McLaren 750S Spectrum By MSO Debuts With Vibrant Color Gradient Paint

The McLaren 750S Spectrum Theme by MSO showcases the innovative painting techniques of the brand’s personalization division. One of its latest creations features blue wave designs along the sides of the supercar. Pricing for this unique color option has not been announced.

The Spectrum Theme introduces a captivating gradient effect by using seven different shades of paint and applying stripes to the car’s body. In addition to the blue tones, McLaren plans to offer orange and gray versions of this eye-catching design. The company has developed new paints that combine light and dark tones to achieve the desired color shift.

Novitec Gives McLaren 765LT Supercar a Carbon-Fiber Upgrade

McLaren introduced the 765LT as a special edition of the 720S. Only 765 examples of this long-tail variant were planned for production, making it a rare find. However, the aftermarket scene has not overlooked this supercar, offering various upgrades.

This particular vehicle features a wrap from a company called Fostla.de Concepts located in Hannover, Germany. The wrap complements the car’s existing carbon-fiber elements, such as the mirror caps. Additionally, splashes of orange accentuate the front splitter, side blades, front trunk, roof, wing, and rear diffuser.

McLaren 750S Makes its American Debut by Reaching 204 MPH on Public Road

Former McLaren and Ferrari F1 driver Stefan Johansson recently had the opportunity to drive a McLaren 750S on a beautiful road in Idaho. However, it wasn’t just a leisurely drive through the mountains. Johansson managed to reach speeds over 200 mph on a two-lane highway.

This impressive feat was McLaren’s way of announcing the official arrival of the 750S in North America. It’s worth noting that the road used for this speed demonstration was closed for the occasion. McLaren chose to showcase the car during the 2023 Sun Valley Tour de Force event, where a 3.2-mile stretch of asphalt in the Sawtooth National Recreation Area in Idaho is designated for unrestricted speed runs. In the past, a Bugatti Chiron managed to reach a top speed of 253 mph on the same road. Although Johansson didn’t quite match that level of insanity, he did manage to briefly bring the McLaren 750S to a speed of 204 mph – quite an achievement for the new supercar.

duPont REGISTRY No. 459 – August 2023

McLaren may not be dominating Formula 1 right now, but its automotive division consistently earns a place on the podium for its road cars. And while the brand has produced some truly insane cars in its Ultimate Series, it’s the 720S from the “lesser” Super Series that has grabbed more headlines.

Perhaps it’s because the 720S is more affordable and available compared to McLaren’s other models like the Senna or Speedtail. Or maybe it’s because the 720S has gained popularity through videos on YouTube, showcasing it embarrassing every car in quarter-mile drag races.

Introducing the cover car of this issue: the new 750S. McLaren recently unveiled this successor to the 720S, and it offers even more improvements. With an additional 30 horsepower, a weight reduction of 66 pounds, a shorter final drive ratio in its upgraded 7-speed sequential gearbox, a wider track, larger air intakes, and a quicker steering ratio, the new 750S surpasses its predecessor as a remarkable supercar.

Reportedly, the 750S will be the last McLaren car solely powered by an internal combustion engine. While electric propulsion is the future, McLaren deserves credit for not abandoning traditional engines without a fight. The upgrades in the 750S ensure that McLaren will still outpace a Tesla in drag races.

This month’s issue of duPont REGISTRY also features two other supercars you don’t want to miss. The first is a review of the incredibly innovative yet nostalgic Ferrari 296 GTB on page 30. This Ferrari is the first to feature a V6 engine in nearly 50 years. Despite having fewer cylinders compared to its V8-powered stablemates, the 296 GTB surprises with 830 horsepower thanks to some electrification enhancements.

The second supercar feature is about our first experience with the unique McLaren Elva. You can read about it on page 48. As mentioned earlier, McLaren’s Ultimate Series has produced extraordinary cars like the F1 and P1, and the Elva is the latest and most intriguing addition to this group. This open-top supercar does not have a windshield, although there is an option to add a fixed windscreen (which we do not recommend). The Elva is rare, fast, and expensive, making it the epitome of our car preferences.

If size were the main indicator of automotive greatness, the LOKI Coach would be on top. Turn to page 42 to learn about the most impressive and luxurious motorcoach built on the renowned Prevost chassis. If you want to travel in true luxury, the LOKI Coach offers a sleek exterior, modern interior, and significant advancements in power management, renewable energy, and automation. Our advice? Make space for this exceptional vehicle by clearing your guest house and creating a concrete pad for parking it.

There’s much more to discover in this month’s issue (pro-tip: check out our feature on adventure watches on page 70). It’s the kind of issue that you won’t want to put down, as your next car could be waiting for you within its pages. Now go find it.

McLaren Artura Art Car Receives Unique Abstract Wrap by Contemporary Artist

The McLaren Artura, the automaker’s first hybrid supercar in series production, made its debut in February 2021. Adding to its allure, the vehicle has been transformed into an art car, featuring a one-of-a-kind custom wrap designed by Berlin-based artist Cevin Parker.

Parker, who is self-taught in contemporary abstract art, has created a vibrant and colorful wrap for the supercar. The design includes streaks and splashes of pink, yellow, and orange, enhancing the Artura’s distinctive fender intakes. Additionally, a captivating fade effect is applied, starting with a pastel purple at the front and gradually transitioning to a sunny yellow at the rear.

McLaren Solus GT Wins 2023 Goodwood Shootout With Impressive Time

The McLaren Solus GT has exceeded expectations by dominating its class at the Festival Of Speed hill climb. With a time of 45.34 seconds, it won the 2023 shootout and achieved the third-fastest time ever recorded for a production car on the course. Only the McMurtry Speirling (39.08) and Nio EP9 (44.32) have recorded faster times.

The McLaren Solus GT, powered by a V10 engine, took multiple practice runs before the timed run and impressed enthusiasts with its performance. Throughout the runs, it competed against the Subaru GL Family Huckster driven by Travis Pastrana, the Rimac Nevera, and several hand-picked race cars. The Solus GT was a full second faster than the next-best Subaru.

These are the top five results:

Car Driver Time
McLaren Solus GT Marvin Kirchhofer 45.34 Seconds
Subaru GL Family Huckster Travis Pastrana 46.37 Seconds
McLaren-Cosworth M26 Michael Lyons 46.89 Seconds
Porsche 911 GT3 Cup Adam Smalley 47.40 Seconds
Nissan Skyline GT-R R32 Jake Hill 48.18 Seconds

The McLaren Solus GT is equipped with a 5.2-liter V10 engine that delivers an impressive 829 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 2.5 seconds and has an estimated top speed of 200 mph.

Weighing only 2,205 pounds, the Solus GT generates up to 2,646 pounds of downforce. Its aerodynamic design was inspired by the 2017 Vision Gran Turismo concept for the Gran Turismo racing game.

Only 25 customers will have the opportunity to own a McLaren Solus GT, which is specifically designed for track use. Each owner will receive a driver-development coaching program, an FIA-homologated racing suit, a special helmet, and a bespoke HANS device.

The McLaren Solus GT is priced at £2.5 million ($4 million in US dollars).

New McLaren 750S: More Power and Enhanced Chassis

The McLaren 750S is the updated version of the popular 720S, offering improved performance and a redesigned chassis. Available in both hard-top and Spider models, this supercar aims to set a new benchmark in its segment, providing better usability and increased enjoyment for drivers.

As the name suggests, the 750S boasts a power increase over its predecessor, delivering 750PS (740bhp). With a weight reduction of 30kg, bringing it down to 1277kg dry, the car achieves a segment-leading power-to-weight ratio of 579bhp per tonne. The closest competitor, the Ferrari 296 GTB plug-in hybrid, claims a ratio of 552bhp per tonne.

Additionally, the McLaren 750S is the lightest road car produced by McLaren, weighing just 79kg more than the track-focused Senna hypercar without fluids.

The weight-saving measures include carbon fibre-shelled alloys that save 13.8kg, 17.5kg lighter carbon-shelled race seats, and a trimmed instrument cluster that contributes a 1.6kg reduction.

The car’s enhanced performance, combined with a shorter final drive ratio, allows for 10% faster acceleration compared to the 720S. It can go from 0-62mph in 2.8 seconds and reach 186mph in only 4.4 seconds. However, the top speed is slightly lower at 206mph.

The twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 engine has undergone subtle yet effective improvements. It features a new triple-layer head gasket, new twin fuel pumps, higher-pressure turbos, and lighter pistons. Additionally, a standard sports exhaust system, exiting through the center of the rear deck like the P1 hypercar, reduces weight by 2.2kg and produces a new and distinct sound.

To enhance the driver’s connection and engagement, the engine mounts have been modified, providing a heightened sense of connection. Furthermore, the car offers an optional glass decklid that allows a view of the engine.

McLaren introduces the track-only Solus GT, powered by an 830bhp V10 engine

McLaren has unveiled an exclusive track car called the Solus GT, which is based on a virtual video game concept. This single-seat vehicle is equipped with a naturally aspirated V10 engine that produces over 830bhp. The car made its public debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed and features a visually striking carbon fibre design, enclosed wheels, and a large rear wing. With a unique monocoque chassis, the Solus GT weighs less than 1000kg but generates 1200kg of downforce. Originally created for the Gran Turismo Sport video game, the car has now been revealed in its production form at the Monterey Car Week in California.

What sets the Solus GT apart is its 5.2-litre V10 engine, making it the first McLaren customer car to have such an engine configuration. This powerplant can rev up to 10,000rpm and delivers more than 830bhp and 479lb ft of torque. Power is transmitted through a bespoke seven-speed sequential gearbox, allowing the car to accelerate from 0 to 62mph in just 2.5 seconds. McLaren claims that the top speed surpasses 200mph.

The driver sits in a centrally mounted, enclosed cabin, which can be accessed through a sliding canopy like that of a jet plane. Inside, a fixed seat tailored to the owner’s specifications is installed. The car also features a carbon fibre steering wheel inspired by Formula 1 and a digital rear-view display. Each of the 25 units of the Solus GT has already been sold for more than £3 million. In addition to the car, owners will receive a travel case specifically designed for transporting the vehicle to various events around the world, including events organized by McLaren for Solus owners.

“The McLaren Solus GT is the embodiment of a revolutionary McLaren concept vehicle originally designed for virtual racing,” said Michael Leiters, the new CEO of McLaren Automotive.

McLaren Artura Deliveries Delayed to Improve Quality

The McLaren Artura has faced some initial problems, but the Chief Executive Officer, Michael Leiters, has pledged to address them. In an interview last December, Leiters acknowledged that the car was not fully developed, leading to a halt in deliveries and a temporary stop in production to address quality issues.

Unfortunately, the Artura’s past issues continue to impact its delivery schedule. Automotive News obtained a memo sent by McLaren to dealers in the United States, informing them of delayed deliveries to customers. On average, buyers can expect a four-month delay, with some cars originally scheduled for May now pushed back to September. McLaren spokesperson Roger Ormisher confirmed this information.
