Pol Tarrés is a person, fantasy, and legend who’s used to having his achievements measured in titles, championships, podiums, and medals. He holds accolades such because the 2011 Trial Junior World Champion and took fifth on the 2022 Africa Eco Race. But he added a brand new success metric to the checklist again in 2020: toes.

Aboard a Yamaha Tenere 700 on March 14th, 2020, he set a twin-cylinder ADV motorcycle Guinness World Record by using to an altitude of 20,202 toes on the slopes of the Andes’ Cerro Mercedario. Since then, he is added two extra altitude information to the checklist.

Two More Records

Tarrés straddled a Yamaha YZ450FX to 22,165 toes on March sixth, 2024, as he ascended the world’s highest energetic volcano, the Ojos Del Salado, which is situated in Chile. By doing so, Tarrés put his identify within the Guinness Book of World Records as soon as extra, this time for setting an altitude report aboard a wheeled machine.

Instead of resting on his laurels, Tarrés descended the volcano and ready to experience up it once more the very subsequent day. But this time, he’d be piloting a motorbike greater than twice the load of his YZ450FX as he went again to his trusty Yamaha Tenere 700 World Raid.

Less than 24 hours after cementing his identify within the report books, on March seventh, Tarrés clicked his Tenere 700 World Raid into first to ascend the volcano as soon as extra. He did not cease using till he reached an altitude of 21,909 toes, breaking his personal ADV altitude report from 2020 by 1,707 toes. The feat is unimaginable, however how Tarrés entered the report books this time is much more spectacular.

When Tarrés broke the ADV bike altitude report in 2020, he used an oxygen tank, which he stored in his backpack. Even with this, because of the low oxygen ranges and monumental bodily process, he burned round 20,000 energy per day using towards the altitude report. But this time, he did not use an oxygen tank—he was naturally aspirated. This man is our sort of loopy.

Watch Him Do It

When Tarrés set the primary report in 2020, a movie crew recorded the entire thing and turned it right into a 19-minute-long documentary.

Thankfully, There was a movie crew with him once more this time, and we are able to look ahead to one other documentary someday within the close to future.

Is There Anything He Can’t Do? Brabec Does The Double At 2024 Mint 400

If there is a racer who’s eager to showcase simply what the phrase “winning ways” is about, it is Ricky Brabec. After beginning the 12 months by taking his second-ever Dakar Rally win (an unprecedented feat by an American rider), Brabec and famously mustachioed teammate Skyler Howes had been again at it once more in Las Vegas on the 2024 Mint 400.

The Monster Energy Honda teammates traded in two-wheels for 4, which is becoming since if you happen to add each their bikes collectively, that is the quantity you’d get anyway. We child. Anyway, the formidable pair on any variety of wheels drove their Honda Talon to win the BFGoodrich Mint 400’s UTV Pro NA class on the very first day.

Brabec wasn’t carried out but, although. After scooping that UTV Pro NA win, he and one other Honda teammate, Preston Campbell, saddled up on a Honda CRF 450R and proceeded to win the 2024 Mint 400’s Open Pro Motorcycle division. Yet one other piece of shiny {hardware} for the trophy room!

“Yeah, you realize, was a extremely good weekend for Monster. And a extremely good weekend for Honda. Dakar’s the dream, however to return to the Mint 400 for the primary time in a facet by facet, with my Monster Energy/Honda HRC Rally teammate Skyler Howes, yeah we did a extremely wonderful job. 1st in Pro non-turbo. Really cool to be a privateer crew and beat the HRC Factory Honda Talon Ridgeline program. That’s an enormous push there and we had been actually comfortable to perform this,” Brabec stated later in a press release.

And as a result of he did the double, we’ll do a factor we do not usually do and embed two of his joyous Instagram posts right here:

What About Skyler Howes?

For his half, Brabec’s Dakar teammate Howes expressed shock that Brabec invited him to affix him in piloting the Talon. In reality, he stated, he’d by no means really pushed one earlier than and likewise hadn’t raced on 4 wheels in a minimum of the previous three years. While Brabec powered by means of the primary two laps to safe the lead, Howes was in a position to deliver it house after the extraordinary nine-hour race. Though, we suppose, after a number of days doing the Dakar, 9 hours most likely is much less daunting than it may be to anybody else.

Howes added in an Instagram submit that this Mint 400 win was particularly significant to him, since his household’s early racing historical past was on 4 wheels. In reality, his grandpa was each a mechanic and a driver within the Baja Boot, and likewise had Mint trophies courting again to the early Seventies. That’s fairly a feat to have within the household, for certain.

Congrats to the teammates, their crew, and everybody who likes to have a superb time on any variety of wheels.

Watch This KTM 450 Rally Undergo A Full Service Mid-Race

Pretty a lot anybody who’s been driving a motorcycle for an honest period of time could be acquainted with performing primary upkeep on their machines. While not everyone seems to be equally expert relating to wrenching on their bikes, it is understood that tackling necessities equivalent to engine oil, brakes, chain upkeep, and fluids is one thing all riders have to be acquainted with.

Indeed, most highway bikes have fairly lengthy service intervals – our engine oil can final upwards of 5,000 miles, whereas brake pads and fluids may even survive a complete driving season. In the world of racing, these service intervals exit the window, and the outdated adage of “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” is flushed down the drain. If we have a look at the highest stage of racing such because the Dakar Rally, groups do every little thing they will to make sure that their bikes are in tip-top form after each stage. Few manufacturers take off-road racing, not to mention the Dakar Rally, as severely as KTM.

Toby Price

Team Orange has just about constructed its popularity on this planet of racing within the Dakar Rally. With 19 Dakar wins underneath its belt, it is secure to say that KTM is aware of a factor or two not nearly racing the Dakar Rally, but in addition preserving its bikes in wonderful situation all all through the race. A latest video uploaded on Red Bull Rally’s official YouTube channel offers us a glimpse of simply how in-depth KTM works on its bikes in the midst of the desert.

Once Toby Price parks his bike, mechanics go straight to work, losing no time in ensuring the 450 Rally is in pristine situation, able to deal with the subsequent section. They strip the bike solely of its physique work, and carry out the same old upkeep service we normally do on our highway bikes – they alter the oil, flush out the coolant, and clear the bike. Riding within the desert implies that tiny grains of sand get in all of the nooks and crannies, as such, KTM’s mechanics do not simply clear the bike, they strip it down and clear every particular person half totally. The wheels and suspension system are eliminated, serviced, and cleaned.

It goes with out saying that rally bikes undergo fairly the beating each time they run a race. As such, mechanics change any broken half with a model new one, not simply to maintain the bike operating properly but in addition to maintain it trying good. After all, there are many videographers and photographers on the beginning line, and race bikes – particularly these from a model as esteemed as KTM – have to look their finest. In the case of the 450 Rally, it receives a brand new Akrapovic exhaust, alongside a radical wipe down of its bodywork.

One factor that is actually spectacular is how KTM’s mechanics ensure each single element is dialed right down to producer’s specs. The steady clicking of the torque wrench is an ASMR deal with for any bike mechanic each seasoned and novice, and the way in which each half slides into place with out the necessity for a lot convincing is bound to make us DIY-ers extraordinarily jealous. After all, bikes just like the 450 Rally have been designed to be as simply serviceable as potential.

Experience the Thrilling Rev of a Small-Scale V12 Engine

Get ready to witness the most amazing 50cc engine ever created. This genuine V12 engine transforms gasoline into an incredible symphony of internal combustion. With a digital readout displaying an astounding 11,502 RPM, this engine is a mechanical marvel. Equipped with custom headers, it delivers pure mechanical music without the need for higher RPMs.

This impressive engine is the creation of JohnnyQ90 on YouTube, known for his small-scale engines. Previously, he showcased small V8 engines, including a naturally aspirated version and one with a tiny supercharger. Now, it’s time to introduce the 12-cylinder engine. This single overhead cam engine holds 1.5 ounces (45 milliliters) of 15w40 oil and runs on 100 octane fuel.

Mini V12

This liquid-cooled engine features a custom cooling system. Initially, an aluminum fan with black blades was used, but it proved too small for the job. Eventually, an 80mm computer fan was replaced with a 100mm fan, efficiently preventing overheating under throttle. Mounted on an elegant aluminum plate, this engine can reach high speeds without any cooling issues.

And there’s more to this exceptional engine. The earlier version of the V12 had dual distributors for each cylinder bank, but the upgraded model boasts an electronic ignition with a coil-on-plug design. Additionally, a new flywheel has been installed at the back. With the exhaust ports fully open, the engine produces a wild and aggressive sound, reminiscent of Italian supercars. The addition of 3D-printed stainless-steel tube headers further enhances the powerful exhaust note.

The video provides temperature and RPM data for the engine. A thermal camera captures the V12 under load, revealing valve cover temperatures hovering around 91 degrees Celsius. The headers are slightly warmer at 147 degrees, but thanks to the efficient cooling system, the engine maintains a safe operating temperature. The engine idles at 3,100 rpm and reaches an exhilarating 11,502 rpm at full throttle, producing a sound reminiscent of Formula 1 cars from the V12 era.

We reached out to the YouTube channel for more details about the build process. Hopefully, we will soon have additional information to share. In the meantime, we eagerly await more incredible mini-engine creations from this channel.

Street Riders, Here Are Some Basic Off-Road Riding Tips For Dirt And Gravel

If you’re an experienced street rider who wants to try off-roading but is unsure how to start, this video from MotoTrek offers some great tips. In the video, off-road instructor Dusty Wessels provides basic but useful advice to help you feel more comfortable exploring the unpaved roads and improving your off-road riding skills.

The first tip is to invest in a good set of dual sport tires. While you can opt for more hardcore off-road tires if you’ll only be riding off-road, it’s advisable to choose tires that can handle both off-road and street riding. Modern tire technology plays a crucial role in improving the performance of the tires on different surfaces, so read reviews and take advantage of the current advancements in tire technology.

The next important aspect is body positioning. Standing up on the pegs gives you better control and stability off-road. This technique allows you to redistribute your bike’s weight when encountering obstacles and lowers the center of gravity. It also provides a clearer view of the path ahead. Additionally, bending your knees slightly into the tank and loosening your grip on the handlebars allows you to flow with the bike, use gentle inputs for steering, and maintain traction more effectively.

When riding off-road, it’s important to focus on smooth and gradual motions. Apply the brakes smoothly with a rear brake bias, use gentle throttle inputs, and make smooth turns. Gradual inputs make a significant difference in off-road riding. It’s crucial to gain practical experience and practice your off-road skills. While watching instructional videos and reading about off-road riding is helpful, nothing beats actually getting out there and riding.

If you’re a beginner and concerned about damaging your expensive adventure bike, consider starting with a dirt bike. Dirt bikes are designed for off-road riding and are more forgiving in case of falls. Overcoming mental obstacles is also important. If you’re worried about bike damage, ride a smaller bike that’s meant to be dropped until you gain confidence. Invest in boots with strong ankle support to alleviate concerns about ankle injuries. When you’re less stressed about peripheral concerns, your skills will improve more quickly.
