Semi-Truck Drag Racing: An Unexpected and Thrilling Spectacle

Semi-trucks are typically associated with hauling heavy loads on highways, not with high speed and rapid acceleration. However, in the world of drag racing, these massive machines defy expectations. With tuned engines, they emit clouds of black smoke as they tear down the track.

In a 40-minute video dedicated to semi-truck drag racing, viewers are treated to a variety of thrilling runs. While it’s best to scrub through the entire video to see the wide array of trucks on display, there are a few highlights to look out for.

One exciting moment occurs around eight minutes and 33 seconds when semi-trucks pulling trailers engage in a drag race. These big rigs haul three bundles of logs weighing multiple tons. The twist in this run is that the truck on the left generates so much torque that the hood visibly twists.

Another notable run takes place at 18:11, where a semi-truck on the left flexes and twists as it leaves the starting line. Both competitors release a substantial amount of black smoke as they cover the distance.

If you’re interested in witnessing particularly fast runs, skip to 21:33 or 35:36 in the video. While the exact quarter-mile times of these trucks are not provided, they appear to be much quicker than the other runs in the clip.

In addition to the intense races, the sound these trucks produce is worth mentioning. Equipped with big turbos to boost their performance, they emit a whistling sound that resembles a jet flying down the track.

One of the most eye-catching rigs appears at 27:41. This truck features a large turbo inlet protruding from its hood and an orange flame paint scheme. With the exhaust positioned in front of the passenger side of the windshield, it is impossible to miss. This truck makes multiple appearances throughout the video.

Who Makes Ryobi Power Tools? And How Good Are They Really?

Ryobi power tools may not have the same reputation for quality and durability as some of TTI’s other brands. However, they have received mostly positive reviews from both consumers and professionals. The Ryobi 18V 6-tool combo kit, for example, has an average rating of 4.6 out of 5 stars from over 300 Amazon buyers. A whopping 81% of these buyers gave the kit a perfect 5-star rating.

One satisfied customer, Zippytlsr, described the collection as “great tools at a great price.” They added, “I love the tools. The included batteries work well. Keep in mind that these tools are suitable for home DIY projects. They offer excellent functionality at a reasonable price, making them a great value.”

Even professional users have expressed satisfaction with the performance of Ryobi tools. Contractors Woody and his father used a Ryobi kit for six months and shared their assessment on the Makin’ Life Work YouTube channel. They found that the tools held up just as well as any other brand. Woody even stated that Ryobi tools were durable enough for most people’s needs.

“For homeowners, these tools will be perfectly adequate,” he remarked. “Even for those who frequently engage in DIY projects, these tools will serve you well.” He even recommended Ryobi tools to professionals who are starting out in the business and want a reliable and affordable line of equipment that they can easily expand upon.

The Challenges and Drawbacks of Lithium Batteries

In an article from Air Quality News, Beatrice Browning, a Ph.D. researcher at the Faraday Institution, explains that the lifetime of a battery can be reduced when the structure of its electrodes is damaged. This damage is caused by the cycling of lithium ions in and out of the electrodes. A study by the Royal Society of Chemistry identifies three main external factors that contribute to the degradation of lithium-ion batteries: temperature, state of charge (SoC), and load profile. Over time, lithium-ion batteries naturally lose capacity due to a limited number of lifecycles. Battery University suggests that counting cycles is inconclusive as discharge depth can vary, and there is no specific standard for defining a cycle.

In addition, certain applications of lithium-ion batteries, such as electric vehicles (EVs), are influenced by external factors that affect their overall lifespan. These factors include charging rates, weather conditions, and charging practices, as reported by SlashGear. Even without any use, lithium-ion batteries can age and degrade through continuous discharge, as confirmed by Newark Electronics. Furthermore, lithium batteries may experience degradation due to manufacturing defects, which could potentially have serious consequences.

Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio Owner Only Experienced One Engine Failure in Five Years

There have been numerous rumors regarding the quality and reliability of Alfa Romeo vehicles. If you browse through Reddit or read comments on Facebook groups, you might be discouraged from buying a new car from this Italian automaker. However, every story has two sides.

At Motor1.com, instead of relying on reliability research agencies, we prefer to listen to actual owners. In this case, we have a video featuring a red Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio being reviewed by its owner after five years of ownership and approximately 34,175 miles (55,000 kilometers) driven.

According to the current owner, who bought the car new in Japan five years ago, the vehicle has been generally reliable. However, there was a major problem with the engine at some point. Thankfully, the manufacturer replaced the entire engine under warranty.

Evidently, the driver had been pushing the car to its limits, keeping the engine in the high rev range. According to the owner, the timing belt snapped, although the Giulia QV model actually uses a timing chain instead. It is believed that the owner meant the accessory belt, which snapped and caused cooling issues that eventually led to engine failure.

So far, this has been the only mechanical issue with the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio. However, there have been smaller problems inside the cabin. The owner mentions occasional malfunctions of the infotainment system and instances where the instrument cluster freezes. Nevertheless, the owner’s biggest disappointment is the car’s depreciation, which amounted to more than 50% over five years.

In the video at the top of the page, you can find answers to questions about the car’s performance, handling, and whether it’s better to buy a new or used Alfa Romeo Giulia.

The Volkswagen business class: world premiere of the all-new Passat Variant

At the world premiere, Volkswagen presents the first photos and facts of the completely newly developed Passat. The focus is on powerful aerodynamic design, new high-efficiency drives, high quality and a host of new technologies. In just a few days, the vehicle will be shown to the public for the first time at the IAA Mobility in Munich (5 to 9 September 2023). The new Passat will be launched as a versatile Variant in the first quarter of 2024. With more than 34 million units sold worldwide, the Passat is the top-selling Volkswagen of all time after the Golf and ahead of the Beetle.

In the new Passat Variant, gear changes are now carried out by means of a steering column switch with intuitive operating principle: the switch is turned forward to “D” to drive forward and backward to “R” to reverse, while the parking brake is activated by pressing the side of the switch.
