Suzuki Introduces Gixxer 250 Model Range in the Australian Market

Suzuki is known worldwide for its wide range of motorcycle models suitable for riders of all experience levels, especially beginners. The company has recently expanded its lineup in Australia by launching the new Gixxer 250. This exciting addition comes in both naked and fully faired versions, giving riders diverse options to match their preferences and riding style.

The Suzuki Gixxer 250 has already gained popularity in the Asian market. In Australia, it is expected to be a popular choice for novice riders with learner’s licenses. Interestingly, these new Gixxer 250 models will be available alongside the V-Strom 250 SX adventure-tourer. They share the same frame, engine, and technology, providing riders with a familiar yet diverse lineup to choose from.

Suzuki Launches Gixxer 250 Model Range In Australian Market

The name “Gixxer” is derived from the GSX range of premium models, known for sportbikes like the GSX-R600 and GSX-R1000. This time, the quarter-liter Gixxer proudly carries that name as its official title. In terms of style, the Gixxer 250 offers a naked sportbike aesthetic, while the Gixxer 250 SF comes with a full fairing. Both models feature comfortable upright ergonomics, making them accessible and inviting for riders of all levels.

Performance-wise, these bikes are equipped with a powerful 249cc, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected, single-cylinder engine. They deliver 26.7 horsepower and 15.5 pound-feet (22.2 Newton-meters) of torque, providing ample power for an exciting ride. The six-speed manual transmission gives riders control over speed and acceleration, while the chain final drive ensures a responsive and engaging riding experience.

The appeal of these two new models lies in their accessibility, thanks to their approachable performance and lightweight design. The Gixxer 250 weighs just 156 kilograms, making it easy to handle. The Gixxer 250 SF weighs slightly more at 161 kilograms but still maintains a comfortable riding position. Both options cater to a wide range of riders, offering a user-friendly yet thrilling riding experience.

The new Suzuki Gixxer 250 models are expected to be available in the Australian market starting November 2023. The Gixxer 250 will be priced at $6,490 AUD (approximately $4,178 USD), while the Gixxer 250 SF will have a slightly higher price of $6,790 AUD (approximately $4,371 USD). These competitive prices make them an affordable choice for motorcycle enthusiasts in Australia.

Volkswagen is showcasing an all-electric sports limousine in the upper mid-sized class at the ID. Treffen in Locarno. The ID.X Performance concept car offers powerful all-wheel drive, performance-oriented suspension, and a striking appearance.

According to Maria Soni Reissfelder, Head of Marketing & Sales at Volkswagen ID. Family, the ID.X Performance allows them to meet members of the ID. Drivers Club in person and showcase the potential of the MEB (modular electric drive platform) in terms of combining performance and elegance. The show car is based on the new ID.7, and Andreas Reckewerth, Head of Technology Office MEB, and his team have enhanced its performance capabilities. The MEB platform offers great possibilities for creative vehicle development.

Powerful with an expressive look. The ID.X Performance concept car showcases its athleticism through its dynamic appearance. Its exterior features numerous sporty elements, including carbon front splitter and rear diffuser. The sporty suspension has been modified with increased toe and lowered ride height, resulting in enhanced performance and agility. The vehicle is equipped with 20-inch sports alloy wheels, carbon wing at the rear, and tinted tail light clusters. Inside, carbon bucket seats provide excellent support, with red accents adding to the sporty vibe.

Powerful dual-motor drive with 411 kW (558 PS) and boost function. The ID.X Performance boasts all-wheel drive with a rear synchronous motor and a front asynchronous motor. This configuration allows for short-term overload capability and low drag losses. The drive torque is controlled by a Vehicle Dynamics Manager, which also manages the rear axle differential lock. The vehicle is powered by a high-capacity drive battery that enables high power output and fast charging.

Touratech Introduces New Voyager Jerrycan for Off-The-Grid Adventurers

Modern motorcycles are known for their fuel efficiency, thanks to advanced engine technology and electronic fuel injection systems. However, many dirt bikes and off-road capable adventure bikes have relatively small fuel tanks. This can become a problem if you run out of gas during an adventurous ride in remote areas without a gas station nearby.

To address this issue, Touratech has developed the Voyager fuel bottle. This container can be attached to the motorcycle’s side cases using a specifically designed bracket for Touratech’s Zega Evo side cases. This allows for a secure attachment that doesn’t significantly affect the bike’s balance. As a result, adventure and dual-sport riders can have an additional two liters of fuel, which can be crucial in challenging situations. TVS Opens Bookings For Upcoming Apache 310 Naked Sportbike

TVS Motor Company is one of the biggest motorcycle manufacturers in India, and has built global acclaim thanks to its partnership with BMW for the G 310 range of motorcycles. Needless to say, the beginner-friendly platform has proven to be a resounding success for both BMW and TVS, as it comprises a massive segment of BMW Motorrad India’s sales.

On BMW‘s corner, the 310 range encompasses three models – the G 310 R naked bike, G 310 GS adventure-tourer, and G 310 RR sportbike. Meanwhile, on TVS’ corner of the ring, the 310 lineup consists of just one bike, the RR 310 sportbike. That said, this could all be about to change, as TVS has been stirring up quite a buzz surrounding a new naked streetfighter derived from the RR 310.

On August 22, 2023, TVS took to social media to upload a teaser video of the new motorcycle. Not long after, on August 25, 2023, TVS posted yet another teaser video on YouTube with the same theme, but this time, actually showcasing the new bike doing some hooligan riding around a neighborhood. The video shows a professional rider pulling all sorts of stunts on the new bike – wheelies, stoppies, skids, and drifts – making it clear that this little naked bike means business.

We also get a glimpse of the bike in more detail. After slowing the video down to 0.2-times its speed, I was able to take a few screengrabs showing a KTM-esque trellis frame, inverted front forks, and aggressive bodywork. Its silhouette is reminiscent of a half-faired naked bike like the Ducati Streetfighter, while its athletic stance and agile nature reminds me of KTM’s Duke range of naked streetfighters.

Apart from the new teaser video, TVS hasn’t revealed any more information about the bike – not even its name. Multiple Indian publications state that it’ll be called the Apache RTR 310, while other speculate that it’ll be named the Apache 310 Street. Whatever the case may be, pre-bookings for the new bike have already been opened, and the bike is set to be unveiled in all its glory come September 6, 2023.

Razer Kishi V2 Pro Controller For Android Arrives With Xbox Variant

Razer has introduced the Kishi V2 Pro Controller for Android, which comes with an Xbox variant. The controller boasts universal compatibility for phones of all sizes, thanks to its extendable bridge feature. It also includes passthrough charging and a 3.5mm headphone jack, which makes sense considering its connection to the phone is through the USB or Lightning port.

The Xbox Edition version of the controller is specifically designed for subscribers of Xbox Game Pass. This is because Microsoft’s cloud-based game streaming platform enables users to play major titles on less capable devices, like smartphones.

Prior to this release, the Pro version of the Kishi controller was only available with the Razer Edge, which is the company’s handheld gaming console similar to the Steam Deck and Nintendo Switch.

The Android version of the Xbox Edition controller is priced at $149.99, while the iPhone version is listed at $119.99. The non-Xbox version of the Pro controller for Android, which does not feature the Xbox button, is $20 cheaper.

How AI is Assisting Police in Tracking Millions of License Plates Daily

With the help of Automated License Plate Recognition (ALPR) cameras, law enforcement agencies can record and store license plate information each time a vehicle is spotted. This data allows them to track the movements of a vehicle over time. According to a report by Fox News, the police in New York apprehended a drug dealer with the help of AI technology that searched through a database of 1.6 billion license plates over a span of two years. The technology used in this case was “Rekor Scout,” developed by Rekor, which claims to provide accurate license plate and vehicle recognition on various types of cameras.

According to the company, it takes only 20 minutes to deploy Rekor Scout and begin collecting license plate data. In addition to maintaining its own database, the software can be integrated with other tools, such as a red alert system that notifies authorities whenever a license plate on a watchlist is detected, all in real-time. However, it is important to adhere to local laws and regulations when using this technology.

Interestingly, the most affordable surveillance plan offered by Rekor for Scout costs just $10 per camera per month. For more advanced features, such as capturing and storing car color, license plate number, vehicle make and model, and even the direction of travel, the Pro plan is available at a cost of $65 per camera per month.

Another vendor in this space, DRN, claims to have a database of over 9 billion license plate scans that can be accessed by private parties. Their system collects hundreds of millions of license plate data points each month.

Europe’s Seven Big Car Brands In Decline Over Last 20 Years, Except One

The European car market has undergone significant changes in the past two decades, with the rise of Tesla and the entry of Chinese brands. Europe, being a highly competitive market with strict safety and emissions standards, has seen shifts in the dominance of traditional car manufacturers.

Europe is the third largest automotive market in the world, after China and the United States, and it ranks second in terms of electric vehicle adoption. However, when it comes to the past 20 years, some car brands have fared better than others.

Big Brands Shrinking?

Between 2003 and 2023, the European automotive market witnessed a significant shift in brand dominance. Traditionally, Europe has been led by seven major automakers: Fiat from Italy, Citroen, Peugeot, and Renault from France, Volkswagen and Opel from Germany, and Ford from the UK.

In 2003, these seven brands (including Opel with Vauxhall) held almost 58 percent of new car registrations in Europe across 29 markets. Due to their strong presence in their respective home markets, they maintained a relatively strong position compared to Japanese and Korean brands.

For instance, Opel had a market share of 10 percent in Germany, while Renault had 27 percent in France. Although these figures were lower compared to the 1990s, they were still satisfactory because Korean brands had not yet made significant progress, and Japanese brands were trying to win over European consumers.

And Then Came SUVs

The dynamics started to shift with the popularity of SUVs, which began with the launch of the first-generation Nissan Qashqai. Additionally, Hyundai and Kia established manufacturing plants in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, producing competitive cars that appealed to local consumers.

As a result, in 2013, the Big-7 brands accounted for nearly 49 percent of the European car market, a decrease of 9 percentage points compared to a decade earlier. Between 2003 and 2013, six of these brands saw a decline in market share, ranging from a 0.9-point decrease for Fiat to a 4-point decrease for Renault. The exception was Volkswagen, which increased its market share from 9.8 percent in 2003 to 12.6 percent in 2013.

Who Came Out on Top?

In addition to Volkswagen’s slight gain in market share, the biggest winners over the past 20 years have been German premium brands, Toyota, Hyundai, Kia, and most recently, Tesla. These brands possess a greater level of flexibility compared to their European counterparts.

This allows them to introduce fresh products faster, catering to the evolving needs of consumers. Moreover, they were less affected by the European crisis between 2011 and 2014, and their strong global presence enabled them to save costs.

Oben Rorr Electric Motorcycle Deliveries to Start in July 2023

Electric motorcycles are gaining popularity in the European and Asian markets due to their affordability and practicality. In terms of performance, manufacturers are striving to maintain the traditional motorcycle experience. Oben Electric, an Indian company, has developed a sporty and performance-focused electric motorbike called the Rorr.

Previously, the Oben Rorr was mostly a concept and prototype, but now the company has announced that deliveries of the first batch of Rorrs will begin this month. Customers can expect to receive their sporty electric motorcycles as early as the first week of July.

Prior to the delivery announcement, Oben Electric opened an experience center in Bangalore. These centers aim to provide potential customers with a better understanding of the technology behind electric vehicles. Given the differences between electric and traditional motorcycles, it is essential to educate customers about how the technology works.

The Oben Rorr has received over 21,000 pre-orders, highlighting its popularity in the EV motorcycle segment. Its key features include a 10-kilowatt IPMSM electric motor developed in-house, 13.4 horsepower output, and 0 to 25 miles per hour acceleration in just three seconds. The top speed is limited to 62 miles per hour.

Oben Electric takes pride in the Oben Rorr’s 95% domestic component-level localization. This means that 95% of the bike’s parts are sourced from Indian manufacturers, with many of them being developed in-house. The battery, for example, is a Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) unit, the first of its kind developed by Oben Electric. LFP batteries offer more recharge cycles, improved heat resistance, and faster charging capabilities. According to Oben, the battery can be fully charged in just two hours.

Despite the long waiting list of 21,000 orders, the Oben Rorr is priced at Rs 149,999 (approximately $1,827 USD), making it an attractive option in India’s growing EV two-wheeler market.
