New Honda E-Clutch System Simplifies Motorcycle Operation

Honda Motor Company recently announced the launch of their E-Clutch system, an automatic clutch control system designed for motorcycles with manual transmissions. The system is showcased in a video animation that demonstrates how it works and highlights the rider’s hand and foot movements during acceleration.

The main goal of the E-Clutch system, according to Honda, is to make motorcycle operation easier and more confident for riders of all skill levels. With this electronically controlled clutch, riders can continue shifting gears using the foot lever as usual, without the need to pull the clutch lever unless desired.

In a standard manual transmission motorcycle, riders typically use a clutch lever with their left hand and shift gears using a foot lever on the left side of the bike. The right side of the bike features a front brake lever, throttle grip, and a right brake lever located in front of the right foot peg.

While motorcycle controls may vary depending on the bike’s make and model, older motorcycles or those modified for riders with disabilities may have different layouts. Additionally, Honda already offers a dual clutch transmission option that eliminates the need for a clutch lever.

Electric motorcycles and many mass-market scooters also do not require manual clutch actuation, as their powertrain design makes it unnecessary. Therefore, the E-Clutch system would primarily benefit motorcycles with conventional multi-gear manual transmissions.

Honda states that the E-Clutch system can be installed without significant modifications to existing engine layouts. Although specific models and release dates were not mentioned in the announcement, it suggests that the system will soon be available on familiar Honda motorcycle models.

The release also mentioned that Honda plans to gradually introduce the E-Clutch system to their “FUN” motorcycle models. In Honda’s terminology, “FUN” motorcycles refer to bikes primarily used for leisure and pleasure rather than just daily commuting. As many riders in the US enjoy recreational riding, this description could apply to a majority of Honda’s current lineup available in the market.

It is yet uncertain whether the Honda E-Clutch will be offered as an additional option at a different price point, similar to their current availability of the Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) on select models. It is also unclear whether there will be a choice between the E-Clutch and the DCT on specific models like the Africa Twin. As more details become available, they will be shared accordingly.

Aston Martin Will Preserve Manual Transmissions in Special Edition Models

In a world where automatic transmissions and electric cars have become the standard, Aston Martin stands out by continuing to produce cars with manual transmissions. To commemorate its 110th anniversary, the British automaker introduced the Valour, a limited-edition V12-powered supercar equipped with a manual gearbox, paying tribute to the company’s illustrious history. However, Aston Martin doesn’t view this as a farewell to manual transmissions but rather as a sign of its intention to develop more special edition models with traditional gear shifts.

Marek Reichman, Aston Martin’s creative boss, explained the inspiration behind the Valour. He disclosed that the remarkable supercar was heavily influenced by the success of the one-of-a-kind Victor, which gained significant attention when it was publicly showcased at Hampton Court and received the Future Classic award. Originally intended for a single customer, the Victor’s acclaim sparked widespread interest and inquiries, prompting Aston Martin to explore the possibility of creating additional vehicles that embody the essence of manual transmissions.

2023 Hyundai i20 Sportz CVT Variant Explained In 5 Images

The Sportz variant of the updated Hyundai i20 comes with both manual and CVT automatic transmission options

The Hyundai i20 has recently undergone a minor design makeover, and its powertrain options have also been altered. The updated i20 is available in five broad variants – Era, Magna, Sportz, Asta, and Asta(O). Here, we will explore what the mid-spec Sportz CVT trim of the premium hatchback has to offer, as it is the entry-level option for the automatic transmission. It is priced at Rs 9.38 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

The front of the i20 Sportz closely resembles its higher-specced variants, featuring a parametric jewel pattern grille and a prominent skid plate. But it still gets a halogen headlight setup, and the LED DRLs are mounted near the air curtains on the bumper. On higher-specced Asta and Asta (O) variants, you get LED headlights with integrated LED DRLs.

Also Check Out: 5 Differences Between The Hyundai Exter And Casper

Moving along the profile, it gets body-colored door handles and ORVMs, with side indicators on the outside mirrors. It comes with stylized 16-inch steel wheels, unlike the diamond-cut alloy wheels offered with the top-spec Asta and Asta (O) variants. Also, if you opt for a dual-tone version of this Sportz trim, the ORVMs will be blacked out. The monotone versions of top-spec i20 also get chrome-finished door handles.

At the rear, this i20 Sportz model comes with Z-shaped LED tail lamps which are connected by a chrome garnish, silver skid plate on the rear bumper, and a shark fin antenna. It also gets a rear defogger but misses out on the rear wiper and washer. Apart from these, it looks similar to the better-equipped versions of the i20.

Inside, the i20 Sportz comes with a dual-tone black and grey cabin and fabric seat upholstery. It also gets adjustable front headrests, and the driver’s seat can be adjusted for height. In terms of features, this variant of the i20 comes with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system which supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a semi-digital driver’s display, automatic AC, cruise control, Type-C USB charger at the front, and powered ORVMs. But instead of a premium 7-speaker Bose sound system, it gets a basic 4-speaker audio system with 2 tweeters.

The mid-spec Sportz variant of the i20 also comes with amenities like rear AC vents and a cooled glove box. A Type-C USB port has been provided for rear passengers as well. In terms of safety, it is equipped with six airbags (as standard), ABS with EBD, electronic stability control (ESC), hill-start assist, and a tire pressure monitoring system.

Powertrain Check

The Hyundai i20 facelift only comes with a 1.2-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine (83PS/115Nm) only. In the mid-spec Sportz variant, it is mated to either a 5-speed manual transmission or a CVT automatic. For the CVT models, the power output increases to 88PS, and it also gets ‘Normal’ and ‘Sports’ driving modes.

Price Range & Rivals

The Hyundai i20 facelift is priced from Rs 6.99 lakh to Rs 11.01 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). It takes on the Tata Altroz, Maruti Baleno, and Toyota Glanza. You can also check out our image gallery for the lower-spec Magna variant of the i20 facelift by clicking here.

Honda Elevate Mid-spec V Variant Detailed In 6 Images

The mid-spec V trim of the Honda Elevate is also the entry-level automatic variant of the compact SUV

Honda Elevate

The Honda Elevate is all set to enter the battle of compact SUVs, and its bookings are already underway for Rs 5,000. The automaker will announce the prices on September 4. Ahead of that, the units have already arrived at Honda dealerships.

Though the Elevate will be available in four broad trims, in this story, we have detailed the one-above-base V trim of the Elevate in six pictures.

Honda Elevate

Let’s begin with the fascia. This mid-spec V variant features LED headlights connected by a chrome bar. While it does have the same imposing grille as the top-end variant, it doesn’t get fog lamps. That said, there are no other alterations to the front of the SUV.

In profile, this particular variant of the Elevate doesn’t feature alloy wheels, instead sitting on 16-inch steel wheels with plastic covers. Another noticeable omission are the roof rails. Nonetheless, it still gets ORVM-mounted turn indicators and body-colored door handles. In contrast, the top-spec Elevate variant boasts chrome door handles and dual-tone colourways.

Honda Elevate

From the rear, the V variant of the Elevate comes with LED tail lamps and a shark fin antenna, but no rear wiper.

Honda Elevate

In contrast to the brown interior of the top-spec Elevate, the V variant of the Honda SUV features a black and beige theme. It is equipped with an 8-inch touchscreen system, which is smaller than the unit offered within the higher-specced variants. Nevertheless, it still supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay as well as connected car tech. This variant also gets a more basic analogue instrument cluster with a small MID in the centre, as opposed to the 7-inch semi-digital driver’s display found on the higher-end variants.

Other features on board include automatic AC with rear AC vents, steering-mounted audio controls, dual airbags, and a rearview camera. Features like the single-pane sunroof, wireless charger and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) are all limited to the higher-end models.

First Major Meta Threads Update Is Here With Some Much-Needed Features

The latest update for Threads introduces several important features that were sorely needed. One notable addition is automatic post translations, although it works differently compared to Instagram or Twitter. When you encounter a post in a language other than English, you’ll notice a translate icon next to the number of likes and replies. However, unlike Instagram’s dedicated “See Translation” button, Threads generates a translated version of posts directly beneath the text.

Keep in mind that the translation feature, like Instagram’s, is only suitable for basic translations. It may struggle when it comes to capturing colloquial phrases and idioms accurately.

If you’ve recently updated Threads on iOS but don’t see all the mentioned features, try closing and reopening the app. If they still don’t appear, be patient as the updates are rolled out gradually. According to Roth, Threads relies on server-delivered flags, and it might take some time for them to be fully released. Android users who are interested in testing the latest features can join the Threads beta testing program.
