What Is V-Sync, And Should You Turn It Off?

The brief reply as as to if or not it is best to flip V-Sync off is that it is determined by a number of components — however most likely sure. It feels like a helpful function that smooths out your PC’s show, which very effectively would be the case. However, it may additionally negatively influence your total efficiency by limiting your framerate and inflicting enter lag.

No two PCs are the identical, so the easiest way to determine whether or not or not you want V-Sync is to check it in your machine. Turn V-Sync on should you discover frequent display screen tearing when gaming or utilizing different 3D functions, whatever the {hardware} you are working with. On the opposite hand, flip V-Sync off when you’ve got it enabled and also you’re noticing extreme enter lag or lower-than-normal framerates.

However, chances are high that you just need not have V-Sync turned on. Screen tearing occurs when video games and functions run at a better framerate than your monitor can deal with. However, most of at this time’s screens, notably gaming screens, have excessive refresh charges. It’s not unusual to see screens with 144Hz, 160Hz, and even 240Hz refresh charges.

If you will have a high-refresh-rate monitor, it is best to flip V-Sync off as a result of your monitor can deal with the frames, so the one factor V-Sync is doing is limiting your framerate. However, when you’ve got a low refresh price monitor, V-Sync is a useful instrument for lowering display screen tearing, so it is best to flip it on or look into utilizing an identical function like Nvidia G-Sync.

Finally: new security guidelines recognise that buttons beat touchscreens

To my aid, it appears like the reply to the query “is it just me?” isn’t any.

Too many automobiles in current instances have had me despairing on the variety of controls which have migrated away from bodily buttons and onto touchscreens.

In some circumstances that is barely annoying; in others I imagine it’s borderline harmful. Now the influential automotive security ranking organisation Euro NCAP has determined that, from 2026, it’ll award five-star rankings solely to automobiles that retain bodily controls for key options.

To qualify, a automotive will need to have buttons, stalks or dials for its indicators, windscreen wipers, hazard warning lights, horn and SOS perform. This record of things is welcome however not as exhaustive as I would really like.

You must be some form of psychopath to not need these controls instantly accessible the place they all the time are, wouldn’t you?

Given that only some automotive makers have moved any wiper exercise from bodily controls and, to my data, solely Tesla has made the baffling and idiotic resolution to place indicators on clean, unfeelable and shifting buttons (on a steering-wheel spoke within the newest Tesla Model 3), this resolution ought to forestall extra mission creep however largely units the bounds at the place we are actually.

I would like Euro NCAP to ask that issues which can be changing into widespread be undone.

The Volvo EX30, for instance, which final 12 months drove me to distraction by having no bodily controls for its door mirrors, wiper sensitivity, local weather management (excluding a roof-mounted and never feelably delineated demister button), lights (together with the foglight) or driver help techniques, nor a rapidly turnable/pushable quantity management, may nonetheless qualify for 5 Euro NCAP stars. I needed to burn it.

YouTube Starts Global Crackdown on Ad Blockers

On October 13, the developers of AdBlock Plus were unable to provide a solution for YouTube’s new problem, according to a blog post on their website. As for uBlock Origin, users on Reddit have reported that the Firefox version of the extension still functions, but it is advised to regularly update the extension and its blocklist to ensure effectiveness. The Reddit post also mentions that YouTube updates their detection scripts twice a day, so users should be prepared for frequent filter updates.

Another post on Reddit suggests that uBlock Origin is also effective at blocking ads on the Brave browser, including the mobile version. The same post recommends using NewPipe for Android, a free and open-source app that provides an ad-free YouTube experience. However, it is important to download NewPipe from official sources such as their website or pages on GitHub or F-Droid, as versions on the Google Play Store may contain advertisements.

For desktop users, there is a workaround discovered by AI developer Shanaj Raj. By requesting the video’s embed code through the Share menu, users can access an ad-free version of the video on a per-video basis. It is important to note that these workarounds are unofficial and may cease to work at any moment. The most reliable way to enjoy an ad-free experience on YouTube is through a Premium subscription.

New Hero Destini Prime Offers Affordable Mobility For Indian Commuters

What makes the ideal commuter motorcycle? Clearly, this answer depends on what it is you’re looking for in a commuter. In the context of the Asian market, particularly India, a commuter has to be affordable, dependable, and easy to ride. No wonder barebones entry-level scooters are so popular here. A good example of this is the Hero Destini Prime, the most affordable scooter in Hero’s Destini model range.

With a price tag of just Rs 71,499, or about $865 USD, the Hero Destini Prime is accessible to most Indian commuters. It’s the base model in Hero’s Destini scooter range, so it does away with some of the premium features found in its siblings. For example, it doesn’t get an LED headlight, but instead, features a simple halogen headlight sans any chrome trim pieces around it. Furthermore, at the back of the scooter, the Destini Prime doesn’t get a backrest like that of the Xtec. Instead, it gets passenger grab handles, facilitating quick dismounts for passengers, as well as the ability to tie luggage onto the back seat.

With a tiny 124.6cc, air-cooled, fuel-injected, single-cylinder engine, the little scooter makes just nine horsepower and about seven pound-feet of torque. Nevertheless, it claims an impressive 56 kilometers per liter, or about 132 miles per gallon. Underpinnings are equally barebones, with drum brakes fore and aft bringing the scooter to a stop. Basic telescopic forks and a rear monoshock supply damping duties.

As mentioned earlier, the Hero Destini Prime is sold at the low price of just Rs 71,499, or about $865 USD. Its low price plus affordable maintenance and fuel efficiency will surely be appreciated by those on a budget looking for a simple, no-frills everyday commuter. Hero MotoCorp offers the Destini Prime in three colors consisting of Pearl Silver White, Nexus Blue, and Nobel Red.

Is There A Better Time Of Year To Buy A New Laptop?

When is the best time to buy a new laptop? The answer is simple: during the same time when other items have the best deals. Just like TVs, Instant Pots, and game consoles, laptops are often part of the promotions during Thanksgiving and its adjacent events like Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and Cyber Week. Another good time to buy is during Amazon’s Prime Day, which happens every July.

While the term “Black Friday” is commonly associated with the idea of post-Thanksgiving sales bringing retailers’ profits “into the black,” its original meaning in the 1980s was to signify the chaos of the day, with many retail workers calling in sick to avoid the crowds.

Last year, there were significant laptop discounts during Black Friday, including a 20% discount on a MacBook Pro, a 33% discount on a Microsoft Surface Pro 8, and an impressive 45% discount on a Gigabyte G5 MD gaming laptop. Cyber Monday also offered more gaming laptop deals three days later. Overall, it is the most opportune time of the year to find discounted MacBooks below Apple’s retail prices.

During the 2023 Prime Day, the base M1 MacBook Air was reduced from $999.99 to $749.99. Although this deal was part of a special event, it has continued to be available afterwards.
