Stark Future Challenges FIM Over MXGP’s Electric Segregation

At the top of February 2024, we advised you about the battle brewing between electric motorcycle startup Stark Future and the FIM. Stark Future primarily expended a complete bunch of time, effort, and assets to satisfy the FIM’s rules as written in order that its bike might compete within the SuperEnduro World Championship in 2024.

At the final second, nevertheless, the FIM modified the foundations seemingly with the specific function of barring the Stark Varg from entry. Why? It was to be the lone electrical bike in a area of combustion bikes.

Needless to say, Stark Future wasn’t completely happy. Fast-forward to March 2024, when the FIM simply introduced a brand new electrical motorbike racing assist collection to run earlier than (however crucially, not in opposition to) the MXGP class. In reality, Stark Future’s official announcement of its opposition to this plan makes its emotions fairly clear proper within the title: Stark Future Challenges MXGP Proposal for Segregated Electric Support Class.

In different phrases, separate and unequal, in keeping with Stark.

2023 Mission Foods Super Hooligan Racing Results

2023 Mission Foods Super Hooligan Racing Results

Instead, Stark Future says, it needs to see integration of electrical bikes into racing head-to-head with combustion bikes. Less MotoE and extra RSD Super Hooligan Racing.

Because whereas it is not SuperEnduro, we have already seen what can occur when a strong electrical bike, crew, and rider sq. off in opposition to an all-combustion area. I talked to Stefano Mesa in 2023, when he managed to complete in fourth place general within the Mission Foods Super Hooligan Racing 2023 class on his Energica Eva Ribelle. They had been the one electrical crew on the grid, and Mesa was recurrently scrapping on the entrance. It was additionally Energica’s first full season racing within the collection.

That was 2023, although, and likewise a totally completely different collection not overseen by the FIM. Here’s what Stark Future mentioned in its official assertion asserting its opposition to the FIM and Infront’s plans to silo off the electrical superenduro racing from MXGP.

“Stark Future, a prominent innovator in motocross, firmly opposes MXGP/ Infront’s proposal to introduce a separate Electric Support Class alongside MXGP events. While recognizing the goal of driving technological advancements, Stark Future believes that segregation is not the solution. Instead, seeing integration as an opportunity for all sides to thrive. By embracing new technologies at the highest level of racing, Stark Future envisions making racing more captivating for fans while fostering the strongest technological improvements across the board,” the assertion reads.

Stark Future bags its first win at the British Arenacross Championship

Stark Future baggage its first win on the British Arenacross Championship. It would later go on to win all the championship with rider Jack Brunell.

Further down, there’s additionally an announcement from Stark Future founder and CEO Anton Wass, which reads, “As CEO and Founder of Stark Future, I firmly believe that segregating electric bikes into a separate class undermines the essence of true competition in motocross. Our mission is to break barriers and showcase the potential of electric technology on equal footing with internal combustion engines.”

He continued, “Motocross thrives on innovation and pushing boundaries, and segregation only hinders our collective progress towards a more inclusive and dynamic sport. World Trials have done a great job on including Electric with combustion and have shown that when the platform is competitive it has its place amongst combustion counterparts.”

Maybe we have already got the reply to the query that RideApart contributor Tim Stevens posed in that earlier Stark Future/FIM piece, about why motorbike racing is afraid of this electrical bike? Maybe it is afraid that the Stark Varg might be too aggressive proper out of the gate, so as an alternative it modified the rules to maintain that from occurring.

We clearly cannot let you know what was within the hearts and minds of the parents who modified the foundations, however when considered with a essential eye, there’s greater than sufficient to make you increase an eyebrow.

Everything To Know About The British-Made ‘Challenger’ Main Battle Tanks

Weighing 64 tons, the Challenger 2 is likely one of the heaviest primary battle tanks round, nevertheless it nonetheless has plenty of velocity regardless of the majority. Most of the burden is right down to the tank’s heavy armor plating. Flat out, Britain’s primary battle tank will do 37 mph. This is noticeably slower than the likes of the Leopard 2 and M1 Abrams, however nonetheless pretty quick contemplating the automobile’s weight. The tanks which can be upgraded to Challenger 3s over the subsequent few years will obtain a brand new engine which ought to up the velocity to a point.

With its gasoline tanks full, the Challenger 2 has an efficient operational vary of 340 miles — although that drops if the tank is working off-road. The primary gun is a 120mm L30A1 designed primarily as an anti-tank weapon. The L30A1’s barrel can be rifled, although there’s plenty of debate about how a lot of a bonus that gives in a tank. Given that the Challenger 3’s primary gun will probably be smoothbore, the rifling in all probability wasn’t well worth the effort. The gun additionally has sights on the barrel, which is fairly distinctive to the Challenger 2.

Despite its thick armor, the Challenger 2 does have one fairly important weak point: it is one of many few trendy tanks with exterior gasoline tanks. The gasoline tanks are hooked up to the rear of the automobile, and theoretically susceptible to assault. Maintenance could also be one other challenge, with the Challenger requiring two instrument kits because the hull is constructed with imperial measurements and fittings whereas the turret is constructed utilizing the metric system.

What is direct air seize and the way does it work?

In the battle to scale back world CO2 emissions, the emphasis has up to now been on making much less of it, however just a few automotive firms are methods to take away the gasoline instantly from the environment as effectively.

A course of known as direct air seize (DAC) makes use of chemical filters to soak up CO2 from air handed by means of them. CO2 is required to make artificial fuels, being mixed with hydrogen to make methanol, which then undergoes additional processing to provide the ultimate product: a direct substitute for petrol or, in one other formulation, as aviation gas.

It’s this that Porsche and associate agency Highly Innovative Fuels are doing on the latter’s Haru Oni pilot plant in Chile, the place industrial-scale DAC expertise can also be being developed to provide the CO2 wanted to make the carbon-neutral gas.

As effectively as growing engines that combust hydrogen and artificial fuels off the again of its motorsport programmes, Toyota is experimenting with an on-board DAC system fitted to a Corolla H2 race automobile (which is powered by gaseous hydrogen).

It works utilizing a filter on the air consumption to soak up CO2 in a lot the identical means because the Haru Oni plant however on a a lot smaller scale.

There are two filters: one forward of the consumption air filter, which absorbs CO2 from ambient air ingested by the engine on the price of 60 litres per second, and one in a sizzling spot close to the oil cooler on the entrance of the automobile.

According to Toyota, this cell DAC system has a bonus in that it doesn’t eat further vitality by powering followers to power air by means of seize filters (that’s performed by the motion of the automobile by means of the air).

Nor does it eat vitality by means of producing warmth wanted to extract the CO2 from the filters. In this case, warmth from the engine oil feed is used to do the job, and as soon as the CO2 is launched, it’s dissolved in a restoration fluid.

Developed by Kawasaki Heavy Industries, this DAC filter expertise makes use of a white, granular, strong sorbent, each gram of which supplies a floor space of roughly 370 sq. metres.

CO2 is extracted at 60deg C, a decrease temperature than that required by another forms of materials. For now, the quantity captured is pretty modest, at round 20g each 56 miles, and filters are manually changed throughout each pit cease.

The subsequent stage is to extend the speed of seize and develop a system that capabilities mechanically. Kawasaki hopes to see these methods capturing CO2 on a big scale by 2030.

While the thought might sound far-fetched, Audi and provider Mann+Hummel started trials final 12 months of the Audi Air Purifier, a particulate filter mounted forward of the radiator to seize atmospheric particulates.

While all of those tasks have a technique to go, the thought of vehicles capturing free-range pollution moderately than simply people who they’ve generated themselves appears interesting.

“The focus for 2024 is honestly just to get back out there and get my feet wet again,” mentioned Stewart. “2023 was a pretty short-lived year for me, it was kind of more for me to get back going and to finish what I started last year. I was looking really good, A1 was going very well, we had one little incident and we won a heat race, so we had some big flashes, but it just ended too quickly. This is part of racing and things happen, but I have had a really good recovery so far, and training has been going well this off-season with a good group of guys that Im surrounded with. I am excited for the new year, I need to put in some results, so am very focused and driven for this one. Supercross was massive for me because I had seven podiums in seven years and then last year I had eight in total, so that was a really big step in my career. The next step is to get the red plate, so that is the goal going into the season. Ive never raced in a stadium before, so Im sure it’s going to be something new and Im going to be a little nervous, but hopefully it gets better after the first round.”

Exciting teenage prospect Cochran has graduated to the skilled ranks with Rockstar Energy Husqvarna full-time for 2024, the 17-year-old trying to construct upon the Supercross Futures AMA National Championship that he received in 2023, whereas studying his craft as an expert within the sport.

Its a super-cool opportunity because we have worked our whole lives for this deal, this contract, to be on a factory team, so I am super-excited to be here and have a great team around me and ready to get to work. I have always personally liked Supercross better than outdoors, so I am excited to race indoors. I raced Futures last year and that was a good experience, so the more indoors, the better!”

The 690-Mile 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger Solves A Major Problem With Electric Trucks

Recall the Ram 1500 REV? It is an upcoming full-size electric pickup meant to compete with the Silverado EV and F-150 Lightning due to its 500-mile claimed maximum range. Despite the possibility of the real-world range differing by 20 percent, Stellantis’ estimated 500-mile range is still impressive.

Stellantis also pledged a range extender model to complement the Ram 1500 REV, which has now been unveiled as the 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger – resurrecting a name previously used for a Dodge K5 Blazer and Bronco competitor. Unlike its predecessor, this model is luxurious but highly capable and addresses a significant obstacle hindering mainstream adoption of electric pickups.

The data used in this article was compiled from various manufacturer websites like Ram/Stellantis, Ford, Chevrolet, and other authoritative sources, including the AAA to ensure accuracy and currency.

The Ramcharger Presents The Segment’s First Range Extender EV

If you’re considering an electric pickup but concerned about range and reduced usability, the 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger combines the advantages of an internal combustion engine (ICE) and an electric vehicle (EV). Although technically a plug-in hybrid, the range extender offers more than meets the eye.

663 Horses Combined!

The Ram 1500 Ramcharger features a 92 kWh lithium-ion battery pack powering a dual-motor all-wheel drive system with a combined output of 663 horsepower and 615 pound-feet of torque. It outperforms the Ram 1500 REV but matches its 0-60 mph time of 4.4 seconds, despite producing less torque.

A V-6 To Save The Day

The Ramcharger incorporates a familiar 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6, which acts as a generator to charge the battery without sending power to the truck’s wheels. With a 690-mile estimated range, it surpasses all current electric pickups on the market and can accept up to 145 kW of DC fast charging.

A Strong Sense Of Déja Vu

The 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger’s exterior resembles the current generation Ram 1500 with some minor styling revisions. The model retains the partially enclosed grille and illuminated Ram logo, functional vents, exclusive alloy wheels, and incorporates the LED taillights and tailgate from the Ram 1500 REV.

If The Gas-Red Ram 1500 And REV Had A Baby

The vehicle shares some styling cues with the standard Ram 1500 as part of the latter’s mid-cycle update. The Ramcharger’s plush interior includes a standard 12.3-inch fully-digital instrument cluster, a choice between 12- or 14.5-inch infotainment systems, an optional 10.25-inch front passenger display, and a 23-speaker Klipsch audio system.

The Ramcharger Solves A Major Problem

The 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger’s familiar look and feel are revolutionized by an innovative drivetrain, solving a major hurdle with electric pickups—reduced range when fully loaded. The model’s 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 range extender ensures minimal impact when hauling cargo, delivering a payload capacity of 2,625 pounds and a towing capacity of 14,000 pounds.

No Need To Worry About Range When Fully Loaded

The inclusion of a 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 ensures little range reduction under load. The Ram 1500 Ramcharger’s payload and towing capacities outmatch those of its electric pickup rivals, making it a compelling option for buyers seeking utility without sacrificing range.

The V-6 Engine Isn’t New, But That’s A Good Thing

The proven Pentastar V-6 ensures reliability and durability, addressing potential concerns about the novel range extender. Furthermore, the Ramcharger’s expected longevity and service life benefit from the V-6’s constant RPM operation.

The Ramcharger Is A Perfect Stop-gap Between ICE And Electric Pickup Trucks

The 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger eliminates concerns about range reduction when fully loaded, offering a familiar experience with a revolutionary drivetrain. This electrified truck represents a significant step toward facilitating the adoption of electric pickups for buyers prioritizing utility and range.

You Have To Wait Until 2025

The 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger is available for order now but won’t reach dealers until the end of 2024. In contrast, the fully-electric Ram 1500 REV is set to debut in early 2024.

Watch This 5-Way Drag Race Featuring Your Favorite Middleweight Naked Bikes

Drag races are exciting and it’s always fun to watch our favorite motorcycles compete for straight-line dominance. However, most drag races focus on high-power superbikes and heavily modified machines. That’s why Bike World’s latest video is refreshing as it showcases the straight-line performance of popular middleweight naked bikes.

As a fan of middleweight naked bikes, I was immediately interested in this video. I currently own two bikes from this segment, the Yamaha MT-07 and Triumph Street Triple RS. Bike World’s test features five of the most popular middleweight naked bikes on the market: Kawasaki Z650, Yamaha MT-07, Suzuki GSX-8S, KTM 790 Duke, and Aprilia Tuono 660.

These bikes share common characteristics such as lightweight chassis, 100 horsepower or less, and affordable price tags. They represent the entry-level intermediate models for these manufacturers, striking a balance between performance and technology. If you’re familiar with these bikes, you can probably guess which one would be the fastest without even watching the video.

The Kawasaki Z650, the slowest bike in terms of power, was used in the test. It’s based on an older platform with an engine that has been around for almost two decades. The Z650 completed the quarter mile in a respectable 13.3 seconds.

Next up were the Yamaha MT-07 and Suzuki GSX-8S. The MT-07, although not as old as the Kawasaki, has been around for a while with minimal changes. It set a time of 12.8 seconds. The GSX-8S, with its 10-horsepower advantage over the Yamaha, achieved a slightly quicker time of 12.5 seconds.

The European contenders, the KTM 790 Duke and Aprilia Tuono 660, then battled it out. The KTM offers impressive performance and technology at a great value, while the Tuono 660 boasts the highest power output of 100 horsepower. Surprisingly, both bikes completed the quarter mile in 11.9 seconds, with the Tuono 660 winning by a narrow margin.

It’s important to note that all five bikes are fast, even the Z650’s time of 13.3 seconds is quicker than some performance-oriented cars. For example, the Subaru WRX has a quarter-mile time of about 13.6 seconds. Additionally, the test was conducted in wet conditions, so faster times could be expected on dry asphalt.

Is Another Harley-Davidson X 440-Based Model On The Way In India?

Back in mid-September 2023, we informed you about a potential trademark dispute between Hero MotoCorp and Ultraviolette over the trademark for the X 440. This bike, developed in a partnership between Hero and Harley-Davidson, features a Harley-Davidson badge. Ultraviolette registered its opposition to this trademark, claiming that it resembled its own application for the name “X44.”

While there is no update on the specific Hero trademark at this time, there is some interesting information about another trademark filed by Hero MotoCorp. On March 6, 2023, Hero applied for two trademarks. One of them is for the name “Hurikan,” which may not seem significant on its own.

However, the second trademark filed on the same day is for “Hurikan 440.” This suggests a connection to the Harley-Davidson X440 in some way.

Both trademarks related to Hurikan have been accepted and advertised according to records from Intellectual Property India. The trademark for Hurikan 440 was published in journal 2119-0 on August 28, 2023, while the trademark for Hurikan was published in journal 2124-0 on October 2, 2023.

Although the naming convention seems related to the Harley-Davidson X 440, there is no evidence yet to suggest what exactly the Hurikan and Hurikan 440 could refer to. There have been no reports of test mules or models with these designations from Hero or other motorcycle manufacturers in India.

It is uncertain whether the names Hurikan and Hurikan 440 are intended for use under Hero MotoCorp or Harley-Davidson branding. The trademark for the X 440 was applied for by Hero MotoCorp, not Harley-Davidson, as shown in the Ultraviolette trademark opposition documents.

Typically, major motorcycle manufacturers invest time and money into research and development for a new bike and then use it as a platform for multiple models. While trademark registrations do not always translate into actual products, if Hurikan does materialize, we will keep you informed about any new developments.

Jeep-like Mahindra Roxor May Be Sold In US, Court Rules

The legal dispute between Stellantis and Mahindra regarding the sale of the Jeep-like Roxor in the United States has taken a new turn. The Eastern District Court of Michigan has ruled that the post-2020 version of the Roxor can be sold in the US, as reported by Automotive News.

This conflict originated in 2018 when Mahindra introduced the Roxor in the US. Initially, the vehicle had vertical slits in the grille, which gave it a similar appearance to the Jeep CJ models. Stellantis, previously known as FCA, filed a complaint with the US International Trade Commission to prevent the entry of the small SUV into the country. A judge determined that the Roxor infringed upon Jeep’s trade dress.

Ford Builds Firefighting Bronco, Donates It To National Park In New Mexico

Ford has created a specialized version of the Bronco SUV to serve as a mobile firefighting command vehicle at Bandelier National Monument in New Mexico. This modified Bronco is designed to access remote areas and provide up-to-date information to firefighters.

The firefighting Bronco is a collaboration between Ford and Darley, a manufacturer of fire and rescue vehicles.
