10 Best Cars From Companies That No Longer Exist

Most people believe that Henry Ford founded the first American car manufacturer because of his assembly line innovations and the enduring legacy of his namesake vehicles. In reality, brothers Charles and Frank of Springfield, Massachusetts started the Duryea Motor Wagon Company in 1893, becoming the first American company to build and sell internal combustion engine vehicles to the public. A one-cylinder four-horsepower Duryea Motor Wagon didn’t have a steering wheel, suspension, or breaks, but by process of elimination, it was the best available and sold 10 vehicles in its first year.

Since that time, hundreds, if not thousands of car companies have been formed in the U.S. and around the world, disappearing as fast as they sprung up. Except for the Tucker Torpedo, which was shut down by dirty politics, most of these flash-in-the-pan automakers died off because they made unappealing garbage cars. Probably only Jay Leno knows or cares what a 1909 De Shaum Seven Little Buffaloes is, and there are hundreds more just as obscure.

On the other hand there have been some really great car companies that lasted decades, which built great rides. Many of these automakers existed until just recently with people both remembering and still driving their cars. It’s tempting to include the DeLoreon Motor Company in this group because of the Back to the Future movie fame of the DMC-12, but honestly, that wasn’t a very good set of wheels. Instead, here are some of the best cars made by companies that no longer exist.

10 1970 Mercury Cougar Eliminator

Created by Edsel Ford in 1939, Mercury was a division of the Ford Motor Company. It served as the mid-priced brand between the high-end Lincolns and the affordable Fords. Finding its groove in the 1950s, a Mercury Monterey, Turnpike Cruiser, or Colony Park harkens as much nostalgia for the decade as a Chevrolet Bel Air. With declining sales, Mercury tried one last-ditch effort to attract female buyers, but that failed and Ford finally shut the division down in 2011.

The Mercury Cougar was based on the Ford Mustang, but intended to be a more luxurious pony car. It was a little more expensive, but better equipped and won the Motortrend Car of the Year award in 1967. One the coolest examples was the 1970 Cougar Eliminator, with its muscular styling and a standard 290 horsepower Boss 302 V-8. What really put this car over the top was the optional 428 Cobra Jet, cranking out 335 horsepower and 445 pound-feet of torque.

Saab Automobile was a Swedish automaker, founded in 1945 to manufacture weird-looking but reliable vehicles. As one of the most innovative companies ever, they developed many safety and performance features we take for granted like standard seat belts, asbestos-free brake pads, and heated seats. GM bought up the company in 1989, ran it into the ground, and then sold it where it died off. Saab briefly became an EV under the company NEVS, but finally ceased to exist in 2016.

Over the years, Saab had made some pretty quick four-cylinder turbo cars, but again, they were kind of odd looking. Toward the end of their run they finally made an attractive model in the luxury SUV, 9 7X, and discovered the joys of V-8 power. In 2008 they created the 9 7X Aero trim, which came with a 6.0-liter SL2 V-8 that generated 390 horsepower and 395 pound-feet of torque. At the time, Car and Driver announced, “The Swedes go all American on us” and proclaimed the 9 7X Aero better than the Chevrolet Trailblazer SS.

Known mostly for building farm equipment and tractors, The International Harvester Company had actually been producing road vehicles since its founding in 1902. Their line of pickup trucks and SUVs were successful from the ’50s to the 80s, but somehow the company was always in financial trouble. After selling off much of their assets, including their name, IH became Navistar in 1985, still making commercial trucks, but discontinuing their consumer vehicles.

IH made some crazy rides like the explanation-defying Jungle Yacht, but mostly they built rugged, reliable off-roaders such as the first-of-its-kind 1953 Travelell four-wheel-drive “recreational” vehicle. The best however was the International Harvester Scout, produced from 1961-1980, and the top of that class was the 1968 Scout 800A. Equipped with an optional 302ci V-8, this 4×4 is still sought after today, with Florida company, Velocity Modern Classics producing high-end resto-mods of the classic vehicle.

Founded in 1921 by Brothers Alan and Richard Jensen, Jensen Motors Limited was a British maker of sports cars and commercial vehicles. They hit the big time in 1934 when actor Clark Gable commissioned a car from them, which led to a joint venture with Ford and international renown. The company ran into some financial issues and ceased operations in 1976. After a couple of unsuccessful attempts to revive the brand, it was finally dissolved in 2011.

Easily the coolest thing Jensen ever made was the Interceptor, which they produced from 1966-1976. Made for speed and long-distance driving, the 1971 Jensen Interceptor MkII came optional with a Chrysler 440ci V-8 Six-Pack, that was slightly detuned but still produced 350 horsepower. With a 6.0 second 0-60 mph time and a top speed of 144 mph, it’s the closest think to a muscle car ever built in Europe.

The Olds Motor Vehicle Company was founded by Ransom E. Olds in 1897 and was for a time the top-selling American car brand. By 1908, General Motors bought up the company, which became their mid-level Oldsmobile division. Known in later years for making “grandpa cars,” it was actually a hot brand in the 60s and 70s. As much as GM tried to shake the fuddy duddy image, sales continued on a steady decline, and it was axed in 2004.

During that period when it truly wasn’t “your father’s Oldsmobile” they managed to make one of the most ferocious muscle cars of the classic era. Introduced as an option package for the Cutlass in 1964, the Oldsmobile 4-4-2 became its own model in 1968. Also in 1968, a special performance package, known as the Hurst/Olds came with a beefed up 455ci V-8 that cranked out 390 horsepower. For those curious as to why it was called a 4-4-2, it’s because it came with a four-barrel carb, four-speed manual transmission, and had a dual (two) exhaust system.

Holden started out in 1905 as a car upholstery repair business and eventually grew into GM’s presence in Australia and New Zealand. Though many of their models were Aussie copies of GM cars, they also made their own market-specific vehicles. Despite selling over seven million sets of wheels in their storied history, GM announced it would no longer be in the business of making right-hand drive vehicles and shuttered Holden in 2020.

The Holden HQ was a series of Aussie exclusive vehicles made from 1971 to 1974 that ranged from four-door sedans to pannel vans. Within that range were some pretty awesome two-coupes like the 1972 HQ Monaro GTS 350. With a big-block Chevy 350ci V-8 and an optional four-speed transmission, it was one of the fastest muscle cars ever produced Down Under. It was such a cool and memorable ride that it got some love by being included in the Forza Horizon 3 video game.

4 1969 Pontiac GTO Judge

In 1907, Edward Murphy founded The Oakland Motor Car Company in Pontiac, Michigan and a couple years later it was bought by GM. The division’s most popular car was the Pontiac Series 6-27 and by 1931, Oakland was canceled and replaced by Pontiac. For most of its run, Pontiac was GM’s second-tier brand, above Chevrolet, but below Oldsmobile, Buick, and Cadillac. The great recession of 2008 hit all the American automakers hard and with GM, caused them to shed several divisions, including Pontiac in 2010.

That was certainly a sad end to a company with so much rich history, including inventing the muscle car. In 1964, then-head of Pontiac, John DeLoreon, had the genius idea of shoe-horning a 400ci V-8 into a La Mans. It was such a smashing success that by 1966, the GTO became its own model, instead of an option package. The most powerful of the bunch came in the second generation, and the 1969 GTO Judge is a perfect example. With the optional Ram Air IV 400ci V-8, it made 370 horsepower and 445 pound-feet of torque, making it the G.O.A.T. GTO.

If French automaker Renault is the elevator music of vehicles, and it is, then Italian sports car manufacturer De Tomaso is hard-driving heavy metal. In fact, Texas groove-metallers, Pantera named themselves after the vaunted model, and it’s what Mötley Crüe frontman Vince Neil crashed in his infamous DUI arrest. De Tomaso Automobili ltd. was founded by Alejandro de Tomaso in 1959, became part of Ford in 1971, and then effectively ended with the founder’s death in 2003. The company has been bought several times since then with hopes of jump-starting it, but so far nothing substantial has happened.

During its time under Ford, De Tomaso introduced the Pantera in 1971, most of which were sold in America through Lincoln-Mercury dealers. The 1972 Pantera L (for luxury) came with a front bumper and integrated airfoil, but more importantly, a 5.8-liter V-8 that generated 330 horsepower and 344 pound-feet of torque. The Pantera continued to be manufactured until 1992 with only 7,260 ever produced. Though later models had bigger engines and were much faster, those first Panteras were iconically cool.

The founding of the American Motors Corporation (AMC) is complicated, involving mergers between Nash, Kaiser Motors, Packard, Studebaker, Willys–Overland Motors and U.S. Senator Mitt Romney’s dad. Their demise is equally complex, involving a Renault buyout, the assassination of Renault chairman Georges Besse by leftist extremists, and an ultimate buyout by Chrysler, who only wanted the Jeep brand and let everything else fade away. What is easy, is the fact that AMC was the last great American car company to rival the Big Three, who made some pretty cool rides.

Yes, AMC gave the world the Pacer and the Gremlin, two of the ugliest vehicles ever made, but they also cranked out some sharp-looking muscle in the classic era like the Javelin and the AMX. Nothing however was cooler than the 1970 Rebel known as “The Machine.” This patriotic red, white, and blue muscle car had a 390ci V-8 under the hood that produced 340 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. With a 6.3 second 0-60 time and a 14.8 second quarter-mile, it was bit slower than it’s muscle car contemporaries, but man did it turn some heads.

Walter P. Chrysler took over the troubled Maxwell-Chalmers car company in the early 1920s and eventually turned it into the Plymouth division of the Chrysler Corporation. Initially intended to be the budget Pentastar brand, it would go on to produce some of the greatest and most prestigious models under the Chrysler umbrella.

After some kick-ass decades in the 60s and 70s, by the new millennium, Plymouth was back to being an entry-level brand making cheap underpowered stuff the American public didn’t want. Even the Chip Foose-inspired Plymouth Prowler couldn’t save the division and in 2001, Chrysler pulled the plug.

Plymouth’s time in the spotlight came in the classic muscle car era when they made some of the baddest rides available, like the GTX, the Duster, the Road Runner, and of course the Super Bird. Nothing however compares to the sheer awesomeness of the Barracuda. Introduced in 1964 as an A-body fastback coupe pony car, it would become a muscular track menace by the second generation.

Before it became basically a Dodge Challenger in 1970, the 1969 Barracuda came optional with a 440ci Super Commando V-8 that blasted 390 horsepower, 490 pound-feet of torque, and was the fastest Plymouth of the time. Not only is the ’69 ‘Cuda one of the best muscle cars ever, it’s the single best car made by a defunct auto manufacturer.

Mercedes First To Receive Level 3 ADAS Approval For Use In California

Mercedes-Benz becomes the first automotive company to receive certification from California state to sell standard-production vehicles equipped with Level 3 conditionally automated driving. Basically, this means that certain Mercedes models can be driven in the largest US automotive market without interaction between the driver and the machine under certain conditions. The automaker’s Drive Pilot system will be available as an option on the 2024 S-Class and 2024 EQS models and the first cars equipped with the tech are expected to be delivered to customers in late 2023. BMW Motorrad Unveils the M 1000 XR Prototype

BMW Motorrad has presented the M 1000 XR prototype, which is the third M model at BMW Motorrad, as a long-distance sports bike with high long-range capability and a performance-oriented experience on the road and the racetrack. This model is designed for customers with the highest demands for performance, exclusivity, and individuality.

The M 1000 XR prototype is a preview of a supersports motorcycle that provides excellent performance on the country road, long-distance travel, and racetrack equally. It’s a crossover bike that opens up dynamic riding dimensions in the sports motorcycle segment.

The four-cylinder engine from the BMW S 1000 RR super sports bike with BMW ShiftCam technology for varying the timing and valve lift is used in the M 1000 XR prototype. It delivers an engine output of more than 147 kW (200 hp), a DIN empty weight of only 223 kg fully fuelled, and is aerodynamically designed for high-performance road use, long-distance riding, and fast laps on the racetrack. The M Competition Package, available as an optional extra, reduces even more weight and increases riding dynamics. The M XR prototype’s top speed is around 280 km/h.

Health.Care.Run.: Volkswagen employees around the world to run for a good cause

Volkswagen is organizing its first “International Health.Care.Run.” this year, with employees from a total of 21 locations in 11 countries around the world taking part. The initiative is more about supporting a good cause than having a good time, for the proceeds will go to charity.

The event kicked off in mid-May, with some 500 employees taking part at the plant in Bratislava, Slovakia, where Volkswagen produces models such as the Touareg and the up!. As things currently stand, the inter-site series will finish at the end of June with the run in Anchieta, Brazil, where, for example, the Polo is manufactured for the South American market.

“We have three difficult years behind us due to Covid – years in which it was virtually impossible to hold large-scale events,” said Dr. Lars Nachbar, Head of Volkswagen Group Health Care and Occupational Safety. “This is why we are delighted that with the Health.Care.Run. format we can finally organize another shared sporting experience for our employees – one that will be held at all sites.” The team organizing the event expects up to 20,000 people around the world to take part.

The length of the run will vary from plant to plant. In Wolfsburg, where the run will take place on June 17, employees can choose between a 3,300-meter and a 5,800-meter lap. “The fact that the runs will generally take place on the company premises is likely to be an additional motivating factor for many employees,” Nachbar said. “After all, it’s not every day that you get the chance to jog through the plant, possibly even past your own workplace.”

The patron of the international run is the Volkswagen brand Board of Management member for Production Christian Vollmer, himself an enthusiastic athlete. “Sport connects people. Many employees also see it as a chance to unwind from work. This is one of the reasons why I have supported the idea of Health.Care.Run. right from the start. Not to mention that it’s also for a good cause!” added Vollmer, who himself will be taking part in the run at the Wolfsburg headquarters in mid-June. “I hope that many colleagues around the world will do the same and that we will collectively make a very substantial donation.”

Volkswagen will calculate a donation based on the total number of kilometers its employees run during the Health.Care.Run. “That in itself is a good reason to take part in the run and may even motivate colleagues in Wolfsburg to opt for the longer distance,” said Daniela Cavallo, Chair of the Group Works Council. The money will go towards the ‘a chance to play’ project, which helps disadvantaged children and young people close to the Volkswagen plans and focuses on preventing violence as well as providing opportunities for learning and education.

“Children are our future. Projects that help improve their chances of living an independent life free of violence make an important contribution to society. With ‘a chance to play’ we can be certain that our donation will go where it is needed and be put to good use,” Cavallo underlined.

The projects funded by the ‘a chance to play’ initiative have been implemented with local partner organizations for over 20 years through cooperation between the Group Works Council and the international children’s charity Terre des hommes, and meet internationally recognized standards.

Last October, Spectre was unveiled to the world at the Home of Rolls-Royce in West Sussex, and response from media across the globe has been overwhelmingly positive.

Now, ahead of first client deliveries later this year, Spectre made its UK dealer debut on 1st June at the marque’s flagship residence in Berkeley Street, Mayfair, London. The world’s first ultra-luxury electric super coupé will now embark on its UK tour, offering clients an opportunity to draw closer to the brand, viewing this remarkable motor car and thereby participating in Rolls-Royce’s electric future.

Spectre heralds the beginning of an exciting new chapter for Rolls-Royce Motor Cars and the start of the marque’s all-electric era. Spectre represents a promise made, a prophecy kept and a remarkable undertaking. The marque has a long-standing connection with electric technologies; in 1900, Rolls-Royce co-founder Charles Rolls prophesised an electric future for the motor car. Having experienced an electric vehicle named The Columbia Electric Carriage, he foresaw the technology’s suitability as a clean, noiseless alternative to the internal combustion engine – providing there was sufficient infrastructure to support it. In 2011, Rolls-Royce showcased a fully electric Experimental Phantom concept named 102EX. This was followed by 103EX, a dramatic design study that anticipated a bold electric future for the marque.

CHINA PREMIERE FOR ROLLS-ROYCE SPECTRE

Designed and engineered to be a Rolls-Royce first, and an electric car second, Spectre marks the beginning of a new era for Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. To celebrate its China premiere, Spectre is presented at Auto Shanghai 2023 for the very first time in a two-tone Morganite with Gunmetal exterior finish, creating an exceptionally elegant aesthetic. Morganite, a colour between mauve and dark rosé, was inspired by the rare Morganite gemstone and is a new addition to the Rolls-Royce Bespoke portfolio.

Combining elegance and innovation, Spectre delights in an imposing yet effortlessly refined appearance. Creating an extraordinary sense of strength, Spectre has the widest-ever grille produced by Rolls-Royce, with a proud angle and polished stainless-steel finish. The car presents with stunning proportions, revelling in its long front bonnet and graceful silhouette with a beautiful falling fastback roofline; Spectre’s presence is further underlined by the magnificent 23-inch wheels

The excellence of the uncompromising exterior design is continued within, where Spectre’s interior sanctuary offers unrivalled luxury. Auto Shanghai marks the premiere for Spectre’s exquisite Canadel doors: the interior panel is crafted from a single sheet of wood, precisely placed at an exact 55-degree angle to evoke a sense of motion within the car. Sumptuous Grace White leather upholstery is highlighted by bold Ardent Red secondary details, creating a visually stunning hand-crafted masterpiece. The joyous interior is further enhanced by delicate Peony Pink accents on the RR monograms, contrast piping and stitching on the instrument panel. Open Pore Tudor Oak veneer panels gracefully merge into the fascia surfaces, while warmth is added to the exquisite interior design through the veneered steering wheel spokes, for an ultimate lavish touch.

To ensure the famous Rolls-Royce ‘magic carpet ride’, Spectre has undergone the most challenging testing programme ever undertaken by the marque. It was on the Côte d’Azur that Spectre’s digitally integrated evolution of the renowned Planar suspension system was finalised. Planar suspension is an orchestra of systems with precisely defined responses to driver inputs and road conditions, made possible by the latest software and hardware developments. Rolls-Royce’s hallmark experience of silence within the car is supported by the clever mounting of the battery, which enables Spectre’s perfectly smooth underfloor profile. This not only creates a low seating position and enveloping cabin but realises a secondary function for the battery – almost 700kg of sound deadening.

EXQUISITE BESPOKE MODELS SHOWCASE ROLLS-ROYCE CRAFTSMANSHIP

Alongside Spectre’s captivating stage presence are other specially created Bespoke models, showcasing Rolls-Royce’s world-leading expertise in handcraftsmanship and luxury excellence.

Bespoke Phantom Extended
Rolls-Royce Phantom occupies an unrivalled position at the very apex of the luxury world. Presented here in extended version and designed especially for the Shanghai Auto Show, this magnificent motor car is finished in a deep Submariner Blue with the bonnet, roof and rear pillar rendered in contrasting Silver.  Phantom Extended’s stunning exterior is further dramatised with a hand-painted single coachline and the Spirit of Ecstasy presented in stunning Rose Gold.

The exterior theme continues inside, with the front seats in Submariner Blue leather, accented with Rose Gold contrast stitching and ‘RR’ headrest monograms, and blue Piano Milori Sapphire Veneer throughout the cabin.  Phantom Extended’s generous rear suite is rendered in Cashmere Grey with Rose Gold speaker grilles and a Bespoke Starlight Headliner that emits an atmospheric blue glow.

The unique embroidered artwork in the Gallery features an extraordinary 47,943 individual stitches and takes around six hours to handcraft. It represents an abstract interpretation of a floral theme in a precise geometric pattern.

Bespoke Black Badge Cullinan
Another exceptional model is the super-luxury SUV Black Badge Cullinan, which takes the stage in Shanghai finished in a satin Iced Burnout Grey hue, reinforcing the truth that a Black Badge motor car need not be black. In this highly Bespoke commission, the Black Badge aesthetic has been extended to the smallest details: brake callipers, bumper inserts, side trims, Spirit of Ecstasy and 22” Part-Polished Black Badge Wheels are all finished in black.

Inside, the bold splash of Peony Pink over Scivaro Grey applied throughout the cabin, including the Bespoke steering wheel, provides a daring contrast to the more understated exterior. Textured Scivaro Grey boxgrain on the fascia and Technical Carbon veneers on interior surfaces provide additional depth. Each leaf of Technical Carbon is finished with six coats of lacquer before being left to cure for 72 hours and then hand-polished to Rolls-Royce’s hallmark mirror finish – a meticulous process that takes 21 days to complete.

The boundary-pushing Black Badge attitude is further exemplified by the Bespoke Starlight Headliner which features 1,344 fibre-optic ‘stars’ emitting a pink hue, given a playful extra dimension by the inclusion of ‘shooting stars’.

Bespoke Ghost
A stunning Bespoke Rolls-Royce Ghost completes the lineup of beautiful and unique Rolls-Royce motor cars. Gracing the Shanghai Auto Show in a Bespoke two-tone finish that showcases the limitless Bespoke potential of its pure, minimalist design, the main body is in rich, dark Olivin, with Diamond Black contrast above, accentuated with a single hand-painted coachline in Seashell. The matching tyre pinstripe mimics the white-banded tyres beloved by the marque’s patrons in its early days, reflecting a heritage dating back more than 100 years.

Ghost’s interior features a Bespoke colour split, with the front seats in Black Leather and the rear in Seashell, with contrast stitch and piping in Iceland Moss providing a visual connection to the exterior finish. The colour split is also carried over to the Bespoke two-tone steering wheel, which features Black outer and Seashell inner leather trims. Veneers in Stained Black Ash complete the motor car’s timeless, understated aesthetic.

THE BOUNDLESS CREATIVITY OF ROLLS-ROYCE
Beyond the display of these magnificent models, the Rolls-Royce stand offers a range of immersive experiences designed to captivate and fascinate. The Bespoke Atelier will provide guests with a unique opportunity to explore the countless personalisation alternatives that create the Rolls-Royce experience. Meanwhile, the MUSE Rolls-Royce Art Programme has a dedicated space to highlight the brand’s support for and interest in contemporary arts, showcasing the remarkable works of the three winning artists from the recent Spirit of Ecstasy Challenge. These artistic endeavours demonstrate the brand’s commitment to fostering creativity and inspiring greatness, while connecting patrons and the public to the thriving art world.

The fully electric Volvo EX30 SUV: a small car with big potential

Sometimes, first impressions can be misleading. Yes, the new Volvo EX30 is our smallest SUV to date. And yes, it comes at an attractive price. But it can have an oversized impact, representing one of our biggest business opportunities in the coming years.

The Volvo EX30, available to order now in selected markets*, is a cornerstone of the strategic transformation we are on as a company. Already by mid-decade, we aim for half of our global sales volumes to consist of fully electric cars and to reach an operating profit margin of 8-10 per cent. By 2030, we plan to sell only fully electric models.

We expect the EX30 to be one of our best-selling models in the coming years as we work towards those ambitions, and it will significantly contribute to our growth and profitability objectives.

With the Volvo EX30, we enter a new and fast-growing segment for our brand. There is a growing demand from consumers globally for small, fully electric premium SUVs. For example, many people living in the city are looking for a car that brings convenience and allows them to commute to work and get around, while doing so in a way that reflects who they are.

The EX30 is also designed to be as safe as you’d expect from a Volvo car and aims to look after both you and others in hectic urban environments. For example, it includes a special safety feature for bikes that helps to prevent so-called ‘dooring’ accidents, by alerting you when you are about to open your door in front of a cyclist, scooter or runner. State-of-the-art protective safety technology further illustrates how we’ve applied our high safety standards to the EX30.

The EX30 provides drivers with a true and capable SUV, born electric and packed with all the smart tech that they need. Combined with an attractive starting price of around EUR 36,000, this means customers get a premium fully electric SUV for a similar price to combustion engine-powered equivalents.

And as if that wasn’t enough, data from our initial analysis in two markets shows the total cost of ownership to be currently lower than any other fully electric Volvo car – and well ahead of much of the competition in the electric, small SUV segment*.

“We know that price and cost of ownership is still one of the biggest challenges when people consider switching to an electric car,” said Jim Rowan, our Chief Executive. “With the Volvo EX30, we aim to bring premium, fully electric mobility to a much broader audience, helping to advance and speed up the transition to full electrification that our industry and society needs.”

In the way you want it

With its convenient size, smart technology and different configurations to choose from, the Volvo EX30 is designed to appeal to a wide range of customers – each with their own preferences, needs and ways of life.

That same flexibility and convenience is reflected in the way we structured the commercial offer. It is designed around convenience and freedom of choice. You decide how you want to access a Volvo EX30: for example, through outright ownership, leasing or subscription.

Our Care by Volvo subscription offer has been very successful in recent years, not least because it gives customers flexibility and price predictability. We’ll offer that same level of transparency on the EX30: you can see your monthly cost at a glance, without hidden fees or costs, allowing you to enjoy life with your EX30 even more.

“With subscriptions for the EX30 starting at EUR 599 per month, we strongly believe this car will be an attractive choice for many customers – not just for our existing customers, but also to those who are new to the Volvo brand,” said Björn Annwall, our Chief Commercial Officer and Deputy CEO. “That will allow us to create new customer relationships and boost customer retention over time.”

A seamless customer experience

The Care by Volvo subscription packages are part of our ever-growing online offer. We’ve focused on developing a simple, intuitive and smooth buying process via our online flagship store, volvocars.com. Transparent online pricing without hidden fees, as well as an easy-to-understand offer, makes ordering a new Volvo EX30 a breeze.

That online sales process reflects our ambition of creating the best possible customer experience, seamlessly merging online and offline channels. Regardless of whether you visit one of our retailers, walk into one of our urban studios, head to our website or use the Volvo Cars app, everyone should get the same outstanding and meaningful experience.

In addition to the United Kingdom, which will be our first market to switch to a fully integrated online/physical, direct-to-consumer model this year, the Volvo EX30 will also be available online in other selected markets.

The small print

  • The Volvo EX30 is available for order as of today across Europe and other selected markets. In the United States, customers can place pre-orders, while orderbooks will open in other markets at a later stage that will be communicated in due course.
  • Total cost of ownership calculations from third-party data, based on 36 months and 60,000 kms of driving an EX30 Single Motor Core in the German and French markets. We expect similar results in other markets.
