Genesis Achieves Milestone of One Million Cars Sold Since 2015 Launch, G80 Leading the Way

In late 2015, Genesis became an independent luxury division of Hyundai. Looking back, this move has proven to be a successful one. As of August 2023, Genesis has officially reached the milestone of selling over one million vehicles worldwide.

Unfortunately, the exact details of the one-millionth vehicle sold are not available. We reached out to Genesis for more information, but they were unable to provide any specific or general details about this special car. Interestingly, the company did not make a big celebration out of this achievement as they are currently focused on producing new vehicles instead.

Receives prestigious 2023 Battery Division Technology Award

Recognitions honor significant advances in the ‘beyond lithium-ion’ battery field

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (Aug. 2, 2023) – Dr. John Muldoon, senior principal scientist at the Toyota Research Institute of North America (TRINA), has been recognized by The Electrochemical Society (ECS) as a Fellow in its Class of 2023. He has also received the prestigious Battery Division Technology Award for 2023, making him the first representative of an automotive original equipment manufacturer (OEM) to receive this award in its 30-year history.

Dr. Muldoon’s groundbreaking research has greatly contributed to Toyota’s ‘beyond lithium-ion’ battery research programs. His work has influenced global research trends in multivalent ion, lithium sulfur, and solid-state lithium metal batteries. Dr. Muldoon will be officially recognized for these achievements in October at the 244th ECS Meeting in Gothenburg, Sweden.

“I am deeply honored to receive the Battery Technology Award and to be named a Fellow of the ECS, Class of 2023. I am deeply appreciative of all the strong support of my colleagues,” said Dr. Muldoon. “I am confident that Toyota will continue to push the boundaries of beyond lithium-ion and lithium-ion technologies to pave the way for the next generation of batteries.”

The ECS Fellow designation, established in 1989, is reserved for individuals who have made significant technological contributions in the field of electrochemical and solid-state science and technology and have provided service to the Society. The Battery Division Technology Award, created in 1993, recognizes notable achievements in battery and fuel cell technology development.

“These recognitions are among the highest levels of recognition from the world’s scientific community, and Toyota joins a small handful of organizations with significant contributions to the battery field,” said Kristen Tabar, group vice president of Advanced Mobility Research and Development at Toyota Motor North America. “It is a testament to our commitment to innovation with superior research expertise that Toyota has in-house.”

This award supports young professors and scholars pursuing innovative electrochemical research in green energy technology.

In addition to his technical contributions and involvement in ECS activities, Dr. Muldoon is a Fellow of The Royal Society of Chemistry and an active member of the American Chemical Society and Material Research Society.

Electric Audi RS Sports Cars to Have Unique Personality

Audi Sport, the renowned performance division of Ingolstadt, plans to have a fully electrified lineup by the end of this decade. This includes creating high-performance, pure-electric versions of their fastest combustion cars, such as the RS3 hot hatch and the RS7 grand tourer.

Audi aims to prioritize the RS brand in the coming years, building on the success of the current RS E-tron GT. They plan to incorporate sporty credentials and distinctive styling cues into their standard models.

The company is committed to ensuring that the RS badge remains more than just a trim level. Sebastian Grams, the managing director of Audi Sport, highlighted the popularity of the E-tron GT as an indication of changing target customers. As a result, Audi believes that electrification and high performance are a perfect match.

RS versions of the upcoming A6 E-tron electric estate and Q6 E-tron crossover will be the first Audi Sport EVs. Following closely behind will be strikingly styled and immensely powerful sporty variations of the electric replacements for the A3, A4, A6, and A7.

While plans for the electric A7 replacement have not been confirmed, chief designer Marc Lichte mentioned the Activesphere concept as a potential production model resembling an elevated A7. Audi is working on giving the exterior design of RS models a distinct character in the electric world.

“We believe that there should be a clear differentiation between a regular model and an RS model. This will be a unique selling point—something that defines the DNA of our electric RS models,” said Grams.

duPont REGISTRY No. 459 – August 2023

McLaren may not be dominating Formula 1 right now, but its automotive division consistently earns a place on the podium for its road cars. And while the brand has produced some truly insane cars in its Ultimate Series, it’s the 720S from the “lesser” Super Series that has grabbed more headlines.

Perhaps it’s because the 720S is more affordable and available compared to McLaren’s other models like the Senna or Speedtail. Or maybe it’s because the 720S has gained popularity through videos on YouTube, showcasing it embarrassing every car in quarter-mile drag races.

Introducing the cover car of this issue: the new 750S. McLaren recently unveiled this successor to the 720S, and it offers even more improvements. With an additional 30 horsepower, a weight reduction of 66 pounds, a shorter final drive ratio in its upgraded 7-speed sequential gearbox, a wider track, larger air intakes, and a quicker steering ratio, the new 750S surpasses its predecessor as a remarkable supercar.

Reportedly, the 750S will be the last McLaren car solely powered by an internal combustion engine. While electric propulsion is the future, McLaren deserves credit for not abandoning traditional engines without a fight. The upgrades in the 750S ensure that McLaren will still outpace a Tesla in drag races.

This month’s issue of duPont REGISTRY also features two other supercars you don’t want to miss. The first is a review of the incredibly innovative yet nostalgic Ferrari 296 GTB on page 30. This Ferrari is the first to feature a V6 engine in nearly 50 years. Despite having fewer cylinders compared to its V8-powered stablemates, the 296 GTB surprises with 830 horsepower thanks to some electrification enhancements.

The second supercar feature is about our first experience with the unique McLaren Elva. You can read about it on page 48. As mentioned earlier, McLaren’s Ultimate Series has produced extraordinary cars like the F1 and P1, and the Elva is the latest and most intriguing addition to this group. This open-top supercar does not have a windshield, although there is an option to add a fixed windscreen (which we do not recommend). The Elva is rare, fast, and expensive, making it the epitome of our car preferences.

If size were the main indicator of automotive greatness, the LOKI Coach would be on top. Turn to page 42 to learn about the most impressive and luxurious motorcoach built on the renowned Prevost chassis. If you want to travel in true luxury, the LOKI Coach offers a sleek exterior, modern interior, and significant advancements in power management, renewable energy, and automation. Our advice? Make space for this exceptional vehicle by clearing your guest house and creating a concrete pad for parking it.

There’s much more to discover in this month’s issue (pro-tip: check out our feature on adventure watches on page 70). It’s the kind of issue that you won’t want to put down, as your next car could be waiting for you within its pages. Now go find it.

15 Reasons Why The Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid Is Criminally Underrated

The Pacifica is a minivan produced by the Chrysler division of the Stellantis group. The name has been used earlier on many different vehicles from the brand, but since 2017, it has been used on the flagship minivan. It replaced the famous Chrysler Town & Country. The Pacifica also comes in a Plug-in Hybrid form called the Pacifica PHEV. However, this variant has been underrated since its launch despite being very capable as a minivan.

Despite being in the market for many years and having a good reputation as far as the vehicle is concerned, it still hasn’t achieved the success that it should have. Chrysler has tried many different ways to showcase its ability, but despite that, the Pacifica hasn’t reached the success it is capable of. There are many reasons for this, and Chrysler has addressed some of them over the years. However, some of them still remain. Let’s look at some of the reasons why it is so criminally underrated.

Updated on July 14, 2023: The Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid is an excellent minivan that deserves as much recognition as possible. So, instead of letting this article get buried in the multitudes of other dead articles online, we have decided to refresh and update it with more data to keep you informed with the most up-to-date information.

The Pacifica is very well-appointed, especially in the top-of-the-line Pinnacle variant. It gets nice Nappa leather-wrapped seats along with many other luxurious appointments in the cabin. All the common touchpoints feature very nice materials that make it feel extremely upmarket. Moreover, the ample amount of legroom in all three rows makes it very comfortable for long-distance journeys without making the passengers feel claustrophobic. High-quality materials instantly lift the cabin ambiance and make it inviting for the passengers.

Chrysler has loaded the Pacifica with many good-to-have and essential features that make it the default choice when choosing a family minivan. The Pacifica has full Amazon Alexa integration that helps the driver control all functions, from navigation to climate control. The automatic climate control system also keeps the cabin at the perfect temperature, which adds to creating that perfect environment. Also, the multi-zone climate control system allows various passengers to maintain temperature as per their liking and comfort.

3 The Pacifica Hybrid Is Very Fuel Efficient

Being a hybrid, the Pacifica offers very high levels of fuel efficiency despite being large and heavy. The PHEV system is designed to cover the maximum possible miles of electric power, thereby aiding the overall fuel efficiency. The Pacifica is rated at 82 MPG and has a combined gas and electric range of 520 miles. When driven with a light foot, the system allows the Pacifica to run on electric power even on expressways at higher speeds. The engine kicks in only when the batteries start to run out of juice. This helps in extracting the maximum possible efficiency out of the system.

4 It Features An Impressive Infotainment System

Chrysler has equipped the Pacifica with a very modern and functional infotainment system. This system controls most of the vehicle’s functions and allows the driver and the passengers to toggle any setting from a single control point. The sizeable 10.1-inch touchscreen has a crisp and clear display and houses many of the car’s controls. It is also linked to the rear infotainment screens and allows the front-seat passengers to enjoy content from Amazon Fire TV when the vehicle is stationary. This makes the system enjoyable for all Pacifica passengers, including the ones in the front seat.

5 The Chrysler Pacifica Is Loaded With Safety Features

One of the most essential features today is safety, and not just ones that appear to be good. When you own a minivan, you want the best of the best because your family will be relying on it. Chrysler has gone through the newest innovative safety technology on the shelf. If it was at all relevant to the Pacifica, it was added to the minivan.

  • Forward collision warning
  • Forward collision braking
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Pedestrian braking controls
  • LED headlights
  • LED taillights
  • Lane departure warning
  • Lane keep assist
  • Blind-spot monitoring
  • Rear park assist
  • Rear cross-path detection

Plus, inside, you have the standard addition of having a filtration system installed to keep the cabin air fresh and 85 percent clear of harmful particles. Now, that is not to say that accidents will not happen, but if it does, the eight standard airbags and 97 safety features will help ensure that injuries are kept to the minimum.

6 It Is Very Silent And Refined

Although initially, the Pacifica was known to be a bit noisy, Chrysler has worked on this aspect proactively over the years. Now, the Pacifica is one of the most refined minivans on the market. Thanks to the improved door and glass seals, the Pacifica is very silent and refined now, and this lifts the entire cabin ambiance at least two notches up. The NVH levels on the Pacifica are now right up there with the segment’s best.

New Design of Hyundai i20 N Line Spotted for the First Time on Camera

The hatchback sports a fresh set of alloy wheels with red brake callipers among other changes

2023 Hyundai i20 N Line spied

  • In 2021, Hyundai introduced the N Line division in India with the i20 hatchback.

  • The updated i20 N Line was spotted with partial black camouflage alongside two other refreshed i20 models.

  • Earlier spy shots revealed the same black upholstery with contrast red stitching as the current i20 N Line.

  • The regular variants of the i20 hatchback may come with paddle shifters and a new Verna-like 2-spoke steering wheel among other features.

  • The facelifted Hyundai i20 N Line is expected to be released in the second half of 2023, likely at a higher price than the current model.

Only a week after the facelifted Hyundai i20 was spotted testing in India, the refreshed version of the i20 N Line has now been seen for the first time. The updated hatchback was caught on camera alongside two other refreshed i20 models which were all partially camouflaged to hide the tweaks. It was introduced in India by Hyundai as the first model with the N Line treatment in 2021.

The New Design of Hyundai i20 N Line

2023 Hyundai i20 and i20 N Line

Despite the front and rear of the new facelifted i20 N Line being concealed by black camouflage, its profile revealed the same red side skirts as the current i20 N Line. The vehicle was also spotted with a new design of alloy wheels, featuring a red brake calliper and an “N” badge on the hubcaps. Among the regular i20 variants seen during the testing, one had steel wheels with covers, while the other in silver paint sported the same new alloy wheel design.

The refreshed i20 N Line may also have the same enhancements as the recently released European facelift model, which includes updated bumpers and multi-reflector LED headlights. The upgraded rear of the i20 N Line may also come with a connected LED taillight system.

Interior Details

2023 Hyundai i20 cabin spied

Although the images only showed black upholstery with contrast red stitching in the new facelifted i20 N Line’s cabin, another spy image gave a glimpse of the dashboard in one of the regular i20 variants. It revealed paddle shifters, a new 2-spoke steering wheel like that in the 6th-generation Verna, and the same in-car dashcam and touchscreen setup as before.

Hyundai may offer the i20 N Line with new features, such as ventilated front seats and ambient lighting, which are expected to feature on the updated standard model. They may also retain current features such as wireless phone charging, a 10.25-inch touchscreen, connected car technology, and auto climate control. The safety feature is likely to include up to six airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), and a reversing camera.

Possible Engine

The upgraded i20 N Line may continue to use the same 1-litre turbo-petrol engine (120PS/172Nm) and offer the current 6-speed iMT (clutchless manual) and 7-speed DCT (dual-clutch transmission).

Expected Release and Price

We anticipate that the facelifted i20 N Line will hit the market during the latter part of 2023, and it may be launched in conjunction with the updated i20. Its price range is sure to be higher than the current model, with the turbo versions of the Tata Altroz being its direct competitors.
