Rearview and 360-Degree Images May Not Display on Certain 2024 MY CX-90 and Mazda3 Vehicles

WASHINGTON, DC. (Oct. 27, 2023) – Mazda North American Operations (MNAO), on behalf of Mazda Motor Corporation, has reported a safety defect to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) regarding certain 2024 MY CX-90 and Mazda3 vehicles.

There is an issue with the view monitor camera control module, which may cause flickering or a complete absence of images from the front, side, and rear-view cameras on the center display monitor. This is due to improper processing logic, resulting in image deterioration.

If the front, side, and rear-view camera images are lost while reversing or using the 360-degree monitor, it can increase the risk of a crash. Unfortunately, there is no warning before this defect occurs.

Fortunately, there have been no reports of accidents or injuries associated with this defect.

The following vehicles in the U.S. and U.S. territories are affected:

– 2024 MY CX-90: Approximately 10,782 units

– 2024 MY Mazda3: Approximately 1,121 units

Owners of affected vehicles will be notified by U.S. Mail. For the latest updates, please check mazdarecallinfo.com or nhtsa.gov.

The revisions planned for the midsize pickup have been somewhat out in the open, with spy photographers capturing prototypes of the 2024 Gladiator being tested without camouflage. Furthermore, the truck’s SUV sibling, the Wrangler, received updates earlier this year and was unveiled at the New York Auto Show in April.

Rearview Camera Image May Not Display Properly on Certain Mazda3 and CX-3 Vehicles

Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) has notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) about a safety defect in certain Mazda3 and CX-3 vehicles from model years 2014 to 2018 for Mazda3 and 2016 to 2021 for CX-3.

The issue involves the rearview camera wiring harness, which may get damaged from vibrations during normal vehicle operation or when closing the liftgate due to an improperly designed harness fastener. As a result, the connector pins wear out and create high electrical resistance. This can lead to a distorted or flickering image on the rearview camera when reversing, potentially affecting the driver’s judgment and increasing the risk of a crash.

There are no warning signs prior to the occurrence of this defect, and there have been no reports of accidents or injuries related to this issue.

A total of 227,335 vehicles are affected in the United States:

  • 2014-2018 Mazda3 5-door hatchback – 141,491 units
  • 2016-2021 CX-3 – 85,844 units

Owners of affected vehicles will be notified by mail. For the latest updates, please visit mazdarecallinfo.com or nhtsa.gov.
