Peugeot 3008

Visually, the 3008 and e-3008 are nearly as good as equivalent. The solely modifications aside from an ‘e’ badge in front of ‘3008’ on the bootlid are that the wheel arches are slightly less flared and don’t get a gloss end on the hybrid. Full geek factors for those who additionally spot that the tyres are 10mm narrower too.

The two vehicles share the identical sheet steel, design and dimensions (4542mm lengthy and 1895mm huge), so the 3008 sits within the coronary heart of the still-booming C-SUV segment and goes up towards the likes of the Nissan Qashqai and Hyundai Tucson

Underneath, although, there are modifications to the STLA Medium structure (one thing that shall be rolled out throughout each Stellantis model’s mid-size fashions), not least because the hybrid model does with out the hunking nice 98kWh battery pack that the e-3008 is ready to accommodate.

The crash constructions are the identical, and it’s the necessity to carry these beefed-up security necessities for crash safety of the battery that designate a part of the 3008’s added 100kg-plus heft over a lot of its rivals.

The entrance suspension is basically the identical, though the hybrid has a beam axle on the rear as an alternative of the EV’s multi-link association.

The commonality is such that the 2 vehicles will run down the identical manufacturing line in Sochaux, France, and be launched on the identical time (UK orders now, deliveries in April), earlier than being joined by a plug-in hybrid variant later this yr.

Peugeot e-3008

When it launches, the e-3008 will come with a front-mounted single motor generating 207bhp and a 73kWh battery, providing a range of 326 miles. The starting price for this model is £45,850.

About 10 months later, the e-3008 lineup will expand to include a Long Range single-motor version with a slightly more powerful 227bhp motor and a 98kWh battery pack, offering a range of 435 miles. Additionally, there will be a dual-motor version with the 73kWh battery, providing four-wheel drive and a combined 316bhp.

At launch, there will also be a mild-hybrid 1.2-litre petrol model in a standard 3008, starting from £34,650. A plug-in hybrid model will be introduced around the same time as the additions to the e-3008 range.

My experience with the e-3008 brought to mind the word “fine,” a term that my colleague Matt Prior believes is not used often enough in car reviews. The e-3008 is fine to drive, akin to a comfortable 16°C day where you can leave your umbrella at home and simply wear one layer when the sun peeks out from behind the light clouds.

One of its most notable attributes is its refinement, for which the e-3008 deserves praise. It is remarkably quiet and provides a soothing driving experience. While there is some motor whine during acceleration, overall it is very peaceful.

In real-world driving scenarios, it offers sufficient power, accelerating quickly off the line before tapering off. It has a 0-62mph time of 8.7 seconds and can reach a top speed of 105mph. Its performance may not be remarkable in numerical terms, but the way it delivers performance makes for a relaxed driving experience.

Regenerative braking can be controlled using the paddles and is effective for reducing speed gradually. It offers three levels of regenerative assistance, which function well. However, the initial 10% of travel for the brake pedal feels unnervingly empty.

We had a brief test drive of an early dual-motor version on a circuit, which proved to be similar to the standard car but with improved acceleration and a more immediate response to accelerator inputs. This is not surprising, considering there are hardly any significant changes to the car apart from an additional 60kg of weight and some software revisions.

During these laps, we also had the opportunity to experience the excellent 10.6m turning circle, which will be advantageous for parking and city driving.

Peugeot has unveiled the new all-electric E-3008, featuring a sleek fastback SUV design, an advanced electric powertrain with a range of up to 435 miles, and Peugeot’s latest Panoramic i-Cockpit®.

The E-3008 will replace the popular Peugeot 3008, which has garnered praise from over 1.3 million customers across 130 countries over the past seven years. By 2025, Peugeot aims to offer a complete lineup of battery electric vehicles, with 100% of its sales in Europe being electric by 2030.

With the new E-3008, Peugeot has taken the design, driving pleasure, and electric performance to the next level:

  • Allure: The E-3008 showcases the elegance and efficiency of a fastback SUV with a reinvented design.
  • Emotion: The next-generation Peugeot Panoramic i-Cockpit® enhances the driving pleasure with its innovative features.
  • Excellence: The E-3008 offers exceptional electric range (up to 435 miles) and performance, thanks to the new STLA Medium platform and powertrains from Stellantis.

Linda Jackson, CEO of Peugeot, said: “The launch of the next-level E-3008 is a significant milestone in Peugeot’s transformation into an appealing 100% electric brand that sets new standards for design, driving pleasure, and efficiency. With its stunning exterior design, impressive Peugeot Panoramic i-Cockpit®, exceptional driving pleasure, and unprecedented electric performance, the Next-Level E-3008 ushers Peugeot into a new era as the French brand offering the widest range of mainstream electric vehicles in the market.”

STLA Medium electric platform

The Peugeot E-3008 will be the first model to utilize Stellantis’ brand-new STLA Medium electric powertrain. It is designed to deliver top-notch performance, including an impressive range of up to 435 miles, quick recharge time (20-80% in 30 minutes from a 160kW charger), and advanced connected services and functions. The STLA Medium incorporates a powerful electric motor and a 400V lithium-ion battery for enhanced power, efficiency, and torque.

The new E-3008 offers both AC and DC charging options. For AC charging, it comes with an 11kW three-phase charger as standard and a 22kW three-phase charger as an option. The Mode 4 socket supports DC rapid recharging up to 160kW, enabling fast recharging times. Additionally, the E-3008 features a Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) function, allowing users to power external devices with the car’s high-voltage battery.

Fastback SUV design

The E-3008 stands out with its distinctive fastback SUV design. Its sleek and aerodynamic shape combines elegance, efficiency, and spaciousness. Despite its compact size, it offers a generous 520 liters of boot space, on par with the previous 3008 model.

The front end of the E-3008 features ultra-compact LED headlamps and a grille, accentuating its modernity. The wheels of the vehicle contribute to both style and aerodynamic performance, with technical and geometric designs that showcase the Peugeot emblem.

At the rear, the E-3008 incorporates a “floating” spoiler inspired by the Quartz Concept, enhancing its aerodynamics and complementing the distinctive three-claw rear light signature.

The E-3008 is available in an array of six colors, including an innovative Obsession Blue that changes from blue to green depending on the lighting conditions.

Panoramic i-Cockpit®

The interior of the E-3008 boasts the striking Peugeot Panoramic i-Cockpit®. It features a curved 21” HD panoramic screen that combines the head-up display with the central touchscreen. The instrument cluster and the touchscreen are positioned for optimal ergonomics, providing essential driving information and controls.

The E-3008 introduces the i-Toggles, customizable touch-sensitive buttons that can be programmed for quick access to frequently used functions. The cabin also offers ambient LED lighting in various colors, a compact and ergonomic steering wheel with touch-sensitive controls, and Peugeot’s Air Quality System for a refreshing and calm environment.

The Peugeot Panoramic i-Cockpit® includes two paddles behind the steering wheel that enable the driver to select from three levels of regenerative braking for a customized driving experience.

  • Low: Similar to conventional brakes
  • Medium: Increased deceleration
  • High: Maximum deceleration and regeneration

The medium and high regenerative braking levels activate the rear brake lights automatically.

Instinctive driving pleasure

The new STLA Medium platform ensures dynamic road-holding with its redesigned front and rear axles. The platform’s architecture contributes to the vehicle’s agility by positioning the battery low between the wheels, lowering the center of gravity.

The E-3008 offers a suite of driver aids for a smooth driving experience, including adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, speed limit sign detection, and various safety technologies such as automatic emergency braking and blind spot monitoring.

The new E-3008 will be available in two trim levels, Allure and GT, with three all-electric powertrain options:

  • 210bhp/157kW Standard Range
  • 230bhp/170kW Long Range
  • 320bhp/240kW Dual Motor for all-wheel drive

Self-charging hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants will also be offered. The E-3008 will be manufactured at the Sochaux plant in France and will be available for sale from February 2024.

New 2024 Peugeot e-3008 revealed with bold coupe look

The new Peugeot e-3008 has been unveiled ahead of its scheduled arrival on 12 September, featuring a coupe-SUV body similar to the Peugeot 408.

One of the key highlights of the e-3008 is the newly updated i-Cockpit infotainment system. It will be the first model in the Peugeot lineup to have this system. The i-Cockpit includes a 21-inch curved panoramic display and a digital instrument cluster. The steering wheel has been redesigned to control various interior functions.

Other notable features in the e-3008 include the i-Toggle touchpad system and the relocation of the gear selector to the dashboard.

Furthermore, the e-3008 will be the first Peugeot car to use the STLA Medium architecture from parent company Stellantis. This new platform promises improved performance and functionality compared to the previous PSA Group platforms used by Peugeot EVs.

The e-3008 will offer three powertrain options, including a dual-motor four-wheel-drive variant. The largest battery option is expected to provide a range of up to 435 miles.

More details about the e-3008 will be revealed on 12 September. Additionally, an electric version of the Peugeot 5008 is expected to follow on the same platform and powertrain options.

The e-3008 and the upcoming electric Peugeot models on this new platform are designed specifically for electric propulsion, unlike the current Peugeot EVs that are based on modified internal combustion engine platforms.

PEUGEOT #CAMOCATCH OPERATION: THE CHALLENGE IS ON

PEUGEOT’s #CamoCatch operation, which involves the general public in the launch of the new E-3008, is now in its final phase: The #CamoCatch Challenge. This summer, PEUGEOT challenges everyone to take photos of the camouflaged E-3008 during its final testing on the open road. Lucky winners will have the opportunity to test drive the new E-3008 themselves.

With the new E-3008, PEUGEOT is innovating more than ever. Usually, prototypes are kept confidential and away from the public. However, the new E-3008 is being displayed in full view and involving the general public in its launch.

In May, during the initial phase of the operation, PEUGEOT used its social networks to run a vote on the new camouflages intended for the prototypes of the new E-3008.

Thousands of votes were received on the brand’s various social networks in June, and three camouflage themes were chosen:

  • “Street Art” theme
  • “Optical Art” theme
  • “Prototype” theme

These camouflages, selected by the public, were produced in June and applied to the new PEUGEOT E-3008s that will undergo final development tests on European roads this summer.

From July 15th to August 15th, the #CamoCatch Challenge invites anyone who comes across one of the camouflaged PEUGEOT E-3008s to take a photo of it, if it’s safe to do so, and share the pictures on their social networks (Facebook and Instagram) with the hashtags #CamoCatch and @PEUGEOT.

All camouflaged E-3008s have a QR Code that can be scanned to access the #CamoCatch operation web page. A prize draw will determine the 6 winners who will have an exclusive opportunity to test drive the new E-3008 next year during the press test drives.

PEUGEOT has been actively collaborating with young designers and artists since the beginning of 2023. This collaboration, initiated by the brand, has now been extended to an international audience through social media to promote PEUGEOT’s design expertise to as many people as possible.

The new PEUGEOT E-3008 will make its public debut in September this year.
