IMSA at Road America: BMW M Team RLL aiming for third consecutive GTP podium with the new BMW M Hybrid V8.

BMW M Team RLL is set to resume the 2023 season in the IMSA WeatherTech Sports Car Championship at Road America this weekend. After winning at Watkins Glen and securing third place at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, the team is looking to achieve a third consecutive podium finish with the BMW M Hybrid V8 in the GTP class. So far this season, the team has claimed one victory and three more podium finishes with the #25 BMW M Hybrid V8.

During the four-week break following the race at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, both BMW M Hybrid V8 racing cars have been extensively tested for the upcoming event at Road America. All four season-long drivers, Connor De Phillippi, Nick Yelloly, Augusto Farfus, and Philipp Eng, participated in a two-day test at Road America, where the cars covered over 1,491 miles on the resurfaced track. In addition, the team conducted a two-day test at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, with the #25 and #24 BMWs ending the second day on top of the timing sheets.

Road America holds significance for the BMW M Team RLL as it was the location of their first victory in 2009. Since then, the team has achieved three wins, three second places, and two third places at the Wisconsin circuit with different BMW GT racing cars.

In the GT Daytona class, three BMW M4 GT3s will compete. Bryan Sellers and Madison Snow currently lead the GTD class points with the #1 Paul Miller Racing BMW M4 GT3. Turner Motorsport also brings two BMW M4 GT3s to the race.

The race at Road America will take place on Sunday, August 6th at 10:10 local time.

Quotes ahead of the Road America race:

Connor De Phillippi (#25 BMW M Hybrid V8): “Road America is one of the greatest circuits in the US. With a fresh layer of pavement, it has added even more fun to our BMW M Hybrid V8. Our two-day tests went well, and we feel well prepared to fight for the top spot on Sunday.”

Nick Yelloly (#25 BMW M Hybrid V8): “I’m excited to race at Road America. We had a positive test there a couple of weeks ago, which helped me prepare for my first time racing at the track. I’m ready to conquer this iconic US circuit.”

Philipp Eng (#24 BMW M Hybrid V8): “We had a very productive test at Road America. The track is fantastic, and I can’t wait to return for race week and compete for a victory!”

Augusto Farfus (#24 BMW M Hybrid V8): “We have high expectations for our performance at Road America, especially since we recently tested there. The track is a unique mix of Spa and the Nordschleife, and I’m really looking forward to it.”

Chevrolet Silverado EV vs GMC Sierra EV: Which One Should You Buy?

First introduced in 2022, Chevrolet is getting ready to introduce its all-electric version of the Silverado, the Silverado EV into the market. Alternatively, GMC is all set to release its all-electric version of the GMC Sierra, the Sierra EV. Both of these electric trucks come with stellar features and performance specs. To begin with, both of these electric trucks offer an impressive driving range. First off, the GMC Sierra EV can go up to 400 miles on a full charge, while the Chevrolet Silverado EV can go nearly 450 miles on a single charge. Additionally, they also come with batteries that are strong enough to power your house for a total of 21 days, and a range of other spectacular features. But if you want to choose the best possible all-electric truck for you, it’s the small details that matter, while both of these electric trucks are unique in their own way, you need to choose the one that suits your needs the best. Here are a few points which you can go through to help make your decision.

1. The GMC Sierra EV And The Chevrolet Silverado EV Are Equally Powerful

If performance is what you’re after, then the GMC Sierra is the better choice out of the two. The Chevy EV Silverado comes fitted with two electric motors that are capable of generating a combined 516 horses, this is for the base trim. With the costlier RST trim, the number goes up to 664 horses. But if you were to use the Open-Wide Watts mode, then you can unlock a staggering 754 ponies alongside 785 pound-feet of torque.

Sierra EV and Silverado EV Specs

Quite similarly, the GMC Sierra EV also comes studded with two electric motors and is capable of generating a whopping 754 ponies alongside 785 pound-feet of torque when Max Power mode is in play. Furthermore, this all-electric truck is capable of accelerating from a standstill to 60 mph within just 4.5 seconds.

2. The Chevrolet Silverado EV Is Cheaper Than The Sierra EV

Although the Chevrolet Silverado EV is as powerful as the GMC Sierra EV Denali Edition 1, it is more affordable than GMC’s Sierra EV. Both seem to be quite similar in a lot of ways, the Chevy Silverado EV price starts at around $75,000 for the 3WT trim and can go up to nearly $107,000 for the RST. Chevy had earlier announced that there will be a cheap base WT trim starting at $39,900, but has now pulled the plug on it. A $50,000 trim is in the reckoning, but at the time of writing this, there are just three trims available.

Pricing

The GMC Sierra EV’s only available trim, on the other hand, will cost you an approximated $108,695 which is slightly more expensive than the Silverado EV’s most expensive RST trim. But even though the Silverado EV costs less, it does not fall short of power nor does it have any dearth of features.

3. The GMC Sierra EV Features “CrabWalk”

Although both of these all-electric trucks come with four-wheel steering technology and multiple driving modes, the GMC Sierra EV is better suited for off-roading. For starters, the all-electric pickup truck comes with “CrabWalk”, a unique feature that allows the electric truck to move diagonally. To be accurate, this feature lets the rear wheels turn in the exact direction and angle as the front wheels, this way the all-electric truck can quite literally move diagonally, which makes it easy for the electric truck to get out of tricky spots. But the “CrabWalk” feature can only be used at low speeds. This feature can also be of great help in maneuvering the EV through tough terrains and trails.

4. The Silverado EV Is Better Suited For Off-Roading

In comparison to GMC’s Sierra EV Denali Edition 1, the Chevrolet EV Silverado is better suited for off-roading. Silverado EV’s Trail Boss trim is meant for off-roading purposes. This electric truck will cost you roughly about $85,000 (destination included). There isn’t a lot of information that has been released about this, but you should expect this trim to have slightly smaller wheels and offer a little less than 400 miles of driving range. Moreover, you can also expect it to have lifted suspensions, all-terrain tires, locking differentials as well as air springs. Another reason for Silverado taking the lead here is because the GMC Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 was meant to be driven on city roads, and GMC is also releasing the 2024 GMC Hummer EV this spring which comes with better off-roading capabilities.

5. The Sierra EV Is Much More Feature-Rich

Although there are limited details available, it does seem like the GMC Sierra EV comes with a lot more features as compared to the Silverado EV. The standard Chevy Silverado EV comes with 11.0-inch touchscreen infotainment display system and if you were to opt for the higher models you will get a 17.0-inch display system alongside an 11.0-inch digital gauge display, standard for all trims. On the other hand, the GMC Sierra comes fitted with a standard 16.8-inch infotainment display system as well as an 11.0-inch digital display gauge and a 14.0-inch diagonal multicolor Head-Up display. The panoramic roof on the Sierra EV comes with tinted glass and infrared/UV coatings to keep the interiors as comfortable as possible. Furthermore, the SuperCruise Driver Assistance technology offers a plethora of safety features such as hands-free driving, automatic lane change, and much more. If you’re looking for an electric truck with tech-laden interiors, then the Sierra EV does seem like the right choice.

6. The Silverado EV Is Available In More Trim Levels

The GMC Sierra EV as of now is set to be released in just one trim, although there are a couple of trims set to be released in the coming years, the GMC Sierra EV Elevation and the GMC Sierra EV AT4. Currently, the only available trim is the Denali Edition 1, whereas, Chevrolet offers the Silverado EV in three trims, although you can expect up to six in the near future. The 3WT, 4WT, and RST are the ones confirmed for now. Expect Trail Boss and High Country to join the fray, too.

7. The GMC Sierra EV Comes With A Rather Luxurious Interior

If you’re paying over $100,000, then you ought to expect to get luxurious interiors. The interior of the Denali Edition 1 features leather and open-pore wood. Apart from all the premium materials used to make the interior, GMC uses a top-tier seating material “CoreTec”, this material is custom-engineered and can provide better stain resistance as well as durability. Furthermore, GMC also gave the Sierra EV a Galvano chrome finish to the all-black interior. Whereas the Silverado EV dawns interiors that make use of vinyl, PVC, and a slew of other sustainable and recycled materials.

8. The Chevrolet Silverado EV Boasts A Better Towing Capacity

When it comes to towing capacity, the Chevrolet Silverado EV takes the cake here as it clearly comes with better towing capacity as compared to the GMC Sierra EV. To begin with, the GMC Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 offers a total towing capacity of 9,500 pounds, falling a little short as compared to the Silverado EV. To Chevrolet’s credit, the Chevrolet EV Silverado can tow up to 10,000 pounds which is almost as much as the Ford F-150 Lightning. Furthermore, it can also haul up to 1,300 pounds of payload. In addition to that, Chevrolet plans on introducing models that can tow up to 20,000 pounds. The base WT trims, on the other hand, come with a maximum towing capacity of 8000 pounds.

9. The Sierra EV Offers More Cargo Space

The GMC Sierra EV comes fitted with a 5-foot-11-inch bed along with the MultiPro Midgate system that can be opened to give way to additional cargo space of 9-feet-11-inches. In addition to that, the MultiPro Tailgate can be further used as an extension which allows the all-electric truck to offer a combined generous 10-feet-10-inches of cargo space. The Chevy Silverado EV also offers a total of 10-feet-10-inches of cargo space with an additional “frunk” which offers about 10.7-cubic-feet of space, while the Sierra offers a total of 11.0-cubic-feet of space.

10. The Chevrolet Silverado EV Will Arrive Before The Sierra EV

The Chevrolet Silverado EV was first introduced to the public in 2022 and is all set to go on sale by the fall of 2023, on the other hand, the GMC Sierra EV will go on sale early next year, 2024. So, if you’re looking to buy an electric truck as soon as possible, then the Chevrolet Silverado EV is a very fine choice. You can expect the base trim to be released first, after which you can expect the costlier trims to go on sale. The Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 will be released early next year, and you can expect the Sierra AT4 and Elevation to go on sale by 2025.

Kymco’s IONEX Announcement on June 19, 2023

Kymco is set to unveil their latest addition to the IONEX range of bikes on June 19, 2023. This announcement is expected to showcase a new model or an innovative feature for the IONEX platform. The Taiwanese brand has referred to this reveal as their “trump card,” suggesting a significant development in the market.

The IONEX platform currently utilizes a swappable battery system that allows users to easily charge their bikes at home or swap batteries on the go at any IONEX station. This concept is similar to the Gogoro platform, with hubs scattered throughout major cities to alleviate range anxiety. Kymco’s videos and marketing materials emphasize the convenience and range capabilities of their IONEX program.

Head-Turning Cool, Never Wait For Charging, and Never Worry About Range are the key selling points of Kymco’s IONEX program. The system enables riders to access a network of outlets and stations, as well as rent additional batteries for extended all-electric travel.

What makes the IONEX platform unique is that the batteries charge the core module in the bike, which powers the rear wheel. If there are multiple battery modules installed, the system can intelligently switch between them. Battery stations ensure that users can pick up fresh cells if they run low on power.

Introduced in 2018, the IONEX range has been continuously expanding. Kymco’s upcoming announcement has the potential to shake up the market, particularly in Taiwan where the brand originates, or even on a global scale.

The announcement will take place on June 19, 2023, at 11:00 AM Eastern Standard Time (EST) on Kymco TW’s website and social media platforms. Whether it’s a new model or an innovative addition to the IONEX platform, this announcement is expected to be impactful and surprising.

Volvo Cars accelerates commercial transformation with the UK on course to become the brand’s first direct sales market

We’re getting ready for a fundamental change in how we do business and 2023 will be an important year for us. This year, our commercial transformation gathers pace as we evolve what we sell, how we sell and where we sell.

This transformation is crucial to our long-term ambitions and growth as a company. We will be fully electric by 2030, introduce new ways to access a Volvo car, roll out a seamless online and physical retail experience, and create a lot more direct relationships with our ever-growing consumer base around the world.

Europe, our largest sales region and furthest along in the move towards full electrification, is spearheading this transformation – already in 2022, online and direct sales represented 11 per cent of the total sales in our top five European markets.

In the United Kingdom the change is already well under way, with many direct sales channels already operational. Since 2019, it has been possible to order a Volvo car online in the UK. The subsequent launch of the Care by Volvo subscription service in September 2020 offered a new, flexible alternative to traditional car ownership. To date, more than 12,000 new cars have been sold by this direct channel.

In early 2022 we were the first manufacturer in the UK to launch an online direct sales platform for approved-used cars. We then provided a new solution for Fleet and Business consumers with a tool for SMEs to order and manage their company cars directly with us online.

In June this year we’ll be taking the next important step as the UK becomes our first 100 per cent direct market when we close the UK wholesale channel. It is important to note that we are not closing the Volvo Cars retailers. They continue to be an important part of a seamless online and physical consumer experience. Sweden will be the next market to switch to this model, while other markets in Europe will follow as they become ready.

Getting a new Volvo: you’re in the driver’s seat

In the UK, our new approach to getting a Volvo car is designed around flexibility for the consumer. You decide how you access a new Volvo model: through subscription, leasing, Personal Contract Purchase (PCP), Volvo Loan or outright purchase.

Regardless of whether you visit one of our retailer partners, walk into our urban studio, head to our website or use the Volvo Cars app, everyone should get the same outstanding and meaningful experience.

“Evolving consumer needs are the driving force behind this change. We want to provide the best possible experience for our consumers, whatever their buying preferences. The transformation is being undertaken in close collaboration with our retailer partners and we are confident it will deliver an industry-leading buying process,” says Kristian Elvefors, Volvo Car UK Managing Director. “It’s exciting to see the progress we’ve already made as we transition our business and continue the roll out of this new sales model. So far this year, 17% of our sales have been online and direct, and they continue to grow as we move towards the completion of this transformation.”

This simple and smooth buying process will be underpinned by our online store, volvocars.com. Transparent and national online pricing without haggling or hidden fees, as well as an easy-to-understand offer, makes ordering a new Volvo car a breeze.

Consumers can complete an order in a few simple steps and follow their car through every phase of the delivery process via the Volvo Cars app. Here, they also find all car-related services and functionalities in a user-friendly, seamless interface.

Apart from simplifying our offer and introducing more transparent pricing, we’re also investing in a centralised digital inventory system that will allow us to see all cars that are available across the country at any given time. That allows us to locate and deliver cars faster.

While online consumer relationships will play an increasingly important role, our physical retailers will always be a key component of our success. Not only will they deliver and service cars, they will remain responsible for a lot of everyday contact with consumers, such as providing test drives and assisting them through the new sales process.

“We are really looking forward to continuing our strong relationship with Volvo Car UK as we undergo this huge transformation,” says Chris Carr, Managing Director and owner of Volvo Cars Shrewsbury, who was among the first to sign the new partner agreement. “Volvo has shown willingness to listen to retailers throughout this journey and demonstrated openness. This collaboration leaves us, as retailers, in a really positive place to drive our businesses forward, while securing a fundamental role in the future of Volvo’s first direct sales market.”

Together with our retailer partners, we’ll also keep investing in advanced data analytics capabilities. By analysing how customers use our platforms, interact with our brand and use our products, we can understand them even better: what they want and how we can make their lives easier.
