Zeekr X

The interior of the Zeekr X follows the BYD philosophy of covering everything in synthetic leather to create a premium look. While it’s an improvement over hard plastic, it may lean towards kitsch and might not age well. However, there are some unique details such as vertical bars of mood lighting, rounded window switches, and an innovative multilevel center console with a fold-out cupholder and roller shutter.

As is often the case with Chinese cars, the Zeekr X prioritizes rear legroom over boot space. Nonetheless, the boot space is still adequate, measuring at 362 liters. Zeekr has also done away with physical buttons in favor of a 14.6-inch central touchscreen, heavily inspired by Tesla’s system. While the touchscreen is responsive, it can feel a bit overwhelming, with some menus not functioning intuitively.

Thankfully, the Zeekr X offers integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which are well-integrated into the system. The driving position is crossover-appropriate, providing a tall-ish viewpoint. However, the seats, although generally comfortable, have aggressive lumbar support that can be uncomfortable, even when set to the lowest setting.

Wild School Bus Camper Is Part Mad Max, Part Star Wars, All Awesome

School bus conversions have become popular in the tiny home/vanlife community due to their affordability and size, which is comparable to a studio apartment. These buses provide a blank canvas for creative individuals to design unique living spaces. One exceptional example is this bus conversion that combines elements of Mad Max and Star Wars, resulting in a truly one-of-a-kind vehicle.

Gordon, the owner of this remarkable bus, acquired it from a school district auction for just over two thousand dollars. Initially, he didn’t have a concrete plan for the bus conversion but had a few ideas for ensuring its versatility and practicality. While Gordon doesn’t live in the bus full-time, he utilizes it for his business and works out of it.

Back to School: Toyota Supports Students in Need

To help students in need as the new school year starts, Toyota employees across the country are giving back.

For the second consecutive year, Toyota partnered with the Kids In Need Foundation (KINF) for the Big Summer Giveback. This national service and parts promotion allowed Toyota customers to donate $3 to KINF’s Supply a Student program during their August oil change appointment.

The program aims to provide school supplies to children in under-resourced elementary schools nationwide.

This year’s results:

  • 429 Toyota dealerships raised over $600,000.
  • 21 dealers donated $10,000 or more each.
  • More than 24,000 elementary students benefited from the initiative.

Dealers will personally deliver the donated backpacks filled with school supplies to students at an elementary school in their community.

“Toyota is delighted to announce our continued support of KINF for the second year of our Big Summer Giveback campaign,” said Mark Nazario, Vice President of Guest Experience and Retention at Toyota Motor North America. “Together, we are committed to empowering students in under-resourced schools nationwide, ensuring every child receives an equal opportunity to thrive in their classrooms.”

Toyota employees also volunteered over the summer to pack backpacks with school supplies during an event at the company’s headquarters in Plano.

Social Innovation and nonprofit organization Team IMPACT organized a June event where 76 volunteers packed 450 backpacks. These backpacks were then delivered in July to the Boys and Girls Club of Collin County.

In addition, in July, 17 employees stuffed over 300 backpacks at Community Partners of Dallas, an event also hosted by Social Innovation and Team IMPACT.

Isuzu 4WD Box Truck Camper Is The Ultimate Stealth Off-Road RV

School bus camper conversions are quite popular, but there aren’t as many DIY box truck builds. At first glance, this plain white Isuzu looks like a regular work truck. That’s exactly what the owner wants people to think, because the interior is far from work-related.

Shared on YouTube by Tiny House Giant Journey, this camper is the full-time home for builder Luke and his daughter. It was built four years ago, and so far Luke has invested around $54,000 in it. This includes the 2007 Isuzu NPR, which is equipped with four-wheel drive. The cab is not luxurious, and it can be a bit noisy while traveling, but it has a simple 4WD system and an engine that’s easy to service. This makes it surprisingly capable in urban environments with tight spaces and off-road as a legitimate overlanding RV.

Isuzu Custom Camper

But the mechanical details aren’t the main focus here. Luke built the living space from scratch to make it an all-season home. He and his daughter love the outdoors, so he incorporated mounts for bicycles and skis near the front and rear doors. Instead of a garage space at the back, there’s a removable table and a futon that converts into a queen bed. The open space also features a massive glass door that’s revealed when the standard cargo door is opened. As an additional bonus, the electric lift ramp normally used for loading cargo now serves as a back porch.

Moving forward, the kitchen area makes use of a large toolbox that doubles as cabinet space with a countertop. An old-school entertainment center functions as storage for the refrigerator and electrical system, including a bank of batteries and a 3,000-watt inverter. Across from that is a sink and a two-burner gas stove with a hood vent. This is also where the wood stove is located, which adds ambiance and warmth to the camper.

The front of the camper serves as the main bedroom with two large beds for Luke and his daughter. It also houses a fully enclosed bathroom with a spacious shower and a toilet with a bidet. Three tank heaters keep the water warm in the winter, powered by a large propane tank that rarely needs refilling.

According to the video, maintaining the worn look of the Isuzu’s exterior is essential for parking in places where regular RVs wouldn’t be allowed. The downside is the lack of windows unless the cargo door is open, but Luke says that the stealth aspect is crucial for comfort in various locations. It’s definitely one of the coolest camper builds that combines both utility and a stealthy exterior.

Small Bus Camper Conversion Is an Impressive Home for a Family of Four

Converting old school buses into full-time tiny homes is a popular trend worldwide. While most conversions are done by individuals or couples opting for vanlife, there are some exceptions, like this young family who chose to adventure in a small bus. Don’t let the size fool you though, as this clever conversion is surprisingly spacious inside.

The Chandlers, a new family to the scene, shared their project with Tiny Home Tours on YouTube. Their converted International 3800 bus is far from entry-level. They raised the roof to create space for a loft over the cab and a king-size bed at the rear. The garage area underneath the bed serves as a space for their two large dogs. This is an impressive feat for even seasoned bus builders, let alone skoolie newbies.

School Bus Camper Conversion

Between the loft and the cab is a kitchen that resembles a sizable apartment rather than a small bus. It features a counter, a full-size refrigerator/freezer, a farm sink that doubles as a small bathtub for the kids, a four-burner stove and oven, and additional countertop space that can be added when needed. The kitchen also includes a trash compactor and a special coffee nook that can be operated using an app. This family may be living on the road, but they definitely aren’t sacrificing comfort.

Opposite the kitchen is a small living space with a table for eating and activities. The full bathroom includes a stand-up shower and a toilet. The bus has a 100-gallon fresh water tank and a 40-gallon gray water tank. On the roof, there are 600 watts of solar power and a deck for relaxation. However, the retractable flat-screen TV and king-size bed in the loft above the cab also provide a cozy space to unwind. The back of the bus has curtains for privacy, while the loft is dedicated to the kids.

The Chandlers, also known as The Sundance Bus, are documenting their adventures on YouTube and Instagram. The embedded post above offers a glimpse into their ongoing journey, including the process of removing and raising the roof of the bus. While not an easy task, the final result is truly amazing.

According to the video, the Chandlers plan to add more power and potentially revise their water setup in the future. For now, they are incredibly happy with their customized home on wheels.

Tour A Tiny Ford Transit Connect Cozy Camper Conversion

In the world of homebuilt campers, vehicles like school buses and Mercedes-Sprinters are often used as a starting point. However, Terri, the woman behind the Misty Miles YouTube channel, took a different approach by converting a 2010 Ford Transit Connect into a micro RV.

The Ford Transit Connect that Terri used for her conversion is a long-wheelbase, high-roof model. According to a brochure from that period, it has a cargo volume of 131 cubic feet (3.7 cubic meters), which increases to 152 cubic feet (4.3 cubic meters) when the front passenger seat is folded. Despite its small size, Terri managed to make the most of this space.

Terri purchased the Transit Connect on eBay without seeing it firsthand. She bid for it while driving and ended up paying just 2,800 pounds ($3,557) for the vehicle. She affectionately named her new motorhome Blanche.

The conversion process began with insulating the cargo area to improve climate control. The insulation has proven effective, allowing Terri to live in Blanche during the freezing temperatures of February in Scotland. Surprisingly, there is no heating system installed in the camper.

Terri made the interior of the van cozy by utilizing inexpensive materials. For example, she created the countertop using pieces of pallets, and her bookshelf is made from the same wood and a stick. She even built a shelf using just a length of wood and some rope. Her sink is a waterproofed bamboo bowl with a hole in the bottom.

The camper features a couch that extends to become a bed, providing enough space for Terri to sleep comfortably. However, it can be tight if two people share the bed.

Underneath the couch, there are drawers for additional storage. A cupboard in the front is large enough to fit her duvet. There is also a dedicated area for the battery that powers the lights and other utilities in the van. Terri plans to install a second battery soon to meet her power needs more efficiently.

Terri documents her travels around Europe and Scotland with Blanche on the Misty Miles YouTube channel. Her most recent video features the tiny country of Liechtenstein. She also shares photos of her adventures on her Instagram page.
