The new ecosystem the two companies are forming is expected to recycle, remanufacture, and repurpose around 5 million operating units in the coming years.

The collaboration is part of Toyota’s ambitious sustainability goals. The automotive giant aims to achieve carbon neutrality for its global operations by 2035 and extend the same status to its vehicles by 2050. An integral part of this plan – at least in North America – is the use of recycled materials in future battery production at Toyota Battery Manufacturing, North Carolina (TBMNC), set to be operational in 2025. 

Redwood Materials, in turn, is expanding its Northern Nevada facility and breaking ground on its second Battery Materials Campus outside Charleston, South Carolina. It aims to recycle, refine, and manufacture battery materials, targeting an annual production scale of 100 GWh. As outlined in the agreement, Redwood will provide materials with a minimum of 20 percent recycled nickel, 20 percent recycled lithium, and 50 percent recycled cobalt for cathode production, along with a focus on recycled copper for anode copper foil.

At the time, the U.S. military intended the tanks to focus on infantry support rather than providing the defenses and offenses required for armored combat. However, it wasn’t always an effective match for the Panther and Tiger tanks it faced. Its key advantage was its low-maintenance and easy-to-fix design, which allowed the model to keep a massive fleet in the field, a crucial factor during WWII. Around 50,000 Shermans were built up to 1945, making it America’s most-used tank model.

Bentley Used Biofuel In Its Cars At Goodwood, No Engine Mods Required

Bentley has recently joined the ranks of companies exploring sustainable fuel alternatives. At this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, the luxury automaker showcased six vehicles that successfully completed 32 hill climb runs using biofuel.

No modifications were necessary for Bentley’s vehicles to run on biofuel, as it can directly replace regular gasoline. This includes the 1920 EXP2, the oldest surviving model in the company’s lineup.

2024 BMW X2 Rendered Accurately After New Spy Photos

The BMW X1, introduced in June last year, will soon have a stylish sibling – the 2024 X2. Currently in development on the same platform as the X1, a prototype of the crossover was recently spotted testing in Munich, Germany. The test car had less camouflage than previous models, which allowed our friends at Kolesa.ru to create these exclusive and highly accurate renderings of the new X2.

Similar to the first-generation X2, the new crossover will have a front fascia resembling that of the X1, but with unique elements specific to the even-numbered model. The kidney grilles, for example, have a different shape with a middle section that extends towards the bumper. The renderings also suggest a vastly different bumper design with diagonal slats and large side air openings, giving the X2 a more aggressive appearance compared to the X1.

The rear design is harder to predict. Kolesa.ru proposes a design reminiscent of the current X4, featuring large C-shaped taillights with sharp elements that extend into the boot lid. The rear bumper follows a similar styling to the X1 but with more prominent and aggressive aero elements, including a center diffuser. However, the most significant difference from the new X1 will be the roofline, which will transform from the boxy shape of the X1 to a gently sloped profile in the X2.

Although the X2 and X1 will have distinct visual differences, they will share the same underpinnings. Both models will be built on BMW’s FAAR platform and will offer three- and four-cylinder engines. There is also a potential for an all-electric version. The range-topping combustion-powered model will likely be available in M35i or M40i trims and will be equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine that produces over 300 horsepower, powering all four wheels.
