Langen LightSpeed Wants To Wow The World With Its Power To Weight Ratio

EICMA is now in the history books for another year, and motorcycle enthusiasts in and around the UK are getting ready for Motorcycle Live 2023. This year’s event will be held from November 18 to 26, 2023 at the NEC Birmingham. It’s the UK’s biggest motorcycle event of the year.

While most major manufacturers hold major debuts at EICMA, a select few also showcase interesting things at Motorcycle Live. This year, Langen Motorcycles plans to unveil its newest model, the LightSpeed, for the first time in public.

Langen made waves back in 2020 by introducing its first model, the Langen Two-Stroke, which defied expectations by offering high power and torque while meeting emissions standards. The bike used a 250cc powerplant from Italian maker Vins, providing a claimed 75 horsepower and 33 pound-feet of torque with a 14,500 rpm redline.

Fast forward to 2023, Langen’s latest offering, the LightSpeed, ditches the two-strokes and small power plants. It now features a 1,190cc V-twin from Rotax making 185 horsepower at 10,600 rpm. The engine is manufactured by Buell, with further development by Langen. The bike also boasts a high-tensile steel tubular space frame and carbon fiber bodywork, as well as high-spec suspension from Öhlins, and performance brake calipers from Hel alongside a pair of floating 320mm front brake discs to ensure precise handling and stopping power. Langen claims a power to weight ratio of 1,000 brake horsepower per tonne.

Langen plans to release the LightSpeed in two versions. The UK Launch Edition, a limited run of 185 units homologated to UK standards, is available for reservation with pricing starting at £37,000 plus VAT. For those outside the UK, worldwide type-approved versions of the LightSpeed might become available in limited numbers by 2026.

The Bologna Dogfight: A Ducati Monster 821 Café Racer By Rough Crafts

Winston Yeh, from Rough Crafts, has completed another build, this time transforming a Ducati Monster 821 into a Café Racer named “Bologna Dogfight.” This build focuses on simple body lines, meticulous attention to detail, and a predominantly black color scheme.

Rough Crafts is well-known for their custom bike builds, including previous projects such as the XDiavel “Flatout Titan,” the Honda CB1100 “Oriental Uppercut,” the BMW R 18 “Berlin Barnstormer,” and more, all originating from Bologna, Italy.

The Ducati Monster 821 was introduced in mid-2014 and featured a sporty naked design, powered by an 821cc Testastretta L-Twin engine producing 109 horsepower and 63.4 foot-pounds of torque. The 821 followed Ducati’s iconic “Il Mostro” formula, with a trellis frame and an upright yet sporty riding position.

The “Bologna Dogfight” Ducati Monster 821 looks stunning in its all-black color scheme, enhanced with custom 3D-printed parts. Rough Crafts took a retro approach with this build, utilizing 3D printing technology to create the tank, fairings, and tail. The frame of the 821 was also custom-made by Rough Crafts to fit the renowned L-Twin engine.

The design of the bike focuses on a monochromatic aesthetic, with even the shock spring lacking any bright colors. The Öhlins rear mono-shock features a black spring instead of the signature yellow. Yeh installed two LED headlights from Koso in the front fairing. Aritek Ltd contributed CNC-machined parts, including the top triple tree, while a CNC Racing part was used for the lower triple tree. The upside-down fork contains an Andreani cartridge kit for damping. The stock Monster’s switch gear was retained but installed on Motogadget handles, fitted with Beringer fittings and protected by CNC Racing lever protectors.

Rough Crafts collaborated with Simon Fiber Craft for the carbon fiber dress-up parts, Rover Works Custom Paint for the recoloring, and BST carbon rims for the wheels. Grip is provided by Pirelli Diablo Rosso IV Corsa tires, and Berringer plus Moto Master braking components replace the original Brembo parts.

To complete the build, Rough Crafts added twin exhaust tubes from SC Project. These tubes are slimmer than the stock ones but still follow the two-into-two configuration and boast exceptional finishing.

Radford & Tanner Foust Break Pikes Peak Hill Climb Class Record

In the 101st running of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, the Radford Type 62-2 Pikes Peak Special Edition made history over the weekend. Led by experienced race car driver and previous Pikes Peak champion, Tanner Foust, the vehicle not only won the Exhibition Class but also achieved a sub-ten-minute time, a record previously untouched by Foust.

Radford’s triumph was supported by impressive engineering. The Type 62-2 Pikes Peak Edition featured a 710HP supercharged 3.5L V6 DOHC engine, capable of going from 0-60 mph in under 2.2 seconds and reaching a top speed of 160 mph. The lightweight dry body, weighing only 1,898 pounds, was achieved through a full carbon composite monocoque. Additionally, the Radford race version included extensive modifications such as a new underbody design, subframes, suspension, wider body, and a new rear aero and diffuser to deliver outstanding performance on the challenging Pikes Peak terrain.

The Pikes Peak victory showcases Radford’s design and engineering capabilities for high-performance cars, combining power, speed, and cutting-edge technology. As the triumphant Type 62-2 Pikes Peak Edition prepares for its next challenge at the NASCAR Chicago Street Race on July 1-2, 2023, it carries the momentum and prestige of a remarkable success.
