STEM-related jobs are the engine of global economic growth, yet millions of these jobs are projected to go unfilled due to a gap in skills. The problem is more acute in low- and middle-income countries and much more prevalent among girls and women. Today, women constitute a minority in both STEM education and careers, representing only 28 per cent of engineering graduates, 22 per cent of artificial intelligence workers and less than one third of tech sector employees globally.

Following the launch of the collaboration between the BMW Group and UNICEF in South Africa in 2023, the partnership will be expanded in 2024 to Brazil, China, India, Mexico and Thailand – all of which have programme needs and have BMW Group presence. The collaboration will support programmes ranging from providing laboratory equipment to developing a customized teacher training curriculum, and from mentorships to job-shadowing. With this in mind, the BMW Group is not only providing financial support amounting to two million euros each year until 2030, but also contributing its own expertise and network.
In addition, in 2024, the BMW Group will join forces with its global network of affiliates and with the involvement of stakeholders to raise funds to support the UNICEF’s work in emergencies and protracted crisis thereby ensuring continuity of children’s learning in safe environments.

On October 7, 2023, Triumph Motorcycles and Akrapovič announced a new long-term partnership that would have the exhaust specialist develop new performance-oriented exhaust systems for Triumph’s motorcycles. According to the press release, the new exhaust systems will be featured on Triumph’s Adventure and Roadster models – presumably the Tiger 900 and 1200, as well as the Street and Speed Triples.
Akrapovič is well-known for its high-performance exhaust systems that have been developed and proven on the race track. The brand has a strong presence in both MotoGP and Dakar Rally, making it the prominent exhaust system manufacturer in the industry. The Triumph Tiger 900 and 1200 are known for their advanced technology and performance in the adventure bike segment. These bikes compete with some of the most powerful adventure motorcycles in the market. Similarly, the Triumph Street Triple and Speed Triple models are acclaimed for their impressive performance as naked sportbikes. Alongside Triumph’s Adventure and Roadster lineup, the partnership between Triumph and Akrapovič will also involve collaboration on “special projects.” While the nature of these projects is not specified, it is possible that they could lead to special-edition versions of certain Triumph models in the future.
The collaboration between Triumph and Akrapovič initially began on the race track, where Akrapovič supplied exhaust systems for Triumph’s powerful 765cc three-cylinder engine. This engine is still being used in Moto2 racing machines and is expected to continue until 2029. Currently, the Triumph Street Triple RS equipped with the 765cc engine produces 128 horsepower and 59 pound-feet of torque. It is estimated that the Moto2 configuration of these engines can deliver even more power, reaching approximately 140 horsepower.
Triumph Motorcycles CEO, Nick Bloor, expressed that the partnership with Akrapovič would expand the range of genuine products offered by the brand. Bloor stated, “This collaboration is about offering our customers even more choice by extending our range of genuine Triumph accessories. Working with Akrapovič to develop new exhaust systems for our upcoming models, we can give riders the opportunity to enhance the response and feel of their new Triumph motorcycle, knowing that the two have been developed side by side.”
Darvin Dobočnik, the CEO of Akrapovič, also commented on the collaboration, saying, “As a company, we are delighted to be entering into this new collaboration with Triumph. We are honored to cooperate with such an iconic brand with a huge heritage. BMW and Frieze are partnering for the seventh year in a row for the art initiative BMW Open Work. The French artist Sara Sadik has collaborated closely with BMW to present “LA POTION (EH)” – a video and gaming experience that uses BMW’s My Modes and the new AirConsole technology of the BMW i5 as a playing device. The premiere will take place at KOKO inside the BMW Open Work Lounge during Frieze London from October 11-15, 2023. As part of the collaboration, London-based musician Loyle Carner will perform at Frieze Music.
BMW Open Work is a joint initiative between Frieze and BMW that brings together art, innovation, technology, and design in a multi-platform format. Curated by Attilia Fattori Franchini, BMW Open Work invites an artist to develop a project using BMW technology and design. This year, French artist Sara Sadik has been invited to create an ambitious project that combines video games, anime, science fiction, and French rap. The project is inspired by the idea of characters facing challenges and seeking transformation through initiatory stories.
Sara Sadik describes her BMW Open Work 2023 commission as a work that aims to have transformational qualities for its viewers. The video and playable game, titled “LA POTION (EH)”, explore the emotional states of young male characters. The BMW i5 is treated as a character, with the Avatar Neregy using it to explore different worlds in both the video game and video. The work will be displayed outside of KOKO during Frieze Week and played exclusively in the car.
“LA POTION (EH)” is an interactive video game that can be played exclusively in the new BMW i5. It is also presented as a video installation on the terrace of KOKO and inside the BMW Lounge. The viewer follows the Avatar Neregy as he navigates different worlds, completes tasks, and faces challenges in his quest for psychological healing and transformation.

The commission for Frieze London features an interactive playable game specifically designed for the new fully electric BMW i5 in collaboration with BMW Gaming and Innovation Lab experts. In addition, a video will be presented on the exterior of KOKO and at the BMW Lounge. The BMW i5 designers will work alongside Sadik to ensure the technical aspects of the game and enhance the gaming experience in the car through sound and light.
Titled LA POTION (EH), Sadik’s commission explores changing emotional states of young male characters through computer-generated scenarios. Her world-building approach visualizes their emotions while examining the construction and performance of masculinity, its ethical and moral codes, and its broader implications for societal structures.
Sadik follows in the footsteps of previous BMW Open Work artists including Nikita Gale (2022), Madeline Hollander (2020-21), Camille Blatrix (2019), Sam Lewitt (2018), and Olivia Erlanger (2017).
