The Hyundai Nexo demonstrates Hyundai’s dedication to producing environmentally friendly vehicles. It has a starting price of just over $60,000 with an array of features and technologies that make it an attractive hydrogen fuel cell option. Its aerodynamic exterior design not only enhances its sleek and stylish appearance but also contributes to its overall efficiency.
The Nexo’s hydrogen fuel cell system includes an electric motor, providing 161 horsepower to its front-wheel drive system. The highlight is the hydrogen fuel tank that allows it to travel up to 380 miles on a full tank. At its premium price point, it offers a luxury and premium quality interior as standard.
A variety of tech features, including one of the most advanced driver-assistance systems, are available to enhance safety and convenience on the road. Like other comparable SUVs, the Nexo offers ample cargo space in all configurations, providing plenty of room for all your storage needs. However, due to the limited availability of hydrogen fueling infrastructure, improvements are crucial to unlock the potential of the Hyundai Nexo.
To provide up-to-date and accurate information, the data used to compile this article was sourced from various manufacturer websites and authoritative sources, including Car and Driver, Car Figures, Department of Energy, and EPA.
(Prices sourced from official automakers’ websites)
The Hyundai Nexo was actually built to compete with the Hyundai Ioniq 5, and the Kia EV6. Although the Ioniq 5 model with the most range does 51 miles less than the Nexo’s Limited trim, its priciest trim costs $6,785 less than the Nexo’s base trim. For $45,950, you can get a Kia EV6 with a 310-mile range.
10Improvements In The Hydrogen Fuel Cell Infrastructure Needed To Boost Sales
As a result, Hyundai has struggled to sell the Nexo, moving just 430 copies in 2021, dropping to 408 examples in 2022, and selling only 196 copies this year until October. This emphasizes the need for improvements in the hydrogen fuel cell infrastructure. With governments and industry stakeholders working together to expand the network of fuel stations with incentives to spur the growth of FCVs, the true potential of hydrogen will come out as a viable alternative fuel source.
Toyota made its most significant commitment yet at this year’s SEMA show by showcasing an impressive lineup of 19 vehicles.
The Associated Accessories Products (AAP) program expands the customization options for Toyota vehicles, with several AAP-equipped models on display.
Exciting concepts like the Tacoma X-Runner, FJ Bruiser, and FJ Retro Cruiser were unveiled, demonstrating Toyota’s commitment to performance-focused street trucks and off-road adventures.
For this year’s SEMA show, the theme was “Track or Trail, Your Thrill Awaits,” and Toyota showcased some exciting cars that went with the theme. Toyota’s presence at SEMA this year is their most significant commitment yet, featuring an impressive lineup of 19 vehicles. These vehicles included a spirited assembly of GR Special Edition cars, one-off builds of classic Toyota trucks, the new 2024 Tacoma, and the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser. Toyota came to play, both on the road and off. Also on display was Toyota’s latest innovation in seats – the Isodynamic TRD Pro seats.
Also in the line-up are unique vehicles accessorized through the Associated Accessories Products (AAP). The AAP program, originally announced by Toyota and Lexus at last year’s SEMA, brings third-party accessories from brands like ARB, Yakima, and Rigid Industries as options during the purchase process itself. AAP expands the accessories list available for Toyota vehicles, allowing for a wide range of customizations right from the dealership floor. There were several AAP-equipped models on display, including the Tundra SR5, Grand Highlander, and the Sequoia.
Toyota Spellbinds The Crowd With Special SEMA Builds
Tacoma X-Runner Concept
Built exclusively for SEMA by Toyota’s Calty Research Inc., the Tacoma X-Runner Concept build is a striking homage to the original X-Runner. The concept is a slammed Tacoma with a handful of modifications to make it a performance-focused street truck. The build is reminiscent of the performance trucks from the ’90s and 2000s that we all wish would make a comeback.
The X-Runner Concept truck features the Tundra’s twin-turbo 3.4-liter V-6 engine, which produces 421 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque. Another thing the concept gained from the Tundra is its solid axle with a 4.30:1 final drive ratio and an electronically locking differential to split torque to the rear torque.
FJ Bruiser
A badass “King Of The Hammers” inspired rock-crawler built with a 1966 Land Cruiser FJ45 pick-up truck as the base. The only indication that this truck started out as FJ is the vintage body painted in gorgeous turquoise green. The body has been reinforced with a custom tube chassis and roll cage and then placed on massive 42-inch BF Goodrich Krawler T/A KX tires mounted on 20-inch Method Beadlock wheels.
The team also added a trailing arm suspension with Fox shock absorbers and Eibach springs. Under the hood of this hulking behemoth is a modified Nascar engine that produces 725 horsepower, which is mated to a 3-speed automatic transmission. One of the coolest things about the Bruiser is the tank-like tread under the truck, which can be used to get you out of sticky situations. All in all, the FJ Bruiser lives up to its name.
FJ Retro Cruiser
To commemorate the return of the Land Cruiser for the year 2024, Toyota brought out one of their most famous builds ever – the Retro Cruiser. Built on the request of legendary rally driver Rod Millen 25 years ago, the Retro Cruiser was built with a 67’ FJ Cruiser Wagon body with a luxurious interior and enhanced ride comfort. This was achieved by designing a bespoke independent rear suspension system equipped with a coil-over spring/shock assembly.
To accommodate the new suspension system, the team narrowed the stock differential and retained the original brakes and hubs, while also crafting custom uprights. The Retro Cruiser currently rides on unique 17-inch billet wheels fitted with sturdy 35-inch General Tire Grabbers. Additionally, custom skid plates were added underneath, providing an extra layer of protection for off-road adventures.
Blue Beetle Tacoma
Fans of DC would have already seen the new Tacoma in action in the new Blue Beetle live-action movie. Built as a part of the film’s promotion, the Tacoma features a Blue Beetle-themed wrap designed by Warner Bros designers. In addition to the Blue Beetle and the X-Runner version, Toyota displayed seven different builds of the Tacoma, including variants of TrailHunter, TRD Pro, TRD Off-Road, and other accessorized models.
A limited run GR 86 Trueno Edition which features a new performance package consisting of ZF SACHS dampers and Brembo brakes. A tribute to the 1980s AE86, all cars will come with a dual-color black hood and side panel graphic matched with either Halo or Track red. All cars will also have a distinctive TRUENO Edition badge on both the front bumper lip and rear decklid. Exclusive touches comprise 18-inch, 10-spoke aluminum alloy wheels with a black metallic finish. Additionally, black door handles and mirror caps add to their unique aesthetic appeal. Only 860 examples will be made for the US market.
GR Supra 45th Anniversary Edition

Exclusively available in two colour options Mikan Blast, (Mikan translates to orange in Japanese) and Absolute Zero, which is white. The special edition Supra comes with a manually adjustable rear spoiler for customers to tweak with the amount of downforce they would like to experience.

GR86 GR Cup Series
Toyota wrapped up the inaugural season of the GR Cup race series this year and showed off their GR 86 race car. Every car starts as a stock GR 86, which the magicians at Toyota Gazoo Racing North America (TGRNA) work their magic on and transform it into a formidable track weapon. There are a handful of cosmetic and mechanical changes that turn the GR 86 from a hot hatch into a scorching fire-breather.
Toyota Shows Off Their Isodynamic Seats With An Awesome New Video Game
During the event, Toyota unveiled its innovative IsoDynamic Seat at the TRD exhibit. The advantages of this technology were demonstrated through a motion-simulated video game. Developed by Toyota Connected North America (TCNA), the game called “TRD Pro Time Attack” offers a fully immersive experience. Participants had the opportunity to experience firsthand the unique features of the new seats, which will be standard in TRD Pro vehicles. The simulator, reminiscent of arcade gaming setups, featured the new seats installed on a six-degree-of-freedom simulator meticulously designed to replicate real-life off-roading scenarios.
Toyota also demonstrated their new Wireless Trailer Camera System, which is available as standard on the Tundra and Sequoia. Designed to provide drivers with increased visibility and safety via a live feed. Additionally, for the Tundra, Toyota announced the TRD Performance Package, which is a power boost option starting next year. Customers will have the option to increase the power of the Tundra’s turbocharged i-FORCE V-6 engine from 389 horsepower at 5200 RPM and 479 pound-feet at 2400 RPM of torque to 421 horsepower at 5200 RPM and 479 pound-feet of torque at 2000 RPM.
The 2024 Toyota Tacoma Snags The 2023 SEMA Midsize Truck Of The Year Award
SEMA members honored the 2024 Toyota Tacoma with the 2023 SEMA Best Midsize Truck of the Year award. This is Toyota’s second victory in the Best Midsize Truck category in the last three years. This also marks the third consecutive year that Toyota vehicles have been honored, with previous awards including the 2021 Midsize Truck of the Year for Tacoma, 2021 Sport Compact of the Year for GR Supra, and 2022 Sport Compact of the Year for GR86. Additionally, this year, Toyota emerged as a finalist in four distinct vehicle categories for the year 2023.
Other standout Toyota vehicles include the introduction of the new 2024 Land Cruiser models – the Land Cruiser 1958 and the Land Cruiser First Edition. The legendary nameplate makes a comeback to American shores after an absence of three long years. The Land Cruiser 1958, as its name suggests, is a throwback to the vintage Land Cruisers with rounded LED headlights and a ‘Toyota’ heritage grille.
Also on display were the Land Cruiser’s smaller siblings, the 2024 Toyota 4Runner 4×4 TRD Off Road and the 2024 Grand Highlander Hybrid MAX Platinum. All in all, SEMA 2023 gave Toyota fans the chance to feast their eyes on the best that the Japanese brand has to offer, and we can hardly wait to see their highly capable creations finally hit the roads and trails.
France recently banned the iPhone 12 from being sold in the country due to concerns about its radiation levels. Apple, known for its commitment to health and the environment, responded by instructing its employees not to address customer questions about the health risks of the iPhone 12 and to emphasize its safety.
An Apple spokesperson stated that the ban was related to the testing protocol used by French regulators and not due to any safety concerns. The company assured that all its phones, including the iPhone 12, meet the SAR (Specific Absorption Rate) regulations and standards worldwide.
In response to the request made by the French minister, Apple agreed to release a software update to make the iPhone 12 compliant with the SAR testing protocols in France. The conflict arose because France modified its SAR testing protocols in 2020, the same year the iPhone 12 was launched.
To provide some context, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the United States has set a maximum SAR limit of 1.6 W/kg for smartphones, while the European Union (EU) allows up to 2 W/kg. To meet the French regulations, Apple simply needed to update its software to accommodate the changes in the testing protocols and ensure the phone’s radiation safety.

This distinctive color was previously offered as a glimpse of the Acura Precision EV Concept. Furthermore, the ZDX will present the option of the signature Tiger Eye Pearl, which can also be found on models like the Acura TLX Type S, MDX Type S, and Integra Type S.
Inside Acura’s ZDX interior, the cabin is crafted with premium materials, luxurious features, and an array of intuitive technologies. Notably, Acura has seamlessly integrated Google2 into the vehicle, marking a first for the brand, to ensure uninterrupted connectivity while on the move. This integration brings forth familiar applications like Google Assistant, Google Maps, and a variety of options from Google Play. These components collectively contribute to a connected, personalized, and streamlined driving experience that is emblematic of the ZDX.
The ZDX interior contains a combined expanse of 22 inches dedicated to high-definition digital displays. This includes the standard Precision Cockpit Driver Information Cluster, spanning 11 inches, and the Center Information Screen measuring 11.3 inches. Both screens are equipped with an intuitive touchscreen interface, further enhanced by wireless compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto 3. Through the Google built-in system integrated within the ZDX, Google Maps can be displayed on either of these screens, offering advanced route planning capabilities complete with recommendations for charging stations to optimize travel time. Tata’s plan to construct a £4 billion gigafactory holds great potential for boosting electric car manufacturing in the UK, which is much needed.
Tata’s recent announcement of a new 40GWh battery factory expected to be operational by 2026 is a step towards finding a solution to the challenges faced by the industry. However, it is important to note that this is just the beginning, and more actions will be required.
Nevertheless, this development is significant as it brings a glimmer of hope to the otherwise gloomy outlook for car manufacturing in the UK during this era of electric vehicles.
BMW Munich and FC Bayern München Basketball GmbH have joined forces in a mobility partnership, which was officially launched on July 1, 2023. The collaboration aims to provide sustainable transportation solutions for the five-time German champions. At a joint press conference held at the BMW retail outlet in Munich, the partners emphasized their commitment to promoting electric mobility and supporting social initiatives in the local community.
During the event, Bernd Döpke, Head of BMW Munich, handed over the keys to two fully-electric BMW iX cars. One car was given to Marko Pešić, the general manager of FC Bayern München Basketball GmbH, and the other to guard Andreas Obst on behalf of the team. The initiative will enable the basketball players and coaching staff to travel emission-free in the Munich area.
Speaking at the press conference, Döpke highlighted the significant contribution of FC Bayern to the development of basketball in Munich, both nationally and internationally. He also emphasized the shared values of success, dynamism, and the joy of sports that are embodied by both BMW Munich and FC Bayern München Basketball.
Starting from the upcoming season, BMW Park, the home stadium of FC Bayern München Basketball, will become the new venue for home matches. The renaming ceremony took place with Pešić symbolically presenting the keys to Rudi-Sedlmayer Hall, which was constructed in 1972.
Expressing his excitement about the partnership, Pešić expressed his gratitude for BMW’s support and emphasized the advantages of being located in close proximity to the automotive giant. He also emphasized the common goals shared by the two prestigious brands. The partnership aims to solidify FC Bayern München Basketball’s position among the top teams in Europe and attract more fans to the sport. Additionally, the collaboration will extend beyond sports, as both partners are committed to launching and supporting social projects in Munich.
The first matches to be held at BMW Park are scheduled for September 16th and 17th, 2023, as part of a warm-up tournament. The inaugural home match in the BBL league will take place on September 29th, 2023, against the Mitteldeutscher Basketball Club. The joint social initiatives will also commence in the new season, with further details to be announced at a later date.
Volkswagen Group CEO Oliver Blume has reaffirmed the company’s commitment to launch its comprehensive SSP (Scalable Systems Platform) electric architecture in 2026, despite potential delays to 2028/29 that were previously mentioned.
Blume stated that the architecture will cover a wide range of vehicles, from city cars to sports cars, with power exceeding 1700bhp. Initially, VW had planned for the SSP to handle around 1100bhp.
“The SSP architecture will balance the need for scale and standardization with differentiation and speed,” Blume emphasized.
The SSP architecture was initially announced in 2021 with a planned launch date in 2026, starting with Audi’s Artemis project. However, delays, particularly concerning the crucial software 2.0, caused development to be pushed back to 2028/29, as previously stated by executives like VW brand CEO Thomas Schäfer.
VW Group brands will share architecture modules across 40 million vehicles as part of their efforts to standardize parts and increase economies of scale, with the goal of reducing the high price of electric cars. Blume stated that “most” vehicles on the SSP platform will achieve profit margin parity with internal-combustion-engined cars, compared to only “some” on the group’s MEB electric car platform.
“Architectures cover up to 75% of all material costs for BEV, compared to up to 10% for ICE,” Blume explained. “Therefore, architectures are a key driver for profitability in the future.”
One component that will be shared across all models is the planned ‘Unified’ battery cell, which will be manufactured in future VW plants and can accommodate a range of chemistries, including the cost-effective LFP (lithium-iron-phosphate).
Blume also revealed new performance details about SSP cars, including a 10%-80% charging time reduced to an average of 12 minutes, compared to the existing 35 minutes for MEB models. Additionally, the software 2.0 and electronic architecture will enable hands-free driving up to level four.

Munich. Among the many players doing their practice rounds at the BMW International Open on the perfectly manicured Championship Course at Golfclub München Eichenried today were two athletes that usually play on a different lawn: The two Champions League winners Thomas Müller (GER) and Gareth Bale (WAL) played a round of nine holes with title holder Haotong Li (CHN) and the best-placed German in the world rankings, Yannik Paul.
Afterwards, the group marked the symbolic start to “Eagles for Education”. The BMW Group is donating the first 10,000 euros to the tournament charity on behalf of the famous athletes.
The long-term charity campaign “Eagles for Education” is making its debut at the BMW International Open in 2023. The BMW Group will donate 1,000 euros for every eagle achieved during the tournament. This sees BMW intensify its long-standing commitment to education and future opportunities for everyone. The money will go to the organisations “JOBLINGE” and “Kick ins Leben”, with which the BMW Group has been working for many years.
BMW organizes the BMW International Open from 21st to 25th June 2023 at Golfclub München Eichenried.
