The boost in power compared to the previous CR-V means a more assured acceleration feel and improved responsiveness, with 0-100 km/h (62mph) acceleration taking from just nine seconds for 2WD models and 9.4 seconds for AWD variants, before heading on to a top speed of 194km/h (121 mph) for 2WD, and 187 km/h (116 mph) for AWD models.

Despite the gains in performance, the e:HEV system also offers increased levels of efficiency and a reduction in emissions with Combined CO2 as little as 134g/KM and just 5.9l/100km (40mpg) for 2WD models, and 151g/KM and 6.7l/100km (35 mpg) for the AWD.

e:PHEV

Building on the proven basis of Honda’s e:HEV powertrain, the plug-in e:PHEV features a significantly larger 17.7kWh battery and a lightweight, high-output on-board electric charger. This increased electrical assistance means the engine speed can be kept much lower than before, further improving noise levels, refinement, and fuel efficiency at a variety of speeds. It also allows for an EV-only range of 82km (51 miles).

The increased electrical assistance offered by the plug-in hybrid system means that efficiency and consumption figures are just 18g/km and 0.8l/100km with a fully charged battery. When the battery is completely depleted, these figures will only increase marginally as the vehicle becomes a traditional hybrid, offering comparable performance to the 2WD e:HEV variant.

The charging port is located on the lefthand front fender and is opened by pressing the charge port lid. For the e:PHEV, the charging control in conjunction with the battery warmer allows to better deal with colder environments and also significantly improves recuperation capability at lower temperatures. When the battery temperature is 25 degrees, the latest CR-V achieves a 100% state of charge in just 2.5 hours, thanks to the 6.8 kW charger output.

As part of the connected services offered on the e:PHEV, users can select a range of preconditioning and climate functions when charging to further improve efficiencies, reduce costs and increase comfort in all weathers. These functions include a timer, as well as temperature and operation time settings, meaning CR-V owners can schedule charging for the cheapest and most convenient times, and have the car automatically adjusted to the desired temperature before they walk out of their house to the car.

The all-new CR-V has been engineered to achieve industry-leading safety performance and is the first European vehicle to feature Honda’s most advanced suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Technologies (ADAS) – Honda SENSING 360.

Advanced driver assist and advanced accident-avoidance functions alleviate the burden of driving and, when coupled with a stronger body construction, offer industry-leading active safety performance and outstanding protection in the event of an accident.

The exceptionally strong, rigid, and stiff platform provides the foundation for exceptional safety performance, incorporating new structural components for improved front, rear and side collision protection. The e:PHEV features an additional floor cross member for increased protection of the IPU and passengers in the event of a side impact.

There are eleven airbags in this latest model, including a new front center airbag to prevent a collision between the driver and front passenger, and a new knee airbag for both the driver and front passenger.

Honda SENSING 360 features a 100° forward-facing camera, millimeter-wave radar, and four corner radars to offer a complete 360° view around the vehicle. Object recognition by image, via the CR-V’s updated front camera, and object detection by radar, allows the vehicle to identify road lines, verges, motorcycles, cyclists, and other vehicles.

The fitment of the Honda SENSING 360 enables a range of new and updated features that provide an extra level of safety and convenience for the driver.

Included for the first time in any Honda model is Front Cross Traffic Warning, which reduces head-on collisions at intersections with poor visibility. The system informs the driver of vehicles to the left or right when moving off after a stop and when at low speed.

An advanced Traffic Sign Recognition System detects and recognizes road signs and displays them on the instrument binnacle behind the steering wheel, as well as on the Heads-Up Display, working in conjunction with the Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) to offer one-touch speed adjustment to specific speed limits. DTM: Sheldon van der Linde and René Rast secure top-ten finishes in a challenging weekend.

The sixth DTM race weekend at the Sachsenring was a test of determination for the BMW M Motorsport teams and drivers. The track layout was not favorable to the BMW M4 GT3, and its classification also hindered podium finishes. Sheldon van der Linde had the best result for BMW M Motorsport, finishing sixth on Saturday. His teammate, René Rast, secured eighth place in both races. Sheldon van der Linde (#1 BMW M4 GT3, Schubert Motorsport): “Physically, I’m okay, and that’s the most important thing after my accident. It will be extremely challenging to defend my title, but I won’t give up. We’ve been strong at the Red Bull Ring in the past, so I’m hoping for much better results there.”

René Rast (#33 BMW M4 GT3, Schubert Motorsport): “Unfortunately, it was a very challenging weekend for us. We had already feared as much after the Friday practice sessions. The BMW M4 GT3 was unable to match the speed of the front-runners here. In Sunday’s qualifying, I actually had a good lap, but still had about a one-second deficit. That says it all. I managed to gain some positions in the races starting from the back, but it’s simply not enough for the front.”

Marco Wittmann (#11 BMW M4 GT3, Project 1): “Since we couldn’t test at the Sachsenring beforehand, we had a lack of experience from the beginning, especially since I’ve never raced at the Sachsenring before. Additionally, we had a technical issue in the first practice session, costing us valuable test kilometers. The lack of experience was particularly evident in the qualifying sessions. In the races, I managed to make up some positions and earn points on Sunday. Given the circumstances, it’s a decent result for this weekend, but it’s not my overall expectation. I hope that at the remaining weekends at Spielberg and Hockenheim, where we have more experience, we’ll perform better and potentially achieve a highlight this season.”

BMW M Motorsport Teams Miss Podium at Nürburgring

The BMW M Motorsport teams concluded an impressive series of podium finishes at the Nürburgring in the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe. In the 6th event of the season, none of the BMW M4 GT3 cars made it to the top 3 in the overall standings for the first time this season. In previous races, the teams had secured wins and podium finishes, but this time, the best result was a 7th place finish.

In challenging weather conditions, the WRT drivers Charles Weerts, Dries Vanthoor, and Sheldon van der Linde started 17th on the grid but fought their way up to 7th place. The BMW Junior Team, consisting of Dan Harper, Max Hesse, and Neil Verhagen, also showed a strong performance by moving up from 31st to 11th place.

On the other hand, the Spa winners Philipp Eng, Marco Wittmann, and Nick Yelloly had an unfortunate race. Wittmann faced multiple incidents, including being boxed in and colliding with a spinning Lamborghini. As a result, their car suffered damage, and they finished in 15th place. This loss in points cost them the lead in the overall standings for the Endurance Cup.

BMW Motorrad Motorsport made significant progress at the sixth round of the 2023 FIM Superbike World Championship at Donington Park. Scott Redding and the ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team achieved a top-four finish at their home race. Garrett Gerloff and the Bonovo action BMW Racing Team also performed well. However, the positive results were overshadowed by a serious accident involving Tom Sykes, Loris Baz, and Michael Ruben Rinaldi. Sykes suffered multiple rib fractures and is currently undergoing further examination at the hospital.

In the Superpole qualifying session on Saturday morning, Sykes was the highest-placed BMW rider in eighth position. Gerloff finished in tenth place, Redding in twelfth, and Baz in fifteenth. In the first race on Saturday afternoon, Redding overtook Sykes just before the finish line, securing eighth position. Sykes finished behind in ninth place. Unfortunately, Gerloff and Baz had to retire due to a crash and a technical issue, respectively.

In the Superpole race on Sunday, Gerloff improved to seventh place, and Redding finished ninth. Sykes crashed on the penultimate lap but managed to finish in 18th position. Baz also had an early fall but crossed the finish line in 23rd place. In the second main race, Redding climbed up to fourth place and defended it until the end, securing his best result of the season. Gerloff finished ninth.

The next round of the WorldSBK 2023 will take place in Imola, Italy, from July 14th to 16th.

The ABK Beer 0% BMW F 900 R Cup also took place at Donington Park as part of the WorldSBK support programme. The cup features highly competitive racing with identical BMW F 900 R Roadster bikes. Richard Cooper and Nikki Coates were among the winners in the races held over the weekend.

BMW Motorrad Motorsport Director, Marc Bongers, reflected on the mixed emotions of the weekend and wished a speedy recovery to Sykes and Rinaldi. Redding expressed his satisfaction with his performance, and Gerloff shared his positive experience in the Superpole race. Baz expressed disappointment but remained determined for future races.

BMW Motorrad Motorsport ready for the WorldSBK weekend at Donington Park – Home round for the ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team.

The FIM Superbike World Championship (WorldSBK) returns to historic ground. The sixth round of the 2023 season will take place at Donington Park (GBR), where the first WorldSBK race was held in 1988, from June 30 to July 2. The circuit near Nottingham (GBR) is also a special place for BMW Motorrad Motorsport. Several significant successes have been celebrated there in the past. It is also the home race for the ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team, as well as Scott Redding (GBR) and Tom Sykes (GBR), who will once again stand in for injured Michael van der Mark (NED) this weekend.

The Bonovo action BMW Racing Team aims to continue its momentum from Misano four weeks ago (ITA) at Donington Park. At the beginning of race week, the entire team gathers at their headquarters in Guisborough (GBR), about two and a half hours’ drive from the race circuit. “Our team is based in the north of England, and after we set off for the first European event, all the trucks, equipment, bikes, and so on return to the UK for the first time. We’re practically on the road all year round,” explained Team Principal Shaun Muir. “After the races at Misano and before the races at Imola, this is the only time we have all the equipment here. It’s a good time to pack the trucks with new equipment, and we have the opportunity to prepare the bikes here in our workshop instead of doing it at the track on a Wednesday and Thursday. Here, we have several days and a suitable environment to get everything ready for Donington Park.” The 17,000-inhabitant town of Guisborough is Shaun Muir’s hometown. The team’s headquarters was established in 2002 and has been developed there since.

In addition to the core team permanently based in Guisborough, the days leading up to the race weekend at Donington Park provide an opportunity for the international team to come together. “Our team members mainly have the chance to meet during race weekends. Our mechanics come from all over Europe, from the UK, Portugal, France, Poland, and so on and now they all gather here with us. It’s really like a big team get-together,” said Muir.

Now everything is prepared, the trucks have arrived at Donington from Guisborough, and the race weekend can begin. It’s a track that team manager Muir finds exciting not only because it’s the home track: “I think what’s really special about Donington is that it’s a motorcycle track through and through. It has always been on the WorldSBK calendar; that’s where it all started. Personally, I really like the circuit, and all the riders I speak to feel the same way. I believe that Donington Park is one of the top-three tracks for almost all riders, from the past and the present. It’s a real attraction. So, I’m really looking forward to it.”

Marc Bongers, BMW Motorrad Motorsport Director: “After a four-week break, we are now continuing with three race weekends within five weeks. We want to start this series of events at Donington Park, Imola, and Most in the best possible way. We have very good memories associated with Donington Park. It’s where we celebrated our first WorldSBK victory in 2012, and also after our factory comeback in 2019, we had successful outings at this circuit. The goal, of course, is to continue this trend. The track has been resurfaced, and in the initial practice sessions, we will see how it affects the handling and setup work. In any case, we are looking forward to exciting races at the historic Donington Park circuit and working hard to close in on the front.”

Garrett Gerloff, #31 BMW M 1000 RR, Bonovo action BMW Racing Team: “I’m really looking forward to Donington Park this weekend. It’s a track where I had success in the past and so did BMW, so hopefully we can have a good weekend and find a setup quickly. It’s going to be slightly different because there’s new asphalt, but I think that’s good for us. We’ll see how it goes. I’m definitively looking forward to it.”

Scott Redding, #45 BMW M 1000 RR, ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team: “I’m looking forward to my home round at Donington Park. Last year, it went well there for us and I would like to achieve similar results this time. That would be great in front of my home crowd. There is a new track surface so we need to see how that reacts with the tyres.”

Tom Sykes, #66 BMW M 1000 RR, ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team: “I am very much looking forward to Donington Park. It’s my home race and a circuit that I enjoy. It’s also the home race for the ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team. Not only that, on the BMW in the past I’ve had some success there so we have that in mind and with what we learnt at Misano we can hopefully make the base setting of the BMW M 1000 RR a bit more suited to me. I’ve had a good chat with my crew-chief Marcus Eschenbacher in between with some ideas for Donington so I am really looking forward to the possibilities. We’ve also had some fantastic weather here in the UK and if that can continue into the weekend, I can imagine that it can provide excellent racing for the fans. Fingers crossed for a successful weekend.”

Loris Baz, #76 BMW M 1000 RR, Bonovo action BMW Racing Team: “It’s been quite a long time since Misano, but Misano was the first race where I was feeling good on the bike and not riding in pain, so it’s definitely a big improvement for me to be able to ride like this. I had a good three, four weeks to train even more. I’m back at 100 % now, so I’m really looking forward to this round. I love the Donington track! I hope we have more luck than at Misano where we had some issues. I’m confident of finally ride pain-free and enjoying riding the bike. Let’s see if the new Donington surface brings us luck.”
