Government to analyze whether or not headlights are too shiny

The Department for Transport (DfT) has introduced that it’ll fee an impartial report on headlight dazzle, acknowledging that “further evidence” is required on the difficulty.

The announcement got here in response to a parliament.uk petition calling for MPs to assessment laws about the brightness of automobile headlights receiving greater than 10,000 signatures.

In response, the DfT introduced the plan for the report, saying: “We know that lots of people raise concerns about headlight glare – but also that the police collision statistics don’t show any underlying road safety issue.”

Given the “lack of evidence” on the problems of dazzle and headlight brightness, the report might be used to tell “any further appropriate mitigations”.

The DfT has already moved to sort out the difficulty of headlight misalignment, having raised the difficulty on the United Nations’ professional group on car lighting.

“Proposals to amend headlamp aiming rules were agreed in April 2023, together with requirements for mandatory automatic headlamp levelling, which automatically corrects the aim of the headlamps,” added the DfT.

It mentioned that tightened guidelines on headlight beam alignment are anticipated to return into pressure in September 2027 and these “will help alleviate the number of cases where road users are dazzled”.

The announcement of the report comes simply months after the RAC known as on the DfT to “urgently” look into the difficulty of dazzle.

A survey of some 2000 motorists by the organisation discovered that 28% believed most headlights to be too shiny.

Of those that complained about brightness, 74% mentioned they had been repeatedly dazzled whereas driving and 85% mentioned they believed the issue was getting worse.

RAC security spokesperson Rod Dennis hailed the DfT’s acknowledgement of the difficulty as “a real turning point”.

“The topic has undoubtedly struck a chord with motorists up and down the country, with many people contacting us directly to call for something to be done,” he added.

  6. Opt for List to display all your notifications in a traditional vertical list.

If you value maximum privacy, the Count mode is recommended as it will only show the number of notifications you have, without revealing their specific content. To view the actual contents of your notifications, simply unlock your phone in a secure environment.

In addition to the Display as settings, you can also utilize the Show Previews option to control when notifications are accompanied by previews. You can choose to have previews appear always, only when the phone is unlocked, or never. If you want to ensure that no one can gather any information from your notifications, you can disable previews. This way, you will still be alerted to app notifications, but the actual details of the notifications will not be visible.

Mercedes-AMG CEO confirms the V8 engine is not returning in the C63 and E63

Earlier this month, there were rumors suggesting that the V8 engine would make a comeback in the C63 and E63 models. However, these rumors have been denied by an AMG engineer, calling them “pure nonsense.” Unfortunately, it has now been confirmed by the AMG CEO, Michael Schiebe, that the V8 engine will not be returning.

In an interview during the Monterey Car Week, Schiebe definitively denied the rumors and stated that the decision to downsize and electrify the engines was the right move. He mentioned that other competitors are also introducing sporty hybrid models with smaller engines, making this a strategic decision for AMG.

Mercedes-AMG C63, E63 to Revert to V8 Engines for Future Models: Sources

According to a report from Car and Driver, future models of the Mercedes-AMG C63 and E63 are slated to reintroduce V8 engines. The information comes from two independent sources who claim that these vehicles will adopt a modified version of the M177 twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine by 2026.

Senior engineers working on the project have revealed that the C-Class and E-Class will undergo minor modifications to accommodate the V8 engine. This particular version of the engine is expected to meet EU7 emissions regulations and may also feature hybrid assistance, as suggested by the sources. Toyota Corolla Pickup Truck Under Consideration: Report

According to a report from Automotive News, Toyota is considering the possibility of creating a small pickup truck based on the Corolla family of models. The idea of a Corolla-based pickup truck first emerged when an independent artist used Photoshop to create a rendering of the compact crossover as a pickup truck. Now, it seems that this concept might actually become a reality.

While the project is still in its early stages, Automotive News mentions that the appearance of the pickup truck is a work in progress. Even if the project is approved, it is not expected to go on sale until 2027. This indicates that the vehicle will likely be based on the next-generation Corolla, rather than the current model.

The potential Corolla pickup truck would be positioned below the Hilux in Toyota’s lineup and would compete with models like the Ford Maverick and Hyundai Santa Cruz. Like those trucks, it would have a unibody construction instead of a traditional ladder frame. The report suggests that the pickup would be manufactured in Mississippi, alongside the regular Corolla, while the Corolla Cross is produced in Alabama at the new factory shared with Mazda.

The Reason Why British Aircraft Carriers Have Two Islands

The British have found a clever solution to aircraft carrier design by incorporating two separate islands with independent exhaust and air intake systems. This design offers several advantages over a single large island.

One advantage is that the two smaller islands have a smaller combined footprint, which creates more space on the flight deck. This additional space allows for a full off-site construction of each unit. Another advantage is that each island can mount powerful radar systems without interference. If the radars were mounted closer together in a shared space, there would be significant interference.

However, there are some drawbacks to this design. Navigation is typically handled from the front island, while aircraft operations are carried out from the rear island. This requires heavy reliance on an intercom system for communication, as in-person communication between the two islands is not possible. Some people argue that the two islands detract from the aesthetic appeal of a carrier, but this could simply be a matter of getting used to.

The innovative approach of using two islands is currently employed in two Queen Elizabeth-class carriers: HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Prince of Wales.
