Nick Yelloly (GBR) and Connor De Phillippi (USA) began the 100-minute race from second place however initially fell again throughout their pit cease in a yellow flag interval and later resulting from a broken entrance on the tight avenue circuit in California. While Philipp Eng (AUT) and Jesse Krohn (FIN) within the #24 BMW M Hybrid V8 completed in sixth place, Turner Motorsport celebrated a podium within the GTD class .

In the third race of the season, following the endurance classics at Daytona and Sebring (each USA), BMW M Team RLL was denied the primary podium of the 12 months 2024 regardless of the sturdy tempo of the BMW M Hybrid V8. In the primary half of the race, Yelloly held his floor within the main group and even took the lead. However, a yellow flag simply earlier than the deliberate pit cease for the #25 BMW M Hybrid V8, which introduced the sphere again collectively, resulted in De Phillippi falling again to fifth place. There, he was repeatedly concerned in tight duels, resulting in collisions and in the end a broken entrance that needed to be modified within the pits. A number of laps earlier than the tip, the race for automobile #25 ended after a slip into the tyre obstacles. De Phillippi and Yelloly have been categorized ninth within the GTP class. Reactions after the race:

Andreas Roos (Head of BMW M Motorsport): “Part one of the first double-header with our BMW M Hybrid V8 in the IMSA series and the FIA WEC unfortunately did not bring the hoped-for first podium of the season. After starting from second place and showing strong pace in the race, the positions of sixth and ninth are disappointing. Nevertheless, it is good to see that our LMDh car is competitive on all tracks and over all race distances in its second year in the IMSA series. We will continue to work hard to reward ourselves with corresponding results. The next opportunity to do so will be in May at Laguna Seca. Congratulations to Turner Motorsport, Robby Foley, and Patrick Gallagher on the podium in the GTD class. I am pleased to see that the circuit in Long Beach continues to be good ground for the BMW M4 GT3 after the last two years’ victories.”

Jesse Krohn (#24 BMW M Hybrid V8, sixth place): “The field was so close together that it was extremely difficult to move forward. Due to the yellow flags, the lapping of the GTD drivers, which we had hoped to take advantage of, did not come into play as expected. That is of course disappointing because the performance of the car was much better than the result. At least we took some points. Now we focus on Laguna Seca.”

Nick Yelloly (#25 BMW M Hybrid V8, ninth place): “The race did not go well. My stint was okay, even though I was unlucky once when lapping and lost a place because of it, but the yellow flag just before our pit stop put us on the back foot. We wanted to make up ground with a late stop, but the regrouping of the field nullified this strategy. We had a very strong car here in qualifying, and we were also among the fastest in the race when we could run freely. Especially in the corners, we were better than our competitors. We will continue to work on improving even further.”

Jeep Avenger e-Hybrid evaluate

The e-Hybrid’s engine seems slightly measly on paper, and with a 0-62mph dash of 10.9sec, it received’t be successful any dash races any time quickly. But it is torquey off the road, bolstered by an E-Boost function that provides 40lb ft of torque for an additional push in acceleration.

It additionally feels gutsier than the figures recommend within the mid-range. Indeed, Jeep says the e-Hybrid provides 30% sooner acceleration between 30-60mph than the guide petrol Avenger.

This is felt once you’re travelling on sooner B-roads and motorways. However, the gearbox can disappoint, not shifting up or down once you want it to.

Things can sound fairly gruff once you put your foot down too, which is not excellent when the Avenger Electric provides near-silent serenity.

The e-Hybrid can drive for as much as 1km (0.6 miles) on electrical energy alone, which is greater than most delicate hybrids however a good distance wanting a superb full hybrid system like Toyota’s.

Still, it is available in helpful once you’re manoeuvring or driving round city, and it’s right here the place the e-Hybrid excels, providing a refined and quiet driving expertise when taking off from a set of lights or trundling via visitors.

If you’ll use your Avenger Electric primarily on the town, the cheaper e-Hybrid would make an acceptable different.

We’re but to pattern the guide petrol, however this evaluate shall be up to date as quickly as we get our fingers on one.

Here are some quotes from the team after the Zandvoort races:

Vincent Vosse, BMW M Team WRT Team Principal: “Finishing the season with a double podium and winning the drivers’ championship in the gold class is a great feeling. Although we didn’t win the overall championship, we have learned a lot and will come back stronger next year.”

Valentino Rossi (#46 BMW M4 GT3): “Yesterday was very good, reaching our third podium of the season. It was a great race. Today we expected more as we started from pole position and Max was flying, especially in the dry. But unfortunately, heavy rain made me struggle with the wet tires. I made a mistake near the end and lost three positions. Nevertheless, the season was good, and I would like to thank Max and the whole team.”

Maxime Martin (#46 BMW M4 GT3): “It was a good final weekend. Yesterday’s podium was the highlight, starting from 15th and ending on the podium. Today was more unfortunate, but we still scored some points. We had a good sprint championship, and now we will see what next season brings.”

Dries Vanthoor (#32 BMW M4 GT3): “It wasn’t the weekend we hoped for, but ending on a positive note is good. Yesterday’s race eliminated our chances for the championship. Today we had nothing to lose, so we went all out and gave a P2 finish to the team. It was a nice Sunday for the whole team.”

Calan Williams (#30 BMW M4 GT3): “The day started fantastic with qualifying and then a podium finish. It’s amazing! Well done to Niklas as well. We were behind in the championship, but we gave it our all.”
