Japan’s Cullinan Killer: Rumored Toyota Century SUV Now Confirmed

These days, almost everything in the automotive industry needs to be a crossover or an SUV in order to stay relevant. However, there seems to be no end in sight to the demand for SUVs and crossovers. During the unveiling of the new Toyota Alphard luxury minivan, a rumor that has been circulating for quite some time was confirmed—a Century SUV. This means that Toyota is officially creating an SUV version of its iconic full-size luxury sedan. Toyota’s Chief Branding officer, Simon Humphries, stated that the Century offers the ultimate Chauffeur experience and it will have to evolve. He also mentioned that more details will be shared later in the year about this new addition to Toyota’s chauffeur series.

The Century is a full-size flagship luxury sedan made by Toyota, and it is exclusive to the Japanese market. It is often compared to models like the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and Rolls-Royce Phantom. It is highly sought after by Japanese VIPs and high-profile businessmen. The current generation Century has been on sale since 2018 and is built on the rear-wheel drive N platform. The Century SUV will most likely debut before a next-generation Century sedan appears.

What We Wish The Century SUV Will Be

As Toyota’s flagship SUV, we hope that the Century SUV will be the epitome of Japanese prestige and luxury. It should not be based on a front-wheel drive architecture like many other Lexus and Toyota crossover SUVs. There are two possible routes for Toyota to take. The first is to utilize the TNGA-F platform, which would allow the SUV to have off-roading capabilities like the Lexus LX 600. The second option, and the one we prefer, is to use the TNGA-L platform, which is already used in the Lexus LS and LC. This platform offers high levels of comfort and on-road performance.

What Could It Look Like?

The Century SUV will likely resemble an SUV version of the Century sedan. However, it will not simply be a rugged version of the sedan. Toyota will combine vintage design elements with modern aesthetics, just like they did with the current Century sedan. The interior will follow a similar theme, with vintage and modern elements blended together. Rear seat comfort will be a highlight, with the possibility of an optional two-seater configuration.

Hybrid Propulsion As Standard

The Century SUV will most likely feature a hybrid electric drivetrain. It could either use a V-8 hybrid engine, similar to the one in the current Century sedan, or a V-6 hybrid engine used in the Lexus LS and LC. Both options offer a combination of power and fuel efficiency. There is also a possibility that Toyota will develop a completely new powertrain for the Century SUV.

How Much Would A Century SUV Cost?

In Japan, the current Toyota Century sedan has a base price of ¥20,080,000 ($140,000), making it more expensive than any Lexus or Toyota vehicle. The Century SUV will likely be even more expensive, possibly reaching the $200,000 mark. The limited production run and hand-built assembly process of the Century sedan contribute to its exclusivity and high price. It remains to be seen if the world is ready to pay nearly $200,000 for a Toyota SUV.

Easy Tips on How to Soundproof Any Room for a Quiet Space

When it comes to soundproofing a room, it’s important to first assess the existing makeup of the space. You may be experiencing sound leaks through windows, doors, or walls, either from outside noise or noise escaping from within. Take some time to quietly walk around the room and listen carefully to identify areas where sound is entering or leaving. If you’re dealing with particularly loud issues, you can even use an Apple Watch as a makeshift decibel detection tool, as it can help you measure the noise levels. Older windows might simply need some new caulk, and your door may have small gaps where it meets the frame that need to be addressed.

To gain valuable insights for your soundproofing project, listen for external noises or play music inside the room and explore the boundaries from outside. This will help you determine the best strategies for your specific needs. For example, if you want to reduce the sound of traffic coming from outside, focusing on the windows and adding insulation to the ceiling might be the most effective solution. On the other hand, setting up a home studio will require additional steps to achieve proper soundproofing.

Meta scales back its COVID-19 misinformation policy

During the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, Meta, along with other major platforms, took steps to combat the spread of dangerous misinformation and disinformation. This move was prompted by the tech industry’s role in shaping public opinion on various societal issues, such as elections and child welfare. The goal was to protect users and limit the negative health effects and deaths caused by COVID-19.

As misinformation about COVID-19, including false claims about vaccines and the origins of the virus, became more prevalent, Meta joined forces with platforms like Twitter and YouTube to establish official guidelines on content that could be shared. However, as global COVID-19 cases and deaths declined, Twitter stopped enforcing its policy. Now, with national governments and the World Health Organization adopting a more relaxed approach to the pandemic, Meta and other platforms are following suit.

Although COVID-19 cases are lower compared to two years ago, there are still thousands of Americans testing positive for the disease daily, particularly among the elderly, despite widespread vaccination. With the possibility of future outbreaks, Meta and other platforms may revise their policies once again. In the meantime, Meta’s misinformation policy will remain intact in areas where COVID-19 is still considered a public health emergency.

The new 2008 will be available from launch with a new, fully electric powertrain. Available across all trim levels, the e-2008’s new 54kWh battery brings an increased range of up to 251 miles (WLTP), while a new electric motor increases power to 156hp – an increase of 15%.

Customers can also opt for a 1.2-litre PureTech petrol engine. The PureTech 100, available exclusively in Active trim, is paired with a six-speed manual gearbox, while the PureTech 130 (available in Allure and GT trims) can be combined with either an EAT8 eight-speed automatic gearbox or a six-speed manual gearbox.

From 2024, a new 136hp HYBRID powertrain will join the 2008 line-up, combining a 1.2-litre PureTech petrol engine with a new six-speed dual-clutch electrified gearbox incorporating an electric motor – offering up to a 20% reduction in CO2 emissions over petrol models.

Specification

PEUGEOT has simplified the trim line-up on the new 2008, bringing it into line with the rest of the PEUGEOT range. Customers can choose from Active, Allure and GT, while a First Edition model is available exclusively on the fully electric e-2008.

Inside, all new 2008 models now come with a 10-inch central touchscreen as standard as part of PEUGEOT’s innovative i-Cockpit®, as well as a row of toggle switches for quick access to key functions. The upgraded i-Cockpit® also includes a new compact steering wheel featuring the PEUGEOT shield.

Active models feature a new ‘Calcite’ interior stitching and ‘Mistral’ roof lining as well as a suite of safety and convenience features, such as rear parking sensors, cruise control with speed limiter and automatic emergency braking. A new 10-inch Touchscreen and Wireless MirrorScreen for Apple Carplay™ and Android Auto™ complete the Active trim.

Meanwhile, Allure trim brings an enhanced technology offering including PEUGEOT’s i-Connect infotainment system with natural voice recognition, as well as a new 10-inch digital instrument cluster. Front parking sensors, an electronic handbrake and a drive mode selector are also standard on Allure models.

A leather steering wheel with GT lettering, keyless entry and wireless smartphone charging enhance comfort and connectivity. Drivers can also choose from eight colours of ambient lighting linked to the drive modes.

To celebrate the launch of the new e-2008, PEUGOT is offering a First Edition model with an enhanced specification based on GT trim. Additional features include heated Alcantara® seats with ‘Adamite’ stitching. The driver’s seat is also electrically adjustable and comes with a massage function. A tri-phase 11kW onboard charger is fitted as standard (available as an option on other trims), while upgraded infotainment is provided with the PEUGEOT i-Connect® Advanced with Connected Navigation.
