“`html 10 Unlikely High-Performance Alternatives to the Dodge Challenger Hellcat

When it was introduced in 2008, the Dodge Challenger was seen as a savior of the muscle car class. Prior to its arrival, muscle cars had been in decline, with only the Chevrolet Camaro and Ford Mustang keeping the class alive. During its 15-year production run, Dodge unveiled several Challenger variants, but none have been as famous or sought after as the Hellcat.

Equipped with a supercharged, 6.2-liter Hemi V8 engine, the Challenger Hellcat redefined performance, offering buyers supercar-level performance at less than half the cost – reminiscent of what muscle cars did to more exotic counterparts during the heyday of Motown.

This even sparked a revolution within parent company Fiat-Chrysler, leading to the introduction of the Durango Hellcat, the Jeep Trackhawk, and AWD variants of the Charger and Challenger Hellcats.

However, with Dodge’s recent announcement of the “Last Call” Hellcats, the brand is signaling the end of this legendary moniker as we know it. The Dodge Charger EV provides a glimpse of Stellantis’ shift towards electric power over gasoline, while the Ramcharger 1500 demonstrates the diminishing role of massive engines in the new electrified world.

If you’re feeling limited in your search for performance, however, you might be surprised to learn that there are some vehicles capable of delivering similar thrills, and at a lower cost. Some of them may not be traditional muscle cars, though.

Ford’s Most Ambitious Engine Was Also One Of Its Biggest Disasters

In a press release in 2008, Ford introduced its first EcoBoost engine, a V-6 turbocharged 3.5L that was initially used in the Lincoln MKS. Ford claimed that this engine would provide an approximate 2 mpg improvement and emit up to 15 percent fewer CO2 emissions compared to traditional engines. Along with a promised 20% increase in fuel economy, the EcoBoost family had high expectations.

As the EcoBoost line expanded, the goal was to apply these advantages to even smaller engines. The EcoBoost 1.0L, the smallest of them all, made its debut at the Beijing Auto Show in 2010. This engine incorporated the Ti-VCT (twin independent variable camshaft timing) technology, turbocharging, and other benefits of EcoBoost into Ford’s tiniest engine. It was a daring move. However, this ambitious little engine turned out to be quite problematic in some cases and potentially very hazardous.

That being said, it doesn’t mean that the EcoBoost 1.0L was not a successful engine. In fact, it won the International Engine and Powertrain of the Year award in the Sub-150 PS (approximately 147 horsepower) category in May 2019. This was the 11th award received by the EcoBoost engines in the seven years they had been on the market. Dean Slavnich, the co-chairman of the awards, even described the engine as “one of the finest examples of powertrain engineering” after it won the award three years in a row.

While achieving practicality and performance at a 1.6L level is impressive, it came at a significant cost in certain situations.

2008 Alpina B7 Returns to Factory After $43K Restoration

The 2008 Alpina B7 is a notable car that often grabs attention. It is known for being expensive to repair, maintain, and restore. This is why the recent video on the M539 Restorations YouTube channel feels like a significant event.

More than a year ago, Sreten purchased the 2008 Alpina B7 for $4,000. He affectionately refers to it as a “giant check engine light.” The car is based on the E65 BMW 7 Series and comes with striking features such as 21-inch wheels, a more aggressive body design with a deeper front air dam, side skirts, and a rear valence. However, the true upgrades are hidden beneath the surface. Along with the cosmetic changes, the car receives improvements to its suspension and brakes to handle the power of its 500-horsepower supercharged 4.4-liter V8 engine.

Ranking of Every Ford EcoBoost Engine, From Worst to Best

In 2008, Ford announced the launch of its EcoBoost engine line-up, starting with the 3.5-liter, twin-turbocharged six-cylinder engine. The debut was made in the 2009 Lincoln MKS, offering the power of a V8 engine with the fuel efficiency of a V6.

In 2015, a new version of the EcoBoost engine was unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show, powering the 2017 Ford GT supercar. The previous Ford GT, released in 2005, had a 5.4-liter supercharged V8 engine that produced 500 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque. In contrast, the 2017 GT, equipped with a smaller 3.5-liter six-cylinder engine, delivered an impressive 647 horsepower and 550 pound-feet of torque.

Currently, a range of models use the “Cyclone” engine, including the F-150, which offers a standard EcoBoost version with 400 horsepower, 500 pound-feet of torque, and a towing capacity of 14,000 pounds. Additionally, the Raptor variant provides a High Output option with 50 more horses and 10 more pound-feet of torque.

Although the 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine has proven to perform well in various applications, it’s important to note some issues encountered. The first generation “Cyclone” engines had common timing chain problems. While Ford resolved these issues in the second-generation engine, the new engines experienced a noisy rattle caused by cam phasers during the initial three years of their existence.

Top Xbox Games Released in 2023

In 2023, EA brought back the popular “Dead Space” franchise with a remake of the 2008 game that started it all. This survival horror game, developed by Motive Studio, was released in January for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. Like the original, players take on the role of Isaac Clarke, an engineer who finds himself trapped on a ship where the crew is being killed by terrifying creatures called Necromorphs. As one of the few survivors, Clarke must use his engineering tools to fight back against the Necromorphs.

The “Dead Space” remake offers a number of improvements over the original game. One notable change is that Clarke is no longer a silent protagonist and is more involved in the story through cutscenes. Another welcome improvement is that weapons can now be unlocked more easily, as they no longer need to be purchased after finding a blueprint. Additionally, the newly added peeling system allows for more gruesome and visually impressive ways to destroy Necromorphs.

With its impressive visuals, improved gameplay mechanics, and updated narrative, this version of “Dead Space” is considered the definitive way to experience the game and learn the story behind one of EA’s most successful recent series.

Front parking sensors, an electronic handbrake and a drive mode selector are also standard on Allure models.

Completing the standard line-up, GT trim adds a 3D Quartz digital instrument cluster, an HD reversing camera and full LED headlights with Smartbeam Assist and automatic height adjustment. A leather steering wheel with GT lettering, keyless entry and wireless smartphone charging enhance comfort and connectivity. Drivers can also choose from eight colours of ambient lighting linked to the drive modes.

To celebrate the launch of the new e-2008, PEUGOT is offering a First Edition model with an enhanced specification based on GT trim. Additional features include heated Alcantara® seats with ‘Adamite’ stitching. The driver’s seat is also electrically adjustable and comes with a massage function. A tri-phase 11kW onboard charger is fitted as standard (available as an option on other trims), while upgraded infotainment is provided with the PEUGEOT i-Connect® Advanced with Connected Navigation.

The First Edition will be available exclusively in two new body colours for the new 2008 – Selenium Grey and Okenite White.

The new 2008 is available to order now, with prices starting from £24,020 OTR.
