Google Introduces AI Image Generation through Search Bar

Google has announced a new feature that allows users to generate AI images directly from the search bar. As part of this update, Google is also providing a new tool for writing inspiration. An example given by Google is a scenario where someone is researching contractors to convert their garage into an office. In this case, the person can simply type, “Write a note to a contractor asking for a quote to turn my garage into a home office,” and the AI will generate a draft to inspire them.

Once the draft is generated, users have the option to make some edits. They can choose to shorten, lengthen, or make the draft more casual. Once satisfied with the AI’s work, users can export the draft to Google Docs or Gmail and make further edits themselves.

However, it’s important to note that this feature, known as the SGE program, is currently only available to a limited number of users in the U.S., India, and Japan. Additionally, access to the image generation capabilities is restricted to U.S. Google account holders who are 18 years or older.

What Happens When Planes Land on the Wrong Aircraft Carrier

The image above shows a fighter plane parked on the USS Wasp’s deck in 1952, adorned with humorous tags by the crew. These tags include jokes about the Air Force and a remark about landing on any carrier.

While the graffiti may be embarrassing and funny, it’s not surprising that planes occasionally end up on the wrong aircraft carrier. This was especially common in the 1950s and 1960s when navigation technology was less advanced than it is today. Pilots were more prone to making mistakes without tools like GPS and radar. Additionally, the decrease in major conflicts during that time meant fewer carrier strike groups with multiple carriers in the same area, making it easier for confusion to occur. However, it is still rare for US Navy planes to land on the wrong carrier. In the rare instances that it does happen, the planes are still graffitied as a lighthearted tradition.

Statement on Safety Recall 6023G

Rearview Camera Image May Not Display Properly on Certain Mazda3 and CX-3 Vehicles

Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) has notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) about a safety defect in certain Mazda3 and CX-3 vehicles from model years 2014 to 2018 for Mazda3 and 2016 to 2021 for CX-3.

The issue involves the rearview camera wiring harness, which may get damaged from vibrations during normal vehicle operation or when closing the liftgate due to an improperly designed harness fastener. As a result, the connector pins wear out and create high electrical resistance. This can lead to a distorted or flickering image on the rearview camera when reversing, potentially affecting the driver’s judgment and increasing the risk of a crash.

There are no warning signs prior to the occurrence of this defect, and there have been no reports of accidents or injuries related to this issue.

A total of 227,335 vehicles are affected in the United States:

  • 2014-2018 Mazda3 5-door hatchback – 141,491 units
  • 2016-2021 CX-3 – 85,844 units

Owners of affected vehicles will be notified by mail. For the latest updates, please visit mazdarecallinfo.com or nhtsa.gov.

Meta’s Next-Generation AI Image Generator Challenges DALL-E

Meta has developed an image generator that stands out for its exceptional performance, but it is not the only player in the field. Other companies have also introduced similar tools, and many major players offer their own versions. OpenAI’s popular DALL-E, which made headlines last year, comes in multiple formats and enjoys a strong following. Additionally, OpenAI’s GPT-4 model has image generation capabilities, although a plugin is required for the web tool. Adobe quickly incorporated AI into its suite of services, with “Firefly,” its generative AI model, that is available for free. However, subscribers gain access to Adobe’s stock photo library, enhancing the functionality of the AI tool. Google Bard also utilizes Firefly for image generation. There are also powerful tools that require some effort and effective prompts to use, including Stable Diffusion and Midjourney.

Unfortunately, Meta has not disclosed when or if the new image generator will be released to the public. With the recent launch of Threads, their new social media platform, and the challenges faced by “the Metaverse,” Meta has a lot on its plate. Nevertheless, we hope that the AI image generator will become available to the public in the coming weeks.

Rendering Reveals Potential Look of BMW M5 Touring Sporty Wagon

The official teaser campaign has begun for the upcoming BMW M5 Touring. While the initial image only provides a glimpse of the high-performance wagon covered in a sheet, the team at Kolesa has attempted to uncover what the production version might look like.

The M5 Touring shares its front end design with the sedan, featuring an aggressive fascia with prominent inlets on the outer edges. In the center, there is a trapezoidal section divided into segments by vertical bars. The grille is broad, although not as large as in other BMW models like the latest 4 Series. The hood has a dip in the center.

In terms of styling, the rendering of the M5 Touring matches the sedan up to the A-pillar. The rendered M5 boasts wheels with a complex design of split spokes, finished in black and with red calipers visible behind them.

From the rear, one can clearly see the wide fenders of the M5 Touring. The roof spoiler features two raised sections, and underneath the hatchback, there is a prominent diffuser with dual exhaust pipes on each side.

According to reports, both the M5 sedan and Touring wagon will feature a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 engine paired with an electric motor for additional assistance. In the BMW XM Label Red, this powertrain setup produces an impressive 738 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque, although official figures for these cars are not yet available.

While there are no pictures of the new M5’s interior at this time, it is likely to resemble the regular 5 Series. The standard model of the 5 Series features a 12.3-inch instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch infotainment screen. The performance-focused M5 might have additional upgrades such as seats with thicker side bolsters and sporty trim, possibly including carbon-fiber elements.

BMW has confirmed that the M5 Touring is being developed and tested on public roads in Munich, Germany, at the M GmbH headquarters in Garching, as well as at the Nürburgring racetrack. The wagon is expected to go on sale in 2024.

This will be the third generation of the M5 Touring, following the introduction of the first model in 1992 and the V10-powered variant in 2007.

The new M5 Touring is set to debut around the same time as rival models from its German competitors. Audi has a refreshed RS6 Avant with wider front fenders on the way, and there is confirmation of a new E63 wagon from Mercedes-AMG, although only spy shots of the E53 variant have been revealed so far.
