models a makeover, resulting in a fresh batch of trials bikes for 2024. According to GasGas, these are their best yet, and the specifications certainly support that claim. Additionally, all models feature a striking red livery that pays tribute to the brand’s racing heritage. Let’s dive deeper into the details.

Let’s start with the TXT GP models, available in 250 and 300 versions. The most exciting addition to both models is the new Akrapovic exhaust pipe. Crafted from high-grade titanium, this header pipe not only reduces weight by 350 grams but also provides a significant power boost between 2,000 and 7,000 rpm according to GasGas. This upgrade is certainly noteworthy for these bikes.

When it comes to handling, the TXT GP models retain the fully adjustable Tech3 shock, which has undergone some improvements. The reservoir has been enlarged by 25 percent to increase oil capacity. This modification aims to enhance heat management, particularly when tackling challenging obstacles. Additionally, the bikes are equipped with FIM-approved brake discs at both the front and rear, ensuring reliable stopping power. On top of that, there’s a newly designed gear lever with a shorter tip to minimize mud buildup during muddy off-road adventures.

GasGas Unveils Revised Trials Bike Lineup For 2024

Now, let’s shift our attention to the TXT Racing models, where GasGas has introduced a range of improvements. These models are available in four different displacements: 125cc, 250cc, 280cc, and 300cc, ensuring options for riders from grassroots to intermediate levels. These bikes feature a lightweight steel frame that improves agility. In terms of suspension, the fully adjustable Tech forks offer a generous 174.5 millimeters of travel, providing a smooth ride over challenging terrains. The Tech shock allows for personalized rebound and spring preload settings, catering to individual preferences.

In terms of aesthetics and comfort, GasGas has also paid attention by incorporating ergonomic bodywork with eye-catching in-mold graphics. Neken handlebars and Renthal grips enhance control, while the Braktec hydraulic clutch and brakes ensure responsive stopping power. Lastly, the wheels are both durable and lightweight, thanks to CNC machined hubs. All in all, these TXT Racing models offer a well-rounded package for trials enthusiasts.

RIDING THE 2024 GASGAS MX & OFF-ROAD BIKES: THE WRAP

GasGas introduced its new lineup for 2024 in a unique way. Instead of hosting a private event for the press, the company opened its doors to the public. They organized the GasGas Spice It Up Festival at Crossodroma La Trogna in Castello, Italy. This event was different from anything seen in the U.S., with technical seminars, bike displays, music, food, and the opportunity for the public to interact with GasGas factory riders like Justin Barcia and Taddy Blazusiak. People had the chance to ride any of the 2024 models they signed up for. The event was free but quickly reached capacity.

I got to ride the EX450F while someone shot photos of me for a change. Photo courtesy GasGas.

Despite my jet lag, I thoroughly enjoyed the event. Although the bikes were new to GasGas, we had an idea of what to expect based on the models from its sister brands, KTM and Husqvarna. The motocross lineup for 2023 includes the MC450F, MC350F, and MC250F. In terms of two-stroke motocrossers, there are the MC250 and MC125. The MC85, MC65, and MC50 have yet to be revealed but will be soon. All full-size bikes feature a new chassis, and most of the engines are new as well, except for the MC450F which carries over some existing engine designs. The off-road four-strokes include the green-sticker eligible EW500F and the non-certified EC450F. The two-stroke off-road bikes consist of the EC300 trail bike, EX300 cross country, and EX250 models. Additionally, GasGas offers two dual-sport bikes: the ES500S and ES350s.

Gary Sutherlin on the EX450F.

GasGas models have several equipment differences compared to KTM models. All GasGas bikes come with Braktec hydraulic systems for the brakes and clutches. Most models do not have a map switch, except for the MC125. The exhaust headpipe for most models does not have a resonance chamber, except for the MC250F.

Justin Barcia was riding again and looking good in Italy.

During the event, I primarily rode the GasGas EX450F and enjoyed it. You can watch the EX450 video here. I would like to extend a big thank you to Gary Sutherlin for helping with the photo shoot. The full story will be featured in the October 2023 issue of Dirt Bike magazine.

LARRY WARD AND THE NOLEEN SIZZLER

Larry Ward’s privateer YZ250 from 1995.

Privateers have had a successful year in the 2023 outdoor series, but they still have a long way to go to match what Larry Ward accomplished in the 1995 Supercross series. Clark Jones at Noleen put together a remarkable effort, using a few parts from Yamaha and support from Sizzler, to help Larry secure second place in the points that year. Considering Jeremy McGrath’s dominance, this achievement was like winning. Although Ward didn’t win any mains, he finished on the podium seven times, usually behind McGrath.

Larry Ward at Sunrise Cycle park for Dirt Bike in 1995.

The YZ250 that Ward rode didn’t have works suspension or a factory cylinder. Noleen made modifications to every aspect of the bike. We featured Larry’s bike in the July 1995 issue of Dirt Bike magazine, and our test riders, including Jim Holley, were impressed. Jim said, “I’d race this thing. It has a good controllable hit, and the suspension is well set up for me. The rear end works great, the bike hooks up better than my YZ, and the power lets me clear doubles from the inside line.”

Jim Holley helping test the Noleen bike.
Larry Ward was the top privateer in Supercross in 1995. Maybe the top privateer in Supercross ever.

CAN-AM LEGACY

Gary Jones (1), Marty Tripes (2) and Jimmy Ellis (3) were the murderer’s row at Can-Am in 1974.

Can-Am is finally recognizing its two-wheel heritage. With the upcoming launch of a new electric motorcycle line, Bombardier, the parent company of Can-Am, realized the success the company had in motorcycle racing during the ’70s. This includes a National Motocross Championship with Gary Jones and two Supercross Championships with Jimmy Ellis. Can-Am released several videos showcasing the Can-Am motorcycle era of the ’70s, which can be viewed here.

FIRST RIDE: 2024 GASGAS EX450F

GasGas recently showcased its complete lineup of motorcycles for 2024 at a public event near San Moreno, Italy. Our team at Dirt Bike had the opportunity to ride all the different motocross and off-road bikes, and among them, the EX450F cross-country model left the biggest impression. It is worth noting that this model is exclusive to the U.S. market. At first glance, the EX450F appears to be heavily influenced by motocross. It shares many similar components with the MC450F MX bike, including the five-speed gearbox. However, there are a few adaptations for off-road riding, such as the 18-inch rear wheel and the inclusion of a kickstand. Overall, the GasGas EX450F is better suited for cross-country racing compared to its counterparts in the KTM and Husqvarna lineup. The power delivery is smoother and less intimidating. It is still incredibly fast but provides a less exhausting experience. The bike comes with two preprogrammed maps on the ECU, and the version we tested was set to the milder option. We had the opportunity to observe Gary Sutherlin putting the EX450F through its paces on GasGas’ specially prepared motocross, cross-country, and grass track test loops.

GASGAS reveals its 2024 Motocross Models

GASGAS recently unveiled its 2023.5 models at the beginning of the SX season, featuring Justin Barcia Red Bull/TLD Factory Racing graphics. Now, just like their Austrian counterparts, the rest of the motocross models have been updated to the new platform. GASGAS has provided us with the following information and images. Head Editor Ron Lawson is currently in Italy test riding the complete line of 2024 GASGAS models, so expect a first impression post on the website soon.

Motocross | Turning up the heat!

GASGAS aims to deliver the best performance for motocross riders, whether they ride for fun or compete to win. In 2024, GASGAS is taking the moto scene to the next level. Their lineup includes the beloved MC 125 two-stroke and the MXGP race-winning MC 450F four-stroke, ensuring there’s a bike to suit all types of riders.

GASGAS motocross models are known for their exceptional handling, but the engineers didn’t stop there. They made improvements to make the bikes perform even better. Each model now features new steel frames, new aluminum subframes, and new swingarms. This combination enhances cornering precision and straight-line stability for maximum fun. The MC 125 and MC 250 two-strokes have also been updated with electric start buttons, replacing the traditional kickstart. Additionally, both bikes now have cutting-edge throttle body injection, resulting in a crisper response and improved on-track performance.

For 2024, all models are equipped with new, lighter motors that offer more torque and high-revving power. These motors are housed in new frames with a slight backward tilt, which lowers the front sprocket, centralizes the weight, and enhances the already outstanding handling of GASGAS motocross bikes.
