Brits Living in Cities Could Face Up to £18M in Fines for Parking Outside Marked Bays, Reveals Citroën UK

  • A study conducted by Citroën UK has discovered that the ten largest local authorities in the UK have issued more than 137,000 fines to drivers for not parking within the designated parking bays.
  • These fines have potentially cost British drivers around £18 million since 2019.
  • Edinburgh Council handed out the highest number of fines, recording 19,800 offenses.
  • The Citroën Ami, measuring 2.41 meters long and 1.39 meters wide, can fit in half the size of a standard parking bay. If everyone drove an Ami, local authorities could double the number of available parking spaces in their areas.
  • The Citroën Ami 100% Electric offers a groundbreaking approach to urban mobility, with an electric range of up to 46 miles and a top speed of 28mph.

According to new research conducted by Citroën UK, British drivers living in cities could be held accountable for fines of up to £18 million due to Penalty Charge Notices for failing to park their vehicles inside designated parking bays. A total of 137,000 fines were issued to motorists who parked outside the marked lines of parking bays since 2019, as revealed through Freedom of Information (FOI) requests made to the largest ten local authorities running cities in the UK, including all 32 London Boroughs*.

The study found that Edinburgh Council handed out the largest number of Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) to drivers who parked outside the marked bays, with over 19,800 PCNs issued since 2019. In comparison, Tower Hamlets Council in London only issued 52 PCNs for the same offense during the same period.

Glasgow Council came in second place, issuing 17,800 PCNs since 2019, while Havering Council in London issued over 15,700. According to the AA, drivers who receive a PCN for a parking violation can face fines of up to £130**, meaning that the 137,000 fines received could have cost drivers up to £17.9 million. In London alone, over £9 million could have been collected from drivers who parked outside designated areas.

The Citroën Ami 100% Electric is specifically designed for navigating and parking in cities across the UK. With dimensions of just 2.41 meters long and 1.39 meters wide, the Ami 100% Electric can fit in half of a standard parallel parking space. The British Parking Association recommends parking spaces to be 4.8 meters long and 2.4 meters wide, which means that local authorities could double the number of available spaces in crowded urban areas if everyone used an Ami. This would also prevent drivers of larger vehicles from the risk of not fitting into a parking space.

Greg Taylor, Managing Director of Citroën UK, stated, “Our research shows that people are having difficulties parking their cars in urban environments, potentially making millions of motorists across the country liable for fines. The Ami 100% Electric is the perfect solution for driving in urban areas and represents an innovative and revolutionary way of navigating cities. It exemplifies the best of Citroën, offering creative and enjoyable solutions to real problems.”

As an electric mobility solution, the Ami produces zero emissions when used and features a 5.4kWh battery that can be fully charged in just four hours. With a range of up to 46 miles and a top speed of 28mph, the Ami 100% Electric is a modern and inventive solution that fulfills Citroën’s commitment to providing affordable and eco-friendly mobility solutions for all.

Citroen currently sells four car models in India – C3 hatchback, eC3 electric hatchback, C3 Aircross compact SUV, and C5 Aircross mid-size SUV. The automaker has recently revealed the European-spec eC3, and here’s how it differs from its India-spec version.

Euro-Spec Citroen eC3 Revealed; Here’s How It Differs From The India-spec Electric Hatchback

Let us take a look at the differences between the eC3 in India and Europe

Europe-spec Citroen eC3 and India-spec Citroen eC3

The covers have come off the new Citroen eC3 for Europe as an affordable EV from the French carmaker. The car is based on an all-new electric platform and comes with a host of updated features, powertrain, and more. Let’s take a look at the differences between the new Euro-spec car and the one available in India.

Design:

In terms of looks, we can notice that the European eC3 is vastly different from the one in India as it debuts the brand’s new design language in this space. Towards the front, there is the new Citroen logo with sharper C-shaped headlights, 3-element LED DRLs, and a dual-slat grille. The closed-off grille merges into the headlights seamlessly. The lower portion of the bumper houses a larger air dam, and there is a silver skid plate at the bottom.

In contrast, the Indian eC3 is based on the petrol version of the India-specific C3 hatchback with no clear visual distinction. It sports a more rounded styling like most other Citroen models.

Coming to the sides, there is resemblance between the Euro-spec and Indian version. However we can see that both the fender designs as well as the doors are different, while it does not get any door-side cladding either. The European eC3 gets pull-type door handles instead of the traditional flap units on the Indian car. Also, it gets 17-inch alloy wheels, while the India-spec eC3 that runs on 15-inch alloy wheels.

The rear is also quite different. The new eC3 gets new tail lamps, boot, and bumper as well. Like the front, the European EV looks more stylish and upmarket by comparison.

Interiors:

On the insides, the new European Citroen eC3 comes loaded with features and sleek styling for the minimalist cabin layout. There is a new dashboard as well as a flat-bottom steering with multi-function buttons.

Europe-spec Citroen eC3 cabin

The driver gets a new digital instrument cluster integrated into the dashboard, similar to a heads-up display instead of a traditional gauge cluster. Citroen has also equipped the Euro-spec eC3 with a new touchscreen infotainment unit, but the screen size remains the same, at 10.25 inches.

India-spec Citroen eC3 cabin

Like the car sold in India, the European eC3 too will get different colors on the inside based on the variant or exterior paint shade.

Some extra features on the new eC3 include auto wipers, folding and heated ORVMs, wireless charging, ADAS, and more.

Platform, Powertrain, and Battery:

While both the Euro-spec and Indian eC3 are derived from the same CC21 platform, the former gets a heavily reworked version called the ‘Smart Car’ platform. This Citroen eC3 will be sold only as an EV in Europe, while in India the car has both electric and petrol engine options.

The new eC3 gets an updated crash structure, more reinforcements, a modified battery compartment, and a new rear seat bench. All these have ensured a larger battery and other improvements.

India-spec Citroen eC3 charging port

The European eC3 comes with a 44kWh lithium iron phosphate battery. It has a 113PS electric motor and offers 320km of claimed range. In comparison, the Indian Citroen eC3 gets a 29.2 kWh battery with a 57PS motor and a 320km (ARAI-claimed) range. The European customers can also choose a 200km range variant as well.

Europe-spec Citroen eC3 charging

Both the eC3 electric hatchbacks support DC fast charging. The Indian unit claims a 10-80 percent top-up in 57 minutes while the international version supports 100kW DC charging with a 20-80 percent charging in just 26 minutes.

While we do not have the exact dimensions of the new Euro-spec Citroen eC3, we do know that it is longer (4.01 meters) and wider (1.76 meters). Understandably, the India-spec eC3 is a sub-4m offering with an extra 7mm of ground clearance at 170mm.

Pricing and India plans:

Europe-spec Citroen eC3 rear

The all-new European Citroen eC3 will carry a starting price of over Rs 20 lakh (converted from EUR 23,300) while the Indian eC3 is priced from Rs 11.50 lakh (ex-showroom). Of course, the European version of the electric hatchback is much better equipped too, for the premium.

India-spec Citroen eC3 rear

Thus, this Euro-spec eC3 is not going to make it to our shores, but we can expect the next India-spec Citroen eC3 to take styling cues from it when it is time for it to be facelifted in a few years. In the meanwhile, do let us know if you would like to go for the Euro-spec eC3 or the one that is currently available in India.

CITROËN REVEALS THE ALL-NEW Ë-C3: THE FIRST EUROPEAN AFFORDABLE ELECTRIC CAR

Citroën has unveiled the fourth-generation C3, which challenges the norms for European-designed and built B-segment cars. The all-new ë-C3 is an affordable electric vehicle that offers best-in-class comfort, easy electric experience, a high level of equipment, and great value for money.

The ë-C3 is the flagship model of Citroën’s fourth-generation C3 line-up and has sold over 5.6 million units since the first generation launched in 2002. The C3 is Citroën’s most popular model, accounting for 29% of their European sales volume and 11% of the European B-segment market in 2022.

The ë-C3 marks a new chapter for Citroën as the brand reinvents itself to make electric mobility accessible to everyone. It is the first European-designed and European-built all-electric B-hatchback, offering zero-emission mobility at an affordable price. The on-the-road prices start from under £23,000 in the UK.

The all-new ë-C3 prioritizes comfort and features Citroën Advanced Comfort® Suspension as standard. This innovative suspension system provides a unique feeling of comfort on the road by using progressive hydraulic bump stops to give the impression of gliding over uneven surfaces. It offers best-in-class comfort, spacious interiors, and ample storage space.

The ë-C3 is equipped with an 83kW/113hp electric motor and a 44kWh battery pack, providing a WLTP driving range of up to 199 miles. It offers fast charging capabilities, with 100kW DC fast charging from 20% to 80% capacity taking as little as 26 minutes.

The ë-C3 is fully equipped with a range of features, including connected navigation with the ë-ROUTES app, which optimizes journey times and provides access to a reliable charging network. It also offers a range of driver assistance features for comfort, support, and safety.

Citroën aims to make electric mobility accessible to all with the ë-C3. It follows a fair pricing strategy, with prices starting from under £23,000 in the UK. The line-up includes three well-equipped versions: ‘YOU!’, ‘PLUS’, and ‘MAX’.

With its distinctive and bold design, incorporating the new Citroën brand signature, the ë-C3 stands out on the road. It is the first European affordable electric car designed in Europe and built in Slovakia.

2024 Citroen e-C3 Debuts In Europe With 199-Mile Range, $24,500 Starting Price

Citroen is introducing the fourth generation of the C3 with a purely electric powertrain, transitioning from combustion-powered vehicles. The 2024 e-C3 is now available in the European market, with a starting price of approximately $24,500 (23,300 Euros). In 2025, an even more affordable entry-level model is expected, potentially becoming one of the most budget-friendly electric vehicles in Europe. Here’s a closer look at the features and improvements of this new supermini.

The model, based on Stellantis’ Smart Car Platform, features a fresh design language compared to its predecessor. The traditional small hatchback has transformed into a more crossover-like vehicle with wheels positioned at the edges. This design choice, combined with a higher roof line, results in a significantly more spacious cabin. Citroen claims there is an additional 1.18 inches of headroom and 0.8 inches of knee room for occupants. The cargo area behind the rear seats has also slightly increased from 10.59 cubic feet to 10.94 cubic feet.

New £25,000 electric Citroen e-C3 to be unveiled on 17 October

The next-generation, all-electric Citroën C3 will be revealed at noon on Tuesday, October 17th, according to the brand’s confirmation.

According to Autocar’s June report, the new C3 will be priced “below €25,000” in Europe, equivalent to £21,600. However, when accounting for the cost of adapting the model for right-hand drive and importing it to the UK, it is expected to have a price tag of around £25,000.

If priced as expected, the ë-C3 will become the most affordable electric car available in the UK, undercutting the £25,490 BYD Dolphin.

The new model will have the same dimensions as the outgoing combustion-engined C3 and share similarities with the “CC21” C3 released in India and Latin America last year.

A recent social media video reveals that the styling of the e-C3 is influenced by the Oli concept car shown last year, featuring similar lighting signatures to the forward-thinking pick-up.

The ë-C3 will come “fully equipped” with features such as air conditioning and electric windows, as previously mentioned by Citroën in June. It will be built on a “BEV-native” platform, although further technical specifications have not been revealed at this time. The car is expected to have a range of over 186 miles.

Citroën emphasizes the significance of the C3 to its lineup, with global sales exceeding 5.5 million since its initial launch. The company aims for worldwide expansion.

Citroën CEO Thierry Koskas, who also serves as the sales and marketing chief of the Stellantis group, states that the new C3 will be available in a simplified three-level range, each offering a maximum of five options. This streamlines the production process at Citroën’s factory in Slovakia and helps alleviate confusion for car buyers.

Since the C3 Aircross is only available with a petrol-manual powertrain, we will only compare it with the petrol-manual variants of its rivals. We will divide this price comparison into two tables. Let’s start with the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, and Toyota Hyryder.

  • The mid-spec Maruti Grand Vitara Delta manual variant is only Rs 10,000 more expensive than the 5-seater Max variant of the Citroen C3 Aircross. However, the difference increases to Rs 61,000 when considering the mid-spec S manual variant of the Toyota Hyryder.

  • The base variants of these rivals still undercut the prices of the mid-spec C3 Aircross.

Honda Elevate

  • The one-above-base Honda Elevate V is priced closest to the Max variant of the C3 Aircross. However, for the more equipped second-from-top VX variant of the Elevate, customers will need to spend up to Rs 1.5 lakh more than the top-spec 5-seater Max variant of the Citroen SUV.

Volkswagen Taigun

  • The Taigun and Kushaq’s 1-litre turbo variants produce 115PS and 178Nm, which is 5PS more and 12Nm less than the Citroen C3 Aircross’ 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine. These engines are mated to a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automatic. The VW-Skoda models also offer a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine for a higher price.

  • The Elevate comes with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, making 121PS and 145Nm, mated to either a 6-speed manual or a CVT automatic.

  • MG offers the Astor with two engine options: a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol and a 1.3-litre turbo petrol. The variants priced similar to the C3 Aircross only come with the former. The 1.5-litre petrol engine produces 110PS and 144Nm of torque and is paired with a 6-speed manual or a CVT automatic transmission.

Conclusion

The Citroen C3 Aircross is the most affordable compact SUV in its segment with just one petrol-manual powertrain option. It may lack some premium features compared to its rivals, but it offers the advantage of both 5- and 7-seater layouts. CITROËN UK ANNOUNCES PRICING FOR NEW STREAMLINED PASSENGER CAR RANGE

This update, effective from September 1, 2023, is in response to changing consumer trends and Citroën’s goal of adopting a fairer and more balanced pricing policy.

A SIMPLIFIED RANGE

The streamlined range consists of three new trim levels: YOU!, PLUS, and MAX, available across all Citroën passenger cars (excluding ë-Berlingo and ë-SpaceTourer for now). This redefinition has resulted in a more concise range, making it easier for customers to understand the different specifications and options available, without confusion. The new range showcases Citroën’s commitment to providing cars with effortless style and supreme comfort.

For example, in the case of the C4 and C4 X models, the entry-level YOU! trim (starting from £19,495 OTR for both models) offers access to Citroën comfort with features such as Advanced Comfort Suspension, Advanced Comfort Seats, and a 10-inch touchscreen with DAB digital radio, Bluetooth® connectivity, and Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto. The PLUS trim enhances the Citroën experience with a rear-view camera and connected navigation. The C4 and C4 X models in PLUS trim are priced from £23,530 and £24,935, respectively, and feature natural voice recognition, automatic headlights and windscreen wipers, a 10-inch touchscreen, and Citroën’s Connect Box Emergency & Assistance system. In PLUS trim, C4 and C4 X drivers also receive a one-year trial subscription to Citroën Connect PLUS services, including real-time traffic and speed camera alerts.

Lastly, the MAX trim level adds convenient features to enhance onboard life, such as keyless access and adaptive cruise control (for automatic and electric versions). The C4 and C4 X models in MAX trim are priced from £25,420 and £26,820 respectively, and offer a comfortable ride and ease of use, along with Citroën’s unique style featuring dark-tinted rear windows and 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels.

Additional collections, like the ë-Series collection for ë-C4 and ë-C4 X, will continue to be offered as highlights of the range. The ë-Series trim, starting from £36,295 for both models, offers even more features and enhanced levels of style and technology, including a bi-tone roof, heated steering wheel, wireless induction smartphone charging, heated front seats, upgraded Citroën HiFi system, and distinctive Dark Chrome Colour Pack.

AN IMPROVED CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE

By redesigning its product range, Citroën aims to enhance the purchasing experience for customers while reducing costs and delivery times. The Citroën Advisor program allows customers to post comments and opinions on Citroën’s products, sales outlets, and service offerings in a transparent manner.

The new streamlined range simplifies the buying process and improves the overall customer experience. Whether purchasing through the online Citroën Store or from Citroën’s retailer network, the range fosters trust and transparency in the buying process.

In addition to simplifying the range, the Citroën website has been made more user-friendly, allowing customers to easily find information about new models. The rationalization of Citroën’s manufacturing processes has also improved stock management, production, and cost controls, resulting in fair pricing and shorter delivery times for customers.
