On this week’s 2-Stroke Tuesday we take a more in-depth have a look at check rider Carson Brown’s Twisted Development customized constructed Suzuki RM300cc race machine.  This is likely one of the most original machines that has ever been raced on the 2-Stroke World Championship, if you wish to see it in motion take a look at our YouTube for the entire reside race protection or scroll to the underside on this put up.

Surprisingly this construct is basically near a inventory RMZ250 4 stroke, as a matter a truth the whole chassis moreover the engine mount or cradle mods is OEM Suzuki . When Suzuki final up to date the RMZ250 the body was modified in direction of the entrance of the bike making the “Y” part come up increased permitting it to accommodate a two-stroke exhaust simpler.

Carson talked about this was probably the greatest two-strokes he has ever had an opportunity to journey relating to an general package deal.

No you may’t purchase this exhaust in your two-stroke. This is a totally customized one-off system made particularly for this construct. We love the best way it seems however as of proper now Pro Circuit has no plans to supply it to most people. (That may change although)

The RMZ engine mounts have been changed with utterly customized variations that positioned the brand new 300cc KTM engine within the appropriate place.

The crew at Guts Racing made a gripper seat cowl to go with the chrome completed Backyard Design customized graphics.

Carson Brown used the brand new Dunlop MX34 tires mounted on inventory Suzuki RMZ wheels.

The KTM 300cc engine seems proper at dwelling within the RMZ250 four-stroke chassis. It’s fascinating how little body modification was wanted to perform this engine swap.

Extreme shut up of the Keihin carb that feeds the Twisted Development tuned KTM 300 engine.

2003 SUZUKI RM250 SEAN HAMBLIN TRIBUTE PROJECT : 2-STROKE TUESDAY

2-Stroke Tuesday is all about supporting premix burning machines previous and current, this week we take an in-depth have a look at our 2003 Suzuki RM250 undertaking that we added some Sean Hamblin flare for a bit tribute to his time with the manufacturing unit staff. Reading like a who’s who of motocross historical past, Suzuki-supported riders within the early ‘2000s like Pastrana, Tortelli, Roncada and Hamblin—and that’s simply within the 250cc class alone—tried to step up into that prime spot. This is the place our inspiration for a 2003 RM250 rebuild got here from. So, with the scent of premix and race fuel burnt into our brains, we began spinning wrenches.

BUILDING OLD YELLOW
The better part about going again and rebuilding a 14-year-old motorbike is the facility of creativeness. With this construct, we determined so as to add a modern-day twist with an old-school look. When beginning a construct like this, there are a number of requirements one should possess. Patience is an important, as these builds are time-consuming and by no means go as deliberate, in addition to be versatile, prepared to alter instructions at any time and have a alternative bolt equipment from Specbolt or Tusk Racing, as a result of they’re lifesavers.
Unlike most rebuilds, our RM250 was really intact and in semi-working situation. We finally discovered that doesn’t at all times imply it’s going to make it any simpler. After a whole tear-down, we acquired to see what actually wanted to be performed, and belief us after we say it virtually stopped there. The bike was held along with mismatched {hardware}, JB Weld and a ton of what superglue. The full engine was shipped to Matt at L.A. Sleeve, and whereas he was disassembling it, he discovered all kinds of surprises.

RM250_7web
Bottom line: the highest and backside ends of the engine wanted some TLC. On a great word, the transmission appeared okay, minus the clutch, which was hammered. The crank was rebuilt in-house utilizing a ProX OEM alternative rod equipment. The coating contained in the cylinder was half gone, so it was fastened with an L.A. Sleeve cylinder rebuild equipment. Each equipment incorporates a sleeve, LAPC piston with rings, clips and wrist pin, together with a brand new wrist-pin bearing and top-end gasket equipment. As we talked about, the clutch wanted some consideration, so we changed it with a ProX basket, inside hub and clutch-plate equipment that additionally consists of springs.
With all the most important engine work accomplished at L.A. Sleeve, we determined to incorporate some aftermarket components from Boyesen. The ignition and clutch cowl gave the RM a cool manufacturing unit look, whereas the Supercooler elevated coolant circulate, and the Rad Valve consumption would assist total engine efficiency.

RM250_8web
Pepping up the engine efficiency can be a Bill’s Pipes exhaust system, and we added some cool manufacturing unit bling with a cone-look end on the enlargement chamber. This is a service that may be added to any Bill’s Works two-stroke pipes on the time of buy for an additional price of $125. The Keihin carburetor was rebuilt utilizing a equipment from All Balls. The equipment included every thing wanted to return the setting again to OEM specs.
Once the chassis was uncovered, identical to the engine it wanted a variety of work. Every bearing on the body, linkage and swingarm was changed utilizing All Balls’ equipment. Some of the outdated bearings have been so rusted that they needed to be heated and beat out with a punch. Some even required Dremel-tool consideration and knowledgeable mechanic expertise. It’s wonderful what a bit upkeep and a few grease may have prevented.
Suspension was one other attention-grabbing space on this construct. We thought the engine and chassis have been unhealthy, however the suspension was worse! It was so unhealthy that it couldn’t be saved. It was both hunt one thing down on eBay or go to the dealership and throw down a great deal of money.

RM250action1web
Last 12 months WP North America launched the Cone Valve fork and Trax shock kits for newer Japanese bikes, so we determined to offer them a name. The Dirt Candy Suzuki staff really ran WP suspension elements on their bikes all final 12 months. Turns out that decision would change our route of the general construct. With using newer 450 triple clamps, we have been capable of bolt on a whole front-end. The forks slide proper within the clamps. We simply needed to run the entrance wheel with spacers off a more recent 250/450, together with a whole front-brake system off a more recent bike that we added an outsized Moto Master rotor equipment to. The Trax shock would require some modifications, making it shorter than the WP, however then would bolt as much as a inventory 2003 Suzuki RM250 linkage.
With all the most important work completed, we centered on the look. Sean Hamblin was a neighborhood SoCal child with tons of expertise that had scored a manufacturing unit Suzuki trip as a fill-in rider and proved himself worthy of a full-time trip. He really ran #33 in 2003, however we appreciated the look of the 2004 manufacturing unit bikes higher, so we morphed the 2 along with the assistance of Red Label Graphics.

RM250_9web
The hubs are literally inventory. Faster USA cleaned them up, changed the bearings and laced up a set of Excel gold rims to prime off the manufacturing unit look. This is a service they provide to everybody for about half the price of a brand new wheelset. Bling with out an enormous price ticket? Now that’s our sort of deal. Instead of going with an all-black seat just like the manufacturing unit bikes, Jeff over at SDG added some shade with a yellow, black and pink customized gripper design.

RM250_5web
GOOD AS NEW?
You know what we mentioned at first about endurance? On some builds, simply while you suppose all of the work is completed, it has solely simply begun! This is a kind of builds. Once the bike was accomplished, we began the method of getting the jetting dialed in. On older bikes this may be very difficult, and our RM250 proved to be simply that. After hours of various mixtures that at occasions bordered on downright madness, all the workers have been scratching their heads in confusion. So what does any good motohead do? Steal the carb of his buddy’s completely working RM250 when he’s at work in fact. With a few minor changes, it labored nice.
Sometimes, irrespective of what number of occasions you rebuild it, issues simply put on out and have to be changed, and that was undoubtedly true on this case. Once formally accomplished with a brand new carb, our RM250 was a blast to trip and turned heads in all places it went. Besides the time spent wrenching with buddies and a way of accomplishment when it’s all performed, the most effective half about builds like this one is having that feeling of wanting ahead to the weekend and the prospect to trip! Time to discover a new undertaking.

1995 HONDA CR250R TWO-STROKE COMPLETE REBUILD : 2-STROKE TUESDAY

On this week’s 2-Stroke Tuesday we’re letting everybody see the newest full rebuild from Jay Clark and his crew. This 1995 Honda CR250R is considered one of 5 that Clark is restoring and as you possibly can see this one has early ’90s Jeremy McGrath vibes. We can’t wait to see what he has in retailer for the others however for the time being scroll down to take a look at particulars of this magnificence.

Rather a lot on trade main corporations like Wiseco, Pro-X, Decal Works, Works Connection, Dunlop, FMF, Rekluse, IMS, Specbolt, Race Tech, ODI, Sano Metal Finishing, TMR, VP Racing Fuels and extra.

Jay Clark all smiles together with his newest creation . We know that smile is massive as a result of this one is lastly performed!

The engine was rebuilt internally utilizing Pro X elements with the cylinder being re-plated by Millennium Technologies after which labored over by Tom Morgan Racing. The crank was rebuilt by Andrew Langston. The Specbolt Nickel Wurks package actually clothes up the engine {hardware}.

IMS Products is likely one of the corporations that by no means stopped producing merchandise for these ’90s two-stroke machines.

This Fasst Co package eliminates the necessity for a separate return spring and works nice.

Not many issues look cooler than a pipe aspect shot of a two-stroke and this one is an absolute murals.

TWO-STROKE THEATER

1997 KDX220 PROJECT BY CARSON BROWN : 2-STROKE TUESDAY

On this week’s 2-Stroke Tuesday Carson Brown tells us a little bit of the story behind building his KDX220 project and why he thinks it’s one of the best off-road woods bikes ever built. If you want to see the mighty KDX220 in action scroll to the bottom of this page. We promise you won’t be disappointed in what this machine can do with Carson at the controls. For the full story on this build check out the February 2024 printed issue of Dirt Bike Magazine.

We found this particular 1997 KDX 220 on Facebook Marketplace for a pretty good deal. It wasn’t in the best shape but we knew it would be a fun build.

Naturally the first order of business after getting this gem home was to really asses what was needed. As you probably expected a complete engine rebuild was needed. We got online and ordered all the rebuild parts needed from Motosport.com and sent the cylinder off to Southern California so Pro Circuits Mitch Payton could work his magic.

Before we installed the dunlop tires the wheels got new purple rims and oversized spokes connected to the refurbished OEM hubs all put together by Kristen and the crew at Dubya.

The pipe was a Platinum 2 that had to come from the rafters in some old stock room because we don’t see it anywhere on Pro Circuits website and the silencer was originally built for a KX250 motocross model.

Guts Racing seat foam covered by a retro purple gripper cover. Other chassis bolt-on items included Devol Racing aluminum guards and skid plate, complete Works Connection clutch perch system, Renthal bars and drive system,

The KDX200/220 was one of the best woods bikes ever made in my humble opinion. It’s simple, and cheap. The engine with its KIPS power valve was super smooth and torquey back in the day; kind of like a 4 stroke without the weight and complexity.

2001 RM250 KEVIN WINDHAM TRIBUTE PROJECT: 2-STROKE TUESDAY

On this week’s 2-Stroke Tuesday we provide the first take a look at our accomplished 2001 Suzuki RM250 Ok-Dub Tribute undertaking. This construct began over two years in the past and technically continues to be not finished however we couldn’t maintain in our pleasure any longer! Tim Sharp did all of the wrench turning on this undertaking and we are able to’t thank him sufficient for his consideration to element. Our fearless chief “Ron $-Shot Lawson” did the honors within the studio so take pleasure in.

We labored with a handful of Suzuki race crew sponsors from 2001 like Lightspeed Carbon Fiber, Motul, Excel Rims, Michelin Tires, Pro Circuit, Mototass, Twin Air and Acerbis. Now as a result of it is a tribute and never a reproduction undertaking we additionally introduced some new folks into the combination that included Ride Engineering, Dubya USA, Superlite sprockets, Boyco Racing, ODI, AHM Factory Services, Specbolt, Gutts Racing and Throttle Syndicate topped the construct off with an superior retro graphics package.

The Ride Engineering full clamps bolted proper as much as our inventory body with completely no points and look wonderful as you’ll be able to see. The cut up fashion design brings a few of that modern-day know-how to the desk that may solely profit the general dealing with of this 20 plus yr previous RM250.

Pro Circuit was an enormous supporter of the 250cc Suzuki crew after they have been on two-strokes so we wished to make use of their exhaust. They even discovered a silencer with a stinger on it identical to the crew used again in 2001. Blew our minds. Specbolt offered us with a whole Nikel Wurks bolt package that actually clothes up the bike, we extremely advocate spending the cash on new nuts and bolts when doing a undertaking like this!

AHM Factory Services dealt with all our suspension wants together with the specialty coatings. Brandon and his crew made positive that the colours have been as near what crew Suzuki ran again within the day after which added some addition bling as nicely. We don’t know the way they made our clapped out suspension look so good.

If you might be constructing a Suzuki of any sort gold rims are the cherry on high. Dubya USA provides a inventory rebuild wheel  service that can depart you speechless. The manufacturing unit crew had loopy excessive greenback hubs that had mild gray tint to them, Dubya did a lightweight gray Cerakote, changed all of the bearings after which laced up a set of gold Excel rims utilizing chrome steel spokes. The photos don’t do the job they did justice! We once more added some bling with new {hardware} from Specbolt, a aluminum rear sprocket from Superlite, DID chain, Lightspeed Carbon Fiber and wrapped all of it up with some Michelin Starcross tires.

Teddy Boyco from Boyco Racing in Orange County California took care of all our engine work utilizing Pro X elements. Teddy has been across the bike trade for a very long time and his small store in California does an enormous quantity of labor for folks nationwide . If you might be having a crank rebuilt at your native store and they’re sending it out  there’s a good likelihood Teddy is perhaps aside of that course of.

It seems to be so good we nearly don’t wish to experience it! We at the moment are considering some retro No Fear gear, Aria helmet, Scott goggles and Alpinestar boots identical to Ok-Dub wore again in 2001 can be applicable for the motion images.

JONNY WALKER DOMINATES ENDUROCROSS OPENER

Jonny Walker swept the opening occasion of the EnduroCross schedule on his Beta 300RR 2-stroke. “I was quietly confident coming in, you know I’ve worked on feeling good and, honestly, last year, I was coming off of two operations and I finished the first round in eighth. So to start this year with a win is huge for me. I knew I was riding good, so I’m really happy with how tonight has gone.”

Walker added to his domination of the occasion by posting the quickest time in hot-laps, forward of final 12 months’s title rival FMF/KTM Factory Racing’s Trystan Hart, and Webb, setting the beginning order for the primary moto. Webb’s teammate, Cooper Abbott and manufacturing unit GasGas rider Taddy Blazusiak, have been fourth and fifth. According to the highest riders, the Everett, Washington course was a extremely technical one, and a course that required not solely finesse, however consistency, which Walker had in spades.

A shot on the podium would imply Cody Webb must end one higher than Rockstar Husqvarna’s Ryder Leblond and two higher than FMF KTM’s Trystan Hart within the last moto. He ended up third within the moto,  second total for the night time on his Sherco 300 2-stroke.

Hart took the early lead in moto one, adopted carefully by Walker and Rockstar Energy Factory Racing’s Colton Haaker, the collection 2021 champ. Walker put the stress on Hart all through the race, though he by no means led till the ultimate flip of the next-to-last lap, when Hart misplaced his entrance finish and went down, gifting Walker first place. Walker held on for the win, whereas Hart adopted in second, and Haaker completed third.

Ryder LeBlond (third Overall): “I wasn’t the fastest out there tonight, although I put myself in a good position and that’s what’s required in this championship. We saw how important consistency was last season, so I am really happy to come away from round one with a really strong result on the podium.”

In moto two, the order is reversed from the opening moto, so Walker had final decide on the gate, simply forward of Webb and LeBlond. Abbott got here away with the lead early within the race, whereas Walker, Hart and Webb have been mired in mid-pack, then Walker was finest at passing on the technical course and he the lead by the mid-way level, with Webb working his technique to an eventual second place, whereas the ever-consistent LeBlond completed third.

Trystan Hart (fifth Overall): “My day started off pretty good here at round one. I’m really excited to be back racing the EnduroCross championship this year after coming so close to the title last year. I was able to finish in P2 for both the Hot Lap and the opening moto, and then from there, honestly, I just struggled. Disappointing night to finish up fifth, but we’ll regroup as a team and come out stronger in Arizona for the next round.”

Hart nonetheless had an opportunity heading into the ultimate moto, Walker took the lead early and Hart was solely in a position to muster an eighth-place end. In the ultimate outcomes, Walker took the general with a 1-1-1 moto rating, with Webb second at 7-2-3 and LeBlond in third with 5-3-4.

Colton Haaker (4th Overall): “First round here of the EnduroCross season and we had some first race jitters, for sure. The night started out rough for me and I really had to rely on the training I’d done entering round one to increase my confidence. I had two good motos, although a fall in race two really hurt my overall position… all-in-all, not a bad way to begin my season.”

The introduction then turned into an over-two-hour brainstorming session about the build and what was possible. With Wayne’s background in fabrication, the possibilities seemed endless.

This machine looks surprisingly stock just sitting on the stand. Looks can be very deceiving. Todd and the crew at SLM Racing wanted to make a statement with performance rather than looks. We think they nailed both.

The Honda CR500R has been out of production since the mid 2000s, and since the day Honda stopped production, the two-stroke masses have been begging for the two-stroke’s return. This machine is impressive but once you really start looking close the attention to detail shines through and because this is a one-off build everything had to be customized. Engine, suspension and the entire chassis has custom features on it everywhere. The kickstand located on the left side is not a coincidence Dues Customs Michael ‘Woolie’ Woolaway fabricated it that way so it was easier for Pedrosa to start the bike.

The Kawasaki KX500 is one of the most iconic two-stroke machines ever produced. On the professional racing level, this bike dominated off-road and outdoor motocross championships but was never a winner in the confined spaces of Supercross. Okay, to be fair, there was never a class the KX500 was eligible to participate in. With Red Bull making this year’s Straight Rhythm open to big-bore two-strokes, Tyler Bowers decided to build himself a KX500 with some Supercross credentials. He appropriately named it “the Unit.”

But mXrevival believes they can make them even cooler. Their goal is not just to build bikes, but to custom build them for customers and give them away as prizes.

We build incredible bikes for you to win. “

Their current project is the 2023 Gas Gas MC250 Bike Build & Giveaway, which is currently in progress. But now they are introducing the new MC500 two-stroke monster, named “HELFYRE”. This bike is equipped with a brand new BRC Racing engine.

If you want to win this incredible MC500 build, you can enter on the mXrevival website. By entering, you also support OMC Raceway, a motorcycle club that has been around for generations.

mXrevival is not just about building bikes, they also believe in supporting worthy charities. They are sincerely grateful for your support.
