CITROËN UK ANNOUNCES PRICING FOR NEW STREAMLINED PASSENGER CAR RANGE

This update, effective from September 1, 2023, is in response to changing consumer trends and Citroën’s goal of adopting a fairer and more balanced pricing policy.

A SIMPLIFIED RANGE

The streamlined range consists of three new trim levels: YOU!, PLUS, and MAX, available across all Citroën passenger cars (excluding ë-Berlingo and ë-SpaceTourer for now). This redefinition has resulted in a more concise range, making it easier for customers to understand the different specifications and options available, without confusion. The new range showcases Citroën’s commitment to providing cars with effortless style and supreme comfort.

For example, in the case of the C4 and C4 X models, the entry-level YOU! trim (starting from £19,495 OTR for both models) offers access to Citroën comfort with features such as Advanced Comfort Suspension, Advanced Comfort Seats, and a 10-inch touchscreen with DAB digital radio, Bluetooth® connectivity, and Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto. The YOU! trim level also includes safety systems like Active Safety Brake and Lane Departure Warning, as well as driving assistance systems such as cruise control, Speed Sign Recognition and Recommendation, and rear parking sensors.

The PLUS trim enhances the Citroën experience with a rear-view camera and connected navigation. The C4 and C4 X models in PLUS trim are priced from £23,530 and £24,935, respectively, and feature natural voice recognition, automatic headlights and windscreen wipers, a 10-inch touchscreen, and Citroën’s Connect Box Emergency & Assistance system. In PLUS trim, C4 and C4 X drivers also receive a one-year trial subscription to Citroën Connect PLUS services, including real-time traffic and speed camera alerts.

Lastly, the MAX trim level adds convenient features to enhance onboard life, such as keyless access and adaptive cruise control (for automatic and electric versions). The C4 and C4 X models in MAX trim are priced from £25,420 and £26,820 respectively, and offer a comfortable ride and ease of use, along with Citroën’s unique style featuring dark-tinted rear windows and 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels.

Additional collections, like the ë-Series collection for ë-C4 and ë-C4 X, will continue to be offered as highlights of the range. The ë-Series trim, starting from £36,295 for both models, offers even more features and enhanced levels of style and technology, including a bi-tone roof, heated steering wheel, wireless induction smartphone charging, heated front seats, upgraded Citroën HiFi system, and distinctive Dark Chrome Colour Pack.

AN IMPROVED CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE

By redesigning its product range, Citroën aims to enhance the purchasing experience for customers while reducing costs and delivery times. The Citroën Advisor program allows customers to post comments and opinions on Citroën’s products, sales outlets, and service offerings in a transparent manner.

The new streamlined range simplifies the buying process and improves the overall customer experience. Whether purchasing through the online Citroën Store or from Citroën’s retailer network, the range fosters trust and transparency in the buying process.

In addition to simplifying the range, the Citroën website has been made more user-friendly, allowing customers to easily find information about new models. The rationalization of Citroën’s manufacturing processes has also improved stock management, production, and cost controls, resulting in fair pricing and shorter delivery times for customers.

HISTORIC, ICONIC, LEGENDARY: CITROËN CELEBRATES 75 YEARS OF THE 2CV.

  • Citroën is celebrating the 75th birthday of its iconic 2CV
  • Over 5 million 2CVs were produced from 1949 to 1990
  • The 2CV started as the ‘TPV’ project in 1936, aiming to create a versatile and economical car for the masses
  • The 2CV has become an icon known for being popular, comfortable, simple, robust, and affordable
  • Its unique body shape and versatility contributed to its success over several decades
  • On October 7th, a celebration will be held at the Citroën conservatoire, featuring eight iconic 2CVs

Citroën is commemorating the 75th anniversary of its most iconic car, the 2CV. The 2CV was designed at Citroën’s design office in Paris and underwent testing at the La Ferté-Vidame facility. It was publicly unveiled at the Paris Motor Show on October 7, 1948. Throughout its exceptional career, a total of 5,114,969 2CVs were produced, including 1,246,335 2CV vans. The final 2CV rolled off the assembly line in Portugal on July 27, 1990, 42 years after its launch.

THE ORIGINS OF THE 2CV: THE ‘TPV’ PROJECT

The ‘TPV’ (Toute Petite Voiture or very small car) project was initiated in 1936 to provide an affordable and versatile car for people with low incomes. In 1937, the first roadworthy prototype of the TPV project was created. Weighing only 370 kg and equipped with a single headlight, it could carry up to four people and 50 kg of luggage, reaching a top speed of 31mph. Its remarkable comfort allowed it to transport a basket of eggs across a plowed field without breaking any of them.

250 pre-production models were meant to be unveiled at the 1939 Paris Motor Show, but the outbreak of World War II prevented this. Most of the built models were destroyed, with only four secretly kept at the Citroën Test Centre.

A LEGENDARY CAR THAT HAS BECOME AN ICON OF THE MOTORING WORLD

When production began in July 1949, the 2CV featured a 9 bhp, 375 cc, air-cooled, flat-twin engine, capable of reaching a top speed of 31mph. Citroën’s creation revolutionized the car industry, offering a versatile and affordable vehicle.

Its distinctive body shape and appeal as a people’s car quickly made it popular. Its success was also due to its wide range of uses, removable benches, lightness, agility, comfort, and economical running costs, making it the most popular car in France. By 1950, there was a high demand for the 2CV, resulting in a waiting list of up to 6 years.

Its avant-garde spirit and innovative technologies ensured its presence in the automotive world. The 2CV is a timeless model that has become a social phenomenon, embedded in popular culture and sought after by collectors worldwide.

Even today, the 2CV can be seen on roads with various nicknames such as ‘Flying Dustbin,’ ‘Tin Snail,’ and ‘Ugly Duckling.’ These nicknames reflect the popularity and iconic status of this historic model.

SEVERAL VERSIONS AND EPIC JOURNEYS AROUND THE WORLD

There were ten special editions of the 2CV, launched in France and other European countries. These included models like the Spot, Charleston, and Cocorico. The 2CV underwent several changes over its lifetime, including the introduction of the 2CV van (2CV AU) in 1951 and the 2CV AZ in 1954, equipped with a 12 bhp engine and the famous centrifugal clutch.

Thanks to its durability and easy maintenance, the 2CV became the vehicle of choice for adventurous journeys. It successfully completed challenging trips like the 10,252-mile Paris-Kabul-Paris Raid in 1970, the 8,388-mile Paris-Persépolis Raid in 1971, and the 4,970-mile Africa Raid from Abidjan to Tunis in 1973, all organized by Citroën.

EIGHT ICONIC 2CVS PHOTOGRAPHED FOR THE OCCASION

In celebration of the 75th anniversary, eight iconic 2CVs from Citroën’s collection were photographed at the Citroën Conservatoire, showcasing their unique styles:

  • The 2CV 6 by Hermès, dressed by Hermès inside and out, was exhibited at the 2008 Paris Motor Show for the 60th birthday of the 2CV.
  • The 2CV 6 Spécial, one of the last 2CVs produced at the Levallois plant in 1988
  • The 2CV Spot, Citroën’s first special edition, featuring two-tone upholstery and bodywork by stylist Serge Gevin.
  • The 2CV A, one of the prototypes built in 1939 for the Motor Show, saved from destruction and kept at the Citroën Conservatoire.
  • The 2CV A Berline (1950), identical to the one revealed by Pierre Boulanger at the opening of the Paris Motor Show in 1948.
  • The right-hand-drive 2CV A, manufactured in Slough (UK) from 1953, making it the oldest British 2CV in Europe. It had a sheet-metal boot and opening rear windows.
  • The 2CV AZU, a 2CV van produced from 1954 to 1978, with a spacious load capacity and rear ‘cupboard’ doors for easy loading.
  • The 2CV 4 x 4 ‘Sahara’, featuring four-wheel drive and two engines, enabling it to tackle gradients of over 40 percent in the sand.

Citroën pays attention to detail with the design of the seats, which are upholstered in light-colored perforated leather, featuring Citroën’s signature herringbone pattern. The armrests are also upholstered in the same pale leather, giving the seats an inviting and comfortable appearance. The upper part of the seats and the headrests are finished in grey Alcantara®. Labels with ‘Infrared’ highlights and the Hypnos name have been added as well.

The bright interior is further enhanced with Karuun® light wood-effect decorative touches on the door panels and dashboard. CITROËN STREAMLINES ITS PASSENGER VEHICLE RANGE TO IMPROVE THE CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE

Citroën has simplified its vehicle range by launching three new trim levels: YOU, PLUS, and MAX. These new trim levels replace the previous Sense, Sense Plus, Shine, and Shine Plus names. The goal of this overhaul is to provide clearer and more transparent commercial offers that connect customers and Citroën’s sales network. The streamlined range aims to simplify the customer purchase process and build trust in the brand by offering well-defined options that are tailored to the needs and lifestyles of customers.

Citroën’s new range is inspired by the company’s desire to simplify the consumer experience, improve pricing fairness, and reduce delivery times. The range has been redesigned based on analysis of new consumer habits and a shift towards a more digital world.

A SIMPLIFIED RANGE, TAILORED TO CUSTOMER NEEDS

The new model range consists of three trim levels: YOU, PLUS, and MAX. This redefined range makes it easier for customers to understand the different trim levels, standard equipment, and options available. Each trim level is designed to meet customer needs and preferences.

The range reflects Citroën’s commitment to providing style and comfort. For example, the entry-level YOU trim for the C4 and C4 X models offers Citroën comfort, with features like Advanced Comfort Suspension®, Advanced Comfort Seats®, a 10-inch touchscreen with wireless smartphone mirroring, and rear parking sensors. The PLUS trim enhances the Citroën experience with a head-up display, a rear-view camera, and connected navigation. The MAX versions provide additional equipment such as hands-free access and adaptive cruise control with the Stop & Go function, along with unique style elements like dark-tinted rear windows and 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels.

Special ‘collection’ versions will also be available for each model range, such as the electric ë-Series collection for ë-C4, ë-C4 X, and C5 Aircross Hybrid and Plug-In Hybrid models.

AN IMPROVED CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE

By streamlining its range, Citroën aims to improve the buying experience, reduce costs, and minimize delivery lead times. The Citroën Advisor programme is one of the tools used to achieve these goals. It allows customers to provide transparent feedback and opinions on products, sales outlets, and service offerings.

The streamlined range and enhanced online navigation on the Citroën website make the buying process less complex and smoother for customers. Production, stock management, and cost controls have also been optimized to ensure fair pricing and shorter delivery lead times.

The Type-H inspired SpaceTourer is a tribute to Citroën’s heritage, created in collaboration with Italian coachbuilder Caselani. Caselani has previously developed several ‘neo-retro’ body styles for Citroën models.

‘Van life’ has become a popular way of travelling, and the Type Holidays camper sets itself apart with its unique design reminiscent of the classic Citroën Type H van. Citroën has previously explored the camper van market with concept vehicles such as the Hyphen, Rip Curl, and Citroënist. With the Type Holidays camper, Citroën is making a more substantial commitment to the camper van market.

  • Between 2017 and 2021, the police in England and Wales recorded 1,114 accidents resulting in injuries caused by defective road surfaces, which led to the serious injury of 355 individuals and the death of 16††.
  • 42% of surveyed drivers were not aware that they could file a claim with the relevant local authority to compensate for vehicle damage caused by potholes.
  • 46% of drivers avoid certain roads due to the risk of pothole damage.
  • A previous study by Citroën UK found that the amount spent on compensation in the last year could have filled an additional 340,000 potholes*.

Exclusive research by Citroën UK reveals that nearly 75% of UK drivers believe that the condition of the country’s roads poses a danger to motorists and other road users.

According to Citroën UK’s latest survey, 75% of respondents reported that their cars had sustained damage from potholes, requiring vehicle repairs. However, drivers lack knowledge on how to seek support after experiencing pothole damage, as 42% of those affected stated that they were unaware of the possibility of claiming compensation from the relevant local authority. Only 14% of those surveyed said they had previously claimed compensation from their local authority.

This recent research follows Citroën’s findings in May, which revealed that the total cost of compensation claims paid out last year due to pothole damage amounted to £22.7 million, equivalent to the average cost of filling 340,000 potholes.

Citroën UK compared figures from the Asphalt Industry Alliance over the past six years and discovered that £139.9 million had been spent on damage compensation since 2017. This amount could have filled an additional 2.3 million potholes**.

In the new study, Citroën asked drivers about their perception of the condition of UK roads over the past six years. Notably, 68% of respondents felt that the roads in the UK had worsened, while only 15% believed that the condition had improved since 2017. Almost half of all drivers (46%) stated that they avoid certain roads entirely due to the fear and risk of damage.

The East Midlands was identified as the region where drivers expressed the most concern about road conditions, with 56% of respondents stating that the roads in their area had deteriorated. In contrast, only 18% of drivers in London reported a decline in road conditions in their local area.

Greg Taylor, Managing Director of Citroën UK, commented, “The people of the UK are clearly concerned about the state of our roads. The Citroën Advanced Comfort Programme helps alleviate the discomfort of driving on damaged road surfaces and reduces the impact of hitting potholes for drivers. However, it is evident that more work needs to be done to improve road conditions nationwide and restore public confidence.”

Many Citroën models, such as the New C5 X, benefit from the Advanced Comfort® Programme, which includes enhanced suspension and supportive seating for a smoother ride. All versions of the New C5 X feature Citroën’s Progressive Hydraulic Cushion® technology, which incorporates hydraulic bump stops into the suspension system to better control compression and rebound on damaged surfaces.

The New C5 X also comes with Advanced Comfort® seats as standard, which feature broad cushions and seat backs. These seats combine high-density foam at the core and a 15mm thick layer of extra textured foam on the surface to provide comfort and relaxation for occupants traveling on the challenging road network in Britain.
