Hero MotoCorp Sold 436,993 Motorcycles And Scooters In June 2023

India is one of the largest motorcycle markets globally. In 2022, over 16 million new motorcycles were sold in India, where motorcycles are considered essential for daily mobility. Hero MotoCorp, a key player in the Indian motorcycle market, has gained recognition for its partnership with Harley-Davidson and the launch of the highly anticipated X440 model. Though Hero primarily operates in Asian and Latin American markets, it is one of the largest motorcycle manufacturers in the world in terms of sales volume alone.

Hero MotoCorp’s Vida V1 Electric Scooter Makes Its Way To Eager Customers

In June 2023, Hero MotoCorp achieved remarkable sales figures by selling 436,993 motorcycles in India. This represents a substantial market share of around 32 percent, indicating that many Indian commuters rely on Hero’s motorcycles for their transportation needs. With the monsoon season approaching and positive economic indicators like the upcoming festive season, Hero MotoCorp anticipates even higher demand throughout the rest of 2023.

The launch of the Harley-Davidson X440 model will undoubtedly enhance Hero’s reputation not only in the Indian market but also globally. This small-displacement Harley holds the distinction of being Harley-Davidson’s smallest model with a single-cylinder engine in its modern lineup. Additionally, the X440 marks Hero MotoCorp’s entry into the premium segment, positioning itself against other esteemed Indian manufacturers such as Royal Enfield and Jawa.

2023 Harley-Davidson X440 Officially Launched In India

For several months now, Harley-Davidson of India has been teasing its very first model in collaboration with Indian motorcycle manufacturer Hero MotoCorp. Dubbed the X440, this beginner-friendly motorcycle had the hopes of appealing to new riders, as well as those on a budget, by presenting itself as an approachable retro-style machine that doubles as a capable city slicker.

Now, Harley-Davidson and Hero MotoCorp have officially pulled the covers off the X440, revealing all the specs and details we’ve been so eagerly anticipating. Right off the bat, there will be three variants for the new X440 – Classic, Vivid, and Pinnacle, all of which built on the same foundations, but featuring varying styling cues and trim options. As for the price, the base model Classic retails for Rs 229,000 ($2,796 USD), while the mid-tier Vivid model will set you back Rs 249,000 ($3,040 USD). Lastly, the top-of-the-line Pinnacle model retails for Rs 269,000 ($3,284 USD).

Harley-Davdison Drops Images Of India-Made X440 Ahead Of Launch

As for the differentiating features among the three variants, well, the Classic variant is the most barebones of the lot, featuring spoked wheels and monotone colorways. It gets a blacked out engine, as well, which sort of conceal the cooling fins, giving the bike a slim look. Meanwhile, the Vivid version is fitted with alloy wheels and is finished in two-tone colorways. Meanwhile, the top-spec Pinnacle is equipped with two-tone alloy wheels, fancy color schemes complete with 3D decals, and machined cooling fins that give it a thoroughly premium aesthetic.

On the performance side of the equation, the X440 is powered by a 440cc, air-cooled, fuel-injected, single cylinder engine. It pumps out 27 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 26 pound-feet of torque at 4,000 rpm, putting it squarely within the performance figures of other retro-style 400cc machines from the likes of Jawa and Royal Enfield. Power is likewise sent to the rear wheel via a six-speed manual transmission. Harley has thoughtfully added an assist slipper clutch for a smoother, more comfy ride.

Harley’s newest small-displacement roadster is equipped with robust and modern underpinnings which are designed to tackle India’s less-than-perfect road conditions. As such, it’s fitted with a 43-millimeter inverted front fork and gas-powered, preload-adjustable twin shocks at the rear. The bike comes to a stop with front and rear disc brakes with dual-channel ABS from Brembo subsidiary ByBre. Last but not least, the Harley X440 rolls on 18-inch front and 17-inch rear wheels shod in MRF Zapper Hyke tires.

Harley-Davidson has kept the tech package on the X440 pretty simple. Apart from dual-channel ABS, the cruiser has no other rider aids – no traction control, no rider modes. It does, however, feature a minimalist TFT display pod, and a full set of LED lights.

5 Much Needed Updates We’ll Finally See On The Facelifted Kia Seltos

The updated version of the Kia Seltos compact SUV for India will debut in India on July 4

Facelifted Kia Seltos Front

The launch of the facelifted Kia Seltos is approaching, as the compact SUV is finally receiving its biggest update in four years. Its exterior styling was recently leaked, and we also got a glimpse of its interior through some spy shots.

When the Seltos debuted the Kia brand in India in 2019, it was one of the most feature-rich compact SUVs in its segment. However, over the years, the competition has caught up and surpassed it in some areas. To regain its status as a standout SUV, the Seltos is finally getting five much-needed upgrades in the form of a facelift:

Panoramic Sunroof

The facelifted version is finally getting a panoramic sunroof, a feature that is seen in most of its rivals. The Hyundai Creta, Maruti Grand Vitara, MG Astor, and Toyota Hyryder, all offer this feature. The addition of a panoramic sunroof will enhance the premium and airy appeal of the cabin.

ADAS for Safety

The updated Seltos will come equipped with more advanced technology and increased safety with the presence of ADAS features. The radar-based safety technology will take care of the SUV’s active safety, including lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, forward collision avoidance assist, and blind-spot monitoring. While this won’t make it the first in the segment to offer these features, it will put it ahead of some key competitors.

A Digital Instrument Cluster

Unlike the outgoing Seltos that uses a twin-pod analogue console, the facelifted version will feature a digital driver’s display. It will be part of the dual integrated 10.25-inch displays, which will house the instrument panel and a touchscreen infotainment system.

Facelifted Kia Seltos Cabin

A Redesigned Cabin

Although feature-laden, the cabin of the Seltos was starting to become outdated in terms of design. The updated Seltos will come with a redesigned interior featuring a new dashboard layout, refreshed AC vents, a more premium climate control panel, and even a new seat upholstery design. This will once again make the Seltos a standout and one of the most modern offerings in its segment.

It will also receive minor cosmetic tweaks to the exterior design to give it a sharp and fresh look while still being recognizable as a Kia Seltos.

Performance Upgrade

Facelifted Kia Seltos Front

When it was launched, the Seltos was one of the most powerful compact SUVs with its 140PS 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine. However, with the entry of the Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun, it lost that title. With the facelift, the Seltos will regain its title as it will be powered by the Carens’ 160PS 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine. Another standout feature will be the option for iMT (manual without a clutch pedal), along with the now commonplace 7-speed DCT (dual-clutch automatic).

Elon Musk Confirms Tesla India Debut After Meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi

The Model 3 and Model Y could be Tesla’s debut cars in India

Elon Musk Narendra Modi

BIG NEWS! Tesla India launch has just been confirmed by the brand’s boss, Elon Musk. The Twitter CEO met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the latter’s visit to the US, where they talked about several issues ranging from energy to spirituality.

In a public interview, Elon Musk said, “It was a fantastic meeting with the Prime Minister and I like him quite a lot. He visited our factory a few years ago. So, we have known each other for a while.”

“I am incredibly excited about the future of India. I think India has more promise than any large country in the world,” he added.

When is Tesla coming, then?

Tesla Model Y

Musk also said that Tesla will be in India as soon as humanly possible. The Prime Minister has invited the Tesla founder to explore significant investment opportunities in India. This further strengthens the reports that Tesla is planning to set up a factory in India and sell locally produced EVs. This will ensure lower prices of the still premium EVs.

Tesla talks so far

Tesla Model 3

The Tesla-India talks have seen several ups and downs over the years. The electric carmaker even registered its office in Bengaluru and we spotted several test mules of the Model 3 too. However, high import taxes were the main hurdle which made Tesla sceptical about its India move. The American carmaker’s request for lower tariffs on pure EVs was shot down and the company was uncertain about making manufacturing investments without being able to test the market with its products first.

The carmaker currently has the Model 3, Model Y, Model X, and Model S on sale globally. India might get the Model 3 sedan and Model Y crossover at first. The Cybertruck will be globally launched sometime in 2024, while the carmaker is also readying up a new entry-level EV.

Kia Carnival No Longer On Sale In India

The carmaker is still deciding on bringing the latest generation of the premium MPV to India

  • Kia India has delisted the Carnival from its website.

  • It was last offered in both 6- and 7-seater configurations.

  • The Carnival was powered by a 200PS 2.2-litre diesel engine, which hasn’t been updated to meet new Real Driving Emission (RDE) norms.

  • Towards the end of its life cycle, the Carnival had a starting price of Rs 30.99 lakh (ex-showroom).

The Kia Carnival has now been discontinued in India, as the carmaker is no longer accepting reservations for the premium MPV and it has also been taken down from the official website. Introduced in 2020, the Carnival impressed all with its premium cabin that was positioned above the likes of the Toyota Innova Crysta without having to enter the far pricier luxury MPV segment.

The Carnival which was sold here was already a previous-gen model for the manufacturer, and Kia decided not to update it to comply with the latest BS6 Phase 2 emissions norms. The Carnival was offered in both 6- and 7-seater configurations, and was available in a total of three broad variants. There was even a four-row variant at the time of launch but was discontinued shortly after. Towards the end of its lifecycle, the Carnival retailed from Rs 30.99 lakh to Rs 35.49 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

Features It Offered

The Kia Carnival’s cabin had an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.1-inch touchscreen display for middle-row occupants, a dual-panel sunroof, and three-zone climate control. At launch, it was one of the best equipped non-luxury MPVs in India. Now, various three-row offerings from mass-market brands have caught up and passed the Carnival in terms of technology on offer.

In terms of safety, Kia’s premium MPV offered up to six airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), cornering brake control and hill assist.

Engine & Transmission

The Carnival was only available with a 2.2-litre diesel engine which made 200PS and 440Nm, mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission.

Will It Return To India?

Kia showcased the facelifted fourth-generation Carnival at the 2023 Auto Expo in Delhi. It is bigger in size than the outgoing model, and has an enhanced list of features such as a bigger touchscreen and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). Kia is still evaluating the market, and if all goes well, the new Kia Carnival could be launched next year.

New Design of Hyundai i20 N Line Spotted for the First Time on Camera

The hatchback sports a fresh set of alloy wheels with red brake callipers among other changes

2023 Hyundai i20 N Line spied

  • In 2021, Hyundai introduced the N Line division in India with the i20 hatchback.

  • The updated i20 N Line was spotted with partial black camouflage alongside two other refreshed i20 models.

  • Earlier spy shots revealed the same black upholstery with contrast red stitching as the current i20 N Line.

  • The regular variants of the i20 hatchback may come with paddle shifters and a new Verna-like 2-spoke steering wheel among other features.

  • The facelifted Hyundai i20 N Line is expected to be released in the second half of 2023, likely at a higher price than the current model.

Only a week after the facelifted Hyundai i20 was spotted testing in India, the refreshed version of the i20 N Line has now been seen for the first time. The updated hatchback was caught on camera alongside two other refreshed i20 models which were all partially camouflaged to hide the tweaks. It was introduced in India by Hyundai as the first model with the N Line treatment in 2021.

The New Design of Hyundai i20 N Line

2023 Hyundai i20 and i20 N Line

Despite the front and rear of the new facelifted i20 N Line being concealed by black camouflage, its profile revealed the same red side skirts as the current i20 N Line. The vehicle was also spotted with a new design of alloy wheels, featuring a red brake calliper and an “N” badge on the hubcaps. Among the regular i20 variants seen during the testing, one had steel wheels with covers, while the other in silver paint sported the same new alloy wheel design.

The refreshed i20 N Line may also have the same enhancements as the recently released European facelift model, which includes updated bumpers and multi-reflector LED headlights. The upgraded rear of the i20 N Line may also come with a connected LED taillight system.

Interior Details

2023 Hyundai i20 cabin spied

Although the images only showed black upholstery with contrast red stitching in the new facelifted i20 N Line’s cabin, another spy image gave a glimpse of the dashboard in one of the regular i20 variants. It revealed paddle shifters, a new 2-spoke steering wheel like that in the 6th-generation Verna, and the same in-car dashcam and touchscreen setup as before.

Hyundai may offer the i20 N Line with new features, such as ventilated front seats and ambient lighting, which are expected to feature on the updated standard model. They may also retain current features such as wireless phone charging, a 10.25-inch touchscreen, connected car technology, and auto climate control. The safety feature is likely to include up to six airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), and a reversing camera.

Possible Engine

The upgraded i20 N Line may continue to use the same 1-litre turbo-petrol engine (120PS/172Nm) and offer the current 6-speed iMT (clutchless manual) and 7-speed DCT (dual-clutch transmission).

Expected Release and Price

2023 Hyundai i20 rear spied

We anticipate that the facelifted i20 N Line will hit the market during the latter part of 2023, and it may be launched in conjunction with the updated i20. Its price range is sure to be higher than the current model, with the turbo versions of the Tata Altroz being its direct competitors.
