Next-generation Cupra Formentor to modify to electrical energy

The next-generation Cupra Formentor will swap to a brand new electrical platform when it arrives across the finish of the last decade – and shall be a key a part of Cupra’s growth into the US.

The coupé-crossover was launched in 2020 as the primary automobile to be designed from the beginning as a Cupra, with a variety of petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid powertrains.

It’s the Spanish agency’s hottest mannequin, with 120,000 gross sales in 2023 having marked a 23% year-on-year rise.

The present petrol-engined Formentor sits on the Volkswagen Group’s MQB platform and can obtain a midlife facelift later this yr.

Speaking at Seat SA’s annual media convention, boss Wayne Griffiths confirmed that an electrical model of the Mk2 Formentor would arrive “towards the end of the decade” – and could be one among two fashions Cupra would use to spearhead its American launch.

Griffiths additionally confirmed Cupra’s plan – first reported final yr – to develop an electrical SUV bigger than the approaching Tavascan as its second automobile supposed for the US.

Griffiths added: “[For] one of those models, in my opinion, there’s a good business case it should be built [in the US]. You need a certain volume in the States to be profitable with your project, so if you want to sell there, you have to produce in the region.”

Any US-built Cupra would possible be produced at an current Volkswagen plant.

Griffiths stated Cupra would make the choice which of the 2 vehicles could be US constructed nearer to the time however strongly hinted that his desire could be for the Mk2 Formentor to be produced on the agency’s dwelling plant in Martorell, Spain.

2025 Genesis GV90: Everything We Know So Far

An electric flag bearer arrives as part of the 2025 model year, proudly waving the Genesis flag. This flagship model is a new electric SUV called the 2025 Genesis GV90. The GV90 will be the new crown jewel of the electric SUV market, making other luxury three-row SUVs quake in their proverbial shoes. Are we ready for Genesis to take over the electric SUV market? Ready or not, here comes the GV90.

The new GV90 electric SUV builds on the design language of the G90 sedan, adding more size and some electric elements to make this big and impressive SUV stylish and elegant. Although a modern EV in every way, this Genesis EV delivers the sophisticated build and admirable qualities we love about this brand. Could we see this new lavish flag bearer push other luxury EVs aside? The nearly $100,000 starting price doesn’t suggest affordability, but compared with other top-end luxury electric SUVs, it certainly could be.

New Flagship Styling For The GV90 EV

The 2025 Genesis GV90 introduces itself with a massive triangle-shaped set of LED lights to replace the grille found in gas-powered Genesis models. This is the perfect introduction for the new flagship SUV. Smooth body panels, a few intricate creases, and amazing lighting elements provide excellent styling in an SUV powered by electric motors.

This electric flagship SUV was teased in 2021 when Genesis presented its vision for a sustainable future. This vision included a large SUV that is now known as the new GV90. At the time, the expected front look includes a set of two-bar lighting elements, but some experts expect new styling elements in this flagship SUV that will trickle down to other electric SUVs and cars over the next few years.

How Do You Get Into the GV90 EV?

Genesis is pulling out all the stops with this new electric three-row SUV. Some experts suggest this new SUV could have a set of rear-hinged rear doors and no B-pillar. This setup is called suicide doors, and it offers a large opening to ensure passengers can easily enter the SUV and make their way to the rearmost seats as needed. The electric powertrain of the new Genesis SUV allows for a flat floor in the cabin, which increases the passenger room and comfort offered.

Power, Performance, and Platform

Almost all the Korean electric vehicles in the market utilize the E-GMP platform. Kia, Hyundai, and Genesis are all part of the Hyundai Motor Group, which enables this shared platform to be useful. The new Genesis GV90 could be the first electric SUV from this automotive family to ride on the next generation of this platform (called IMA for Integrated Modular Architecture), making it a trendsetter for other models to follow. Even if this new platform isn’t a reality for the GV90, this three-row electric luxury SUV should be the most powerful SUV from the brand.

How Many Electric Motors?

We expect the new 2025 Genesis GV90 to utilize the same powertrain setup as the smaller Electrified GV70. The GV90 could have a larger battery pack, ensuring it offers more power and performance on the road. The Electrified GV70 has nearly 500 horsepower from the two electric motors that allow this SUV to enjoy an AWD system. If the GV90 has the same 87.2-kWh battery pack as the Electrified G80, it should offer up to 250 miles of driving range. That won’t be enough in 2025, which is why we think this new SUV will have a much larger battery pack.

Where Does The 2025 Genesis GV90 Fit In The Market?

Genesis is still a relatively new name in the luxury vehicle world, but it’s captured the attention of many consumers at every turn. The G70 arrived and won several awards as a compact luxury sedan, proving new names can bring the goods as well as the older brands. The new GV90 should hit the market and go head-to-head with the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV and any other three-row luxury SUVs that arrive. It should be interesting to see how well the new GV90 stacks up against the EQS SUV when Genesis releases more data about its new flagship electric SUV.

Could Genesis Add More To The Ride?

The new GV90 will be the fourth and largest EV from this luxury brand. As a large, midsize luxury crossover SUV, this vehicle should include features that will ensure a smooth and comfortable ride on any road. We expect the new GV90 to add a set of air springs and electronically controlled dampers to provide that smooth ride. As we get closer to the release date for this new electrified SUV, we could see additional features to enable the GV90 to drive smoothly and quickly around corners, adding a bit of fun to the mix.

Samsung’s Influence In The Infotainment System

2023 Genesis Electrified interior
Genesis

Samsung is a well-respected name in the technology sector, providing various gadgets and tech items around the world. Partnering with Genesis makes perfect sense for both companies. A Samsung OLED display could be exactly what gives the GV90’s dashboard that finished and futuristic appeal. We expect Genesis to find a way to take one step further than its luxury rivals with more advanced tech. A pairing with Samsung is part of that step, but could this new flagship SUV also include the largest screens we’ve seen in an electric SUV? We’ll have to wait and find out.

Speculating The Cabin Details

The new Genesis GV90 is expected to be part of the 2025 model year lineup. Only recently have spy shots been shown of this SUV out on the roads wearing thick testing garb. This means we can only speculate on what the cabin area will offer, but if previous Genesis models are any indication, this flagship SUV will be filled with the most luxurious features and offer a range of sustainable materials for those looking for a luxury SUV that’s eco-friendly.

2025 Genesis GV90 Expected Price And Arrival Date

2023 Genesis Electrified GV70 SILVER
Genesis

The Genesis GV90 was originally expected to be part of the 2024 model year, but the development of this flagship electric SUV has hit delays, as often occurs, and it should arrive as part of the new 2025 model year instead. This could be perfect timing for the GV90 because Genesis is transitioning to only electric vehicles starting with the 2025 model year.

Adding the new platform could make this transition complete and give the new electric flagship the desired build, driving range, and opulence to take on the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV. Once the new GV90 arrives, other Genesis EVs will also utilize the new IMA platform.

How Much Should The Genesis GV90 Cost?

The new GV90 lineup should skip over the entry-level trims and only bring the Advanced and Prestige trims to the mix. This new luxury SUV should have a starting price of nearly $100,000, but that price will likely be competitive with other flagship electric SUVs. Both trims should come comprehensively equipped with the features, tech, safety, and driving systems desired. Hopefully, the new Genesis GV90 will have more success than the G90 sedan. To date, the G90 hasn’t been a volume model, but the new GV90 could be a volume model and a high-margin electric SUV for this fledgling luxury brand.

Aston Martin Announces New Model For August 18 Debut At Pebble Beach

Aston Martin is set to debut a new model at this year’s Monterey Car Week, along with showcasing the DBX707, DB12, and other models. While the automaker is keeping details under wraps, it’s being billed as a “world-first debut” for this yet-to-be-revealed model, coinciding with the brand’s 110th anniversary.

Speculations are running rampant as to what the mystery car could be, but Aston Martin’s first electric vehicle, which is still a couple of years away, is not expected to be revealed at this event.

Upcoming Aston Martin EV Will Use Pirelli Cyber Tires

Aston Martin has announced that it will be launching four electric vehicles (EVs) in the next few years, with the first one expected to arrive in 2025. During a panel discussion at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, Aston Martin’s Chief Technical Officer, Roberto Fedeli, revealed that the first electric model will be equipped with Pirelli’s Cyber Tire system.

The Cyber Tires developed by Pirelli have a built-in sensor that communicates with the vehicle’s onboard computers. This sensor provides various information such as the tire type (summer or winter), recommended pressure, load index, and speed rating. Moreover, the system is capable of monitoring tire wear, temperature, grip, slip details, and load. Depending on how the automaker utilizes this technology, the vehicle can make adjustments to suspension settings, electronic stability control parameters, braking assist, and more.

Cyber Tire explanation

Pirelli highlights that the Cyber Tire system provides the vehicle with additional data that enhances safety while driving.

The McLaren Artura, a production vehicle, was among the first to adopt Pirelli’s Cyber Tires for its bespoke P Zero, P Zero Corsa, and P Zero Winter rubber tires. The Lotus Evija is another vehicle that utilizes this technology.

Pirelli is also working on a version of Cyber Tires that can network with other vehicles and high-tech infrastructure. The idea behind this development is to enable the sharing of road surface information among vehicles.

Back in June 2023, Aston Martin announced a long-term partnership with Lucid for the powertrain and battery components of its upcoming EVs. The British automaker’s chairman, Lawrence Stroll, stated that Aston Martin engineers would customize these components for their vehicles instead of using them in their stock form. As part of this partnership, Lucid acquired a 3.7% share in Aston Martin.

Aston Martin has previously indicated that the Vantage model will eventually switch to an electric powertrain. However, it is unclear whether this particular EV expected to debut in 2025 will be the electrified Vantage. Aston Martin has plans to electrify its entire lineup to some degree by 2030, with half of the models being all-electric vehicles.

  • The Magnite prices start on par with the Exter, while the Citroen C3 is pricier by Rs 16,000. But the priciest entry point here is for the Renault Kiger.

  • Save for the Renault and Nissan SUVs, all other models here get a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with a 5-speed MT.

  • The Renault-Nissan duo comes with a 1-litre naturally aspirated petrol unit with a 5-speed MT. They also offer a 1-litre turbo-petrol unit with the same manual gearbox option.

Citroen C3 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine

  • The Citroen C3 is the only car here to get an optional 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine with a 6-speed MT.

  • The Exter, Punch and Ignis all offer a 5-speed AMT, as does the Renault Kiger with its 1-litre petrol engine. Citroen does not offer an automatic transmission with the C3, neither does Nissan with the Magnite’s 1-litre engine. The turbo-petrol engines of the Renault-Nissan SUVs come with the choice of a CVT auto.

The Citroen C3 is not as well-equipped as those three but still offers the benefit of a larger cabin and a punchy turbo-petrol engine. Meanwhile, the Renault Kiger and Nissan Magnite subcompact SUVs are overall more expensive for their bigger proportions and more features at the top end.

– The Exter’s starting price is tied with that of its closest rival, the [Tata Punch](https://www.cardekho.com/tata/punch), at Rs 6 lakh, while the Maruti Ignis undercuts them both by around Rs 16,000.
– The Magnite prices start on par with the Exter, while the [Citroen C3](https://www.cardekho.com/citroen/c3) is pricier by Rs 16,000. But the priciest entry point here is for the Renault Kiger.
– Save for the Renault and Nissan SUVs, all other models here get a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with a 5-speed MT.
– The Renault-Nissan duo comes with a 1-litre naturally aspirated petrol unit with a 5-speed MT. They also offer a 1-litre turbo-petrol unit with the same manual gearbox option.

– The Citroen C3 is the only car here to get an optional 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine with a 6-speed MT.
– Hyundai Exter is the only model here to offer a CNG powertrain (until the Punch CNG arrives).
– The top-spec Exter is pricier than the top-spec Punch by Rs 50,000 but also offers more features like a sunroof and dual-camera dashcam.

[Nissan Magnite](https://stimg2.cardekho.com/images/roadTestimages/816×544/20201120_181940/699/nissan0.jpg)

– The [Nissan Magnite](https://www.cardekho.com/nissan/magnite)’s entry-level turbo variant is more affordable than the top-spec Exter, while offering more space thanks to its bigger size, same as the Kiger. But if its performance you’re prioritising, you can consider the top-spec C3 turbo-petrol option instead.
– All models in this comparison can be had with an optional dual-tone paint option, majorly limited to their higher-spec variants. The Tata Punch also comes with a Camo edition with multiple variants for a distinctive exterior finish, at a small premium.

– The Exter’s entry-level automatic variant is pricier than that of the Punch, while the [Maruti Ignis](https://www.cardekho.com/carmodels/Maruti/Maruti_Ignis)’s entry-level automatic undercuts it by almost a lakh rupees. The Nissan Magnite has the most expensive entry-level automatic option here at Rs 10 lakh.
– Although the Exter and Punch’s AMT variants are priced closely to one another, it’s the latter’s variants that are relatively more affordable.
– The Exter, Punch and Ignis all offer a 5-speed AMT, as does the [Renault Kiger](https://www.cardekho.com/renault/kiger) with its 1-litre petrol engine. Citroen does not offer an automatic transmission with the C3, neither does Nissan with the Magnite’s 1-litre engine. The turbo-petrol engines of the Renault-Nissan SUVs come with the choice of a CVT auto.
– The Hyundai Exter’s top-spec SX (O) Connect AMT is the costliest of the lot (Rs 10 lakh) when the AMT models are considered. It is also the only one to offer features like paddle shifters and the aforementioned sunroof and dashcam.

[Renault Kiger](https://stimg2.cardekho.com/images/roadTestimages/816×544/20210222_094103/714/renault0.jpg)

Overall, the better-equipped Exter is pricier than the Punch, while the aged Ignis is the most affordable in every comparison.
