2024 Ducati SuperSport 950 Family Is Growing, Say CARB Certification Docs

In August, motorcycle manufacturers usually start announcing their new models for the following year. This year is no exception, with 2023 already seeing some model announcements. During this time, motorcycle enthusiasts eagerly await the big new bike announcements leading up to EICMA in November.

While we wait for these announcements, one way to gather clues about upcoming models is by examining official documents, such as the Executive Orders issued by the California Air Resources Board (CARB). CARB is responsible for setting vehicle emissions standards in California, and vehicles sold in the state must adhere to these standards. Generally, if a vehicle meets CARB’s standards, it can be sold throughout the rest of the US as well.

It is rare for a model to be exclusively released in the US, so information found in CARB documents can be relevant globally. This makes exploring these documents useful for anyone interested in uncovering details about new motorcycle models, regardless of their location.

Now, let’s turn our attention to the 2024 Ducati SuperSport. CARB documents are usually organized by engine and model family, making them a valuable source of information. For the 2023 models, Ducati listed two Supersport 950 models: the Supersport 950 and the SuperSport 950 S.

However, the CARB filing for the 2024 SuperSport family reveals two additional model designations that have not been seen before. In addition to the existing listings for “Ducati Supersport,” “Ducati SuperSport S,” “SuperSport 950,” and what appears to be a typo with “SuperSpotr 950 S,” there are intriguing listings for “Ducati SuperSport S T” and “Ducati SuperSport T.”

If we examine Ducati’s current lineup, we can see that they offer a wide variety of models targeting different types of riders. They have the Panigale family, DesertX, Diavel V4, XDiavel, Hypermotard family, Monster family, Streetfighter family, Multistrada family, and Scrambler family. However, there is currently no strong Touring or Sport Touring option. This suggests that Ducati may be looking to fill this gap in its lineup with the new models indicated in the CARB documents. The “T” in the model designations could stand for “Touring” or “Turismo.”

As of today, August 21, 2023, we have most of Ducati’s 2024 World Première calendar to look forward to, starting in September. Unlike the 2023 calendar, Ducati has chosen not to give teaser titles to each Episode, making it challenging to connect the CARB information with specific announcements this season. Nevertheless, we eagerly await the upcoming changes and what they will bring.

2023 BUDDS CREEK NATIONAL MX RESULTS

The Lawrence brothers showcased their skills once again at Budds Creek in Maryland. Despite a poor start in moto one, Jett Lawrence dominated the 450 class with a 1-1 finish. Chase Sexton struggled with multiple crashes throughout the day, showing that he can match Jett’s speed but lacking consistency. In the 250 class, Hunter Lawrence had a fierce battle with Justin Cooper, resulting in a tie in moto wins. However, Hunter emerged as the overall winner due to his victory in the second moto. The 250 title will be decided in the final round in Indiana next week, and Haiden Deegan has been officially eliminated from contention. Deegan had a challenging weekend, as he was leading moto one when a red flag forced a restart, and he crashed before reaching the first turn. I love this shot from my buddy Grumpy (Bryan Clark) from the 1994 Nevada Rally. This event was really out of my comfort zone as the speeds were crazy fast. I was racing a factory Honda XR628 that Bruce Ogilvie set up for me. I had a full mechanic which was huge since the days were long with incredible amounts of unmarked real estate (150-450 miles a day!) reading a road book at 90 mph wasn’t something I had practiced. During the 1700-mile event I had great days racing with my hero Stephane Peterhansel, grim results with a giant issue flatting and banging bars with my friend Daryl Folks for 150 miles during a Special Test.

Here’s a great look at the Nevada Rally, with the infamous Larry Meyers as the MC.

Itchy Boots Repairs Her Bike In The Middle Of West Africa

Season seven on the Itchy Boots channel has brought Noraly all the way to Liberia. However, the mud trail between Liberia and Côte d’Ivoire proved to be a difficult challenge as the roads were covered in mud.

Initially, Noraly started her journey in the jungle, which was a fantastic experience. Unfortunately, things took a turn for the worse. In just three episodes, her Honda CRF 300 Rally went from being in good condition to facing severe issues. The tough conditions caused the motorcycle’s clutch to get burnt, which can be seen from the amount of mud covering the trail.

The situation became even more chaotic when cars, trucks, and motorcycles started getting stuck in the muddy mess. Noraly was able to seek assistance from locals to help navigate her bike through the challenging terrain. However, it was evident that the Honda was struggling and that progressing would take a toll on the motorcycle.

Noraly had to push, waddle, and slip the clutch to keep the bike moving. She also had to be cautious not to strain the engine or overheat it. Meanwhile, other vehicles remained stuck in the mud for weeks or even a month.

Despite the challenges, Noraly managed to make it through the difficult trail. However, her CRF showed immediate signs of wear and tear, specifically burnt clutch plates. The bike continued to soldier on, but the clutch gave out while on paved roads. Stranded on the side of the road, Noraly had to be rescued and towed to the next town.

The journey continued with Noraly needing to transport the bike 570 kilometers (354 miles) across the border to Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

In the final episode, Noraly finally received the help she needed, including new parts, clutch plates, and other replacement components. Now back on the road, the adventure for Itchy Boots continues!

Teen Driving Dad’s Toyota Supra Busted Going 132 MPH In Florida

During the back-to-school season, it’s important to remind young drivers to drive safely and avoid excessive speeding. This was the message conveyed by the Orange County Sheriff’s Department in Florida through their Twitter account. They shared a video of a 16-year-old driver who was pulled over in January for driving at a staggering speed of 132 miles per hour in his dad’s Toyota Supra.

In Orange County, if someone is caught speeding 30 mph over the speed limit, they receive a mandatory court appearance and a fine of $354. If the speeding violation is 50 mph over the speed limit, the fine increases to $1,100 and the driver can face arrest with their vehicle impounded for reckless driving.

The video shows Corporal Greg Rittger explaining the reason for pulling the driver over and having him call his parents. When the parents arrive, Rittger shows them the speed recorded on the radar gun and tells them about another incident involving a 16-year-old driving a new Ford Mustang. He had warned that driver and his parents about the dangers of the vehicle but, unfortunately, the teenager wrapped the Mustang around a tree and died three weeks later. Rittger then explains the fines and mandatory court appearance to the parents before letting them go.

According to Sergeant Gerald McDaniels of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, excessive speeding among young drivers is a common occurrence. He states, “We catch them all the time. This year alone, we’ve caught multiple teenagers driving well over 100 miles an hour on different highways.”

McDaniels emphasizes the importance of parents talking to their teenage drivers and setting a good example. He encourages parents to monitor their children’s driving habits using available technology such as GPS. McDaniels believes there’s no excuse not to know how fast your kids are driving.

IMSA at Road America: BMW M Team RLL aiming for third consecutive GTP podium with the new BMW M Hybrid V8.

BMW M Team RLL is set to resume the 2023 season in the IMSA WeatherTech Sports Car Championship at Road America this weekend. After winning at Watkins Glen and securing third place at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, the team is looking to achieve a third consecutive podium finish with the BMW M Hybrid V8 in the GTP class. So far this season, the team has claimed one victory and three more podium finishes with the #25 BMW M Hybrid V8.

During the four-week break following the race at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, both BMW M Hybrid V8 racing cars have been extensively tested for the upcoming event at Road America. All four season-long drivers, Connor De Phillippi, Nick Yelloly, Augusto Farfus, and Philipp Eng, participated in a two-day test at Road America, where the cars covered over 1,491 miles on the resurfaced track. In addition, the team conducted a two-day test at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, with the #25 and #24 BMWs ending the second day on top of the timing sheets.

Road America holds significance for the BMW M Team RLL as it was the location of their first victory in 2009. Since then, the team has achieved three wins, three second places, and two third places at the Wisconsin circuit with different BMW GT racing cars.

In the GT Daytona class, three BMW M4 GT3s will compete. Bryan Sellers and Madison Snow currently lead the GTD class points with the #1 Paul Miller Racing BMW M4 GT3. Turner Motorsport also brings two BMW M4 GT3s to the race.

The race at Road America will take place on Sunday, August 6th at 10:10 local time.

Quotes ahead of the Road America race:

Connor De Phillippi (#25 BMW M Hybrid V8): “Road America is one of the greatest circuits in the US. With a fresh layer of pavement, it has added even more fun to our BMW M Hybrid V8. Our two-day tests went well, and we feel well prepared to fight for the top spot on Sunday.”

Nick Yelloly (#25 BMW M Hybrid V8): “I’m excited to race at Road America. We had a positive test there a couple of weeks ago, which helped me prepare for my first time racing at the track. I’m ready to conquer this iconic US circuit.”

Philipp Eng (#24 BMW M Hybrid V8): “We had a very productive test at Road America. The track is fantastic, and I can’t wait to return for race week and compete for a victory!”

Augusto Farfus (#24 BMW M Hybrid V8): “We have high expectations for our performance at Road America, especially since we recently tested there. The track is a unique mix of Spa and the Nordschleife, and I’m really looking forward to it.”

2024 KTM 450SX-F: FIRST RIDE VIDEO

The new bike season has officially started, and the first 2024 machine being tested at Dirt Bike Magazine’s headquarters is the KTM 450 SX-F motocross bike. This platform was introduced almost two years ago with the release of the 22.5 Factory Edition by KTM. Initially, the testing staff at DB wasn’t completely convinced by the new bike, but after some testing, opinions are starting to change.

From the archive: on this day in 1951

Ferrari is the only team to have raced in every Formula 1 season since the beginning and holds the record for the most number of championship grands prix won, with 242 victories. This winning streak started 72 years ago with their first victory at the British Grand Prix in Silverstone, where they overtook the previously dominant Alfa Romeo 158/159 that had been dominating the races in 1950 and the first four races of 1951.

The race weekend started off with a promising start, as José Froilán González became the first person to lap the old bomber airfield at over 100mph, securing pole position with a one-second lead. However, Alfa’s Felice Bonetto managed to take the lead at the start from the second row. González quickly regained the lead on the second lap, while Juan Manuel Fangio closed the gap and started chasing the two Argentines, leaving the rest of the pack behind.

González made a crucial pass on the 12th lap, as the Ferrari had better handling compared to the Alfa, which was unpredictably twitching. González had a heart-stopping moment while lapping a slower Alfa at Becketts corner but narrowly managed to squeeze between the cars and the barriers, reclaiming the lead soon after. Despite Fangio’s efforts, he couldn’t keep up with González, partly due to a loose rear damper on his car.

The podium featured the two Argentines in first and second place, with Luigi Villoresi’s Ferrari taking third after reigning champion Giuseppe Farina’s Alfa Romeo had a late ignition issue. “It was a fantastic race and a promising sign for the future of grand prix racing,” we concluded.

Austin opens “world’s most modern” production facility

Austin initially started in an old printing works in Longbridge, a suburb of Birmingham, in 1905. As the popularity of cars increased, the manufacturing plant grew more than tenfold by the end of the Great War.

In 1951, we reported on Austin’s most significant expansion yet: a new state-of-the-art production building that was claimed to be the most modern in the world. The facility was highly automated, which significantly reduced the potential for errors caused by human factors.

What happened to Brake Free from Shark Tank Season 12?

In Season 12’s Episode 8 of Shark Tank, Brake Free was introduced by two of its founders, Henry Li and Alex Arkhangelskiy. The other three co-founders, Ian Dunn, Trevor Leger, and Johan Boot, were absent from the episode. Arkhangelskiy started the pitch by highlighting the excitement of riding motorcycles while also acknowledging the inherent danger. He mentioned that he and his partners created Brake Free because they have families and are concerned about safety. The “Shark Tank” investors were initially impressed, but had reservations about Brake Free’s request for $200,000 in funding in exchange for a 10% equity stake in the company.

The “Shark Tank” investors quickly acknowledged that Brake Free was a great idea and inquired about its functionality and whether it had a patent. The Brake Free presenters explained that the device costs $169.99, uses smartphone-like sensors to track movement, and has a patent. However, Kevin O’Leary, Barbara Corcoran, and Lori Greiner declined the opportunity to invest in Brake Free, leaving the presenters disappointed. Luckily, Robert Herjavec was willing to provide the requested $200,000, but he wanted a 20% equity stake. Mark Cuban also expressed interest in the company, leading to a partnership between Herjavec and Cuban. Brake Free ultimately accepted the deal for $200,000 with a 20% equity stake.

What Happened To Boho Camper Vans From Shark Tank Season 11?

In Season 11 of “Shark Tank,” Boho Camper Vans made an appearance and partnered with Barbara Corcoran. They were offered $150,000 in cash and a $150,000 line of credit in exchange for a 10% stake in their company. Initially, the two friends were seeking $300,000 for the same equity, and they received offers from O’Leary, Oza, and Greiner before ultimately accepting Corcoran’s offer, which met their desired terms.

O’Leary proposed a $300,000 loan with a 9% interest rate in exchange for 7% equity. Oza offered $300,000 for a 25% stake in the company. Greiner presented $300,000 for 20% equity, but Sodeemann and Ellenson asked her to lower her equity to 15% without changing the investment amount. When Greiner turned down their counteroffer, the pair decided to go with Corcoran.

“Barbara was the perfect fit for us because she understood our aversion to debt and provided a solution to pay it off quickly,” Ellenson explained after reaching a deal with Corcoran.
