Ford F-150 Recall: 900K Trucks Affected by Electric Parking Brake Issue

Ford has announced a recall for approximately 900,000 2021-2023 F-150 pickup trucks due to a problem with the electric parking brake. Specifically, models equipped with the single exhaust system may experience unintended activation of the parking brake. This issue is caused by the rear wiring harness coming into contact with the rear axle housing, resulting in chafing and potential short-circuiting.

The investigation into reports of unintended parking brake applications began in February. During the investigation, Ford discovered that the rear axle housing and wiring harness could come into contact, leading to chafing in certain situations. Additionally, corrosion of the rear axle housing could worsen the damage. Over time, the protective tape and circuit insulation can wear away, exposing the wiring and increasing the risk of a short circuit.

Watch Abandoned Fourth-Gen Mustang Get Cleaning To Shine Again

The fourth-generation Ford Mustang, which started production in October 1993, is considered a classic car. In a video featured here, a Mustang from this generation was discovered abandoned in a barn, serving as a home for mice.

The lighting in the barn creates a picturesque scene, accentuating the beauty of the Mustang. Despite being covered in dirt and grime, the vehicle’s body remains in excellent condition, especially the red paint.

Before the cleaning process begins, the WD Detailing team finds a surprise in the trunk: two mice have made it their abode. Humane traps are used to catch the rodents. Additionally, a substantial mouse nest is discovered in the glove box, extending into the dashboard.

Cleaning the exterior of the Mustang proves to be relatively easy. The detailers give the body a thorough wash, utilizing a clay bar and applying a ceramic coating for added protection.

Efforts are made to get the engine running again. With the use of starting fluid, the car briefly comes to life but cannot maintain an idle.

The interior of the Mustang is in a filthy state. The cleaning process involves removing the seats and vacuuming the carpet. Shampooing the floor and treating the seats greatly improves their appearance.

After the detailing process, the Mustang regains its magnificent appeal. It almost looks as if it could be displayed in a showroom from the mid-1990s. However, the assistance of a mechanic is still needed to get the engine functioning properly once again.

The fourth-generation Mustang was released for the 1994 model year and represented a significant departure from the more wedge-shaped appearance of the third-gen Fox body model. Throughout its production, the fourth-gen Mustang offered various V6 and V8 engines. In 1999, the model received a styling refresh, which lasted until 2004 when the retro-inspired fifth-generation Mustang was introduced.

Stay tuned for the upcoming generation of the Ford Mustang, which is set to be released soon. To learn more about it, watch the featured episode of Rambling About Cars.

Triumph’s Electric Concept Car, Triumph TR25, Unveiled by Makkina

Triumph Motor Company, after a hiatus of almost four decades, has made a comeback with an impressive design concept. Launched by the Makkina design house, the Triumph TR25 pays tribute to the iconic Triumph TR2 MCV575 “Jabbeke” from 1953, known for its record-breaking performance.

The TR25 draws inspiration from the TR2’s design, incorporating various styling elements. Notably, the headlights feature a central “25” as a nod to Makkina’s 25th anniversary. The concept car boasts a sleek and minimalistic exterior, deviating from the original model’s curvaceous design. With short overhangs, large wheels, and distinct creases over the fenders, the TR25 exudes a modern appeal.

Archive special: The Birth of the Ford Fiesta

The final production of the Ford Fiesta is happening today at Ford’s factory in Cologne, marking the end of almost 50 years of production.

The history of the Ford Fiesta goes back further than you might think. Ford had never entered the ‘mini’ car market in Europe before. Instead, in 1958, they chose to follow up the Anglia with another family car – the Cortina. This decision was based on the belief that the Cortina would be a more successful venture. This belief was supported by a thorough examination of Austin’s new Mini in 1959.

However, as the Mini became a huge success and gained competition from the Hillman Imp and Fiat 127, Ford decided to reconsider their approach.

This led to the creation of a prototype that gained initial approval from management in 1970. Following that, Ford’s global empire split the project into different branches.

One of the most successful branches was the design house Ghia in Italy. They showcased the advantages of front-wheel drive (FWD). Soon after, in September 1972, Ford allocated $1 billion for ‘Project Bobcat’ – despite boss Henry Ford II still holding the belief that small cars only generated small profits. (This disproves the notion that the Fiesta was solely a response to the 1973 oil crisis.)

End of an era: The Ford Fiesta story

Recognizing the importance of meeting consumer demands, Ford conducted an extensive market research project. The project was one of the most expensive at the time and involved randomly selecting drivers from Britain, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain to evaluate various prototypes.

The research revealed that the Fiesta was the perfect size for all countries and that FWD was highly preferred. Further research in 1973 showed that the car should be a hatchback, as hatchbacks were increasingly popular due to their added practicality compared to sedans.

Additionally, research conducted in San Francisco indicated that Americans also showed interest in the car, which led to plans for US sales. As a result, production expanded beyond Cologne, Saarlouis, and a newly built factory in Valencia, to include Dagenham as well.

Chevrolet Camaro Sales Increase by 110% in Q2 2023, Almost Matches Mustang

The competition between Detroit muscle cars for sales dominance is coming to an end, but the Camaro is determined to go out with a bang. While it will be discontinued at the end of the year without a clear successor, the Camaro has made significant strides in narrowing the gap with its rivals. For years, it has lagged behind the Dodge Challenger and Ford Mustang in sales, but now the margin is surprisingly close.

Just how close are we talking? In the period from April to June, Chevrolet sold 9,557 new Camaros. Although it remains in third place, it’s worth noting that Ford sold just 10,760 Mustangs during the same period. This is the smallest gap we’ve seen between these two rivals in a long time, and the sales trends are favoring the Camaro. Compared to the previous quarter, the Chevy has seen a remarkable 110% increase in sales, while the Mustang has dipped by 2.2%. If this pattern continues, Chevrolet may surpass Ford before bidding farewell to its beloved Camaro.

2024 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Garage 56 Edition

Even the Dodge Challenger, which has dominated the pony car segment as Detroit’s best-selling car for the last two years, is not performing as well as the Camaro. Dodge technically outsold Ford and Chevrolet with 12,904 Challengers, but that still represents an 11% decrease from the previous year. Overall, Challenger sales are down 5% compared to last year and it’s currently narrowly trailing the Mustang for the top spot.

Vehicle Q2 2023 Sales Q2 YoY Change YTD 2023 Sales YoY Change %
Ford Mustang 10,760 -2.2 percent 25,471 -2.9 percent
Dodge Challenger 12,904 -11 percent 24,275 -5 percent
Chevrolet Camaro 9,957 + 110.3 percent 17,337 + 54 percent

Granted, the Camaro had a poor sales year in 2022, but so did the Mustang. 2022 was Ford’s worst year for pony car sales ever, but the introduction of a new generation could reverse this trend. The 2024 Mustang, unveiled last September, will be available for sale later this year with more power from its standard 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder and 5.0-liter V8 engines.

Meanwhile, Chevrolet is offering a Collector’s Edition package for various Camaro trims as production winds down. The Dodge Challenger is also available in multiple special edition trims to commemorate the end of its production.
