The new Nexon will have a more premium design and features
The upcoming facelifted versions of the Tata Nexon and Nexon EV will feature a new design inspired by the Curvv and Harrier EV models.
Expected features include a touch-based AC panel, a 10.25-inch touchscreen system, and a digital driver’s display.
Safety will be improved with the addition of six airbags, a 360-degree camera, and front and rear parking sensors.
The new Nexon is likely to be powered by a more powerful 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine, while the diesel engine will be retained.
There have been no reports of powertrain updates for the Nexon EV so far.
The Tata Nexon facelift and Nexon EV facelift are both scheduled to go on sale on September 14. These models will receive significant design and feature changes, marking the first major upgrade since 2020.
Fresh Design
The facelifted Nexon will feature a completely refreshed design. The front profile will be inspired by the Tata Curvv and Harrier EV, with full-length LED daytime running lights (DRL), a sleek grille, a split headlamp design, and sharper bumpers. The alloy wheels will also receive a redesign, and the rear will showcase connected LED tail lights, a redesigned bumper, and a more pronounced boot. Similar design changes are expected for the Nexon EV.
Refreshed Interiors
The cabin of both the Nexon and Nexon EV will undergo significant changes for a cleaner look. Spy shots have revealed a new two-spoke steering wheel, touch-based climate control panel, and revised seat upholstery. These upgrades are expected to carry over to the Nexon EV as well.
More Features
The facelifted Nexon is expected to come with a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a digital driver’s display, up to six airbags, a 360-degree camera, and front and rear parking sensors. The Nexon EV and its ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) version might also feature advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), making it the first sub-4-metre SUV to have this safety feature.
The Nexon will continue to offer petrol, diesel, and electric powertrain options. It is expected to retain the 1.5-litre diesel engine with manual and AMT transmission options. The 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine is likely to be replaced by Tata’s new 1.2 TGDI turbo-petrol engine, which delivers 125PS of power and 225Nm of torque. The new petrol engine is also expected to come with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. As for the Nexon EV, there is no information yet about any updates to its powertrain. Currently, it is equipped with 30.2kWh (Prime) and 40.5kWh (Max) battery packs, offering a claimed range of up to 312 kms and 453 kms, respectively.
The prices of the facelifted Nexon and Nexon EV are expected to increase due to the significant upgrades, particularly in their top variants. Currently, the ICE version of the Nexon is priced between Rs 8 lakh and Rs 14.60 lakh, while the Nexon EV is priced between Rs 14.49 lakh and Rs 19.54 lakh (all prices ex-showroom).

Honda City is the oldest running nameplate in this space and is well known for its reliability. Currently in its fifth-generation, the City is still the benchmark when it comes to in-cabin quality and comfort.
It’s the only sedan in its segment to get the option of a strong-hybrid powertrain, which claims an efficiency of up to 27.13kmpl. The Skoda Slavia came in as a bigger and more powerful and premium replacement to the Rapid. It is a sibling offering to the Virtus with many commonalities under the different metal skin. The premium quotient here is much in line with the Octavia, which was positioned a segment-above.

The Maruti Ciaz is the most affordable compact sedan right now, but also the most outdated one. However, don’t let its affordability trick you into thinking of it as a sedan compromised by pricing. It gets a humble 1.5-litre petrol engine with the option of an age-old 4-speed torque converter automatic. This powertrain is not exactly punchy, but certainly quite economical.
Compared to its rivals, the Ciaz is slightly smaller in terms of length and width but still has a fairly spacious cabin. While being equipped with necessary features, it misses out on many feel-good elements like an electric sunroof, ventilated front seats, and a wireless charger. Safety is also low with the absence of six airbags and tyre pressure monitoring system.
However, in terms of design, the Ciaz has aged gracefully without any major updates to the outside and it still offers a great value proposition as a comfy and accommodating sedan.
Earlier, there were a lot more premium sedans to choose from. Without having to enter the luxury space or spend north of Rs 30 lakh, you could go for the likes of Toyota Corolla Altis, Hyundai Elantra, Skoda Octavia, and Honda Civic. However, none of these monikers remain today and only one is expected to return (the Octy).
In today’s mid-size sedan segment, the compact sedans have filled in their shoes by offering a similar experience. The performance, dimensions, features, and the premium quotient of these compact sedans are now somewhat at par with sedans a segment above.
Acura has been relatively late to the game in terms of EV adoption. But today that changes with the debut of the 2024 ZDX, the luxury automaker’s first full EV. The new ZDX boasts a stylish design and a high-end cabin, as well as range and performance specs that make it an instant competitor against the BMW and Mercedes-Benz EVs of the world – at least on paper.
Sharing a GM Ultium platform with the Chevrolet Blazer EV, the base ZDX A-Spec uses a 102.0-kilowatt-hour battery pack and comes in either a single- or dual-motor configuration. The base ZDX has 340 horsepower and an estimated 325 miles of range with the single-motor setup, falling to 315 miles of range with the dual-motor layout.
The ZDX has a DC fast charging rate of 190 kilowatts, which means you can recoup up to 81 miles in as little as 10 minutes. And Acura promises comprehensive home charging solutions will be available via a new Acura Home Electrification website that connects ZDX owners with local installers.
At the top of the range is the ZDX Type S, which earns the title of “most powerful Acura SUV ever” with a 500-hp, dual-motor setup. It uses the same 102.0-kWh battery pack as the base ZDX A-Spec, and even with all that power, the Type S still has an estimated 288 miles of range.

Acura promises a “near” 50/50 weight distribution for the ZDX platform as a whole, with performance upgrades specific to the Type S ranging from an adjustable air suspension with performance-tuned adaptive dampers to 15.6-inch, six-piston Brembo brakes with yellow-painted calipers on the front wheels. The ZDX Type S will even have a high-performance summer tire option with a gloss black wheel.
Visually, the new ZDX isn’t some redux of the original lifted fastback from 2010 – for better or worse. Instead, it has a more traditional SUV shape with a gloss black roof, 20- or 22-inch wheels depending on the trim, and a front fascia inspired by the Acura Precision EV concept.
Acura’s Diamond Pentagon grille highlights the front end with a 3D embossed diamond pattern and an illuminated surround, while stylish Jewel Eye headlights adorn either side of the grille joined by signature LED daytime running lights underneath.
And buyers can select from a bevy of beautiful paint jobs to coat the exterior of their ZDX. The new Double Apex Blue Pearl from the Precision EV carries over to production, while the Type S model brings with it the signature Tiger Eye Pearl paint, which is also available on the flagship versions of the TLX, MDX, and Integra.
In terms of sizing, the ZDX is 197.7 inches long and 77.0 inches wide, which makes it just a touch smaller than the gas-powered MDX (198.4 inches long / 78.7 inches wide). But its battery platform gives it a significantly longer wheelbase; 121.8 inches here compared to just 113.8 inches on the MDX. And that extra-long platform means additional space in the cabin – which promises to be a lovely place to sit.
The ZDX has a driver-oriented cockpit with an 11.0-inch digital instrument cluster and an 11.3-inch touchscreen with a new Google user interface. That includes Google Assistant and advanced Google Maps that come loaded with EV-specific features like instant battery preconditioning when the destination is a DC fast charging station. That setup also includes standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, unlike its Ultium platform-mate Chevrolet Blazer EV.
The ZDX will also be the first Acura to have a standard immersive Bang & Olufsen audio system with up to 14 distinct amplification channels. That setup consists of 18 speakers – including four in the headliner – and a subwoofer.
An AcuraWatch safety suite will be standard on all ZDX models with front and rear emergency braking, blind spot monitoring with steering assist, and a rear pedestrian alert. Move up to the Type S model to unlock the new AcuraWatch 360+ hands-free driver assist. Akin to GM Super Cruise or Ford Blue Cruise, AcuraWatch 360+ allows for hands-free driving on up to 400,000 miles of compatible roads and comes with another first: an automatic parking assistant.
The Acura ZDX begins production next year and buyers will be able to get into their cars by the end of 2024. The ZDX starts at “around” $60,000, while the Type S model will cost $70,000. Compare that to the MDX, which starts at $51,045 with destination and asks $67,895, and the ZDX comes in at a few grand pricier in both respects than its gas counterpart.
Renault’s performance brand, Alpine, is experiencing a highly successful year in terms of sales. With strong demand, the company is currently operating at full capacity to meet the overwhelming customer requests. This is certainly a positive challenge to have, especially in anticipation of Alpine’s ambitious expansion plans by the end of the decade.
In June alone, Alpine received 593 registrations. Although this number may not seem significant, it is important to acknowledge that Alpine is not a mainstream brand and currently offers a limited range of products. Additionally, this figure represents a remarkable 71% increase compared to June of the previous year. Moreover, it surpasses Alpine’s previous record of 536 cars sold in March 2019, making it the most successful month in the brand’s history.

Although the variants considered in this comparison of both the premium MPVs share an almost identical equipment list, it’s actually the Innova Hycross that offers a little more comfort and convenience features. These include auto-dimming IRVM, connected car tech with remote AC control, front and rear parking sensors, 360-degree camera and rear defogger.
That said, it’s the Maruti Invicto which offers more occupant safety tech thanks to the inclusion of six airbags and 3-point seatbelts for all passengers.
As mentioned earlier, the price jump between the next available variants for these MPVs is less for the Innova Hycross, at around Rs 2 lakh compared to an extra Rs 3.63 lakh for the Invicto Alpha Plus. For the premium, Toyota is offering the VX (O) Hybrid variant with additional equipment such as front fog lamps, a panoramic sunroof, a bigger 10.1-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay functionality, and six airbags. It also maintains the choice of the 8-seater layout.
You can consider stretching to the next Toyota MPV variant for a more premium cabin experience. But if you don’t care about what badge your premium MPV wears, you can stretch all the way to the top-spec Maruti Invicto for the kind of upmarket features that also add some desirable functions.
For another Rs 1.7 lakh, the Invicto Alpha Plus offers a powered tailgate, ventilated front seats, powered driver’s seat with memory function, and leatherette upholstery over the Hycross VX (O) Hybrid.
What Do We Think Then?
The Maruti Invicto Zeta Plus is more affordable and does not miss out on any crucial functions offered on the Toyota Innova Hycross VX Hybrid, while still offering six airbags. Another key advantage for the Maruti MPV is that it has relatively lower waiting times in top metro cities. If pricing is your primary decider here, you’d be fine by picking the Maruti Invicto.
However, if you see added value in the Toyota badge and the brand’s service package, you can spend the extra cash over the Maruti MPV. It also offers a few more premium features for the price premium.
When riding our bikes in the city, it’s acceptable to dress down in terms of gear, provided that we also temper our riding style. This is especially true if your daily commuter is a cruiser or scooter. Oftentimes, we see scooter and cruiser riders hitting the road in much more laid-back attire. That said, this doesn’t mean that gear manufacturers don’t throw in cutting-edge tech when it comes to safety.

In recent years, electric motorcycles have gained popularity not only for scooters and commuters, but also for off-road applications. Electric dirt bikes such as enduros, trail bikes, and motocrossers are especially useful as they solve one of the biggest problems in powersports: noise.
Thanks to advances in electric motor and battery technology, manufacturers are now able to achieve impressive levels of performance from electric motors. One example of this is the Pohlbock eBock2, an electric off-road platform that offers remarkable performance. Created by German enthusiasts Romano Pohl and Florian Bockstaller, the eBock2 is available in three configurations: enduro, motocross, and supermoto.
The eBock2 uses a unique axial flow motor, which offers significantly higher torque output compared to a standard brushless electric motor. This design involves two discs placed side by side, with coils and magnets facing each other to produce thrust. As these discs rotate, they generate a substantial amount of torque. The motor’s benefits include higher energy density, improved cooling, and a narrower profile, making it ideal for motocross and enduro applications.
In terms of performance, the Pohlbock eBock2 boasts power equivalent to that of a 350cc four-stroke machine, delivering 30 kilowatts (41 horsepower). In conclusion, the Pohlbock eBock2 is a cutting-edge electric dirt bike that offers impressive performance. However, all this technology comes at a price. With a starting price of 15,999 Euros, the eBock2 may be a significant investment for enthusiasts. Additionally, the price can increase significantly with the addition of optional features like a fast charger, larger battery, rear braking system, and reverse gear.
Over in the Indian market, Hero MotoCorp is one of the biggest motorcycle manufacturers in terms of sales volumes. In 2022 alone, the motorcycle giant sold more than five million motorcycles. On average, the company has been selling close to half-a-million motorbikes every month in India. More specifically, it sold 519,474 motorcycles in May, 2023, according to data from a Livemint report.
That being said, Hero, being the hero that it is, isn’t immune to issues. On June 15, 2023, anonymous sources told Reuters that India’s Ministry of Corporate Affairs has ordered an investigation be conducted on Hero MotoCorp. Specifically, this involves the brand’s relationship with a third-party vendor, wherein there has been an alleged diversion of funds.
According to the report, the investigation seeks to probe the ownership structure of Hero MotoCorp, and to see whether the company had any control over the third-party vendor. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Corporate Affairs deemed that the investigation be conducted in the “public interest,” given Hero MotoCorp’s high-ranking status in the Indian economy, as well as the global motorcycle industry.
As of this writing, Hero MotoCorp has yet to release a statement about the matter. It did, however, respond to a query by Reuters stating, “We will provide all information, if and when it is sought from us by any regulatory authority.” The investigation was ordered following a preliminary inquiry from India’s Registrar of Companies, and was seen fit for a further, more detailed investigation.
