“S” badged Audis are mechanically upgraded, high-performance versions of their regular line-up of cars. Kind of like Audi’s own AMG or M-Division. The Audi S8 is the performance variant of their full-size luxury sedan, the A8, fitted with Audi’s Quattro all-wheel drive system as standard. The Audi S8 ticks so many boxes for enthusiasts seeking a true performance sedan: it has a naturally-aspirated 4.2L V-8 with over 360 horsepower, it was available as a manual, it has independent double wishbone suspension, it has an AWD system and aluminum construction for all-weather practicality, and it currently sits at a very reasonable price point. One must be aware that the A8 and S8 were technologically advanced cars for the time, thus keep an eye out for any potential problems that could eventually affect their longevity.

BMW M2

The BMW M2 is known for its fast and smooth performance. The 3.0-litre straight six engine produces a distinct BMW combustion note that sounds incredible. The manual gearlever has a slightly heavy feel but adds to the overall experience of driving the M2.

Unlike the automatic version, the manual M2 doesn’t come with electronic launch control. It has a 10-stage electronic traction control system that can be accessed when the DSC stability control is switched off. Finding the right balance on the traction control is crucial to get the maximum power from the M2 without losing grip. The car can accelerate from 0 to 60mph in 4.5 seconds, almost matching the official acceleration claim of 4.3 seconds.

The M2’s straight six engine offers a broad operating range and linear power delivery, similar to the M3 and M4. The turbo response is quick, with minimal latency if the revs are kept above 3000rpm. The engine can rev up to 7000rpm without feeling strained.

In terms of gearing, the M2 feels long-geared, allowing you to reach high speeds in lower gears. Second gear can take you past 70mph, while third can go well beyond 100mph. Fourth gear is sufficient for normal driving, except on the motorway.

The M2’s chassis provides great mechanical grip, which is evident during stopping distance tests. It offers good lateral grip and remains stable even at high speeds. While the higher mechanical grip level makes it slightly less accessible for on-demand oversteer, the M2 can still be hooliganistic with the help of adjustable driver aids and linear torque delivery.

The M2 demonstrates strong tenacity during stopping distance tests, indicating improved mechanical grip compared to previous models. Although the chassis response is not as agile as the older M2, the car exhibits excellent grip during turn-in and avoids steady-state understeer even at high speeds.

The M2’s high mechanical grip encourages early power application and allows both axles to remain in control. While it may be slightly heavier when sliding, the adjustable driver aids and torque delivery make it a fun and spirited car to drive.

Natural, recycled and certified materials
This reinterpretation of luxury means that excess and conventional fabric make way for circularity and the progressive Nordico material.

The Nordico upholstery, created from textiles made from recycled material such as PET bottles, as well as bio-attributed polymer from forests in Sweden and Finland, sets a new standard for premium interior design.

“Our designers have put so much effort into designing the grain you can feel on the surface of the Nordico material,” says Lisa Reeves, referring to the intricate texture of ridges and valleys – like miniature landscapes.

Another EX90 upholstery option is our Nativa™-certified wool blend seat finishing, a fabric certified according to strict sustainability standards on animal welfare, environmental, and social issues. It has also obtained the Performance Certification from the Woolmark Company.

Together with FSC™-certified wood panels around the cabin and carpets partly consisting of regenerated polyamide, these material choices make sure that the Volvo EX90 consists of almost 50 kilogrammes of recycled plastics and bio-based materials – the highest amount of non-primary fossil-based materials in our line-up of cars.

The Volvo EX90 also allows you to customize your car’s interior by choosing between seven different ‘rooms’. Inspired by the Scandinavian lifestyle and its close connection to nature, each room provides a different mood, thanks to our designers’ thoughtful selection of color, upholstery, and material finish. And with the SunLike LEDs lighting the cabin with near-sunlight and enabling a more natural color expression, the wood deco and progressive materials of the Volvo EX90 stand out more clearly.
