ALL-ELECTRIC FIAT 500e NAMED BEST ELECTRIC CITY CAR BY DIESEL&ECOCAR MAGAZINE FOR SECOND YEAR RUNNING

  • FIAT 500e collects title for ‘Best Electric City Car’ in Diesel&EcoCar Magazine’s EcoCar Electrified Top 50 Awards for the second year in a row
  • Judges commend 500e for its range, affordability, design, and maneuverability
  • Buyers can benefit from FIAT’s new E-Grant and receive £3,000 towards a new 500e

The FIAT 500e has been awarded the title of ‘Best Electric City Car’ in Diesel&EcoCar Magazine’s EcoCar Electrified Top 50 Awards for the second consecutive year. This latest achievement further adds to the car’s collection of national and international accolades.

The 500e was put to the test by Diesel&EcoCar Magazine’s expert panel of journalists, who compared it to the leading electric vehicles in the market. The judges particularly praised the 500e for its excellent range, affordability, design, and maneuverability, making it the perfect choice for urban driving.

Ian Robertson, Editor & Publisher of Diesel&EcoCar Magazine, commented: “The 500e retains its position as our favorite all-electric city car. It is affordable to purchase outright, and with various low-cost financing options available, it will likely be many motorists’ first electric vehicle. It is incredibly easy to drive, with its smaller battery pack providing a range of 118 miles for city dwellers, and the 42kWh version offering a 199-mile range for longer journeys. Its quick acceleration, tight turning circle, and compact size make it an outstanding car for urban areas, and its interior represents a significant improvement from the older 500 models. It is more spacious than it appears and, of course, its adorable appearance cannot be ignored.”

Damien Dally, Managing Director of FIAT & Abarth UK, said: “We are delighted to receive further industry recognition for the 500e from Diesel&EcoCar Magazine by winning their Best City Car Award for the second year in a row. FIAT is leading the way in the nation’s transition to electric vehicles, making the 500e more accessible than ever with our new E-Grant initiative, which offers customers £3,000 towards the purchase of a new 500e or 500e Convertible.”

The Fiat 500e is the first fully-electric Fiat that has been designed from the ground up. It offers a range of best-in-class features, including Level 2 Autonomous Driving technologies, various battery options, and an impressive driving range of up to 199 miles (WLTP) – the longest range of any electric city car on the market today.

To further enhance the 500e’s appeal, the car is equipped with 85kW fast charging, allowing the battery to reach 80% range in just 30 minutes and enabling a range of 30 miles in approximately five minutes.

Additionally, thanks to its fully-electric nature, the 500e is exempt from congestion charges and the ULEZ (Ultra Low Emission Zone), making it the ideal vehicle for urban areas. Furthermore, the 500e convertible is the only 4-seater convertible in its segment.

New FIAT Topolino: electrifying urban mobility with a unique taste of Dolce Vita

  • New FIAT Topolino: the easiest way to enrich urban mobility with Dolce Vita, joy, and colour
  • The New Topolino has all the basics for sustainable freedom in the city: reduced carbon footprint, reduced space footprint, reduced sound footprint
  • A new vehicle for everyone to enjoy electric mobility
  • The line-up consists of two bodies: the “closed” Topolino and the “open” Topolino Dolce Vita, with one colour, one wheel design, one interior, plus exciting customisation options
  • Topolino set to go on sale in the UK from 2024

FIAT continues its mission to develop sustainable mobility for cities and turn them into relaxing playgrounds where driving becomes an easy and sustainable experience accessible to all. Such an objective becomes a reality thanks to the new FIAT Topolino, a joyful and cool new electric car for everyone.

Topolino is an ideal solution for urban and short-range mobility, able to access anywhere thanks to its electric nature. A homage to the brand’s history and its ability to innovate with likability and coolness, it perfectly embodies the New Dolce Vita style and pure Italian beauty.

With truly unique accessories – such as the little shower, which makes it the perfect beach essential -, a fresh design, and the ability to drive it from age 16 (subject to licence conditions) and up, the New FIAT Topolino also embraces a new target audience.

In addition, it perfectly embodies FIAT’s commitment to sustainability: thanks to its electric nature, it provides reduced carbon footprint and reduced sound footprint, respecting the sustainability of urban centers. It’s extremely small size does not impact traffic, on the contrary, it makes the Topolino the perfect urban mobility device.

Topolino, the FIAT way

FIAT’s mission is to continue to offer revolutionary urban mobility objects, but, in today’s scenario, with a twist, a different, fresher narrative. With the Topolino, the brand contributes greatly to urban sustainable mobility, making a significant step towards complete electrification. Fiat Topolino will make young people fall in love with “car” again, fascinating Gen Z, a young audience which greatly values sustainability topics with a strong desire for an environmentally friendly driving and transport solution.

Topolino also represents the four-wheeled dream of Riviera enthusiasts, being the perfect vehicle to experience the Italian summer on the narrow roads of the Italian beautiful coastline. An extraordinary duality: ideal for both small seaside villages and the chaotic city centre.

Italian beauty and freedom in its simplicity

The FIAT Topolino is the 500’s little sister, taking its name and design from the original 500, affectionately called ‘Topolino’ because of its small size, enlarging the family and consolidating the leadership in urban sustainable mobility. Its style, like that of its predecessor, is driven by a powerful simplicity: a design that revolves around ‘less is more’ and that heals simplicity as the best companion to its beauty.

Freedom is the key word: share it with your loved ones, drive it everywhere and in any weather conditions and then, park it wherever you want. Compared to a scooter, it represents an infinite range of possibilities. It can be driven despite unfavorable weather conditions, it is safer in its construction, and it allows you to share your journeys with friends or family.

The line-up consists of two different bodies, one “closed” and one “open”, both consistent in their structural characteristics: one color, Verde Vita, one wheel design and one aesthetic approach for the interior.

Thanks to its extremely small size compared to a normal car (2.53 meters in length), its ease of handling and a safe top speed of 28mph, Topolino reignites the desire to travel the roads stress-free. Versatile, the two models feature great electric capability thanks to a 5.5 kWh battery that offers up to 47 miles of range and a less than four-hour time for a full charge. More than what you need for your seaside days or daily rush in the city centers.

Small dimensions, with impressive space habitability, thanks to the two misaligned seats, the extensive glass surface considerably expands the perception of space. Thanks to strategic storage spaces, such as the one between the driver and passenger where one suitcase can be placed, a total of 63 liters of interior storage space is available.

Dolce Vita personalization

Delicate personalization can be added to the Fiat Topolino to emphasize its summery, Riviera character even more: it will, in fact, be possible to add a shower designed for those days spent on the beach along the Italian coast.

The “closed” version can be customized with wooden effect stickers on the doors, while in the “open” version, stickers – with stripes as a summer tent – can be added to the roof giving an extra touch of Dolce Vita. Both versions are equipped with vintage chrome effect mirrors and Rear Carriage Dolce Vita Box, which is an elegant and functional band of fabric inside which personal items can be stored. What differentiates them is the addition of both the Dolcevita Door Sills and Door Rope in the “open” version, and the Roof Sunblind in the closed version.

Moreover, optional accessories will be found on the FIAT Accessories webpage or at FIAT dealerships to satisfy all customers’ needs. Here, five different items will be available, which are perfectly in line with the Topolino style: a spacious rack bag, a USB fan, a Bluetooth speaker, a thermal water bottle for both hot and cold drinks, and two seat covers that convert into comfortable and soft beach towels when required. All of them, obviously, realized in Verde Vita.

Topolino is planned to arrive in the UK in 2024.

Three quarters of UK motorists think Government could do more to help drivers make switch to electric cars

  • Only 15 per cent likely to make switch to electric in next 12 months, FIAT study finds
  • 60 per cent would consider making the switch if the vehicles were cheaper
  • Over 80 per cent of EV drivers say it’s one of the best decisions they’ve made
  • FIAT recently introduced £3,000 FIAT E-Grant for FIAT 500e and 500e Convertible buyers
  • First car manufacturer to launch its own electric car grant in the UK since the Government’s Plug-in Car Grant came to an end 12 months ago

Three quarters of Brits think the Government should be doing more to encourage the switch to electric vehicles (EV) – by offering consumer grants.

A poll of 2,000 adults found 63 per cent consider the retail price to be the biggest downside of EVs.
Just 15 per cent of those who don’t own an EV are ‘likely’ to make the switch within the next 12 months – but 60 per cent would be more inclined to go electric if the vehicles were cheaper.

The study revealed a groundswell of support for the Government’s pledge that all new cars and vans will be required to be ‘fully zero emission at the tailpipe’ by 2035 – with 45 per cent backing the plan.

But just 21 per cent of all adults think the strategy will be successful – 55 per cent don’t think the promise will be fulfilled and 25 per cent are on the fence.

This comes after FIAT launched its own electric car grant, FIAT E-Grant, offering £3,000 towards the all-electric 500e and 500e convertible.

Damien Dally, FIAT UK managing director, said: “EV ownership has increased significantly over the last decade, however, demand is starting to plateau and there is still apprehension among those who’ve yet to go electric.

“As our study shows cost is the biggest stumbling block for consumers, which won’t have been helped by the Government Plug-in Car Grant ending 12 months ago. We are committed to helping people make the switch, that’s why we launched our own grant.’’

The study by FIAT also identified other areas consumers feel require investment from the Government in relation to EVs.

These include charging infrastructure (59 per cent), battery plants in the UK (45 per cent), and tax subsidies (38 per cent).

While 22 per cent believe there should be more money spent on educating as many people as possible on EVs.

Further to this, the research highlighted aspects of electric car ownership which consumers still seem to require further education on.

Such questions include ‘how long does it take to charge an EV?’ (40 per cent), ‘do EV batteries last long?’ (40 per cent), and ‘how much range would an EV really need?’ (30 per cent).

‘Will charging an EV at home raise my electricity bill?’ (27 per cent), ‘does insurance cost more for EVs?’ (26 per cent), and ‘do all EVs use the same charger?’ (23 per cent) are also common queries.

And while 85 per cent of car owners polled are yet to make the switch – possibly with questions like these in the back of their minds – those who’ve gone electric appear to have no regrets.

The study found 81 per cent of those who’ve made the switch consider their decision to be ‘one of the best’ they’ve made.

Dally added: “The research suggests petrol and diesel vehicle users are keen to make the switch to EVs but there is still plenty of uncertainty.

“This underlines why it’s important to incentivise people to make the switch while educating them on the benefits of going electric.”

Goodbye grey, welcome colours

  • ITALY. THE LAND OF COLOURS. FIAT. THE BRAND OF COLOURS”. Today marks a breakthrough for FIAT as it stops producing grey cars and ushers in a brand-new, colourful world.
  • FIAT is the first automotive maker to make this revolutionary decision, starting with the new Fiat 600e.
  • From now on, the colours in the present and future FIAT lineup are inspired by the Italian Sea, Sun, Earth, and Sky.
  • Grey is the most popular colour for new cars in the UK.
  • Mobility is about to become more colourful and cheerful than ever: FIAT is embracing a real challenge, as shown in the dedicated video available here.

Starting today, FIAT will no longer produce grey cars. This decision was made to emphasize the importance of colours in life, embody the Italian way of living, and reaffirm the brand’s new Dolce Vita value.

Italy is closely associated with vibrant colours such as the Sea of Italy, the Sun of Italy, the Earth of Italy, and the Sky of Italy; landscapes that provide FIAT with ample inspiration for its cars. This strategy has been implemented to give FIAT cars a distinctive feature in the automotive market, as 2023 is a year of significant change for the brand.

“We broke the rules: we decided to stop the production of grey FIAT cars. This is a challenging and disruptive move aimed at further reinforcing FIAT’s leadership as the brand of joy, colours, and optimism. Italy is the country of colours and, starting today, FIAT’s cars will be too” declared Olivier Francois, FIAT Chief Executive Officer and Global Chief Marketing Officer at Stellantis. “This choice further communicates the New Dolce Vita values and the Italian DNA embodied by the brand. FIAT wants to inspire people to live with optimism and positivity, and this will also be one of the missions of the new Fiat 600e, the electric car for families and friends, which will be presented on July 4th.”

In the new dedicated video, viewers can discover FIAT’s brand-new colourful world as the brand’s CEO, Olivier Francois, aboard the new Fiat 600e, takes a deep dive into colour under the claim “ITALY. THE LAND OF COLOURS. FIAT. THE BRAND OF COLOURS.”

The current FIAT range – New 500, 500 Hybrid, 500X, Panda, and Tipo – is available in different shades of colours, including Gelato white, Sicilia orange, Paprika orange, Passione red, Blu Dipinto di Blu, Italia blue, Venezia blue, Rugiada green, Foresta green, Rose gold, and Cinema black. All of these colours have evocative names that remind us of Italy’s beautiful landscapes and the Dolce Vita mood.

Grey is the most popular colour for new cars in the UK, according to official registration figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), representing more than one in four new cars sold in the UK in 2022.

Return of the electric car grant: FIAT reveals £3,000 incentive to get Britain’s electric car revolution back on track

  • FIAT introduces £3,000 Fiat E-Grant for Fiat 500e and 500e Convertible buyers
  • Italian car brand writes open letter to UK Government and calls on it to help incentivise drivers to go electric
  • One year ago the Plug-in Car Grant came to an end – while 21 EU member states currently offer incentives to stimulate electric car uptake*
  • Data reveals UK’s electric vehicle sales share has plateaued
  • For more detail on the offer visit here

FIAT has become the first car manufacturer to launch its own electric car grant in the UK since the Government scheme to incentivise car drivers to go electric ended nearly 12 months ago.

At £3,000, the FIAT E-Grant doubles the £1,500 offered at that scheme’s close in June last year and is available on FIAT’s all-electric 500e and 500e Convertible.

The Italian car brand has also written an open letter asking the UK Government to join it in incentivising Britons to make the switch.

Electric vehicle data suggests that the exponential growth of the vehicle segment in the UK is starting to slow**, while some data has revealed that demand for electric cars has fallen 65% year-on-year***.

While the Plug-in Car Grant has been removed, similar schemes continue to operate in 21*

European countries today, with countries such as Germany and Spain offering significant incentives of up to €9,000*.

Damien Dally, Managing Director, FIAT UK, commented: “There’s no doubt the government’s Plug-in Car Grant successfully kickstarted the UK’s electric car revolution – it supported the sale of nearly half a million electric cars.

“We also appreciate it refocusing funding towards one of the main barriers to the electric vehicle transition, public charging.

“However, with the cost-of-living crisis and rising cost of electric vehicles, coupled with our net zero climate targets, we believe more needs to be done to incentivise individuals to be able to afford to make the switch.

“That’s why we’ve taken it upon ourselves to launch the FIAT E-Grant, a £3,000 incentive towards the 500e and 500e Convertible.

“The 500e has won countless industry accolades, it looks great, its compactness suits our busy streets and roads and will certainly put a smile on a driver’s face. We want drivers up and down the country to have a better chance of experiencing that.”

100 Years of Lingotto: the design marker for the future of the FIAT Brand

  • In the 100th anniversary celebration video “Shaping the Future”, Olivier Francois, FIAT CEO, anticipates a vision for future FIAT models.
  • FIAT’s future cars will be inspired by signature aspects of the Lingotto and of the world-famous rooftop track: including its characteristic lightness, optimization of space, and the intensity of its façade.
  • The video features a conversation between Olivier Francois and Ginevra Elkann, President of the Pinacoteca Agnelli, about the Lingotto centenary: starting from its birth and projecting the Lingotto into the brand’s future.

Today, FIAT celebrates the 100th anniversary of the iconic Lingotto: a century has gone by since the fundamental production facility was officially opened on May 22nd, 1923, immediately establishing the location as a major Italian industrial centre. The famous building now has a new life and purpose but continues to be an engine of new ideas and inspiration.

For FIAT, Lingotto is a place where heritage meets the future. In its early days, its iconic structure and features were a manifesto that truly launched FIAT into the 20th century. Today it is again a manifesto of the brand’s renewed vision in the 21st.

In the celebration video “Shaping the Future” Olivier Francois, FIAT CEO and Stellantis Global CMO, takes the opportunity to anticipate some details of the cars that will begin to appear on the market from 2024. The  “Lingotto inspired” theme also makes FIAT’s goal explicit: to inspire change and make a sustainable future accessible to all. Olivier Francois said: “At FIAT we think that the Lingotto and the track are such a landmark that they deserve to become ‘design markers’. Their characteristics have inspired FIAT designers to trace the lines of the future FIAT models, from the incredible roof track, to the ramp – a revolution in the 1920s – which is like a manifesto of our traditional lightness: less material, more space, that’s our vision of interior design moving forward. The oval shape of “La Pista 500” inspires several new interior product marker, while the façade, with the lightness of its windows, will also become a distinctive signature of the future models. I look forward to launching those ‘Lingotto inspired’ models a year from now.”

Ginevra Elkann, President of Pinacoteca Agnelli said: “Today is a special day: the Lingotto was officially opened by my great grandfather, exactly 100 years ago. It was a very proud moment: a huge step forward for FIAT, and for the Italian industry in general. Corbusier called it “one of the most impressive sights industry has ever offered”. The Lingotto has been an icon of Italian production, of renewal and transformation and, still today, it’s an engine for new ideas. In the 80s we were in search of a new purpose, so my grandfather decided to turn it into what you see today: shops, offices, hotels, and culture fulfilled by the artistic mission of Pinacoteca Agnelli.  Recently relaunched through a new ambitious programme of exhibitions and events, the Pinacoteca has become a new destination for a diverse and young public. Thanks to the hanging garden on La Pista 500 with its spectacular art installations, to Casa 500 and its FIATCafé500, Pinacoteca Agnelli is today one of the most visited museums in the city.

The Lingotto building found its new vocation during the 80s when it was inaugurated to the city of Turin and the collection of Giovanni and Marella Agnelli became its symbolic core. Today the opening of La Pista 500  reconnects the public with the original identity of this special site, merging the past with new, fresh, and vital roots.

La Pista 500 is the largest hanging garden in Europe and Casa 500 – welcoming visitors interested in the FIAT icon, art, architecture, and nature – is not just a museum: it’s the beginning of a journey into the future.

As the original, symbolic home of FIAT for a century, the Lingotto is constantly evolving and adapting itself over time, like the FIAT Brand. Innovation, attention to detail and lightness remain at the core of the brand’s future plans, with a strong prioritization of customers’ real needs in an era of continuous change.

“Pandelleria”, where Panda outnumbers people. The film celebrates the FIAT icon and the workers of its plant

  • “Pandelleria” is now online at this FIAT | WELCOME TO PANDELLERIA – YouTube
  • The preview of the docufilm was shared with Pomigliano d’Arco plant workers to thank them for contributing to the Panda’s success.
  • Shot in Pantelleria, where there are “more Panda than people”, it is a tribute to the FIAT icon.
  • After more than 40 successful years and almost 8 million units sold, Fiat Panda is the leading city-car in Europe and the most sold vehicle in Italy.
  • Forever FIAT’s “shining star”, the Panda will continue to light the way to the brand’s future.

FIAT has paid tribute to the employees of the Giambattista Vico plant in Pomigliano d’Arco, the production site of the timeless Panda, one of the most famous symbols of Made-In-Italy manufacturing throughout the world. Indeed, they are the “artisans” of a successful model, which, along with the iconic 500, has led FIAT to European leadership in the city-car segment. To celebrate and engage its community, FIAT has created the docufilm “Pandelleria,” which, as the title suggests, was shot in Pantelleria, the Sicilian Island famous for its naturalistic beauty and also for being the place with the highest density of Panda in the world.

Olivier Francois, FIAT CEO and Stellantis Global CMO, stated, “After 43 years, Fiat Panda is the leading city-car in Europe and the most sold vehicle in Italy, where it scores a brilliant 8% market share on the overall market, contributing significantly to Stellantis’ performance in the country. To celebrate this genuine symbol of Made-In-Italy manufacturing and to thank the workers at the incredible production site of Pomigliano d’Arco, we have made the docufilm “Pandelleria”. A full preview has been shared one week ago with all workers as a sign of gratitude: they have put an incredible amount of passion and professionality into their work to make sure that Panda’s success never ends. In fact, Panda represents the Italian mover and it will continue to be well in the next years.”.

Set in the middle of the Mediterranean, where Panda of all ages, configurations and colors run all around the island, the docufilm interweaves the beauty and colors of the island with stories of the daily lives of its inhabitants, in which the Panda is ever-present as an inseparable companion.

The 30-minute film shows 14 residents of Pantelleria, who recount their love for the three generations of the Panda. Among them, we find a spiritual guide, a beekeeper, a farmer, a mechanic, a priest, a musician, and many others. All united by their love for the island and for the Fiat Panda, which helps them in their daily activities thanks to its versatility and functionality. Their stories are an emblematic example of the “Panda people” who have chosen and loved this vehicle for its simplicity and affordability. A fun and surreal journey to discover the inhabitants of this small community and their bond with the FIAT icon.
The docufilm was conceived by the Publicis Groupe’s agencies, Leo Burnett and Publicis Sapient, and produced by Twister Film with the direction of the famous documentarian Giovanni Troilo (known for “Power of Rome” and “Vesuvio or: How They Learned to Live Between Volcanoes”).

In addition, exclusively for the Italian market, the project will be amplified thanks to the collaboration with the content creator Gabriele Vagnato, who has produced a series of pills to enrich the stories narrated in the documentary. His ironic and funny interpretation aims to involve the new generations also through the genuinity of the Panda.

The social campaign embodies the essence of Panda, bringing together, in the same idea, two different languages: the documentary on one side and the social contents on the other, in this way speaking to all generations – only how Panda can – maintaining a light and sunny tone of voice.

“Giambattista Vico” Stellantis plant in Pomigliano d’Arco

One of the Group’s most advanced production sites, it was inaugurated in 1972 and starting from 2011 it has been assembling the Fiat Panda. A symbol of Made in Italy located in Pomigliano d’Arco, in the nearby of Naples. The industrial complex has won numerous international awards and today continues its drive to reduce the environmental impact of production via continuous improvements, including responsible consumption of energy and water, and quality air and waste management.
