PEUGEOT LAUNCHES OPERATION #CAMOCATCH AHEAD OF NEW PEUGEOT 3008 REVEAL

Ahead of the reveal of the new PEUGEOT 3008 in September 2023, PEUGEOT is launching an operation across social media to allow budding designers to choose the camouflage for the new model.

Camouflaged prototypes of the new PEUGEOT 3008 will be on the roads of Europe this summer, and PEUGEOT’s #CamoCatch Operation opens the door for the public to have their say on how the long-awaited model will look ahead of launch.

Camouflaging has become widespread practice across the automotive industry in the early stages of new product development, concealing the vehicle’s bodywork ahead of the final unveiling. By opening this important design phase to the public, PEUGEOT is embedding its design expertise into every detail of the development process.

The PEUGEOT designers have created 10 new, high impact and innovative camouflage patterns, which can conceal the details of the new PEUGEOT 3008’s exterior, whilst demonstrating the expertise of PEUGEOT’s graphic design team.

PEUGEOT launched the initiative earlier today (15 May), with the first phase running until 2 June. PEUGEOT’s social media channels will invite the public to choose their favourite camouflage(s) from among the 10 options. Votes will be open across all of PEUGEOT’s UK social media channels: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn.

The six camouflage designs that receive the most votes will be produced in June and used to cover the new PEUGEOT 3008 models that will be taking part in the open road testing this summer.

The new PEUGEOT 3008 camouflaged cars will take to the road between 1 July and 15 August. Anyone who sees the new model is invited to take a photo and post the picture on the PEUGEOT social media accounts with the hashtag #CamoCatch.

A selection of participants who have taken part will be invited to an exclusive drive of the car early in 2024.

PEUGEOT has been implementing a strategy of collaboration and partnership with young designer artists, such as J. Demsky and Emeric Tchatchoua, since the beginning of 2023.

LESS THAN 25% OF UK DRIVERS SAY THEY HAVE A GOOD UNDERSTANDING OF ELECTRIC VEHICLES

Less than a quarter of UK drivers say they have a good understanding of electric vehicles, according to new research conducted by PEUGEOT UK.

In a recent survey of 2,000 UK motorists*, just 23% rate their understanding of electric vehicles as good or excellent, while 38% believe that their knowledge is poor or very poor. This is despite the fact that there are now almost 1.1 million electrified vehicles on UK roads** as the country moves towards the 2030 ban on the sale of new petrol and diesel cars.

PEUGEOT UK’s latest research reveals significant gaps in the public’s understanding of electric vehicles, with less than half being aware that battery electric vehicles emit zero tailpipe emissions. A surprising 12% also believe that plug-in hybrid cars and electric cars are exactly the same type of vehicle.

Less than a third of respondents know that electric models such as the new PEUGEOT e-2008 can be charged from 0-80% in just 30 minutes from a 100kW rapid charger.

There is also misunderstanding around the electric vehicle charging network, with 70% of respondents saying they find the way different providers operate to be confusing.

The same percentage also finds the language surrounding electric vehicle power, battery capacity and efficiency difficult to understand, with only 31% aware that Kilowatt Hours (kWh) is the unit used to measure battery capacity in EVs.

In contrast, when asked which car powertrain they have the best understanding of, 67% cited petrol and diesel, compared to just 7% who chose electric powertrains.

Generation gap

The research also reveals that young people are more likely to think they have a strong understanding of electric vehicles, with 58% of 18-24-year-olds rating their knowledge as good or excellent. Meanwhile, half of those over 65 rate their understanding of electric vehicles as poor or very poor.

Nearly half (46%) of 18-24-year-olds correctly selected ‘Miles per kWh’ as the unit commonly used to measure efficiency in electric vehicles, compared to just 20% of over 65s.

When it comes to charging, 46% of 18-24-year-olds correctly stated that an electric car can be charged to 80% in as little as half an hour, compared to 23% of over 65s. And 50% of 18-24-year-olds said it was true that in some UK cities, electric vehicle drivers do not have to pay for parking when charging, compared to 28% of over 65s.

Young people’s knowledge extends to other types of electric vehicles too, with 64% of 18-24-year-olds aware that electric vans are eligible for a UK government grant – a fact known by just 26% of those over 65.

Drivers’ perceived knowledge of electric vehicles also varies across the country. An impressive 10% of Londoners rate their understanding of electric vehicles as excellent – the highest of any region – whereas people in the North East claim to be least knowledgeable about electric vehicles, with 53% saying their understanding is poor or very poor.

Almost four out of five Londoners (79%) are familiar with the term ‘Ultra Low Emission Zone’ (ULEZ), with the capital’s own ULEZ set to expand across all boroughs from 29 August. Less than half (45%) of people from the North East are familiar with the term.

To help drivers understand the capabilities of electric vehicles, PEUGEOT UK has created a Range Calculator that allows drivers to predict how far their electric PEUGEOT can travel on a single charge, in a variety of conditions.

Adam Wood, Managing Director, PEUGEOT UK, said: “Our research reveals there are still gaps in the public’s understanding of electric vehicles, with many motorists unaware that EVs such as the new PEUGEOT e-2008 offer zero tailpipe emissions and can be charged to 80% in just thirty minutes. PEUGEOT is committed to helping customers understand the benefits of going electric, so they can find the model that’s right for them.”

By 2025, PEUGEOT will have a 100% electric version available across its entire model range, and in 2030 will sell only electric vehicles in the UK.

PEUGEOT REVEALS NEW 2008 WITH UPDATED DESIGN AND NEW ELECTRIFIED POWERTRAINS

PEUGEOT has revealed the new 2008, with a more assertive SUV design, enhanced technology and new electrified powertrains.

Launched at the end of 2019 and with nearly 700,000 units produced, the PEUGEOT 2008 has consistently been among the top three best-selling B-segment SUVs in Europe, topping the list in 2021. The success of this model is attributed particularly to the e-2008, which accounted for 17.4% of European 2008 sales in 2022.

The new 2008 features an updated, more assertive design, an enhanced i-Cockpit® and a new electric powertrain for the new e-2008 that offers up to 252 miles of range (WLTP). It will be open for orders in the summer with a choice of three trim levels – Active, Allure and GT.

Design

The new 2008 features an updated design which reflects its move upmarket and strengthens its SUV status. The model has a new, wider front end incorporating the new PEUGEOT shield and includes a specific lateral pattern that connects to the headlamps. On Active versions, the front end is enhanced with a horizontal pattern in gloss black, while on Allure and GT versions, the front end has a vertical pattern in the same colour as the bodywork.

The front of the new 2008 also adopts the latest PEUGEOT light signature first seen on the new 508 and 508 SW, which is characterised by three vertical light claws integrated into the gloss black inserts on the bumper. GT versions feature exclusive full LED headlamps made up of three light modules. This distinguishes the GT versions from the rest of the range by giving them an exclusive front-end signature.

At the rear, the new 2008’s distinctive three-claw light signature has also been redesigned. The LED rear lights are made up of three superimposed horizontal double slats, which help to visually widen the car’s stance. The reversing lights and indicators are also LEDs.

The front, side and rear badges of the new 2008 have been given a new typeface and are finished in a new Basalt Grey colour, while the new e-2008 has an “E” badge in Dichroic Blue and White. At the rear, the PEUGEOT monogram runs across the entire width of the boot lid.

The new 2008 is available with alloy wheels ranging from 16-18 inches, with a disruptive design in line with those introduced on the new PEUGEOT 408. Customers have a choice of six body colours: Selenium Grey, Cumulus Grey, Okenite White, Nera Black, Elixir Red and Vertigo Blue. All versions feature gloss black door mirrors, while GT models feature a black bi-tone roof.

PEUGEOT i-Cockpit®

PEUGEOT’s innovative i-Cockpit® has been updated for the new 2008, with a new design for the 10-inch digital instrument cluster, which features a 3D display on GT versions. The colour of the display, the order and the layout of the information can be fully adjusted to suit the driver’s preferences.

All new 2008 models now come with a 10-inch central touchscreen as standard. Under the central screen, the piano keys allow quick access to key functions.

Finally, the new 2008’s compact steering wheel displays the new PEUGEOT logo in its centre and houses controls for the infotainment system, as well as voice control. On GT models, steering wheels also feature a new GT badge on the lower part of its rim.

The interior of the new 2008 also benefits from new seat fabrics throughout, including new Alcantara® upholstery available as an option on GT versions.

Technology

On Allure trims and above, the new 2008 is available with PEUGEOT’s i-Connect® infotainment system, which offers full connectivity through wireless phone mirroring (Apple CarPlay™/Android Auto). The system can be controlled via the central 10-inch high-definition touchscreen or via natural voice recognition, activated by saying “Ok PEUGEOT.”

PEUGEOT i-Connect®  Advanced is available as an option across the range, which adds a high-performance TomTom® connected navigation system with over-the-air updates.

For easier and safer driving, the new 2008 comes with a range of driver assistance features, including Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Automatic Emergency Braking, Extended Traffic Sign Recognition, Lane Keeping Assist, Driver Attention Alert and Blind Spot Monitoring. For enhanced traction, Advanced Grip Control, together with all-season tyres, is also offered, which provides access to three additional driving modes: Sand, Mud and Snow.

Powertrains

The new 2008 will be available with a range of electric, hybrid (from 2024), and petrol powertrains, enabling each customer to choose the version that best suits their needs.

From launch, the new fully-electric PEUGEOT e-2008 benefits from a larger 54kWh battery and a new electric motor, with maximum power increasing by 18% to 156hp. The range also increases to 252 miles (WLTP mixed cycle), up from 214 miles.

Two types of onboard chargers are available on the new PEUGEOT e-2008: as standard, a single-phase 7.4kW charger and, as an option, a three-phase 11kW charger. The new e-2008 can be recharged from 0-80% in 30 minutes from a 100kW rapid charger, or 7 hours 30 minutes from a 7.4kW charger.

In 2024, the new 2008 will also be available with a new 48V HYBRID powertrain, which consists of a new-generation 136bhp 1.2-litre PureTech petrol engine, coupled with a new six-speed dual-clutch electrified gearbox that includes an electric motor. Thanks to a battery that recharges while driving, this technology offers extra torque at low engine speeds and up to 15% lower fuel consumption. In urban driving, the new 2008 equipped with the HYBRID system can operate more than 50% of the time in electric mode.

PEUGEOT will continue to offer customers a choice of advanced 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engines. The PureTech 100 is paired with a six-speed manual gearbox featuring a new gearshift knob for improved ergonomics, while the PureTech 130 can be combined with either the EAT8 eight-speed automatic gearbox or a six-speed manual gearbox.

MyPEUGEOT® app

The launch of the new 2008 coincides with the introduction of three new features to the MyPEUGEOT® app, including a virtual maintenance book which stores all invoices and keeps a record of all work carried out on the car. Journey details can also be sent to the onboard navigation system in advance via the app. Lastly, MyPEUGEOT® can now assist with journey planning for electric vehicle drivers by predicting the level of charge available when you arrive at your destination. Drivers can continue to pre-condition the cabin and to check, schedule, start or defer charging remotely via the app.

PEUGEOT AND YELLOWKORNER TEAM UP TO CHALLENGE FIVE PHOTOGRAPHERS TO DEFINE ALLURE

PEUGEOT has partnered with leading publisher and distributor of art photographs, YellowKorner, to offer five photographers the opportunity to define their vision of Allure. The resulting images will be exhibited in YellowKorner galleries and the PEUGEOT network from October onwards.

PEUGEOT believes the world is better with Allure, with a vision for the future that should be imagined with style, creativity, and ambition with a human-centric approach. Allure is key to the PEUGEOT brand and is much more than the expression of outstanding design. It is also a state of mind, an attitude and behaviour that goes far beyond mere appearance.

YellowKorner is the leading publisher and distributor of art photographs through a network of 130 galleries in 20 countries and the yellowkorner.com online gallery.

The partnership will see five renowned photographers interpret the concept of ‘Allure’ within their own creative universe by creating a set of 15 images each. Three of these images will feature a model from the PEUGEOT range chosen by the artist.

The collaboration was launched at the Venice International Photography Festival on 20th April, of which YellowKorner is a partner. YellowKorner invited PEUGEOT to the opening ceremony of the festival, during which a film was presented introducing the partnership and the vision of the five selected photographers.

Five photographers, five concepts of Allure

Teresa Freitas: “Finding Allure in Colours” in Morocco

Laurent Baheux: “Allure of the Lion” in Kenya

Mister Fifou: “The Pride of Allure” in the Suburbs of Paris

Laurence Laborie: “Feminine Allure” in Lanzarote

Oliviero Toscani: “The Landscape of Allure” in Tuscany

The images will be displayed from October 2023 in YellowKorner galleries and on the YellowKorner website. They will also be displayed in a private viewing, with the photographers present, at some of the largest YellowKorner galleries in Europe. The images will also be displayed across the PEUGEOT network and as with all works published by YellowKorner, the photos from the collaboration with PEUGEOT will be available for purchase by the public.

Empowered by this ambition, PEUGEOT wants to promote this optimistic vision and become a true ‘Allure Activist’. The partnership with YellowKorner is the latest in a series of collaborations between PEUGEOT and the visual arts. Recently, artistic collaborations with Emeric Tchatchoua, founder of clothing brand 3.PARADIS and the visual artist J. Demsky have also been revealed to the public.

A car with global ambitions, the new 408X demonstrates the creativity of PEUGEOT’s designers and engineers who have delivered, at the top end of the C-segment, a fastback silhouette that is unprecedented both in the history of the brand and in the current global automotive market. In China and Asia, just like in Europe, the new PEUGEOT 408X is the first of its kind.

The new PEUGEOT 408X is also a testament to the excellence of PEUGEOT’s engineering focus on efficiency and smart electrification with, as in Europe, two plug-in hybrid engines, delivering 180hp and 225hp, alongside the 130hp PureTech petrol engine. With their spectacular design, and their allure, these two vehicles will showcase PEUGEOT in a new light that is particularly appealing to Chinese customers.”

*The new PEUGEOT 408 is named the 408X in China because the PEUGEOT range in the country already includes a model called the 408.

THE PEUGEOT 9X8 AND J. DEMSKY’S GRAPHIC DESIGN SPACE AT MILAN DESIGN WEEK

The new graphic design of the PEUGEOT 9X8 Hypercar has been created in collaboration with the artist J. Demsky and has been unveiled at the Milan Design Week. Not only a premiere of the PEUGEOT 9X8 Hypercar’s new livery, but the collaboration also offers a unique exhibition of a full graphic universe with the exclusive artistic signature of J. Demsky.

During the Milan Design Week, PEUGEOT will be showcasing an environment specially created for this event, which combines art and technology. Visitors to the exhibition can dive into an immersive universe, made up of an array of digital screens featuring both the unique style of J. Demsky’s graphic art and the new livery for the PEUGEOT 9X8 Hypercar.

Matthias Hossann, PEUGEOT Design Director, Phil York, PEUGEOT Global Marketing and Communication Director, and Gustavo Menezes, PEUGEOT TotalEnergies Team Driver, were all in attendance for the reveal of the new livery. The PEUGEOT 9X8 Hypercar will be on public display until 23 April.

When imagining the new livery for the 9X8, J. Demsky went beyond just decorating a car, he is sending out a powerful message, in the great tradition of the Art Cars that have marked automotive history, by applying it to a sports car that expresses the very best of PEUGEOT in terms of design, efficiency and technology. J. Demsky is a Spanish artist with an eclectic style that has been put to further use by creating a graphic design for the drivers’ suits and helmets as well.

PEUGEOT is pursuing its strategy of partnering with talented young artists. The graphic design of the PEUGEOT 9X8 is the second collaboration in 2023 and perfectly illustrates the promise that “The world is better with style“.

The unique graphic design featured on the 9X8 will take part in the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans, which will celebrate its 100th anniversary this year. The PEUGEOT 9X8 Hypercar will thus follow in the footsteps of its illustrious predecessors, the 905 (winner at Le Mans in 1992 and 1993) and the 908 (2009). This 4-wheel drive hypercar brings PEUGEOT’s hybrid know-how to the world stage of motorsport at the highest level.

The PEUGEOT TotalEnergies Team has been involved in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) since July 2022 with two 9X8s. In 2023, for its first full season, PEUGEOT Sport is aiming for the podium.

THE COUNTDOWN IS ON: NEW LEGO® TECHNIC™ PEUGEOT 9X8 PAYS HOMAGE TO THE HYBRID HYPERCAR AHEAD OF LE MANS DEBUT

After unveiling the game-changing 9X8 Hypercar last year, Team Peugeot TotalEnergies has embraced a new engineering challenge – recreating the new hybrid Le Mans Hypercar in LEGO® Technic™ form. The result is the LEGO® Technic™ PEUGEOT 9X8 24H Le Mans Hybrid Hypercar – a 1,775-piece 1:10 scale version of the race car.

In a new feat of engineering excellence, the design teams from LEGO Group and Peugeot Sport have created a precise 1:10 scale version of the pioneering 9X8 Hypercar. From the sleek silhouette down to the lime flashes on the livery, this new LEGO Technic model brings the Allure of the 9X8 to life in block form.

The 9X8 demonstrates PEUGEOTs pursuit of electrification and embodies the brands commitment to competition at the highest level. The real-life four-wheel drive Hypercars seven-speed sequential transmission has been replicated in precise scale in this new model, which also features interpretations of the Hypercars unique doors, 952PS hybrid powertrain system, its novel suspension, combining a pushrod setup on the front axle with a pull rod system on the rear, and elegant profile. Details such as the V6 engine and glow-in-the-dark light elements are also evident.

Speaking about the 1,775-piece kit, Kasper René Hansen, Designer at the LEGO Group said: “Our two brands have come together to create a product that celebrates a new era of hybrid racing and engineering. Recreating the shapes and details of such an elegant car using LEGO Technic elements wasnt an easy feat, but its been an honour to work so creatively with the Team Peugeot TotalEnergies on this one and Im proud that together we have been able to build the Hypercar for real in LEGO Technic form.”

Olivier Jansonnie, PEUGEOT Sport Technical Director, said: Our technical cooperation with the LEGO Group started in January 2022, five months before the PEUGEOT 9X8 reveal. It took one year to fully develop the project with the technical and design teams, allowing us to directly transpose the technical details of the PEUGEOT 9X8 to the LEGO Technic model. It was very important for both brands to create a model that is as realistic as possible. PEUGEOT, PEUGEOT Sport and the LEGO teams had numerous meetings about the development of the suspension and hybrid systems that cannot be replicated from photos. We thank the LEGO Group for this project, we are very proud and impressed by the final result which is more than we could have imagined.”

This latest addition to the LEGO Technic series measures over 13 cm high, 22 cm wide and 50 cm long when completed, and is sure to provide a challenge for PEUGEOT fans and LEGO enthusiasts alike.

The LEGO version of the innovative 9X8 Le Mans Hypercar was revealed at the first FIA World Endurance Championship race in Portugal – the 2023 6 Hours of Portimão. The championship will move to Spa-Francorchamps later in April, before the 9X8 makes its highly anticipated appearance at the Le Mans 24 Hour race on June 10th-11th.

The LEGO® Technic™ PEUGEOT 9X8 24H Le Mans Hybrid Hypercar set will be available via LEGO Stores and www.LEGO.com and through the PEUGEOT retailer network from 01 May priced at £169.99.
