2024 RAM Rampage Vs. 2023 Ford Maverick

Trucks have always been popular in the American market, but with rising vehicle and fuel prices, more buyers are looking for smaller and more fuel-efficient options. Enter the compact truck, a crossover with a truck bed that offers the practicality of a truck in a more economical and maneuverable package. Ford’s Maverick has been the most famous compact truck so far, but Ram has recently introduced the Rampage for the South American market, and there are rumors of it coming to the U.S. market.

Ram Rebel Vs. Ford Maverick: Trims

The Ram Rebel trim is the starting point for the model, offering a turbo diesel engine, a nine-speed automatic transmission, all-wheel drive, and several safety features. It also comes with a 12.3-inch infotainment system and 17-inch wheels as standard. On the other hand, Ford’s equivalent XL trim has steel wheels, automatic LED headlights, a wifi hotspot, and a smaller infotainment system. The base model of the Maverick is more basic compared to the Rampage.

The Ram offers more premium options with the Laramie trim, which includes leather seats, a chrome exterior finish, and 18-inch diamond-cut wheels. The Maverick’s XLT trim, on the other hand, features 17-inch aluminum wheels and body-colored bumpers. The top-of-the-line Ram Rampage R/T is focused on sportiness, with leather and suede seats, a sport suspension, dual exhaust, and 19-inch gloss black wheels. The Maverick’s most luxurious trim is the Lariat, which offers leather seats, ambient lighting, keyless entry, 18-inch wheels, dual-zone climate control, and a leather steering wheel.

These Upgrades Include

  • One inch of suspension lift
  • Rear locker
  • Bedside graphics
  • Smoked headlights and taillights
  • Orange accents
  • Dark-painted 17-inch wheels.

Which Compact Pickup Has The Better Interior?

The Ram’s interior is more premium with better materials and an upscale design. All trim levels come with a big 12.3-inch infotainment system and a 10.3-inch digital instrument cluster. Every Rampage model also has dual-zone climate control and an optional 10-speaker Harman Kardon sound system. On the other hand, the Ford Maverick has a more budget-friendly interior with cheaper materials like hard plastics and a smaller eight-inch touch screen. However, it still offers unique textures and colors, useful storage pockets, storage under the second row, and an off-road trim level called Tremor. The Maverick also has an optional eight-speaker sound system with a subwoofer.

Which Small Truck Looks Better

The aesthetic preference is subjective, but the Maverick sticks to Ford’s design language and resembles their larger trucks, giving it a cohesive look within the brand’s truck lineup. It may look more basic, but it still fits in as a light-duty truck. The Rampage, on the other hand, has a more aggressive look but retains the unmistakable Ram design. It comes down to personal opinion on which one looks better, but the Rampage appears sportier while the Maverick has a more rugged look.

The Ford Has The Edge In Performance

The Ram Rebel and Laramie come standard with a 2.0-liter turbo diesel engine that offers 170 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. While it excels in efficiency and low-end torque for towing, its performance isn’t exceptional. The Rampage also offers an optional 2.0-liter hurricane turbo engine with 272 horsepower and 292 pound-feet of torque, resulting in a faster 0-60 time of 6.9 seconds. However, this engine’s fuel economy is not great at 19 MPG city and 23 MPG highway.

The base Maverick comes with a 2.5-liter hybrid engine paired with a CVT transmission, producing a combined output of 191 horsepower and 155 pound-feet of torque. It boasts impressive fuel economy at 42 MPG city and 32 MPG highway, with a 0-60 time of 7.6 seconds. The Maverick’s optional 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine offers 250 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. It has a faster 0-60 time of 6.5 seconds but slightly lower fuel economy at 23 MPG city and 30 MPG highway.

Can The Rampage Match The Ford?

While not confirmed for the U.S. market yet, the Rampage has the potential to compete with the Maverick and offer a more luxurious option. The Ram brand has managed to fill a segment within the compact truck niche that hasn’t been fully explored. If the Rampage comes to the U.S., there might be slight differences in powertrain options, and an off-road-oriented trim level would be a welcomed addition. This would provide further competition to the Maverick Tremor and appeal to consumers who enjoy exploring off-road terrain.

Past And Present MotoGP Icons Grace The 2023 Goodwood Festival Of Speed

The Goodwood Festival of Speed is an annual motorsports event that celebrates the rich legacy of motor racing while embracing the modern era. The festival showcases historic vehicles and pays homage to the passion and camaraderie that define the world of motorsports.

Despite the wet weather, both past and present MotoGP icons showcased their skills on the track. Pol Espargaro, Michele Pirro, Mika Kallio, and Lorenzo Savadori were among the riders who displayed the 2023 lineup of race bikes, representing GasGas Factory Racing, Ducati Lenovo Racing Team, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing, and Aprilia Racing, respectively.

The following day focused on the legends and icons who have shaped MotoGP. The highlight was the appearance of Casey Stoner, who rode his iconic Ducati Desmosedici GP with the Number 1 livery from the 2008 season. Stoner’s presence evoked nostalgia and reminded fans of the excitement during the peak of MotoGP. Other notable icons who joined the event included Kevin Schwants, Wayne Gardner, Randy Mamola, and Kenny Roberts Jr.

Aleix Espargaró Receives His 2016 Suzuki GSX-RR as a Gift

Aleix Espargaró, the Aprilia rider and amateur YouTuber, has recently added a special item to his private collection. He now owns his very own Suzuki GSX-RR from the 2016 MotoGP season. This acquisition is a significant milestone for Espargaró, who has been sharing his life as a racing driver on YouTube, giving fans a behind-the-scenes look at his daily routines and showcasing his impressive garage.

Suzuki went the extra mile to rescue his 2016 GP bike from being destroyed. While some bikes were saved for display at museums, Espargaró was fortunate enough to be considered for an exemption. Hopefully, the 2022 GSX-RR ridden by Alex Rins will also be preserved.

This particular GP bike holds sentimental value for Espargaró as it is the exact bike he rode during the 2016 MotoGP season. The GSX-RR was loaded into Espargaró’s motorhome by his mechanic, Robert, during a stopover in Milan.

Overwhelmed with excitement, the 33-year-old Catalan expressed his gratitude, stating, “It’s not a dream, it’s real! Suzuki has actually given me the GSX-RR that I competed with in the 2016 MotoGP World Championship. I’m almost moved to tears; it’s truly a goosebumps moment. It’s incredible. Normally, it’s impossible to obtain a Japanese MotoGP machine for personal ownership. I’ve always inquired about it, and the answer has consistently been no. However, when they retired from MotoGP, they contacted me and offered the bike that initiated the project as a token of gratitude. At first, I thought it was a joke, but after a year and a half of paperwork and contracts, the 2016 GSX-RR #41 is now in my possession.”

The only modification made to the bike was replacing the front fairing with the original one, excluding winglets. When Espargaró took his old GSX-RR for a test ride, he was amazed by its size, saying, “I didn’t remember it being so small—almost as narrow as a Moto2 Kalex. It’s incredible how MotoGP bikes have evolved over the years. The 2016 Suzuki is remarkably beautiful, but undoubtedly, today’s MotoGP bikes are much more competitive.”

Espargaró showed his appreciation to Suzuki, Sahara-san, Davide, and Roberto Brivio for making this extraordinary acquisition possible. He emphasized the sentimental value of the bike, stating, “It’s a dream; I feel like a little kid. Seeing the bike again was an incredibly emotional experience because it symbolizes where it all began. Suzuki was the first manufacturer to believe in me and subsequently changed my life. It was through Suzuki that Aprilia noticed me, leading to victories and podium finishes… That’s why this bike holds such a special place in my heart.”

Espargaró raced for Suzuki in 2015 and 2016, finishing in 11th place in the World Championship on both occasions. Although he didn’t achieve a shared podium, he did secure an impressive pole position at the 2015 Catalunya GP.

BMW Z4 With a Nascar Engine Designed to Dominate Hillclimbs

In motorsport events around the world, you’ll often find at least one BMW on the list of participants. These BMWs are typically modified in various ways. However, there are individuals who believe that merely turbocharging a naturally-aspirated BMW engine is insufficient. One such person is Jimmy Giannoccaro, the owner of G&H Transport in South Africa, who has a racing background in Zambia. With both the financial resources and the experience, Giannoccaro has created something truly unique – a BMW Z4 with a Nascar V8 engine under its hood.

The project began with a roughly 10-year-old 5.7-liter naturally-aspirated Nascar engine imported from the United States to South Africa. The engine was then meticulously fit into the engine bay of the BMW. However, as the owner recalls, the car performed poorly last year, so they decided to start from scratch to improve its performance for this year’s Knysna Simola Hillclimb, the premier motorsport event in South Africa.

Among the modifications made to the Z4, the Americanized coupe was equipped with a sequential gearbox and a drivetrain borrowed from a BMW M5 to deliver power to the rear wheels. The engine was also converted from carburetors to fuel injection, which posed its own set of challenges. Additionally, the car’s brakes were upgraded to an AP Racing set with 15-inch rotors on all corners. The car now features luxuries such as a traction control system, ABS, and launch control, which were absent in the previous iteration.

The 5.7-liter Hendrick Motorsports engine is located behind the front wheels, effectively making the BMW Z4 a front mid-engine machine. Currently, the engine is limited to 7,500 rpm, but the owner plans to increase it to an ideal target of 9,000 rpm in the future. The car currently produces around 590 horsepower and 468 pound-feet of torque, which is commendable for a naturally-aspirated race car.

In terms of aesthetics, the team imported a genuine GT3 body kit from Germany, making Giannoccaro’s Z4 the first in South Africa to have such a appearance. It’s truly an impressive creation. After watching the video above, we’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments section below.

Are you ready for the 101st running of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb in 2023? This renowned event takes place on the famous Colorado mountain and offers a thrilling race experience like no other. And the best part is, you can watch all the action unfold live right here! The livestream will begin on Sunday, June 25 at 9:00 AM Eastern / 6:00 AM Pacific.

What makes Pikes Peak so special? Well, for starters, drivers have to navigate through a challenging 12.4-mile rally stage, which features a staggering 156 turns. Missing any of these turns can have serious consequences, as they can lead to dangerous drops down the side of the mountain. But that’s not all. Over the course of the climb, drivers will ascend almost one mile in elevation. The race starts at 9,390 feet and finishes at an impressive 14,115 feet. This means that they can encounter drastically different weather conditions throughout the course. Additionally, tuning a high-performance engine to handle such a significant change in elevation poses a unique challenge for the drivers.

Similar to the famous Nurburgring, Pikes Peak has become a coveted trophy for automakers aiming to set record times. In 2022, Porsche achieved a production-car record with a stock 911 Turbo S completing the climb in an impressive 9 minutes 53.5 seconds. However, there was some controversy surrounding this achievement, as it wasn’t done during the actual race. Due to unfavorable weather conditions in June, Porsche took advantage of a rule change that allowed an official run outside the racing venue. They returned in September and shattered the previous record by nearly 30 seconds.

In addition to Porsche, Lamborghini also made history at the 2022 event by setting the record for the fastest production SUV. Their Urus achieved a time of 10 minutes 32 seconds during the race, although the news was only released in August.

For the upcoming 2023 edition, several automakers are set to participate and make their mark. Acura will be showcasing various vehicles, while Alpine has a special A110 prepared for the challenge. Ford is planning to impress with their electric SuperVan 4.2, which boasts a staggering 1,400 horsepower. Additionally, all eyes will be on the Block family as Lucy competes in the Unlimited class, driving a Sierra Echo Block Edition powered by Hypercraft, in honor of Ken Block – Lucy’s husband and Lia’s father – who tragically passed away earlier this year. Speaking of Lia, she will be driving the 1,400-hp Hoonipigasus Porsche 911 in an exhibition run to pay tribute to her late father. Although Lia won’t make an official timed pass, her presence adds an emotional touch to the event.

Don’t miss out on any of the thrilling moments during the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb! The livestream will begin at 9:00 AM Eastern, with the first run expected to start half an hour later. The event will continue until 4:00 PM, and we will provide you with the complete livestream coverage.

City Document Reveals E3 2024 And 2025 Have Already Been Canceled

In recent years, independent showcases by platform leaders and standalone events from big-name studios have overshadowed E3, stealing its thunder. Furthermore, Geoff Keighley’s Summer Games Fest show now dominates the June slot that was once reserved for E3 announcements.

Opinions on E3 differ. In a podcast interview with VGC earlier this month, Keighley said, “I think E3 sort of killed itself in a way.” The absence of Microsoft and Sony, the platform overlords, from E3 has reduced the incentive for the event. Additionally, the recent rivalries and conflicts over multi-billion acquisitions have driven the competitors further apart.

It is possible that Xbox and PlayStation may never share the E3 stage again, especially given the tension between Microsoft and Sony over the Activision Blizzard fiasco. In June, Microsoft hosted its Xbox Games showcase event, followed by a dedicated show for a Starfield deep-dive. On July 11, the company will host the next ID@Xbox Showcase to reveal trailers and gameplay details of new titles. Sony and Nintendo also held their own events in June, and Keighley had his own gaming event during the same window. This does not mean that E3 is doomed, but the opportunity for E3 to regain its former glory is diminishing.

F1 Reflects on 50 Years of Safety Cars, Starting with the Porsche 914

Safety cars are an essential part of Formula One events, serving to protect track marshals and safety crews during accidents or hazardous conditions on the track. While they are a familiar sight in modern races, there is a rich history behind these safety cars, as explored in a video on the Formula One YouTube channel.

The very first official Safety Car was a Porsche 914/6, used at the Canadian Grand Prix in 1973. Since then, Formula One has employed various cars for this role, including the Lamborghini Countach at the 1981 Monaco Grand Prix. Other unlikely choices have included the Ford Escort Cosworth, Renault Clio, and Fiat Tempra. It became evident that the safety cars needed to be fast enough to maintain normal operating temperatures in the Formula One cars’ brakes, tires, and engines, which is why in 1996 Formula One entered into an agreement with Mercedes-Benz to provide the official safety cars. Mercedes-Benz and its high-performance division, AMG, have supplied a range of vehicles, such as the CLK63 AMG Black Series, SLS AMG, and Mercedes-AMG GT, to fulfill the demands of the role. This exclusivity lasted until 2021 when Aston Martin joined as a partner, sharing the responsibility of providing safety cars.

However, being a Formula One Safety Car driver encompasses more than just piloting a fast car like the Aston Martin Vantage. It requires a skilled driver like Bernd Maylander. Maylander, an accomplished race car driver in his own right, won the 1997 FIA GT and the Nurburgring 24 Hours in 2000. For the past 24 years, he has served as the primary Safety Car driver in over 212 Grand Prix events.

The Formula One Safety Cars differ significantly from their stock, road-going counterparts. They are equipped with enhanced performance and safety features to handle the demands of the track. Special lights and communication equipment, including GPS and telemetry systems, are utilized to pinpoint the location of any accidents and the leading car during races.

Even to this day, Formula One and the role of the Safety Car continue to evolve. Maylander emphasizes the importance of teamwork and the continuous learning process within the safety car team. While he cherishes the memories from his extensive tenure as the primary Safety Car driver, it is the collaborative effort of the entire team that he takes the most pride in.

Porsche, Microsoft Team Up For Special Race Livery Themed Xbox Series X

Porsche is making the most of its 75th anniversary with a series of events to commemorate its history. In addition to videos and concepts, it sponsored exhibits and art cars to showcase its heritage and direction for the future. Now Porsche has teamed up with Microsoft to produce a special edition of the Xbox Series X inspired by its cars.

Revealed during the Summer Game Fest this week, the Xbox Series X consoles wear liveries of some of the most famous Porsche racing cars in the automaker’s history. Consisting of six different designs, the liveries of several iconic Porsche 917 cars are featured, including the 917/20 “Pink Pig” from the 1971 LeMans, the “Hippie” design of the 917LH, and the red and white livery of the winning 1970 car. Other liveries include the 1998 Porsche 911 GT1 Mobil 1, several versions of the Martini and Rossi cars, and a design commemorating the Porsche 963 car racing in this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans.

There will only be 75 of the Porsche-themed special edition Xbox consoles, each featuring a wireless Xbox controller in a matching design. Where do you find one of these consoles? That’s the rub. All 75 consoles are sweepstake prizes in a competition open to US, United Kingdom, and German residents over the age of 18. The sweepstakes event opened on June 8th and runs through October 1. Participants are limited to one entry per day on the Porsche Xbox Sweepstakes website.

Those of us who are not lucky enough to win one of the Porsche-themed Xbox consoles can console ourselves with the new Forza Motorsport. Expected out in October, the game launches with over 500 realistic cars, including the 2024 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray and the Cadillac Racing V-Series.R prototype racer. Also included are new tracks and a brand-new single-player mode allowing gamers to delve into the art of car-building. Even visually impaired gamers can get in on the action with the new Blind Driving Assists and One Touch Driving for people who need help pressing multiple buttons simultaneously.
