Top 10 Features Of The 2023 BMW X1

The 2023 BMW X1 might be the most affordable Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) in the Bavarian carmaker’s lineup. For the vehicle’s third generation, BMW gives the X1 a complete redesign. The new BMW X1 is bigger, bolder, and smarter while retaining a price tag that still makes it appealing to families looking for an entry-level luxury compact SUV.

The comprehensive upgrade might make you look at the 2023 BMW X1 twice, as the two-row SUV closely resembles its more premium X3 and X5 siblings. The latest X1 is wider, taller, and longer compared to the 2022 model. It looks chunkier with more aggressive lines and a less rounded exterior silhouette. The transformation is carried over to the interior, which clearly reflects the design ethos of BMW.

Aside from the cohesive makeover, BMW installed a more potent yet efficient engine under the hood of the X1. The vehicle is also packed with technologies to make the ride comfortable, safe, and pleasurable to the driver and passengers. Here are the best features of the 2023 BMW X1 that will help put it on top of the list of competition such as the Volvo XC40, Mercedes-Benz GLB, or the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque.

Looking at information from BMW, Kelley Blue Book, and Edmunds, we have put together a list of the best features of the 2023 BMW X1.

Gone are the days when the X1 is the humblest of the Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) brood of the BMW fleet. Aside from impressive 2023 BMW X1 specs sheets, the new iteration of the X1 represents a big leap in design that is meant to showcase the ride’s more adventurous character. Compared to the older model, the new X1 is 1.7 inches longer (177.2 inches), 0.9 inch wider (72.6 inches), and 1.7 inches taller (64.6 inches).

The bolder design makes use of more sculpted surfaces. The distinct kidney grille complements the more pronounced front end of the new BMW X1. The sides also evoke a more rugged look with flared wheel arches and a long roofline. Meanwhile, the rear further emphasizes the wider profile of the compact SUV manufactured by BMW at its Regensburg plant in Germany.

Other elements such as the standard 18-inch rims, black trim on the lower edge of the X1’s body, and exciting headlight design go consistent with the muscular stance of the ride.

The boxier dimension of the new BMW X1 translates to a roomier interior that seats five adults with enough headroom and legroom to boot. The seats in the 2023 BMW X1 were newly developed. Perforated leather-alternative SensaTec completes their tailored look, and more importantly, they were engineered to ensure you’re comfortable even during long drives.

The luggage capacity of the X1 to the rear is 25.7 cubic-feet and 57.2 cubic-feet when the rear seats are folded. This means the third-generation BMW X1 boasts of bigger cargo space than its top competitors such as the Audi Q3 (23.7 and 48 cubic-feet) or the three-row Mercedes-Benz GLB-Class (12.4 and 62 cubic-feet).

A clean dashboard layout will greet you when you enter the cabin of the X1. Other notable elegant yet functional design elements include a floating armrest, smartphone tray, slim air vents, door trims, enough room for coffee cups or water bottles, and ambient lighting.

3 Expansive Curved Display Gives You Total Control

The 2023 BMW X1 will not be left behind when it comes to impressive screens on the dashboard. A 10.25-inch Digital Instrument Cluster and a 10.7-inch Central Information Display are in the front and center of the driver-centric interior design. The screen real estate is a big upgrade from the 5.7-inch and 8.8-inch setup of the 2022 model X1. The BMW Curved Display runs with the iDrive 8 that’s now seamlessly compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Note that the iDrive rotary controller is gone. The latest system is geared toward intuitive touch and encourages users to use voice control to make the most of the tech-forward features of the vehicle. The crisp and responsive display and customizable graphic layout allow you to easily monitor the vehicle’s status or toggle functions and features that fit the driving situation.

On top of the 2023 BMW X1 specs is a potent powerplant. Under its hood is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The TwinPower BMW engine boasts 241 horsepower at 4,500 to 6,500 rpm and a 295 pound-feet of torque at 1,500 to 4,000 rpm. That’s a good spread of power and more than enough if you’re zipping in city streets or going for long highway drives. This engine and transmission combo can bring the X1 xDrive28i from 0-60 MPH in 6.2 seconds.

Despite being heftier, the 2023 BMW X1 consumes just around 3.6 gallons per 100 miles. It has a fuel economy rating of 25 MPG in the city and 34 MPG on the highway, or 28 MPG combined city/highway EPA rating.

The 2023 BMW X1 comes with the carmaker’s intelligent all-wheel drive

The 2023 BMW X1 xDrive28i, as the name suggests, is an all-wheel drive vehicle. The xDrive system intelligently sends power to all four wheels of the vehicle depending on the driving conditions. This ensures you maximize the traction while the vehicle remains stable and agile. In normal driving conditions that do not require power on all wheels, the system only sends power to the front wheels. However, during more challenging road conditions, the vehicle shifts the power to its rear wheels to improve traction and directional stability.

BMW redeveloped and improved the X1’s front and rear axle with positive effects on its performance, steering feedback, stability, and efficiency. The damping system has also been re-engineered to reduce body movement over bumps and better handle corners.

Meanwhile, the Collision Warning with a braking function can help you avoid accidents. It gives you visual and acoustic warnings when there’s a pedestrian or vehicle that you might hit in front or rear. The system can automatically apply the brakes to prevent an accident from happening.

Mazda MX-5 Miata Electric: Everything We Know So Far

# Mazda MX-5 Miata Electric: Everything We Know So Far

The Mazda MX-5 Miata has long been known as a lightweight, affordable, and two-seater sports car. It was first revealed in 1989 at the Chicago Auto Show and quickly gained popularity for its timeless design and sleek silhouette. The fourth generation of the MX-5 debuted in 2014 and has been praised for its technical prowess and nimble handling. However, with the automotive industry shifting towards electric vehicles due to stricter emissions regulations, there have been speculations about the future of the MX-5. Mazda recently announced its plans to transition to full electrification by 2030, raising questions about the fate of the iconic sports car. While there is still limited information about the upcoming Mazda MX-5 Miata Electric, it is expected to be worth the wait.

## Mazda Commits To The Original MX-5 Design

Mazda plans to electrify its entire lineup by 2030, with 25% of its models being fully battery-electric. The challenge for the Mazda MX-5 Miata, and other small roadsters, is adding weight while maintaining its inherent lightness. Batteries add significant weight, so a hybrid setup is the most likely outcome. This setup allows the car to maintain its portability without sacrificing acceleration. Mazda’s current powertrain portfolio includes mild hybrid and 48-volt versions, which are expected to be used in the MX-5 Electric. Mazda assures customers that despite the changes, the essence of the MX-5 Miata will remain the same – a lightweight, affordable, and open two-seater sports car.

## Mazda Is Investing In Miata Electric For More Features

Mazda has announced a $10.6 billion investment plan for speedy electrification. A video released by Mazda provides clues about the features of the upcoming MX-5. The video showcases a hardtop coupé body style with Lamborghini-style scissor doors, hinting at the new Miata design. The model’s chassis also includes a space for a longitudinally mounted motor, a feature not commonly seen in electric cars. Mazda has also revealed other electric vehicles in its lineup, including a petrol range extender version of the MX-30 and a follow-up to the CX-60 called the CX-80. Mazda plans to introduce a new hybrid system and additional battery-electric vehicles between 2025 and 2027.

## The Mazda Miata Electric Will Be Affordable

The Mazda MX-5 Miata Electric aims to be an affordable option among electric roadsters. While other upcoming electric sports cars like the MG Cyberster and the Porsche 718 Cayman are expected to be more expensive, Mazda plans to offer a compelling driving experience at a fraction of the cost. Mazda has previous experience with electric vehicles, having released the MX-30 R-EV earlier this year. The company has taken customer feedback into account and aims to improve upon previous models. Despite the challenges and competition, Mazda is committed to producing a high-quality electric MX-5.

## What Does The Future Hold For Mazda MX-5 Miata?

Mazda’s strategy revolves around delivering multiple solutions tailored to customer needs and local driving conditions. The company aims to embrace both hybrid and electric technology to make its mark in the evolving automotive industry. The reveal of the electric MX-5 by Mazda is highly anticipated by enthusiasts. With a goal of complete electrification by 2030, Mazda has time to perfect this project while maintaining its reputation for enthusiastic driving pleasure. Fans hope to see an ambitious product that combines Mazda’s classic design with the benefits of battery technology, creating the ultimate sports car. Only time will tell what the future holds for this iconic legacy.

2024 Toyota Supra And GR86 Honor MkIV, Initial D With New Special Editions

The Toyota GR86 and GR Supra are two sports cars with a long history. The Supra nameplate has been around since the 1980s, and the iconic fourth generation from the mid-90s is especially beloved by enthusiasts. The GR86 owes its existence to the Sprinter/Corolla AE86, even though the two cars don’t technically share a name. Now, both cars are getting special edition packages for 2024 that pay homage to their heritage.

The Supra’s 45th Anniversary Edition trim celebrates the nameplate as a whole, but also specifically references the MkIV Supra with certain unique features. The Mikan Blast paint job, which translates to orange in Japanese (referring to the fruit, not the color), is a subtle nod to the MkIV. It’s similar to the Plasma Orange Edition released overseas, and although Toyota hasn’t confirmed it, the designers likely took inspiration from Paul Walker’s Supra in The Fast And The Furious.

In addition to the orange paint, the Supra 45th Anniversary Edition also features black 19-inch wheels, a black graphics package along the door panels, and a gloss black adjustable rear wing. The rear wing is another subtle reference to the MkIV Supra, even though it’s smaller in size compared to the original.

The 45th Anniversary Edition package is available for the Supra 3.0 Premium grade, with either the eight-speed automatic or the six-speed manual transmission. The turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine remains unchanged, delivering 382 horsepower and 368 pound-feet of torque.

The Toyota GR86 Trueno Edition pays tribute to the original Sprinter Trueno – also known as the AE86 – which gained fame through its appearance in the anime Initial D. The GR86 Trueno Edition features a black-and-white, two-tone look reminiscent of the original, along with new 18-inch wheels, “Trueno” badges on the front and rear bumpers, and a matte black graphics package on the door panels and hood.

Unlike the Supra, the GR86 Trueno Edition also receives some performance upgrades. The Performance Pack, which debuts for 2024, includes upgraded Sachs dampers and Brembo brakes. This pack comes standard on the Trueno Edition, but owners of 2022 and 2023 GR86 models can also retrofit the option onto their cars.

For added safety, the 2024 GR86 with a manual transmission comes equipped with the new Active Safety Suite, which includes features such as automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, and high-beam headlight assist.

Both the Supra 45th Anniversary Edition and the GR86 Trueno Edition will be produced in limited quantities. Toyota plans to build just 900 examples of the Supra, with half in Mikan Orange and the other half in Absolute Zero white. There will be even fewer GR86 Trueno Editions, with only 860 examples available. These special edition sports cars are set to be released in winter, but pricing details have not been announced yet.

600-HP Toyota Supra Takes on 700-HP Nissan Silvia S15 in Drag Race

In a thrilling battle of modified Japanese sports coupes, a modern Toyota Supra goes head-to-head with a late 1990s and early 2000s S15 Nissan Silvia.

The Toyota Supra is equipped with a stock 3.0-liter inline-six engine but has been upgraded with a new turbo, downpipes, and exhaust. An ECU tune maximizes the modifications, resulting in a remarkable increase in horsepower to around 600, compared to the stock 382 hp. These modifications cost approximately $7,640 (6,000 pounds).

The Nissan Silvia owner, on the other hand, has invested at least $102,000 (80,000 pounds) in modifying the car. The engine has been overhauled to a larger 2.2-liter displacement from the stock 2.0 liters, and a massive turbo has been added. As a result, the Japanese coupe now produces about 700 hp, significantly more than the factory’s 247 hp.

The competition begins with heads-up drag races. The Toyota Supra is equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission, while the Nissan Silvia has a traditional manual transmission. Launching the Silvia properly proves challenging, giving the Supra an advantage in these races.

Next, they race from a roll, eliminating the launching skill factor. The first run starts from 30 miles per hour in second gear. Initially, the two cars are neck-and-neck, but the Silvia quickly builds enough boost and takes the lead.

They repeat the race at 50 mph in third gear. The Silvia’s engine takes a little longer to spool up the necessary boost, but it ultimately secures another victory.

The final race sees both cars in their top gear. Although the acceleration is relatively slow, the Silvia manages to boost its turbo first and emerges victorious.

In other news, there are rumors suggesting that Nissan plans to revive the Silvia name for an electric sports car, set to arrive in 2025. However, no further details are currently available.

The Nissan Silvia has historically been positioned as a performance car towards the lower end of Nissan’s lineup. Models like the Z and Skyline GT-R offer higher performance but at a higher price point. It can be compared to the Toyota Celica, where buyers had the option to upgrade to a Supra for greater power.

Subaru Developing EyeSight Safety Technology for Manual Transmission Vehicles

While driving a sports car with a manual transmission is an unmatched experience, these configurations often have limitations when it comes to driver assist systems. Subaru has announced that it is currently working on integrating its EyeSight family of safety technologies into models equipped with manual transmissions.

In an official press release, the Japanese automaker confirms that it is adapting EyeSight to suit the driving and operating characteristics of vehicles with manual transmissions. Once the development work is complete, the system will be able to function in various conditions and provide critical assistance to the driver, similar to how EyeSight operates in vehicles with automatic transmissions.

“Our goal was totally clear,” says Hartweg: “The GSe models must offer the optimum balance between driving comfort and performance-oriented handling – together with responsibility for the future.”

The most important assets in this process are the electrified plug-in hybrid powertrains and the chassis, which are fully adapted to the higher performance.

In the case of the Grandland GSe, the combination of two electric motors and a 1.6-litre 200PS turbocharged petrol engine equates to a total power output of 300PS and acceleration of 0-62mph in just 6.1 seconds thanks to the electric all-wheel drive. This makes the Grandland GSe the most powerful Vauxhall on sale today.

For Astra GSe variants, the electrified powertrain produces 225PS and 360Nm of torque – up from 180PS on standard variants, with a 0-62mph acceleration taking just 7.5 seconds. The specifically tuned GSe engine sound enhances the experience further.

“The Astra GSe is immediately recognisable by its specially designed front end and sportier stance, which we lowered by 10millimetres,” says Hartweg. “And they are a lot of fun. In corners, the GSe models stick to the road and remain stable – and they can be driven very dynamically but also very comfortably.”

This is made possible by special springs and dampers with KONI FSD (Frequency Selective Damping) technology, which are used in the GSe chassis. The FSD technology provides different damping characteristics at high frequencies (to control the suspension) and at low frequencies (focusing on the body), helping improve ride comfort regardless of the road surface condition and driving style. FSD technology is available across both Grandland and Astra GSe models.

The GSe models react directly to any command from the driver and, as is typical for Vauxhall, remain stable when braking, cornering and at high speeds. “The dampers have an additional valve and a second hydraulic circuit,” explains the Hartweg. “The car is then more comfortable or sportier to drive, depending on whether the valve is open or closed. GSe stands for ‘Grand Sport electric’ – sporty driving behaviour with the latest plug-in hybrid technology. Driving engagement has never been so smart.”

New set-up for all Grandland variants

The development of the chassis and steering has not just been limited to GSe models. All Vauxhall Grandland variants now benefit from improved damping and steering, with Vauxhall engineers having increased the damping force in the low piston speed range and reduced it in the medium-to-high-speed range to improve comfort when driving over poor road surfaces. The steering has also been recalibrated for a more direct and precise feel.

The new steering and suspension calibration is available on Grandland models on sale now.
