1971 Plymouth Cuda Barn Find Looks Terrible, But Survived A Fire

A 1971 Plymouth ‘Cuda Convertible is not in great shape after it survived a fire in the owner’s garage. Although the owner managed to rescue the vehicle from the flames, it suffered significant damage. Photos taken before the fire show that the car was already in poor condition, with faded paint, a missing grille, cracked windshield, and no rear seats.

The owner had plans to restore the ‘Cuda, but now the task is even more challenging. The paint has severely faded, and there are several missing or damaged components. Despite the setbacks, the owner still hopes to bring this muscle car back to its former glory.

The ‘Cuda was the high-performance variant of the regular Barracuda model offered by Plymouth. This particular ‘Cuda features a 340-cubic-inch V8 engine and an automatic gearbox with a steering column shifter.

Plymouth offered a variety of engines for the Barracuda lineup. The base model came with a 198-cubic-inch inline-six engine, while the ‘Cuda could be equipped with a powerful 426-cubic-inch Hemi V8 that produced 425 horsepower.

The 1971 ‘Cuda is considered relatively rare, with Plymouth selling only 18,690 units that year. This was a significant drop from the 55,499 units sold in 1970. The 1971 model featured a revamped design with a four-headlight layout, chrome gills on the front fenders, and different taillights. Plymouth offered 21 exterior colors for this model.

Aside from the ‘Cuda, the owner also has a 1967 Chevrolet Camaro RS with power windows, a 1970 Barracuda, and a Henderson motorcycle in his collection. The owner plans to rebuild his garage so that the ‘Cuda can be safely stored once the construction is complete. Hopefully, this will mark the start of the car’s restoration journey.

Although this ‘Cuda is in rough shape, there are other examples in worse condition. Motor1.com previously covered a triple-black 1972 Plymouth Cuda 340 that was discovered in the woods in Virginia, completely overgrown and covered in leaves. It took a winch-equipped flatbed truck to retrieve the car from its hiding spot.

Jeep Gladiator Owner Chooses to Drive Only on Pavement, Struggles to Keep It Clean

While some Jeep owners enjoy getting their vehicles dirty by taking them on off-roading adventures, others prefer to have a clean and reliable daily driver. This is the case for the owner of a black Jeep Gladiator featured in a video on the NoAvgJoe YouTube channel.

The Gladiator was purchased at the end of 2019 and has since been driven around 40 miles per day for the owner’s daily commute. Over the course of three and a half years, it has accumulated around 40,000 miles on the odometer.

The owner has taken great care of the vehicle, going to great lengths to keep it in pristine condition. In fact, when the owner first got the Gladiator, they would put blankets in the bed every time something was carried in there, despite the fact that the Jeep came with a liner from the factory for protection.

McLaren Solus GT: 830bhp V10-powered monster tops Shootout

All 25 units of the McLaren Solus GT, an extreme track machine with a price tag of over £3 million each, have already been sold. Owners will also receive a travel case for transporting the car to events organized by McLaren.

The CEO of McLaren Automotive, Michael Leiters, described the Solus GT as a realization of a radical concept vehicle originally designed for virtual racing. He emphasized that the car was engineered without any restrictions and represents McLaren’s pioneering spirit.

These engineering freedoms influenced the design of the Solus GT. It features various aerodynamic elements, including a wide front splitter, ground-effect venturi tunnels in the structural floor, a fixed high-downforce rear wing, and individual wheel pods.

According to McLaren, the wheel pods help reduce weight and control airflow, minimizing turbulence and pressure build-up in the wheel well. They also serve as reference points for the driver when positioning the car on the track.

The Solus GT features double-wishbone suspension arms at the front and back, similar to those used in Formula 1. These arms are enclosed in aerodynamic carbon fiber shrouds.

Muscle Car Owner Describes his 2008 Porsche 911 as “Fun” to Drive

When it comes to American muscle car owners, they usually have little respect for European sports cars because they believe that car manufacturers from the Old Continent rarely produce vehicles that can match the power and affordability of US-made muscle cars. However, the opinion of muscle car owners can change when they come across a well-maintained used car like a Porsche 911, as shown in the video above.

The video, posted on the Gearbox Geek YouTube channel, showcases a well-preserved 2008 Porsche 911 Targa 4S. This video channel is known for providing detailed reviews, such as a 40,000-mile review of a Jeep Wrangler.

This particular Porsche 911 is a 997-gen model, equipped with all-wheel drive and a 3.8-liter flat-six engine in the rear. It delivers 355 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. The car features a Tiptronic automatic transmission, which the owner isn’t completely thrilled about. Nevertheless, considering that it’s a second-hand car in mint condition, he understands that he can’t be too picky about it.

When it was brand new in 2008, the car had a price tag of $114,035. It stands out from other 997 models due to its unique features, such as red tinted tail lights, the Sport Chrono package, and a full-leather Sand Beige interior.

In 2020, the car was sold to the current owner, who equipped it with reproduction Fuchs black wheels. He proudly states that in his three years of ownership, the car has never gotten dirty enough to require a wash. Additionally, the car has never been exposed to rain, further demonstrating how well it’s been taken care of.

When Gearbox Geek purchased the car in 2020, it had only 8,200 miles on the odometer. As of last month, it has only reached 9,700 miles. In other words, on average, this red 997 has traveled just 646.6 miles per year since it was first bought back in 2008.

But how does it compare to driving a muscle car? According to the video, the actual owner initially found it difficult to get excited about driving a Porsche. However, after spending some time behind the wheel of the German-made sports car, he realized that the experience was unlike anything else, even with the automatic gearbox.

The 997 generation of the Porsche 911 was launched in 2004, following the controversial 996-gen, which introduced water cooling for the first time in this iconic two-door coupe. Manufactured until 2013 at the company’s factory in Stuttgart, Germany, the 997 was available in various versions, including the base Carrera, Targa, Turbo, GT2, and GT3.

As always, the viewers of the video are encouraged to share their thoughts in the comments section.

Diesel owners entitled to compensation following ruling by German federal court

The highest federal court in Germany has determined that car manufacturers must provide compensation to owners of diesel cars equipped with illegal emission manipulation devices.

This decision comes after a lengthy class-action lawsuit filed against Audi, Mercedes-Benz, and Volkswagen by diesel car owners in Germany.

The federal court’s ruling overturns previous dismissals by state courts, which had referred the claims of diesel car owners to lower courts of appeal.

In its ruling, Germany’s federal court stated that the car manufacturers bear the burden of proving that their diesel emission manipulation devices are not illegal.

As a result of the ruling, owners can now claim between 5% and 15% of the purchase price of their diesel cars that are fitted with illegal emission manipulation devices. This judgment has direct implications for similar lawsuits against other car manufacturers in Germany.

Owners had argued that the value of their diesel cars had been negatively affected due to the use of illegal diesel emission manipulation devices.

The judge referred to several diesel emission manipulation devices, including the so-called “thermal window software programs” allegedly used by Audi, Volkswagen, and Mercedes-Benz.

“Thermal window software program” refers to a device that reduces or disables the nitrous oxide filtering effect of the selective catalytic reduction system within a specific temperature range in a diesel exhaust system.

When diesel cars are started under cold conditions, there is a risk of condensation buildup in their selective catalytic reduction filter systems.

The car manufacturers have argued that the use of thermal window software programs, which reduce or disable the filtering effect, helps prevent condensation and the risk of rust buildup, thereby protecting the engine.

However, this practice results in significantly higher nitrous oxide and particulate emissions than claimed by the manufacturers.

Volkswagen, when questioned about the ruling, stated that its diesel emission systems are not illegal and expects the court to continue rejecting any compensation claims.

Mercedes-Benz argued that European regulatory authorities considered thermal window software programs permissible until July 2022. Therefore, they believe the use of such programs cannot be seen as negligence.

It also includes the 2019-2023 Ford F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550, and F-600 Super Duty trucks in SuperCab or regular cab configurations with the three-passenger front bench seat.
