Toyota is getting ready to unveil a faster and more powerful version of the Supra GRMN. While key details such as the powertrain are still unknown, recent spy photos and videos have hinted at some visual changes to the high-performance coupe.

A new rendering has removed the camouflage that the Supra has been hiding under, giving us a glimpse of its updated styling. The render shows a new front spoiler lip, bumper canards, and a different rear wing. It is also possible that Toyota will tweak the front bumper’s design.

The Toyota Supra is known for its turbo straight six engine, and the absence of it in the modern version would definitely feel odd. Although it may not match the power and flexibility of a BMW Motorsport six-cylinder engine, the B58 engine seems to suit the Supra well. Even though I’ve only had the car for a few days, it feels fast and has good torque and revs.

I’m particularly interested in exploring the ride and handling of the Supra manual. Toyota has used the development of the manual version to improve the car’s adaptive dampers, power steering, and anti-roll bar bushes. We previously praised the car’s compliant touring ride, but were less positive about its body control on rough roads and the driver’s connection with the front wheels. I’m eager to see how much progress has been made.

What truly intrigues me is the process of fully experiencing the dynamic character of an analog sports car. Few manufacturers still offer classic, front-engined, rear-wheel-drive, manual transmission sports cars. I’m excited to spend weeks and months adjusting drive mode settings and tire pressures to achieve the perfect driving experience.

Unfortunately, as road testers, we rarely have the luxury of time to do this. Test cars come and go within a few days, and there are fewer cars with a straightforward mechanical setup that invite such tinkering in the first place.

Ordering the GR Supra is relatively straightforward as well. If you opt for the larger engine, you have the choice between standard and Pro equipment specifications, as well as manual or automatic gearboxes. However, if you prefer a simpler and more affordable trim, the manual transmission is your only option.

And that’s what we have. No fancy leather seats, premium stereo, or adaptive cruise control for us. Just a simple sports car with ample features, and plenty of driving to truly get to know it. I’m ready for the experience!

2025 Toyota Supra GRMN Spotted in Spy Photos, Riding Low

The Toyota Supra GRMN, short for “Gazoo Racing Masters of the Nürburgring,” has been captured in spy photos. The high-performance variant was seen undergoing testing at the Nürburgring racetrack with minimal camouflage. The camouflage does little to hide the prominent wing at the back, which seems to be inspired by the rear aero piece on the 45th Anniversary Edition.

At the front, the canards on the bumper’s edges and the spoiler lip are immediately noticeable. On the sides, the prototype sits particularly low to the ground due to a stiffer suspension setup. The Supra GRMN features new, presumably lightweight wheels with larger brakes and striking red calipers. It is important to note that the production version may differ from this prototype, as Toyota is likely to make changes to the bumpers as well.

The most valuable iteration of the Toyota Supra is the fourth generation, which was in production from 1993 to 2002. When it was first released in 1998, it carried a price tag of under $31,000. However, over the years, its value has appreciated significantly. Today, depending on its condition, a 1998 Supra can fetch anywhere between $35,000 and $65,000, with some exceptional examples selling for over $100,000 each.

The fourth generation Supra boasted a twin-turbo 3.0-liter straight-six engine that churned out 312 horsepower and 315 pounds-feet of torque. With this power, the 3,265-pound coupe could race from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 177 mph. Additionally, buyers had the option to choose a model with a removable targa top. The 18.5-gallon fuel tank and the highway fuel mileage of 22 mpg offered a cruising range of over 400 miles.

Despite these impressive features, the declining popularity of two-door coupes in the U.S. market as the 21st century began led to the discontinuation of the Supra after the 2002 model year. The nameplate remained dormant until 2019, when the Supra returned in its current iteration.
