Vauxhall continues to hold its position as the leading e-LCV manufacturer in the UK, according to the latest figures released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).

The Vivaro Electric remains the top choice for buyers, with a total of 3,211 units sold this year, making it the best-selling e-LCV in the country. In fact, nearly one-third (31.83%) of all electric vans sold in the UK so far in 2023 have been Vauxhall vehicles.

James Taylor, the Managing Director of Vauxhall, expressed his satisfaction with the Vivaro Electric’s success in the market, highlighting its popularity among both fleet and private buyers who are transitioning to electric vehicles. As the leading e-LCV manufacturer in the UK, Vauxhall is committed to driving the electrification trend forward.

Unlike many other manufacturers, Vauxhall offers a fully electric van option across its entire lineup, making it an attractive choice for businesses and fleets. As part of its commitment to sustainable mobility, Vauxhall aims to become an all-electric manufacturer by 2028, which is seven years ahead of the UK Government’s deadline.

Vauxhall’s Corsa range continues to perform strongly in terms of sales in the UK, taking the top spot in two segments, as per the latest figures released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).

In August, the Corsa was the best-selling B-Hatch, and it has maintained this position for the year so far. It is also the second best-selling car overall in the UK for this year, with a total of 25,692 units sold. The Corsa Electric is leading the way as the best-selling Small Electric Car (Electric B-Hatch) in 2023, with 2,220 units sold year-to-date.

Similarly, the Mokka Electric continues to dominate as the best-selling Small Electric SUV (Electric B-SUV) so far this year, with a total of 6,062 units sold.

Vauxhall has set a goal to transition into an all-electric brand by 2028, which is seven years ahead of the UK Government’s deadline.

Commenting on this success, James Taylor, Managing Director of Vauxhall, said, “It is exciting to see the Corsa continue to excel in the sales charts, both in its electric and petrol variants. The popularity of the Corsa Electric reflects our dedication to leading the UK’s transition to electrification.”

The new Corsa features Vauxhall’s striking Vizor front end design across its entire range, along with various enhancements in styling and technology. The fully electric models offer Vauxhall’s next-generation 51kWh battery, providing a range of up to 246 miles (WLTP). Orders for the new Corsa are now open, starting at £19,625, with first deliveries expected in Q4 2023.

VAUXHALL CELEBRATES LAUNCH OF ASTRA ELECTRIC WITH MURALS IN LONDON AND MANCHESTER

  • Vauxhall has commissioned two murals in London and Manchester to celebrate the launch of the new Astra Electric
  • British artist Iain Macarthur collaborated with Vauxhall to create dynamic street art inspired by the Astra Electric
  • The public can view the murals throughout August
  • Vauxhall will transition to becoming an electric-only brand starting in 2028

Vauxhall is celebrating the recent launch of the Astra Electric by showcasing two eye-catching murals in London and Manchester. Created by British artist Iain Macarthur, the murals will be on display until August 27th. They represent Vauxhall’s commitment to innovative design and artistic expression, highlighting the brand’s dedication to British design influences.

The murals, located in Shoreditch, London, and the Northern Quarter in Manchester, showcase Macarthur’s unique surrealist style and convey the vibrancy and dynamism of the Astra Electric. This design philosophy earned the Astra a prestigious Red Dot Award for Product Design earlier this year.

Iain Macarthur stated, “I wanted to capture the energy of the Astra by creating patterns that resemble electricity, flowing throughout the design in a visually striking way that aligns with Vauxhall’s bold and pure design language. Partnering with Vauxhall was a pleasure, as they allowed me creative freedom to express my vision of what clean energy would look like.”

The murals feature scannable QR codes that the public can scan to visit www.vauxhall-mural-ar.com and experience the Astra Electric through augmented reality, offering an interactive and immersive experience of the vehicle.

By collaborating with an innovative British artist and exhibiting the murals in iconic locations in London and Manchester, Vauxhall honors its longstanding connection to British design and heritage.

The Astra Electric is equipped with Vauxhall’s next-generation 54kWh battery and a 115kW (156hp) electric motor, capable of achieving up to 258 miles of range (WLTP) on a single charge. By 2024, all Vauxhall cars and vans will have a fully-electric version, and by 2028, Vauxhall will exclusively produce electric vehicles as a brand.

James Taylor, Managing Director of Vauxhall, commented, “This mural celebrates not only the launch of the exciting Astra Electric but also our Bold and Pure design language, which draws inspiration from the best of British art and innovation. I am eager to see Iain’s work in person and extend my gratitude to him for contributing to something that the public can enjoy in London and Manchester.”

VAUXHALL LAUNCHES NEW INITIATIVE TO BOOST EV CHARGING INFRASTRUCTURE AS INVESTIGATION REVEALS MORE THAN 70% OF UK COUNCILS HAVE NO CHARGING STRATEGY FOR RESIDENTIAL STREETS

  • Vauxhall ‘Electric Streets of Britain’ initiative launched after exclusive data reveals 71.6% of UK councils have no published strategy for residential on-street charging
  • 40% of British households do not have a driveway, leaving millions of potential EV owners unable to charge – this rises to over 60% in urban areas1
  • Study also reveals London has more than twice the number of residential on-street charge points of all other regions of the UK combined
  • UK database launched for residents to register interest in having charge points installed, so councils and charging operators can focus investment where demand exists today
  • ‘Enablement Fund’ established by Vauxhall to help improve Local Authority understanding of residential on-street charging needs
  • Three specialist on-street charging operators – char.gy, Connected Kerb and SureCharge – have signed up to access the programme, to elevate local authority understanding of the topic
  • From 2024, every model in the Vauxhall line up will be available with a fully electric version, and from 2028 Vauxhall will only offer all-electric cars and vans
  • To find out more, or register your street, visit http://electricstreets.co.uk/

Vauxhall has joined forces with leading charge point operators to address the findings of an exclusive investigation revealing that over 70% of UK councils do not have a published strategy for residential on-street charging for electric vehicles (EVs). This leaves millions of potential EV drivers without access to charging facilities.

The investigation, carried out through a Freedom of Information application to 414 councils and local authorities across the UK, also found that 69% of local authorities have yet to install any on-street chargers.

Data provided by 289 councils up to July 1st showed that only 14,188 new charge points are planned for installation this year, which is insufficient to meet the government’s target of 300,000 charge points by the end of 2030.

In response, Vauxhall has launched the ‘Electric Streets of Britain’ initiative to ensure that drivers without driveways are not left behind in the transition to electric mobility. This initiative is in line with Vauxhall’s commitment to offer a fully electric version of every car and van model in its line-up from 2024, and to sell only electric vehicles in the UK by 2028.

Working with charge point operators char.gy, Connected Kerb, and SureCharge, Vauxhall has established an ‘Enablement Fund’ to help local authorities understand the challenges and available solutions for on-street charging. The aim is to prepare for the government’s planned ban on the sale of new combustion engine cars in 2030.

Vauxhall has also created a national database, accessible at http://electricstreets.co.uk/, where the public can register their charging needs. This will enable councils to better understand the demand for on-street charging from existing and potential EV drivers.

On-street charging is crucial for EV adoption, as 80% of all EV charging currently takes place at home.2 However, approximately 40% of UK households do not have a driveway or off-street parking, rising to 60% in urban areas. On-street charging solutions include lamp post chargers, which can be installed and operational within 30 minutes, and pavement-mounted bollards.

London currently has 12,708 residential on-street charge points installed, with plans to install an additional 6,397 over the next year. This means that London will soon have a total of 19,105 on-street charge points, more than double the number available in all other UK regions combined.

Of the councils that responded to the investigation, 45% confirmed that they have no plans to install residential on-street chargers this year.

James Taylor, Managing Director of Vauxhall, emphasizes the importance of access to charging points near homes for the successful transition to electric vehicles in the UK. He states, “We want to galvanize the needs and interests of everyone, from the public, to the councils and the charging operators to make sure that anyone without a driveway is part of that journey. We want to help educate and inform the decision-makers and enable the installation of more chargers, more quickly.”

On-street charging solutions benefit not only private motorists but also businesses. About 40% of company-owned electric vans are charged at home by employees, so the availability of on-street charge points supports businesses in transitioning to electric by providing convenient charging options for van drivers while attending residential jobs.3

Vauxhall is already a popular choice for electric cars and vans, and by 2024, every model in its lineup will have a fully electric version. From 2028, Vauxhall will exclusively offer all-electric cars and vans. Additionally, Vauxhall’s Ellesmere Port plant is set to become the first manufacturing site within the Stellantis group dedicated to producing electric vehicles.

Vauxhall’s Freedom of Information research took place between May – July 2023, encompassing 414 councils across the United Kingdom.

VAUXHALL EXPERIMENTAL GIVES CLEAR VISION OF FUTURE OF THE BRAND

  • Progressive British: Vauxhall Experimental embodies three brand pillars
  • Bold and Pure: Next chapter of Vauxhall design philosophy with 4D Vauxhall Vizor
  • Painting with light: Electrochromic fabrics immerse occupants in atmospheric light

Vauxhall has unveiled its stunning new concept car, the Vauxhall Experimental, which provides a glimpse into the future of the brand. With a modern exterior design, this concept car showcases where Vauxhall is headed in the coming years.

Notable features of the Vauxhall Experimental include cutting-edge aero-efficiency technologies, a spacious and illuminated interior with lightweight seats, and an advanced head-up display. The battery-electric crossover will make its world premiere at the IAA Mobility event in Munich in September 2023, where it will introduce Vauxhall’s vision for sustainable individual mobility to a new audience.

According to Vauxhall Managing Director James Taylor, “The Vauxhall Experimental provides a glimpse of upcoming models and technologies, the future design, and a new era for the brand. This concept car represents Vauxhall’s pioneering spirit.” Mark Adams, Vice President Design, adds, “Our new Vauxhall Experimental presents an extreme interpretation of our Bold and Pure design philosophy. It embodies our vision for the future, and many elements of its design will be visible in future production vehicles. The exterior design combines optimized aerodynamics with a stunning silhouette, while the interior offers an immersive and emotional user experience.”

The sleek silhouette of the Vauxhall Experimental stands out with its absence of chrome. Instead, the concept car features exterior lighting and bold contrasting graphics that add personality and sophistication to its already impressive proportions. The battery-electric crossover is based on a state-of-the-art Stellantis BEV platform and is equipped with electric all-wheel drive. The design showcases a bold and pure aesthetic with clean surfacing and sharp, muscular wheel-arch blisters that emphasize its confident stance. Traditional wing mirrors have been replaced with fully integrated 180-degree cameras on the C-pillars.

At the front, the illuminated Vauxhall Griffin sits proudly at the center of the signature Vauxhall Compass, which represents the guiding element of Vauxhall’s design philosophy. The elongated wing signature lighting on the horizontal axis and the illuminated center crease add further drama to the front of the vehicle. Similar lighting elements are repeated at the rear, with the distinctive compass signature braking light created using edge lighting technology and sophisticated glass transparency. The rear also features bold Vauxhall lettering instead of the Griffin logo. Surrounding the front compass is the next generation 4D Vauxhall Vizor, which includes advanced sight technologies such as sensors, lidar, radar, and camera systems.

The Vauxhall Experimental incorporates clever aero solutions and offers a spacious interior through its “space detox” approach. Aero-flaps at the front and rear, as well as a rear end diffuser, enhance aerodynamic efficiency. The tires, developed in cooperation with Goodyear, are made from recycled rubber and sit on 3-zone Ronal wheels with an active feature that increases aerodynamic efficiency. Inside the concept car, the steering wheel folds away seamlessly when not in use, thanks to the steer-by-wire system that eliminates mechanical steering components. Lightweight adaptive seats with 3D mesh-technology fabrics contribute to the liberation of space inside the vehicle.

The Vauxhall Experimental also offers the Pure Experience and Pure Pad, providing a pleasurable driving experience. The slim Tech Bridge replaces conventional screens and uses augmented projection technology supported by artificial intelligence and natural voice control. The floating, transparent Pure Pad allows drivers to configure controls according to their preferences, providing instant access to frequently used features.

In addition to embodying Vauxhall’s brand pillars of Detox, Progressive British, Green Technology, and Innovation, the Vauxhall Experimental takes a step further by expressing the brand’s emotional approach to sustainable mobility. Electrochromic fabrics create an atmospheric light within the vehicle, enhancing the well-being of occupants. These reactive fabrics also have functional attributes, such as displaying warnings when a vehicle enters the blind spot, providing additional safety for occupants and other road users.

The Vauxhall Experimental continues the tradition of concept cars, which started in 1966 with the XVR Concept. It showcases a clear vision for the brand’s future.

One-In-Four Electric Vans Sold in the UK So Far This Year is a Vauxhall Vivaro Electric

  • Vauxhall Vivaro Electric accounts for more than 25% of all electric vans sold in the UK this year
  • Vivaro Electric remains the country’s top-selling electric light commercial vehicle (e-LCV), with 575 registered in July and 2,964 year-to-date
  • Vauxhall is the leading e-LCV manufacturer in the UK, representing almost a third of all electric van sales so far in 2023
  • Vauxhall is one of the few manufacturers in the UK offering a fully electric van across its entire lineup

According to the latest new van registration figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), over 25% of electric vans sold in the UK this year have been Vauxhall Vivaro Electric.

The registration figures for July show that the Vivaro Electric holds a 26.6% share of electric LCV registrations in 2023, maintaining its position as the best-selling e-LCV in the UK. In July, 575 Vivaro Electric vans were sold, bringing the year-to-date total to 2,964.

Vauxhall continues to be the top-selling e-LCV manufacturer in the UK, accounting for 32.9% of the market so far this year. This means that nearly one in three electric vans sold in 2023 has been a Vauxhall.

Vauxhall stands out as one of the few manufacturers in the UK offering a fully electric van across its range of models. By 2028, Vauxhall aims to become an exclusively electric manufacturer, which is seven years ahead of the UK Government’s deadline.

James Taylor, Managing Director of Vauxhall, commented: “It’s a significant achievement that over a quarter of electric vans sold in the UK this year are Vivaro Electric. This highlights the model’s versatility and ongoing popularity among private buyers and businesses of all sizes looking to transition to electric fleets.”

The Vivaro Electric has been recognized with several awards, including ‘Medium Van of the Year’ at the What Van? Awards 2022 and ‘Best Medium Electric Van’ at the Driving Electric Awards 2022. It was also crowned ‘International Van of the Year 2021’. The van offers great flexibility, with options for a 50kWh or a 75kWh battery and a WLTP range of up to 205 miles on a single charge. It can carry a maximum payload of up to 1,226kg.

Vauxhall Electric Models Lead Sales in Three Segments, According to SMMT New Car Sales Figures

  • Three Vauxhall electric passenger car models become best-sellers in their segments for July

  • The Vivaro Electric Life is the top-selling electric MPV in the UK so far this year
  • Vauxhall plans to become an electric-only manufacturer by 2028, ahead of the UK Government deadline

Recent data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) reveals that Vauxhall’s electric car range continues to perform well in the UK market. In July, Vauxhall’s electric models topped the sales charts in three segments.

The Corsa Electric was the best-selling Small Electric Car (Electric B-Hatch) in July and is leading the segment for the year, with 2,141 units sold so far. Similarly, the Mokka Electric emerged as the best-selling model in the Small Electric SUV (Electric B-SUV) category for both July and the year, with 5,573 units sold to date.

Furthermore, the Vivaro Electric Life has achieved the status of being the UK’s best-selling electric MPV, with 1,175 units registered this year.

Aside from the electric models, the Corsa also secured the top spot in the B-Hatch category in July and is the second best-selling car overall in the UK market so far this year, with 23,751 units sold.

Vauxhall has set ambitious goals to become an all-electric brand by 2028, which is seven years earlier than the UK Government’s deadline.

James Taylor, the Managing Director of Vauxhall, expressed his excitement about the success of the electric models, emphasizing that Vauxhall is leading the way in facilitating Britain’s transition to electric vehicles.

FIRST GLIMPSE OF STUNNING NEW VAUXHALL EXPERIMENTAL

  • Forward looking: Vauxhall Experimental gives an insight into the future of the brand
  • Attention to detail: Flush body surfacing, aero-efficiency and resource-conserving

After revealing the name of its upcoming concept car as the Vauxhall Experimental just last week, the British brand has now offered a tantalizing preview of the design study by releasing first images of the vehicle. The photographs reveal the extreme precision and high attention to detail of the Vauxhall Experimental, which will show the future of the Vauxhall brand with its more technical and extreme interpretation of the Bold and Pure design philosophy.

“The Vauxhall Experimental marks the start of a new chapter for our brand. It was designed to provide a tangible vision of where the Vauxhall brand is heading. We will be revealing more details soon – so stay tuned,” said Mark Adams, Vice-President, Design, Vauxhall.

One of the most eye-catching features teased by the images is the further development of the Compass, the guiding element of Vauxhall’s design philosophy. The illuminated Vauxhall Griffin sits confidently at the center of the compass in a new iteration of the Vauxhall Vizor, the brand’s characteristic front fascia and technology hub. It is flanked by the elongated wing signature lighting on the horizontal axis while the illuminated center crease adds further drama. A distinctive red-light graphic on flush body surfacing, devoid of unnecessary shut lines, suggests the repetition of the compass at the rear of the Vauxhall Experimental.

Elsewhere, aerodynamic efficiency has long been a hallmark of Vauxhall passenger cars and the vane-like construction of the eye-catching wheels indicate that the Vauxhall Experimental will also share this attribute. The futuristic cues are continued on the interior with the profiled seat structure hinting at a sustainable, resource-conserving approach to the ergonomic seats that are typical for Vauxhall vehicles.

The Vauxhall Experimental will celebrate its world premiere at this year’s IAA Mobility in Munich (5 to 10 September 2023).
