The latest car to get a panoramic sunroof is the facelifted Kia Seltos from its mid-spec HTK+ variant. This variant is also equipped with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, auto AC, ambient lighting, six airbags, front parking sensors, rear camera, and cruise control. However, the sunroof is available only from the HTK+ Turbo variant, while its diesel and regular petrol variants miss out on the feature. 

Maruti Grand Vitara

Panoramic sunroof feature is available from the Alpha variant of the Grand Vitara. The hybrid variants of the SUV already get this feature as standard. Unlike the other cars, the sunroof of the Grand Vitara opens more than halfway of the entire roof length, giving more accessibility to the rear passengers. On the Alpha variant, you also get features like paddle shifters, cruise control, push button start-stop, auto AC, a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, six airbags, and a 360-degree camera. 

Toyota Hyryder

Price Onwards – Rs 16.04 lakh

Grand Vitara’s sibling from another mother, the Toyota Hyryder, is also offered with a panoramic sunroof. Just like Maruti, Toyota offers the feature from the SUV’s second-from-top variant. Other features onboard include cruise control, a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, push button start-stop, paddle shifters (only for AT), six airbags, and a 360-degree camera. 

Hyundai Alcazar

MG Hector offers a sunroof right from its second-from-base Shine variant, but the panoramic sunroof is available from the next-in-line Smart. 75 Percent Of Hyundai Exter Buyers Chose The Sunroof Variants


The sunroof is available from the Exter’s mid-spec SX variant, making it one of the most affordable cars with this feature

Hyundai Exter

  • The Hyundai Exter has received over 50,000 bookings since bookings began in the first week of May. 

  • 75 percent of the bookings were for the sunroof variants, which are available in the top three trims, with prices starting from Rs 8 lakh. 

  • One-third of the buyers opted for the AMT variants, which are priced from Rs 7.97 lakh. 

  • The Exter features an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless charger, six airbags, and dual dash cams. 

  • The Exter is priced between Rs 6 lakh to Rs 10 lakh. 

The Hyundai Exter, the latest micro SUV in the market, has received over 50,000 bookings. Bookings for the Exter began in the first week of May and it went on sale on July 10. The price of the Exter ranges from Rs 6 lakh to Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). 

Sunroof Variants In Demand

According to Hyundai, more than 75 percent of the buyers have opted for a sunroof. The sunroof is available in the top three variants, with prices starting from Rs 8 lakh. The Exter is one of the most affordable cars with a sunroof. The Exter is available in the following variants: EX, S, SX, SX (O), and SX (O) Connect. 

The sunroof feature is also offered on the Exter’s CNG variants, which are priced at Rs 8.97 lakh. This allows CNG buyers to enjoy a feature-rich experience.

Buyers Flocking Towards AMT Too

Hyundai Exter AMT

More than one-third of the bookings were for the AMT variants. Hyundai offers the convenience of an automatic transmission from the S variant onwards. With a starting price of Rs 7.97 lakh (ex-showroom), customers can get an AMT-equipped variant for around Rs 10 lakh (on-road). 

The Exter is equipped with a 1.2-litre petrol engine that produces 83PS and 114Nm of torque. It is available with a 5-speed manual transmission and an AMT option with paddle shifters. The manual variants have a fuel efficiency of 19.2kmpl, while the AMT variant offers a claimed fuel efficiency of 19.4kmpl. 

The CNG variant of the Exter produces 69PS and 95.2Nm of torque, with a claimed mileage of 27.1km/kg.

Tata Punch Sunroof

As you can see from the table, the Tata Punch offers a sunroof starting from the Accomplished S variant, which is priced at Rs 8.25 lakh. It’s important to note that the Creative Flagship is the renamed version of the Creative iRA variant, which not only features a sunroof but also includes Tata’s iRA connected car technology.

For comparison, the sunroof variant of the Altroz begins with the XM (S) variant (but without voice assist), priced at Rs 7.35 lakh, making it Rs 90,000 more affordable than the starting sunroof variant of the Tata Punch. In contrast, the direct rival of the Tata Punch, the Hyundai Exter, provides a sunroof starting from its SX variant, priced at Rs 8 lakh. This is Rs 25,000 less than the Tata Punch’s Accomplished S variant.

The Punch is currently being offered with a 1.2-litre petrol engine which makes 88PS and 115Nm, mated to either a 5-speed manual transmission or a 5-speed AMT. The same engine is also being offered in the CNG variant, which makes 74PS and 103Nm in CNG mode, and comes paired only to a 5-speed manual.

Price Range & Rivals

The Tata Punch is priced from Rs 6 lakh to Rs 10.10 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). It’s the direct rival to the Hyundai Exter, and considering its price, it can also be regarded as an alternative to the Citroen C3, Maruti Ignis, Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger.
