Delage D12: £1.7m hybrid hypercar enters production

French manufacturer Delage has started production of its new limited-run D12 hybrid hypercar. The company, which was originally active from 1905 to 1953, was revived in 2019 with the aim of creating a sleek two-seater that provides a Formula 1 experience for the road.

The D12 GT, showcased at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed, is equipped with a powerful 976bhp V12 engine and a 109bhp electric motor, resulting in a total power output of 1085bhp and 794lb ft of torque.

Featuring a central carbon fiber monocoque, a frontal carbon fiber crash structure, and an aluminum rear frame, the D12 has a tandem seating configuration where the passenger sits behind the driver. It also utilizes a unique contractive suspension set-up developed by Delage’s chassis and suspension chief Mauro Bianchi, who works alongside technical director Benoit Bagur and chief test driver Jacques Villeneuve.

Delage has completed four D12 units and has started work on the planned limited run of 30 cars, priced from approximately £1.7 million each. Laurent Tapie, the serial entrepreneur behind the revival of Delage, mentioned that there has been significant interest in the project, stating that “the car attracts a lot of attention because there’s nothing else like it out there.”

Although it will take four to five years to build the cars, Tapie believes in the long-term success of the brand, acknowledging that it will take time to establish awareness since the brand has been dormant for 70 years.

While production of the D12 is underway, Delage has already begun designing its second hypercar, which will be a grand tourer two-seater similar to the Bugatti Chiron. Tapie revealed that it will also be road-legal and employ a hybrid powertrain. Furthermore, there are hints of a third car being in the works, targeting a different segment.

The DS 7 Élysée is a unique design based on the DS 7 E-TENSE 4×4 300, with added armor, an extended chassis, and special equipment for occupant protection.

The positive response to the exclusive DS 7 Élysée has led to the development of a limited batch of armoured DS 7 Vauban cars. The DS 7 Vauban is based on the DS 7 E-TENSE 4×4 300 and features reinforced materials such as aramids and safety glass, offering a VPAM 4 level of ballistics protection. Additional specifications can be requested for enhanced protection (automatic fire extinguishers, closed-circuit ventilation, siren, intercom, etc.), passenger comfort (extra USB sockets, reading lights, etc.), and vehicle customization (body colors, interior trim, stitching, flag holders).

The DS 7 Vauban is named after a series of forts built in the late 17th century. These forts, designed by Marquis Sébastien Le Prestre de Vauban, can be found across France and Europe and are listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The DS 7 Vauban is manufactured by WELP France in Hérimoncourt, following the acquisition of a former Stellantis site. The first units will be available from April 2024.

The Art Tour routes, available in London, North-East, North-West, East Anglia, and Central Scotland, provide drivers with greater access to the UK’s diverse range of art collections. The tours showcase a mix of sculptures, installations, and paintings, all free of charge.

The initiative was developed in response to research findings that 55% of British individuals are discouraged from visiting galleries and exhibitions due to entrance fees. Additionally, 33% of respondents expressed a need for more guidance on local art initiatives, galleries, or public art installations.

To access the Art Tour routes, drivers can visit the DS Automobiles website. Research conducted by DS also revealed that 60% of Brits feel uninformed about art and artists, despite acknowledging the positive impact of art on the local economy. Claude Monet was the most recognized artist, while Vincent Van Gogh’s ‘Sunflowers’ was the most recognizable individual work of art.

French Gear Brand Segura Presents New Santana Moto Sneakers

French gear and equipment brand Segura has a wide selection of motorcycle gear catering to all sorts of riders. In particular, the brand focuses on street gear, with designs featuring a retro-inspired touch. Recently, Segura has also begun catering to urban riders with multiple pieces of textile gear. The newest of which has been launched just in time for the fall riding season, and it’s called the Satana sneakers.

A decade or so ago, the idea of wearing sneakers when riding a motorcycle was out of the question for any ATGATT believer. These days, however, it can be hard to tell a moto-certified pair of shoes from a regular pair of high-cut sneakers. This is largely thanks to advancements in technology when it comes to textile materials which boast incredible abrasion resistance and impact protection. This is exactly where the new Segura Santana sneakers are categorized.

On the outside, the sneaker is made entirely of a microfiber and polyester blend which keeps the shoe lightweight, while offering abrasion-resistant qualities. On the inside, Segura has equipped the Santana with a waterproof membrane to keep your feet dry should you find yourself caught in the rain during a ride. In true sneaker fashion, the Santana features a lace-up closure, however, there’s also a side zipper and pull tab on the back for easy wearing and removal.

On the safety side of the equation, the Santana receives rigid reinforcements on the toe and heel, neatly concealed beneath the sneaker’s textile exterior. Additionally, reinforcements that protect against crushing and torsional forces are also present, and so too are reflective inserts for extra visibility in low light conditions. All in all, the Segura Santana sneakers are certified according to the EN 13634 safety standard.
