Porsche 911 Slant Nose Wins Award For 1980s-Inspired Makeover

A custom 1988 Porsche 930 Turbo Slantnose, created by Porsche Santa Clarita dealer, has been recognized for its 1980s style. The vehicle won the People’s Choice and Kids’ Choice awards at the Porsche Classic Restoration Challenge held during the Werks Reunion event in Monterey, California.

The car was not always as wild-looking as it is now. Originally, Porsche Santa Clarita found the vehicle in a damaged state, suffering from fire and corrosion. The imperfect condition of the Porsche 911 made it a perfect candidate for a complete makeover.

First drive: 2024 Porsche Panamera prototype

The 2024 Porsche Panamera prototype delivers a sporty and powerful driving experience, particularly with its Turbo E-Hybrid model. In Hybrid mode, the engine and motor work together seamlessly, providing excellent everyday drivability and impressive performance. Acceleration is quick, and there’s no need to downshift to maintain momentum.

Despite the return to single-scroll turbos, the new motor compensates for any lag in power delivery, resulting in smooth and linear acceleration at high speeds.

The Panamera prototype boasts a fully variable four-wheel drive system and torque vectoring, ensuring strong traction in all driving conditions.

Additionally, the car offers a refined driving experience. The engine noise is well isolated from the cabin, creating a quiet and comfortable environment for long journeys.

The handling and ride quality of the Panamera prototype are exceptional. The car exhibits agile dynamics and remains composed even on uneven roads, despite its hefty weight of over 2.3 tonnes.

Porsche plans to introduce two air suspension options for the new Panamera: a standard dual-chamber setup and a single-chamber setup, similar to the one used in the Cayenne. Both options feature faster-reacting twin-stage dampers that can be individually adjusted for a more progressive and smoother ride.

The steering of the Panamera prototype is precise, and its agility is enhanced by the rear-wheel steering system.

Equipped with 20-inch Michelin Pilot Sport tires (275/40 front and 315/35 rear), the Panamera prototype offers exceptional grip, thanks to the combination of the tires and the variable properties of the four-wheel drive system.

While there are still some minor improvements to be made before production, the performance and dynamics of the new Panamera are already exceptional.

Watch the First Run of a Custom Turbo Hayabusa Hybrid VW Pickup

In July 2023, Rich Rebuilds gave us a sneak peek at their latest project: a turbo Suzuki Hayabusa Volkswagen Rabbit pickup. The idea was to take a lightweight VW Caddy from the 80s, install a Gen One Hayabusa engine in the bed, and make it a mid-engine truck. Sounds simple, right? Well, not really.

Problem-solving has been a major theme in the past two episodes of this series. In the previous episode, they encountered issues with mounting the ‘Busa engine due to the angle not aligning with the driveshaft. They also had to address the lack of a reverse gear and the imbalance caused by the rear-wheel power. But the team has been hard at work finding solutions.

One solution they came up with was to convert the VW into a hybrid electric vehicle. They added an electric motor and battery setup to power the front wheels and handle reverse gear duties. This solved the problem of reversing and improved control of the front end.

Another major breakthrough was the decision to cut out the entire bed and create a subframe to mount the ‘Busa engine lower down. This allowed for better shaft angle and the possibility of incorporating a fuel cell.

In the latest video, we get to witness the Turbo Hayabusa Hybrid VW Caddy Pickup running under its own power. Although the engine and electric motor are not connected yet, the build is coming together nicely. There are still some challenges to overcome, such as figuring out how to shift the ‘Busa engine, but the Rich Rebuilds team is up for the task. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting project!

Porsche 911 Drag Races Taycan And Panamera In Turbo S Fight

Porsche has been using the Turbo S name on its combustion-powered vehicles, as well as on the electric Taycan. Despite the absence of an actual turbocharger in an electric car, Turbo S now signifies a certain level of performance in Porsche’s lineup. The 911 and Panamera models also offer a more powerful Turbo S version.

The team at Autocar India decided to test the performance of the Turbo S models with a standing-start drag race between the Taycan, Panamera, and 911. While these three vehicles are very different, they are all extremely quick on the drag strip. Let’s take a look at the numbers to see which car has the advantage.

The Panamera Turbo S is equipped with a 4.0-liter V8 engine producing 630 horsepower and 605 pound-feet of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic gearbox. The car weighs 4,586 pounds (2,080 kilograms).

The Taycan Turbo S is the heaviest among the three, weighing 5,060 lbs (2,295 kg). However, it is also the most powerful, with a peak output of 761 horsepower (625 hp without overboost) and 774 lb-ft of instant torque. This power is generated by a dual-motor electric setup paired with a two-speed automatic transmission.

Lastly, the 911 Turbo S is the lightest of the trio at 3,615 lbs (1,640 kg). It boasts 650 horsepower from a 3.8-liter turbocharged boxer engine and sends power to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Now that you have all the basic numbers, which car is your favorite? If you’ve seen previous drag races involving these three vehicles, you probably have an idea of their speed. Feel free to place your bets in the comments section below.

Amazing Drag Race: Modified Nissan GT-R with 1,000 HP Competes Against 900-HP Porsche 911 Turbo S and 950-HP Audi R8

The Nissan GT-R, Audi R8, and Porsche 911 Turbo S are high-performance cars known for their impressive power. These vehicles come with powerful engines that can often lead to high insurance rates. However, some drivers still seek more power by tuning their cars. In this thrilling drag race, three modified versions of these cars went head-to-head.

The GT-R had the highest power output among the three and was also the heaviest. Equipped with a 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine, the GT-R produced a staggering 1,000 horsepower and 811 pound-feet (1,100 Newton-meters) of torque. Power was sent to all four wheels through the six-speed dual-clutch gearbox. The GT-R weighed in at 4,100 pounds (1,860 kilograms).

Porsche Cayenne Plug-In Hybrid V8 Hot Version With 700+ HP Confirmed

Porsche has confirmed that they will be introducing a new hot version of the Cayenne SUV with a plug-in hybrid V8 engine. This model will be the most powerful Cayenne ever made, boasting over 700 horsepower.

The 2024 Cayenne lineup already includes the Turbo GT, which is currently the top performer. However, due to stricter emissions regulations, this model is not available for purchase in Europe. To address this, Porsche is developing an alternative option in the form of a plug-in hybrid V8 model.

Although the name for this new model has not yet been announced, it is expected to offer more than 700 horsepower, making it even more powerful than the current Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid which has around 670 horsepower.

With this impressive power output, the plug-in hybrid Cayenne will likely deliver exceptional performance. It is projected to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 3.3 seconds and achieve a top speed of 190 mph (305 km/h).

By combining the power of a V8 engine with the efficiency of a plug-in hybrid system, Porsche aims to create a high-performance SUV that satisfies both power enthusiasts and those concerned with emissions regulations.

Porsche 911 Turbo S Modified by Brabus with Aggressive Kit and Upgraded to 900 HP

The Porsche 911 Turbo is widely regarded as the ultimate modern sports car, offering both track-worthy performance and everyday comfort. It’s a versatile machine that can even be transformed into an overlanding camper, as demonstrated by Porsche’s CEO Oliver Blume who camped in a rooftop tent during the Le Mans endurance race. However, when it comes to pushing the limits, Stuttgart’s coupe can be transformed into a true monster with the right upgrades.

Brabus is renowned for its expertise in performance modifications, and although they don’t often choose Porsche as their tuning subject, the results are always exceptional when they do. This holds true for their latest creation, the Brabus 900 Rocket R, which is based on the Porsche 911 Turbo S.

Dodge Turbo Interceptor From The Wraith Built On Porsche Boxster Chassis

The Dodge Turbo Interceptor from the movie “The Wraith” may not be as well-known as the Bullitt Mustang or Eleanor from “Gone in 60 Seconds”, but it is just as impressive and cool. Surprisingly, there are very few replicas of the Interceptor, making this one built on a Porsche Boxster chassis even more remarkable.

“The Wraith” is a forgettable 1980s movie that follows the typical storyline of a teenage protagonist coming of age, dying, coming back to life for revenge, and winning the girl’s heart. It stars a young Charlie Sheen and Sherilyn Fenn. The real attraction of the movie, however, is the Dodge Turbo Interceptor.

Originally created by Chrysler as a concept vehicle and Indy pace car prototype, the Dodge Interceptor M4S was a mid-engine sports car with a powerful engine. It featured a specially modified version of a 2.2-liter four-cylinder engine, equipped with dual overhead camshafts, sixteen valves, and twin Garrett turbochargers, producing an impressive 440 horsepower.

Unfortunately, the Dodge Interceptor never actually paced an Indy Car race, and Chrysler never put it into production as a limited-run vehicle. As a result, there are very few replicas and only one original running prototype known to exist. Nevertheless, someone managed to build an exact replica of the Interceptor, which is truly remarkable.

This tribute car perfectly recreates the dimensions of the original Dodge Interceptor. However, if you look beyond the bodywork, you’ll notice that it is a clever blend of various other cars. For instance, the door handles come from an Aston Martin, the seats are from an Audi, and the dashboard and underlying structure are unmistakably from a first-generation Porsche Boxster.

Despite the mashup of different car components, this replica captures the essence of the original Dodge Interceptor. The interior, complete with a Porsche Boxster dashboard, has a futuristic appearance with a customized instrument cluster. What sets this replica apart is that it is not just a movie prop but a street-legal car that is regularly driven.
