YouTube Starts Global Crackdown on Ad Blockers

On October 13, the developers of AdBlock Plus were unable to provide a solution for YouTube’s new problem, according to a blog post on their website. As for uBlock Origin, users on Reddit have reported that the Firefox version of the extension still functions, but it is advised to regularly update the extension and its blocklist to ensure effectiveness. The Reddit post also mentions that YouTube updates their detection scripts twice a day, so users should be prepared for frequent filter updates.

Another post on Reddit suggests that uBlock Origin is also effective at blocking ads on the Brave browser, including the mobile version. The same post recommends using NewPipe for Android, a free and open-source app that provides an ad-free YouTube experience. However, it is important to download NewPipe from official sources such as their website or pages on GitHub or F-Droid, as versions on the Google Play Store may contain advertisements.

For desktop users, there is a workaround discovered by AI developer Shanaj Raj. By requesting the video’s embed code through the Share menu, users can access an ad-free version of the video on a per-video basis. It is important to note that these workarounds are unofficial and may cease to work at any moment. The most reliable way to enjoy an ad-free experience on YouTube is through a Premium subscription.

Watch This Small See-Through Engine Fire Up And Run

In a previous experiment, the Garage 54 YouTube channel placed a transparent head on top of an engine to provide a clear view of the combustion process. Now, the channel is back with another transparent resin experiment, this time building an entire engine block out of the see-through material.

The previous attempt resulted in the engine exploding at startup. To prevent this, Garage 54 redesigned a new block to act as a spacer between the cylinder head and the crankshaft. The goal was to eliminate any direct load on the block beyond the combustion process in the chamber. The new block was slightly taller and aimed to reduce compression.

The first startup of the modified engine showed promise, with spark and no catastrophic failure. However, the second attempt encountered some issues. One of the cylinders experienced combustion, but it occurred too late when the cylinder was at top dead center. This caused the block to crack along the bottom. Despite this setback, the experiment continued.

The team made adjustments to the timing and attempted to start the engine again. This time, the engine truly started and ran. The slow-motion camera captured every cylinder firing in exquisite detail. The engine ran for a fourth time, but the block started to break down, with the crack along the bottom expanding along its entire length.

Due to the high heat generated, the engine only ran for a few seconds at a time before starting to deteriorate. The transparent cylinder head from the previous year immediately showed signs of degradation, with bubbles and imperfections forming in the material due to the extreme temperatures.

The objective of this experiment was not to determine the longevity of the engine, but rather to test if a transparent engine block could start. In that regard, it was a resounding success for the Garage 54 team, which has been known for their innovative creations over the years.

YouTube Introduces Several New Features, Including an Audio Stabilizer

YouTube is adding a feature inspired by one of Google Assistant’s lesser-known capabilities. Users will be able to sing or hum a song and YouTube will identify it for them. To use this feature, users need to hum for at least three seconds. Initially, this feature will be available on Android, with a rollout planned in the coming weeks. In the meantime, users can use Google Assistant for this purpose, as it usually directs users to YouTube’s music and video platforms for results.

Here’s an example of the feature in action:

Furthermore, YouTube is redesigning the “You” page, which can be accessed through the profile icon in the bottom right corner of the screen. Instead of text-based controls, the page will now display rows of video thumbnails labeled as history, playlist, etc. This new design makes it easier for users to find their liked, saved, playlisted, or watched videos from the past (assuming they have enabled watch history).

In addition, YouTube is introducing a dedicated tab for creators to showcase their social links, as well as improving the TV interface with separate windows for action buttons, video descriptions, chapters, and comments. These changes will eventually be implemented on mobile and web platforms.

Watch: More Adventure-Style Motorcycle Mounting Methods

In a recent YouTube video, Bret Tkacs shares his expertise with adventure riders by discussing different methods for mounting a motorcycle. Tkacs is known for providing valuable advice and information to adventure riders through his YouTube channel and articles.

In this particular video, Tkacs focuses on the task of mounting a motorcycle, which can be more challenging for adventure riders who often carry a lot of gear. With items such as GIVI top boxes, Kriega luggage, and hard side cases, it can become difficult to mount the bike, especially with a passenger or on uneven terrain.

Tkacs suggests a clever technique for mounting the bike on the side opposite of the side stand to prevent it from sinking into soft ground. By shifting your weight forward and using your knee to stabilize the bike, you can successfully mount it on gravel, sand, or mud. Additionally, Tkacs explains how to use this technique on the side with the stand to prevent overloading the stand and appearing inexperienced.

For riders with a passenger, Tkacs introduces a unique approach. Instead of the rider mounting first followed by the passenger, Tkacs suggests having the passenger get on the bike first, using the driver’s seat for support. Once the passenger is securely in place, the driver can then mount the bike. This alternative method allows the passenger to freely move around and find their position on the pillion seat before the driver boards.

2024 Royal Enfield Himalayan Pre-Production Bike Tested by Itchy Boots

Itchy Boots, a moto traveler and YouTuber, recently made it to Ladakh in the northernmost part of India after a brief delay caused by an injury. While on her travels, she took the opportunity to test ride a pre-production 2024 Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 or 452. Although the exact naming convention is still up for debate, the bike is set to be officially launched in November.

Currently, Itchy Boots hasn’t been provided with any official specifications for the bike and has agreed to withhold her full riding impressions until later in her series. However, she does share some important observations about the bike in the video.

The video provides a comprehensive look at the bike and offers more insights than the previously released teaser images. The graphic scheme on the pre-production bike is the same as the one seen in the photos and has received positive reviews. The tank design is curvier and chunkier compared to the previous Himalayan model.

The cockpit features a single large, round gauge that displays all the essential rider information. Unlike previous models, the Tripper Navigation system is now integrated into the main gauge. The navigation section takes up about two-thirds of the screen, while the rest displays speed, gear indicator, and tachometer. It’s uncertain whether the gauge is configurable to suit individual preferences.

The new Himalayan’s single-cylinder engine delivers an impressive sound. Although Itchy Boots can’t disclose the exact power, she mentions that it feels more powerful than the previous model. As someone who has extensively traveled on a first-gen Royal Enfield Himalayan, she is well-suited to test the new bike’s capabilities. She also notes that the suspension handles the weight of both herself and her luggage well on the mountain roads, including paved and off-road sections.

We eagerly await Itchy Boots’ further adventures with this bike and her real-world performance assessment. Meanwhile, enjoy the clear sound of the engine thumping away in the video.

Restoration of a Yamaha TownMate T90: Transforming a Neglected Bike

The YouTube channel Restoration of Everything specializes in finding rundown bikes in need of some care. Although the channel’s name suggests a focus on sad projects, the process and end results are still satisfying.

One recent restoration project featured an extremely dirty Yamaha TownMate T90 that had clearly seen better days. Judging by the amount of debris surrounding the bike, it had likely been sitting outside for quite some time.

However, the RoE crew took on the challenge and started the restoration process. Despite the lightweight nature of the original TownMate T90, weighing around 222 pounds, this particular bike was missing its seat and likely even lighter. To ensure safety, the crew didn’t rely on just one person to lift it.

Once they brought the bike back to the garage, they began disassembling it to assess the condition. Inside the underbone frame, they found both the wiring harness and a colony of ants curiously emerging (although there could have been worse surprises in a tropical climate).

Unperturbed by the ants, the team calmly dismantled the bike and got to work. They drained the dirty engine oil, fortunately finding no major metal chunks or shavings. Some seized bolts required drilling, but eventually, everything was dismantled for thorough cleaning and examination.

While the engine wasn’t in terrible shape, the cylinder showed enough wear to necessitate a rebore. The team obtained the necessary replacement parts, including some OEM Honda components. After reassembling the engine with proper lubrication, they continued with the restoration process.

Working on the frame, they addressed some rusted metal parts that needed attention. By carefully removing the paint and identifying the areas requiring work, they cut out the damaged sections and skillfully welded in replacement pieces. The next steps included applying body filler, sanding, priming, and painting. Before adding a clear coat, they secured replacement Yamaha TownMate T90 decals.

Although they successfully repaired the steel frame, the plastic leg shield was beyond salvageable. The crew sourced replacement parts to properly rectify that issue and address any other irreparable components. Since the bike was missing a seat, they also acquired a brand new one.

At the end of the project, the once-neglected TownMate T90 had been transformed into a restored and refreshed bike that was ready for a trip to the shops or a ride around town. It now served as a simple and charming means of transportation, saved from becoming scrap thanks to the dedicated efforts of the restoration crew.

Take a Tour of the New Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale Supercar with its Designer

In this video from the Harry’s Garage YouTube channel, Harry Metcalfe, a former editor of UK’s Evo magazine, gets an exclusive tour of the new Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale with Design Project Manager Alessandro Maccolini.

Metcalfe starts the tour by showcasing the original 33 Stradale, of which only 18 were made. Although the company originally intended to produce 50 examples, only 18 were ever manufactured. These iconic cars featured a 2.0-liter V8 engine that produced maximum power at 8,800 rpm, and it was positioned behind the driver’s head. It is worth noting that some variants of the original 33 Stradale had different styling, such as single or stacked headlights.
