Toyota has expanded its vehicle lineup with the introduction of the 2025 Crown Signia. This new hybrid-electric SUV from Toyota will be available for purchase next summer, joining the Crown sedan in the company’s US portfolio.

The 2025 Crown Signia is equipped with Toyota’s Hybrid Electric Vehicle system, which combines a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with two electric motors. Welcome everyone to the Toyota Crown Signia, an all-new hybrid model joining Toyota’s SUV lineup. For those unfamiliar with the Crown moniker, it is one of Toyota’s longest-running nameplates, with a global presence since 1955. The Crown was actually the first Japanese car to be offered in the United States back in 1958.

The Toyota Crown sedan, introduced earlier this year, marked the return of the nameplate after 51 years. With the Signia, the Crown enters the SUV space for the first time, making it the second Crown model in Toyota’s current U.S. portfolio. Unlike the smaller Japanese-spec Crown SUV, the Crown Signia is a two-row mid-size crossover SUV.

The Toyota Crown Insignia SUV is based on the Toyota New Global Architecture K platform (TNGA-K), shared with the Crown sedan. This versatile platform offers a blend of SUV practicality and sedan driving comfort. Produced at Toyota’s Tsutsumi plant in Aichi, Japan, the Toyota Crown Signia will be available exclusively as a Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV).

Featuring a 2.5-liter DOHC four-cylinder engine paired with two electric motor generators, the system delivers 243 combined net horsepower and is paired with an ECVT. Additionally, it offers three drive modes: Normal, Eco, Sport, and EV. The Crown Insignia achieves an impressive 36 combined MPG, excelling in fuel economy, and includes features such as electronic AWD as standard.

Toyota’s on-demand electronic AWD comes as standard, with a dedicated rear motor for additional power when needed. The system intelligently distributes torque and can vary the torque split between 100:0 during constant speed driving to 20:80 on slippery surfaces. According to Toyota, this setup enhances cornering ability, reduces understeer, and provides a maximum towing capacity of 2,700 pounds.

The Crown Finally Embraces The Lifestyle SUV

The exterior design of the Crown SUV adopts Toyota’s latest design language, particularly noticeable in the front with the Hammerhead front end. Complementing the front facia is a geometric lower grille flanked by daytime running lights. The elongated roofline conveys spaciousness, with the tail-end featuring a light bar running across it.

Available across XLE and Limited grades, the Toyota offers two distinct flavors with the Crown Signia SUV, and features 19-inch alloy wheels on the XLE and 21-inch rims on the Limited trim. The design also includes body cladding and roof rails, characteristic of a crossover SUV. Overall, the design has a broad appeal and resembles a wagon in profile.

The versatile platform allows for a roomy cabin with spacious second-row seating and ample cargo space when the seats are folded. Toyota engineers focused on reducing in-cabin NVH levels, equipping the Crown SUV with acoustic-absorbing materials and ensuring a whisper-quiet ride.

Records broken as Ash Sutton secures his fourth BTCC title

Ash Sutton has become a record-equalling four-time British Touring Car Champion, clinching the title with two wins at the renowned Brands Hatch GP circuit last weekend.

The 29-year-old achieved an impressive feat of six pole positions and 12 race wins during the season, making him the first driver to claim the championship in both rear-wheel and front-wheel-drive vehicles.

Previously, the only driver to achieve six pole positions in a season was James Thompson in 2003, and the sole racer to secure 12 race wins was Alain Menu back in 1997. Sutton’s four titles now put him on par with Andy Rouse and Colin Turkington.

Sutton faced strong competition from the runner-up and outgoing champion, Tom Ingram, who finished second in the first two races. Ingram pursued Sutton throughout the season, but Sutton held onto his lead to secure the championship.

“It feels incredible, I’m lost for words,” said Sutton. “The car has been absolutely fantastic, and I’m immensely grateful to NAPA Racing UK and everyone involved. Becoming a four-time BTCC champion is an amazing achievement!”

Sutton further expressed his relief, acknowledging the pressure of maintaining his lead throughout the season. “Even though we had a significant points gap, Tom [Ingram] was right. It was ours to lose. A single bad race could have changed everything… People talk about breaking records, which is great. We always strive to push further. But what’s truly special is being the first driver to claim the title in both front-wheel and rear-wheel-drive vehicles. That’s what we were ultimately aiming for because I don’t plan to stop at four titles.”

The 2023 season concluded on a high note for BMW as Jake Hill won the final race for Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport. However, BMW fell just short of securing their eighth consecutive manufacturers’ title. The NAPA Racing UK/Ford team claimed both the Manufacturers’ and Teams’ titles, while Josh Cook and his One Motorsport with Starline Racing squad took home the Independent Drivers’ and Teams’ accolades.

The Jack Sears Trophy, which saw a close competition throughout the year, was won by CarStore Power Maxed Racing’s rookie driver, Andrew Watson.

The Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship will return in April, with the opening rounds of the 2024 season taking place at Donington Park.

Sutton seals the deal with race one success

NAPA Racing UK’s Ash Sutton secured a lights-to-flag victory in the opening race, solidifying his lead in the championship battle.

It was a fitting win for Sutton, who was undoubtedly the star of the 2023 BTCC season. He was closely followed by his main rival for the championship, Tom Ingram of Bristol Street Motors with EXCELR8.

Ingram kept the pressure on Sutton throughout the race and made a final attempt to snatch victory after a late safety car period. However, Sutton held his ground and crossed the finish line ahead of Ingram, sparking wild celebrations in the NAPA Racing UK garage.

Preview of the 2024 Toyota Crown Special Edition with Matte Paint

The Toyota Crown has been predominantly available only in Japan for many years. However, with the introduction of the sixteenth generation in 2022, it has expanded to become a family of several vehicles. Currently, the Crown is sold as a high-riding sedan and a crossover, with a larger SUV and a regular sedan set to be released in Japan soon.

Hot on the heels of the recently launched Crown Sport crossover, Toyota is now preparing a special edition for the jacked-up saloon. This limited-run variant, which will only be available in Japan, is based on the RS Advanced trim and features an exclusive matte paint job along with unspecified “other special features”.

2024 Toyota Crown Sport (JDM)

This special edition Crown is expected to go on sale in Japan in December. Although the price has not been announced, it is likely to be more expensive than the 6,400,000 yen (approximately $43,000) RS Advanced trim. Customers will be able to purchase this special edition from dedicated Crown showrooms, with locations currently available in Tsuzuki, Yokohama, and Tenjin, Fukuoka. Additional showrooms in Aichi, Chiba, and Tokyo are planned to open soon.

It seems that the Crown is turning into a sub-brand to distinguish it from the regular lineup of Toyota vehicles. In addition to the four initial models, the even more luxurious Century sedan and the recently launched SUV are only available for order from select Century Meisters showrooms.

Crown dealerships will showcase all four models, and potential customers will have the opportunity to test drive them. Toyota is also creating upscale lounge areas and organizing networking events for owners, while the design of the building reflects the Crown brand’s identity. Following the release of this first special edition, more limited-run variants with additional features will be introduced for other Crown models.

Toyota Introduces the 2024 Toyota Crown Sport in Japan, Hybrid Power Now, PHEV Coming Soon

Toyota has unveiled its latest addition to the Crown family in Japan, the Crown Sport crossover. It may seem confusing, considering the name is used for a different jacked-up sedan in the United States known as the Crown Crossover. In addition to the Sport, there is also a Crown Estate, which is not a wagon but rather a larger SUV. However, there is still the familiar regular Crown Sedan.

Although it may seem odd to have a Crown model that deviates from the traditional sedan, it’s worth noting that the previous 15 generations of the Crown have been offered in various body styles, including wagons, coupes, vans, and even pickups. Therefore, there are no limitations on which types of vehicles can carry the Crown badge. Initially, the Crown Sport will be available only with a hybrid powertrain, but a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) variant will be added to the lineup in December.

Porsche Taycan GT Demonstrates Incredible Speed During Testing for Nürburgring Lap Record

Porsche and Tesla have been locked in a battle for the title of the fastest electric vehicle at the Nürburgring for several years. While Tesla currently holds the record among non-supercars, Porsche is ready to strike back. A recent spy video showcases the upcoming flagship version of the Taycan as it confidently attacks the challenging Nürburgring track. There are reports suggesting that the German electric sedan has already completed a faster lap time than Tesla’s Plaid, although no official confirmation has been made yet.

According to the professional spy photographer who captured the video footage, the Taycan Turbo GT (name not officially confirmed) was actually closer in lap time to the Rimac Nevera than the Model S Plaid. As a reminder, the Croatian electric supercar completed a lap around the famous track in 7 minutes and 5.298 seconds, while the Model S Plaid Track Pack required approximately 20 seconds longer. The photographer asserts that “for sure they [Porsche] have beaten the Tesla.”

Toyota Crown Website Connects with Dealers and the Marketing Industry

They say that necessity is the mother of invention, and the Toyota Crown Virtual Tour is a perfect example of that.

To support the launch of the 2023 Toyota Crown, Toyota Marketing and the Applied Tech Research Lab (ATRL) within OneTech collaborated to create an innovative tool called WebGL.

This tool allows for a highly immersive and interactive presentation of the vehicle, which can be displayed on the dealers’ preferred screens, such as desktops, tablets, and smartphones.

This approach has proven to be incredibly successful, with over 3,000 dealer personnel in the U.S. and over 7,000 globally accessing the site. Even more impressive is that 65% of these users have interacted with the content to view the Crown, both inside and out, and learn about its engineering features, as well as its comfort and convenience offerings.

Amy Chao, the manager of Vehicle Marketing and Communications, expressed her satisfaction with the usage metrics, especially considering the limited promotion of the site to dealership partners. The main objective was to educate salespeople about the Crown so they could pass on that knowledge to their customers, and it seems that goal was achieved.

Now, the question remains: Will the success of the Crown site inspire others in the future? Only time will tell.

Why You Should And Shouldn’t Buy The Toyota Crown

The Toyota Crown has evolved significantly over the years and the latest model starts at a reasonable price of $39,950. However, this new price has caused some people to question the Crown’s reputation as a symbol of low-key elegance. The Crown badge has been used on different types of vehicles, from stylish coupes to taxis and police cars, giving it various meanings and roles in Japan and neighboring regions.

The Crown played a significant role in the development of the luxurious Lexus brand. Some people wonder if the latest Crown model’s flamboyant identity swap is a bold move forward or a hasty deviation from its time-honored roots. Classic Crowns are now gaining popularity in American driveways, representing the Crown’s golden years. Only time will tell if the 2023 Crown’s audacious change represents evolution or a daring rebellion against tradition.

2. Con: Form Over Function; Compromised Interior Space

One downside of the Crown’s suave and appealing design is that it compromises rear visibility. The sleek and sweeping lines that contribute to its eye-catching silhouette also limit the rearview, making parking a bit challenging. The Crown’s unique design, including a sloping roofline and high floor due to the hybrid battery pack, also impacts interior space, especially headroom. Tall passengers may find the interior space, particularly the headroom, limited. Additionally, the boot opening is small, making it difficult to pack large items. The compromise on visibility and space can be a drawback for those who prioritize practicality.
