Shelby Super Snake Vs. Monster Pro Lite Drag Race Is American V8 Showdown

Although pickup trucks are usually not designed for racing and are typically used for work purposes or off-road adventures, there are exceptions to this rule. Some manufacturers create powerful and fast trucks, and there are even special racing series for these vehicles. In this drag race, we will see how a road-legal performance truck compares to a lightweight race truck.

The video at the top of this page, brought to us by Carwow on YouTube, showcases a drag race between two impressive machines. On the left, we have the Shelby F-150 Super Snake, which is a highly modified version of America’s best-selling vehicle, the F-150. Under the hood, this truck boasts a 5.0-liter supercharged V8 engine that produces a staggering 770 horsepower and approximately 640 pound-feet of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels via a 10-speed automatic gearbox. However, it must be noted that this truck is quite heavy, weighing in at 4,846 pounds.

Kent Howerton came into the spotlight in 1973 when he raced just a few AMA Nationals in his rookie kickoff. The  Texan finished in with a 4th at the Lake Whitney 250 National (CZ mounted) and then a 5th overall in the Open class at  Houston. In 1974, Husqvarna mounted Howerton won his first 250 AMA National  in New Orleans and finished 6th overall in the 250 Motocross Championship.

Howerton signed his first factory contract with Husqvarna in 1975 for $8,000. He finished second behind Tony DiStefano in the 250cc championship, and was 5th in the 1975 AMA 500cc Motocross Championship. 1976 was a pivotal year for the Texan. He battled throughout the 500cc series with Gary Semics, winning the open class championship. He tallied a 4th overall int he 250 class and won one round in the Trans-AMA series.

Husqvarna would not win another AMA Motocross championship for 27-years!

2024 HARD ENDURO SCHEDULE ANNOUNCED

The FIM and Hard Enduro World Championship promoters have announced a provisional 2024 HEWC calendar with eight rounds scheduled including a British round and a return to TKO.

Joel Robert and Torsten Hallman. Two world champions who forged the path of the burgeoning motocross world.

This is one of my favorite shots ever! Mark Kariya shot this, it was day 4 at the John Zinc ISDE Qualifier and was the final moto, and a muddy one at that. I had a great moto, though did land in a hole nearly sending me over the bars. I saved it, but my shoulder popped out of the socket. I rode for a half a lap howling, until it popped back in. I made the team that year, but struggled with the shoulder all the way through the Czecho ISDE.

From the archive: on this day in 1951

Ferrari is the only team to have raced in every Formula 1 season since the beginning and holds the record for the most number of championship grands prix won, with 242 victories. This winning streak started 72 years ago with their first victory at the British Grand Prix in Silverstone, where they overtook the previously dominant Alfa Romeo 158/159 that had been dominating the races in 1950 and the first four races of 1951.

The race weekend started off with a promising start, as José Froilán González became the first person to lap the old bomber airfield at over 100mph, securing pole position with a one-second lead. However, Alfa’s Felice Bonetto managed to take the lead at the start from the second row. González quickly regained the lead on the second lap, while Juan Manuel Fangio closed the gap and started chasing the two Argentines, leaving the rest of the pack behind.

González made a crucial pass on the 12th lap, as the Ferrari had better handling compared to the Alfa, which was unpredictably twitching. González had a heart-stopping moment while lapping a slower Alfa at Becketts corner but narrowly managed to squeeze between the cars and the barriers, reclaiming the lead soon after. Despite Fangio’s efforts, he couldn’t keep up with González, partly due to a loose rear damper on his car.

The podium featured the two Argentines in first and second place, with Luigi Villoresi’s Ferrari taking third after reigning champion Giuseppe Farina’s Alfa Romeo had a late ignition issue. “It was a fantastic race and a promising sign for the future of grand prix racing,” we concluded.

Austin opens “world’s most modern” production facility

Austin initially started in an old printing works in Longbridge, a suburb of Birmingham, in 1905. As the popularity of cars increased, the manufacturing plant grew more than tenfold by the end of the Great War.

In 1951, we reported on Austin’s most significant expansion yet: a new state-of-the-art production building that was claimed to be the most modern in the world. The facility was highly automated, which significantly reduced the potential for errors caused by human factors.
